Exotic localization for the bound states in the non-reciprocal two-particle Hubbard model

We investigate the localization behavior of two-particle Hubbard model in the presence of non-reciprocal tunneling and non-Hermitian bound states can be obtained with strong repulsive interaction. Remarkably, the interaction induced bound state localization (BSL) can compete with non-Hermitian skin effect (NHSE) and give rise to diverse density profiles. Via the quantum scattering methods in the center of mass frame, the system can be mapped to an effective two dimensional (2D) lattice with the two-particle interaction contributing to a defective line. For the bound states of the largest eigen-energy, in contrast to the Hermitian cases, where the maximal localization center is pinned around the center of lattice, NHSE can lead to a faded diagonal line localization. For the unbound scattering states, unlike the single corner localization in the 2D Hatano-Nelson model, interaction can force the total localization to split into multiple centers. To make the system topological nontrivial, we further include terms taking the form of two-photon tunneling and the non-Hermitian photon bound pairs are also observed, which demonstrates a competition among NHSE, BSL and edge localization. Finally, we propose the experimental simulations via the platforms of electrical circuits. Our works shed light on the crossover study of quantum optics and non-Hermitian many body physics.

HaVen: Hallucination-Mitigated LLM for Verilog Code Generation Aligned with HDL Engineers

Recently, the use of large language models (LLMs) for Verilog code generation has attracted great research interest to enable hardware design automation. However, previous works have shown a gap between the ability of LLMs and the practical demands of hardware description language (HDL) engineering. This gap includes differences in how engineers phrase questions and hallucinations in the code generated. To address these challenges, we introduce HaVen, a novel LLM framework designed to mitigate hallucinations and align Verilog code generation with the practices of HDL engineers. HaVen tackles hallucination issues by proposing a comprehensive taxonomy and employing a chain-of-thought (CoT) mechanism to translate symbolic modalities (e.g. truth tables, state diagrams, etc.) into accurate natural language descriptions. Furthermore, HaVen bridges this gap by using a data augmentation strategy. It synthesizes high-quality instruction-code pairs that match real HDL engineering practices. Our experiments demonstrate that HaVen significantly improves the correctness of Verilog code generation, outperforming state-of-the-art LLM-based Verilog generation methods on VerilogEval and RTLLM benchmark. HaVen is publicly available at https://github.com/Intelligent-Computing-Research-Group/HaVen.

From Elements to Design: A Layered Approach for Automatic Graphic Design Composition

In this work, we investigate automatic design composition from multimodal graphic elements. Although recent studies have developed various generative models for graphic design, they usually face the following limitations: they only focus on certain subtasks and are far from achieving the design composition task; they do not consider the hierarchical information of graphic designs during the generation process. To tackle these issues, we introduce the layered design principle into Large Multimodal Models (LMMs) and propose a novel approach, called LaDeCo, to accomplish this challenging task. Specifically, LaDeCo first performs layer planning for a given element set, dividing the input elements into different semantic layers according to their contents. Based on the planning results, it subsequently predicts element attributes that control the design composition in a layer-wise manner, and includes the rendered image of previously generated layers into the context. With this insightful design, LaDeCo decomposes the difficult task into smaller manageable steps, making the generation process smoother and clearer. The experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness of LaDeCo in design composition. Furthermore, we show that LaDeCo enables some interesting applications in graphic design, such as resolution adjustment, element filling, design variation, etc. In addition, it even outperforms the specialized models in some design subtasks without any task-specific training.

On Scalable Design for User-Centric Multi-Modal Shared E-Mobility Systems using MILP and Modified Dijkstra's Algorithm

