Gehring's Lemma for kinetic Fokker-Planck equations

In this article, we establish a "Gehring lemma" for a real function satisfying a reverse H\"older inequality on all "kinetic cylinders" contained in a large one: it asserts that the integrability degree of the function improves under such an assumption. The kinetic cylinders are derived from the non-commutative group of invariances of the Kolmogorov equation. Our contributions here are (1) the extension of Gehring's Lemma to this kinetic (hypoelliptic) scaling used to generate the cylinders, (2) the localisation of the lemma in this hypoelliptic context (using ideas from the elliptic theory), (3) the streamlining of a short and quantitative proof. We then use this lemma to establish that the velocity gradient of weak solutions to linear kinetic equations of Fokker-Planck type with rough coefficients have Lebesgue integrability strictly greater than two, while the natural energy estimate merely ensures that it is square integrable. Our argument here is new but relies on Poincar\'e-type inequalities established in previous works.

Regularity and trend to equilibrium for a non-local advection-diffusion model of active particles

We establish regularity and, under suitable assumptions, convergence to stationary states for weak solutions of a parabolic equation with a non-linear non-local drift term; this equation was derived from a model of active Brownian particles with repulsive interactions in a previous work, which incorporates advection-diffusion processes both in particle position and orientation. We apply De Giorgi's method and differentiate the equation with respect to the time variable iteratively to show that weak solutions become smooth away from the initial time. This strategy requires that we obtain improved integrability estimates in order to cater for the presence of the non-local drift. The instantaneous smoothing effect observed for weak solutions is shown to also hold for very weak solutions arising from distributional initial data; the proof of this result relies on a uniqueness theorem in the style of M.~Pierre for low-regularity solutions. The convergence to stationary states is proved under a smallness assumption on the drift term.

Poincar\'e inequality and quantitative De Giorgi method for hypoelliptic operators

We propose a systematic approach based on trajectories to prove a Poincar\'e inequality for weak non-negative sub-solutions to hypoelliptic equations with an arbitrary number of H\"ormander commutators, both in the local and in the non-local case. As a consequence, we deduce the weak Harnack inequality and H\"older regularity along the line of the De Giorgi method.

Quantitative De Giorgi methods in kinetic theory

We consider hypoelliptic equations of kinetic Fokker-Planck type, also known as Kolmogorov or ultraparabolic equations, with rough coefficients in the drift-diffusion operator. We give novel short quantitative proofs of the De Giorgi intermediate-value Lemma as well as weak Harnack and Harnack inequalities. This implies H{ö}lder continuity with quantitative estimates. The paper is self-contained.

Global smooth solutions for triangular reaction-cross diffusion systems

For a class of reaction cross-diffusion systems of two equations with a cross-diffusion term in the first equation and with self-diffusion terms, we prove that the unique local smooth solution given by Amann theorem is actually global. This class of systems arises in Population dynamics, and extends the triangular Shigesada-Kawasaki-Teramoto system when general power-laws growth are considered in the reaction and diffusion rates.

Log-transform and the weak Harnack inequality for kinetic Fokker-Planck equations

This article deals with kinetic Fokker-Planck equations with essentially bounded coefficients. A weak Harnack inequality for non-negative super-solutions is derived by considering their Log-transform and following S. N. Kruzhkov (1963). Such a result rests on a new weak Poincar{é} inequality sharing similarities with the one introduced by W. Wang and L. Zhang in a series of works about ultraparabolic equations (2009, 2011, 2017). This functional inequality is combined with a classical covering argument recently adapted by L. Silvestre and the second author (2020) to kinetic equations.

Quantitative regularity for parabolic De Giorgi classes

We deal with the De Giorgi H{\"o}lder regularity theory for parabolic equations with rough coefficients and parabolic De Giorgi classes which extend the notion of solution. We give a quantitative proof of the interior H{\"o}lder regularity estimate for both using De Giorgi method. Recently, the De Giorgi method initially introduced for elliptic equation has been extended to parabolic equation in a non quantitative way. Here we extend the method to the parabolic De Giorgi classes in a quantitative way. To this aim, we get a quantitative version of the non quantitative step of the method, the parabolic intermediate value lemma, one of the two main tools of the De Giorgi method sometimes called ``second lemma of De Giorgi''.

Error estimates for finite difference schemes associated with Hamilton-Jacobi equations on a junction

This paper is concerned with monotone (time-explicit) finite difference schemes associated with first order Hamilton-Jacobi equations posed on a junction. They extend the schemes recently introduced by Costeseque, Lebacque and Monneau (2013) to general junction conditions. On the one hand, we prove the convergence of the numerical solution towards the viscosity solution of the Hamilton-Jacobi equation as the mesh size tends to zero for general junction conditions. On the other hand, we derive optimal error estimates of order $($Δ$x)^{\frac{1}{2}}$ in $L\_{loc}^{\infty}$ for junction conditions of optimal-control type at least if the flux is "strictly limited".

Classification of nonlinear boundary conditions for 1D nonconvex Hamilton-Jacobi equations

We study Hamilton-Jacobi equations in [0, +$\infty$) of evolution type with nonlinear boundary conditions of Neumann type in the case where the Hamiltonian is non necessarily convex with respect to the gradient variable. In this paper, we give two main results. First, we prove a classification of boundary condition result for a nonconvex, coercive Hamiltonian, in the spirit of the flux-limited formulation for quasi-convex Hamilton-Jacobi equations on networks recently introduced by Imbert and Monneau. Second, we give a comparison principle for a nonconvex and noncoercive Hamiltonian where the boundary condition can have flat parts.

Flux-limited solutions and state constraints for quasi-convex Hamilton-Jacobi equations

Imbert and Monneau proved that Soner's formulation of state constraint problems on a bounded interval is equivalent to the so-called flux-limited formulation they introduced recently. In the multidimensional setting, we show this result for a general $\mathcal{C}^{1}$ bounded open set of $\mathbb{R}^{d}$ and obtain the result in the stationary and the evolution type cases.
