Non-collapsed eGH convergence and dimension

Let $(X_i,p_i)$ be a non-collapsing sequence of pointed $n$-dimensional Riemannian manifolds with a uniform lower Ricci curvature bound, and $ G_i \leq \operatorname{Iso} (X_i)$ a sequence of closed subgroups of isometries. We show that if the triples $(X_i, G_i, p_i)$ converge in the equivariant Gromov--Hausdorff sense to a triple $(X,G,p)$, then $\operatorname{dim} (G) \geq \limsup _{i \to \infty} \operatorname{dim} (G_i)$, generalizing a result of Mazur--Rong--Wang to the non-compact setting. The argument also applies in the non-smooth setting of $\operatorname{RCD}$ spaces. As an application, we investigate $\operatorname{RCD}$ spaces with large isometry groups, extending results of Galaz-García--Kell--Mondino--Sosa and Galaz-García--Guijarro.

Classification of generalized Seifert fiber spaces

We provide a symbolic classification of generalized Seifert fiber spaces, which were introduced by Mitsuishi and Yamaguchi in the classification of collapsing Alexandrov $3$-spaces. Additionally, we show that the canonical double branched cover of a non-manifold generalized Seifert fiber space is a Seifert manifold and compute its symbolic invariants in terms of those of the original space.

Cohomogeneity one RCD-spaces

We study $\mathsf{RCD}$-spaces $(X,d,\mathfrak{m})$ with group actions by isometries preserving the reference measure $\mathfrak{m}$ and whose orbit space has dimension one, i.e. cohomogeneity one actions. To this end we prove a Slice Theorem asserting that when $X$ is non-collapsed the slices are homeomorphic to metric cones over homogeneous spaces with $\mathrm{Ric} \geq 0$. As a consequence we obtain complete topological structural results (also in the collapsed case) and a regular orbit representation theorem. Conversely, we show how to construct new $\mathsf{RCD}$-spaces from a cohomogeneity one group diagram, giving a complete description of $\mathsf{RCD}$-spaces of cohomogeneity one. As an application of these results we obtain the classification of cohomogeneity one, non-collapsed $\mathsf{RCD}$-spaces of essential dimension at most $4$.

Spaces with Riemannian curvature bounds are universally infinitesimally Hilbertian

We show that a metric space $X$ that, at every point, has a Gromov-Hausdorff tangent with the splitting property (i.e. every geodesic line splits off a factor $\mathbb{R}$), is universally infinitesimally Hilbertian (i.e. $W^{1,2}(X,μ)$ is a Hilbert space for every measure $μ$). This connects the infinitesimal geometry of $X$ to its analytic properties and is, to our knowledge, the first general criterion guaranteeing universal infinitesimal Hilbertianity. Using it we establish universal infinitesimal Hilbertianity of finite dimensional RCD-spaces. We moreover show that (possibly infinite dimensional) Alexandrov spaces are universally infinitesimally Hilbertian and construct an isometric embedding of tangent modules.

Volume entropy and rigidity for RCD-spaces

We develop the barycenter technique of Besson--Courtois--Gallot so that it can be applied on RCD metric measure spaces. Given a continuous map $f$ from a non-collapsed RCD$(-(N-1),N)$ space $X$ without boundary to a locally symmetric $N$-manifold we show a version of BCG's entropy-volume inequality. The lower bound involves homological and homotopical indices which we introduce. We prove that when equality holds and these indices coincide $X$ is a locally symmetric manifold, and $f$ is homotopic to a Riemannian covering whose degree equals the indices. Moreover, we show a measured Gromov--Hausdorff stability of $X$ and $Y$ involving the homotopical invariant. As a byproduct, we extend a Lipschitz volume rigidity result of Li--Wang to RCD$(K,N)$ spaces without boundary. Finally, we include an application of these methods to the study of Einstein metrics on $4$-orbifolds.

Torus actions on Alexandrov 4-spaces

We obtain an equivariant classification for orientable, closed, four-dimensional Alexandrov spaces admitting an isometric torus action. This generalizes the equivariant classification of Orlik and Raymond of closed four-dimensional manifolds with torus actions. Moreover, we show that such Alexandrov spaces are equivariantly homeomorphic to $4$-dimensional Riemannian orbifolds with isometric $T^2$-actions. We also obtain a partial homeomorphism classification.

Maximal volume entropy rigidity for $\mathsf{RCD}^*(-(N-1),N)$ spaces

For $n$-dimensional Riemannian manifolds $M$ with Ricci curvature bounded below by $-(n-1)$, the volume entropy is bounded above by $n-1$. If $M$ is compact, it is known that the equality holds if and only if $M$ is hyperbolic. We extend this result to $\mathsf{RCD}^{\ast}(-(N-1),N)$ spaces. While the upper bound is straightforward, the rigidity case is quite involved due to the lack of a smooth structure in $\mathsf{RCD}^{\ast}$ spaces. As an application we obtain an almost rigidity result which partially recovers a result by Cheng-Rong-Xu for Riemannian manifolds.

Three-dimensional Alexandrov spaces with local isometric circle actions

We obtain a topological and equivariant classification of closed, connected three-dimensional Alexandrov spaces admitting a local isometric circle action. We show, in particular, that such spaces are homeomorphic to connected sums of some closed 3-manifold with a local circle action and finitely many copies of the suspension of the real projective plane.

The behavior of harmonic functions at singular points of $\mathsf{RCD}$ spaces

In this note we investigate the behavior of harmonic functions at singular points of $\mathsf{RCD}(K,N)$ spaces. In particular we show that their gradient vanishes at all points where the tangent cone is isometric to a cone over a metric measure space with non-maximal diameter. The same analysis is performed for functions with a Laplacian in $L^{N+\varepsilon}$. As a consequence we show that on smooth manifolds there is no a priori estimate on the modulus of continuity of the gradient of harmonic functions which depends only on lower bounds of the sectional curvature. In the same way we show that there is no a priori Calderón-Zygmund theory for the Laplacian with bounds depending only on lower bounds of the sectional curvature.

On topological rigidity of Alexandrov $3$-spaces

In this note we prove the Borel Conjecture for closed, irreducible and sufficiently collapsed three-dimensional Alexandrov spaces. We also pose several questions related to characterization of fundamental groups of three-dimensional Alexandrov spaces, finite groups acting on them and rigidity results.

Sufficiently collapsed irreducible Alexandrov 3-spaces are geometric

We prove that sufficiently collapsed, closed and irreducible three-dimensional Alexandrov spaces are modeled on one of the eight three-dimensional Thurston geometries. This extends a result of Shioya and Yamaguchi, originally formulated for Riemannian manifolds, to the Alexandrov setting.

Closed three-dimensional Alexandrov spaces with isometric circle actions

We obtain a topological and weakly equivariant classification of closed three-dimensional Alexandrov spaces with an effective isometric circle action. As an application of the classification we prove a version of the Borel conjecture for closed three-dimensional Alexandrov spaces with circle symmetry.