In the rapidly evolving landscape of urban transportation, shared e-mobility services have emerged as a sustainable solution to meet growing demand for flexible, eco-friendly travel. However, the existing literature lacks a comprehensive multi-modal optimization framework with focus on user preferences and real-world constraints. This paper presents a multi-modal optimization framework for shared e-mobility, with a particular focus on e-mobility hubs (e-hubs) with micromobility. We propose and evaluate two approaches: a mixed-integer linear programming (MILP) solution, complemented by a heuristic graph reduction technique to manage computational complexity in scenarios with limited e-hubs, achieving a computational advantage of 93%, 72%, and 47% for 20, 50, and 100 e-hubs, respectively. Additionally, the modified Dijkstra's algorithm offers a more scalable, real-time alternative for larger e-hub networks, with median execution times consistently around 53 ms, regardless of the number of e-hubs. Thorough experimental evaluation on real-world map and simulated traffic data of Dublin City Centre reveals that both methods seamlessly adapt to practical considerations and constraints such as multi-modality, user-preferences and state of charge for different e-mobility tools. While MILP offers greater flexibility for incorporating additional objectives and constraints, the modified Dijkstra's algorithm is better suited for large-scale, real-time applications due to its computational efficiency.

Schatten classes and commutators in the two weight setting, II. Riesz transforms

We characterize the Schatten class $S^p$ of the commutator of Riesz transforms $[b,R_j]$ in $\mathbb R^n$ ($j=1,\ldots, n$) in the two weight setting for $n< p<\infty$, by introducing the condition that the symbol $b$ being in Besov spaces associated with the given two weights. At the critical index $p=n$, the commutator $[b,R_j]$ belongs to Schatten class $S^{n}$ if and only if $b$ is a constant, and to the weak Schatten class $S^{n,\infty}$ if and only if $b$ is in an oscillation sequence space associated with the given two weights. As a direct application, we have the Schatten class estimate for A. Connes' quantised derivative in the two weight setting.

Weighted Estimates of Singular Integrals and Commutators in the Zygmund Dilation Setting

The main purpose of this paper is to establish weighted estimates for singular integrals associated with Zygmund dilations via a discrete Littlewood--Paley theory, and then apply it to obtain the upper bound of the norm of commutators of such singular integrals with a function in the little bmo space associated with Zygmund dilations. Examples of such singular integrals associated with Zygmund dilations include a class of singular integrals studied by Ricci--Stein and Fefferman--Pipher, as well as a singular integral along a particular surface studied by Nagel--Wainger. We show that the lower bound of the norm of this commutator is not true for any singular integral in the class considered in Ricci--Stein and Fefferman--Pipher, but does in fact hold for the specific singular integral studied in Nagel--Wainger. In particular this implies that the family of singular integrals studied in these papers is not sufficiently general to contain the operator of Nagel--Wainger, which we show is of significance in this theory.

Spectral asymptotic formula of Bessel--Riesz commutator

Let $R_{λ,j}$ be the $j$-th Bessel--Riesz transform, where $n\geq 1$, $λ>0$, and $j=1,\ldots,n+1$. In this article, we establish a Weyl type asymptotic for $[M_f,R_{λ,j}]$, the commutator of $R_{λ,j}$ with multiplication operator $M_f$, based on building a preliminary result that the endpoint weak Schatten norm of $[M_f,R_{λ,j}]$ can be characterised via homogeneous Sobolev norm $\dot{W}^{1,n+1}(\mathbb{R}_+^{n+1})$ of the symbol $f$. Specifically, the asymptotic coefficient is equivalent to $\|f\|_{\dot{W}^{1,n+1}(\mathbb{R}_+^{n+1})}.$ Our main strategy is to relate Bessel--Riesz commutator to classical Riesz commutator via Schur multipliers, and then to establish the boundedness of Schur multipliers.

Data-driven Energy Consumption Modelling for Electric Micromobility using an Open Dataset

The escalating challenges of traffic congestion and environmental degradation underscore the critical importance of embracing E-Mobility solutions in urban spaces. In particular, micro E-Mobility tools such as E-scooters and E-bikes, play a pivotal role in this transition, offering sustainable alternatives for urban commuters. However, the energy consumption patterns for these tools are a critical aspect that impacts their effectiveness in real-world scenarios and is essential for trip planning and boosting user confidence in using these. To this effect, recent studies have utilised physical models customised for specific mobility tools and conditions, but these models struggle with generalization and effectiveness in real-world scenarios due to a notable absence of open datasets for thorough model evaluation and verification. To fill this gap, our work presents an open dataset, collected in Dublin, Ireland, specifically designed for energy modelling research related to E-Scooters and E-Bikes. Furthermore, we provide a comprehensive analysis of energy consumption modelling based on the dataset using a set of representative machine learning algorithms and compare their performance against the contemporary mathematical models as a baseline. Our results demonstrate a notable advantage for data-driven models in comparison to the corresponding mathematical models for estimating energy consumption. Specifically, data-driven models outperform physical models in accuracy by up to 83.83% for E-Bikes and 82.16% for E-Scooters based on an in-depth analysis of the dataset under certain assumptions.

Search for young stellar objects within 4XMM-DR13 using CatBoost and SPE

Classifying and summarizing large data sets from different sky survey projects is essential for various subsequent scientific research. By combining data from 4XMM-DR13, SDSS DR18, and CatWISE, we formed an XMM-WISE-SDSS sample that included information in the X-ray, optical, and infrared bands. By cross-matching this sample with datasets from known spectral classifications from SDSS and LAMOST, we obtained a training dataset containing stars, galaxies, quasars, and Young Stellar Objects (YSOs). Two machine learning methods, CatBoost and Self-Paced Ensemble (SPE), were used to train and construct machine learning models through training sets to classify the XMM-WISE-SDSS sample. Notably, the SPE classifier showed excellent performance in YSO classification, identifying 1102 YSO candidates from 160,545 sources, including 258 known YSOs. Then we further verify whether these candidates are YSOs by the spectra in LAMOST and the identification in the SIMBAD and VizieR dabtabases. Finally there are 412 unidentified YSO candidates. The discovery of these new YSOs is an important addition to existing YSO samples and will deepen our understanding of star formation and evolution. Moreover we provided a classification catalog for the whole XMM-WISE-SDSS sample.

Contribution of Wiggler to Radiation Integral in an Electron Storage Ring

With the advancement of accelerator light sources, the application of wiggler becomes more and more important, for example to speed up damping or generate synchrotron radiation. The quantum excitation contribution of such a wiggler to the electron beam emittance in a storage ring should be carefully evaluated when small emittance is desired. What found in literature is an approximate formula. Here we present a more exact result, which is of value for future light source development.

Hölder regularity and Liouville Theorem for the Schrödinger equation with certain critical potentials, and applications to Dirichlet problems

Let $(X,d,μ)$ be a metric measure space satisfying a doubling property with the upper/lower dimension $Q\ge n>1$, and admitting an $L^2$-Poincaré inequality. In this article, we establish the Hölder continuity and a Liouville-type theorem for the (elliptic-type) Schrödinger equation $$\mathbb L u(x,t)=-\partial^2_{t}u(x,t)+\mathcal L u(x,t)+V(x)u(x,t)=0,\quad x\in X,\, t\in\mathbb R, $$ where $\mathcal L$ is a non-negative operator generated by a Dirichlet form on $X$, and the non-negative potential $V$ is a Muckenhoupt weight belonging to the reverse Hölder class ${RH}_q(X)$ for some $q>\max\{Q/2,1\}$. Note that $Q/2$ is critical for the regularity theory of $-Δ+V$ on $\mathbb{R}^Q$ ($Q\ge3$) by Shen's work in 1995, which hints the critical index of $V$ for the regularity results above on $X\times \mathbb R$ may be $(Q+1)/2$. Our results show that this critical index is in fact $\max\{Q/2,1\}$. Our approach primarily relies on the controllable growth of $V$ and the elliptic theory for the operator $\mathbb L$/$-\partial^2_{t}+\mathcal{L}$ on $X\times \mathbb R$, rather than the analogs for $\mathcal L+V$/$\mathcal{L}$ on $X$, under the critical index setting. As applications, we further obtain some characterizations for solutions to the Schrödinger equation $-\partial^2_{t}u+\mathcal L u+Vu=0$ in $X\times \mathbb R_+$ with boundary values in BMO/CMO/Morrey spaces related to $V$, improving previous results to the critical index $q>\max\{Q/2,1\}$.

Calderón's commutator on Stratified Lie groups

Motivated by the recent work of Gimperlein and Goffeng on Calderón's commutator on compact Heisenberg type manifolds and the related weak Schatten class estimates, we establish the characterisation of $L^p$ boundedness for Calderon's commutator on stratified Lie groups. We further study related weak Schatten class estimates for second order commutators on two step stratified Lie groups, which include the Heisenberg groups. This latter result is obtained using double operator integral techniques which are novel in this area.

Efficient Diffusion Transformer with Step-wise Dynamic Attention Mediators

This paper identifies significant redundancy in the query-key interactions within self-attention mechanisms of diffusion transformer models, particularly during the early stages of denoising diffusion steps. In response to this observation, we present a novel diffusion transformer framework incorporating an additional set of mediator tokens to engage with queries and keys separately. By modulating the number of mediator tokens during the denoising generation phases, our model initiates the denoising process with a precise, non-ambiguous stage and gradually transitions to a phase enriched with detail. Concurrently, integrating mediator tokens simplifies the attention module's complexity to a linear scale, enhancing the efficiency of global attention processes. Additionally, we propose a time-step dynamic mediator token adjustment mechanism that further decreases the required computational FLOPs for generation, simultaneously facilitating the generation of high-quality images within the constraints of varied inference budgets. Extensive experiments demonstrate that the proposed method can improve the generated image quality while also reducing the inference cost of diffusion transformers. When integrated with the recent work SiT, our method achieves a state-of-the-art FID score of 2.01. The source code is available at https://github.com/LeapLabTHU/Attention-Mediators.

Glyph-ByT5: A Customized Text Encoder for Accurate Visual Text Rendering

Visual text rendering poses a fundamental challenge for contemporary text-to-image generation models, with the core problem lying in text encoder deficiencies. To achieve accurate text rendering, we identify two crucial requirements for text encoders: character awareness and alignment with glyphs. Our solution involves crafting a series of customized text encoder, Glyph-ByT5, by fine-tuning the character-aware ByT5 encoder using a meticulously curated paired glyph-text dataset. We present an effective method for integrating Glyph-ByT5 with SDXL, resulting in the creation of the Glyph-SDXL model for design image generation. This significantly enhances text rendering accuracy, improving it from less than $20\%$ to nearly $90\%$ on our design image benchmark. Noteworthy is Glyph-SDXL's newfound ability for text paragraph rendering, achieving high spelling accuracy for tens to hundreds of characters with automated multi-line layouts. Finally, through fine-tuning Glyph-SDXL with a small set of high-quality, photorealistic images featuring visual text, we showcase a substantial improvement in scene text rendering capabilities in open-domain real images. These compelling outcomes aim to encourage further exploration in designing customized text encoders for diverse and challenging tasks.

Glyph-ByT5-v2: A Strong Aesthetic Baseline for Accurate Multilingual Visual Text Rendering

Recently, Glyph-ByT5 has achieved highly accurate visual text rendering performance in graphic design images. However, it still focuses solely on English and performs relatively poorly in terms of visual appeal. In this work, we address these two fundamental limitations by presenting Glyph-ByT5-v2 and Glyph-SDXL-v2, which not only support accurate visual text rendering for 10 different languages but also achieve much better aesthetic quality. To achieve this, we make the following contributions: (i) creating a high-quality multilingual glyph-text and graphic design dataset consisting of more than 1 million glyph-text pairs and 10 million graphic design image-text pairs covering nine other languages, (ii) building a multilingual visual paragraph benchmark consisting of 1,000 prompts, with 100 for each language, to assess multilingual visual spelling accuracy, and (iii) leveraging the latest step-aware preference learning approach to enhance the visual aesthetic quality. With the combination of these techniques, we deliver a powerful customized multilingual text encoder, Glyph-ByT5-v2, and a strong aesthetic graphic generation model, Glyph-SDXL-v2, that can support accurate spelling in 10 different languages. We perceive our work as a significant advancement, considering that the latest DALL-E3 and Ideogram 1.0 still struggle with the multilingual visual text rendering task.

Unfolding a Hopf bifurcation in a linear reaction-diffusion equation with strongly localized impurity existence of breathing pulses

This paper presents a general framework to derive the weakly nonlinear stability near a Hopf bifurcation in a special class of multi-scale reaction-diffusion equations. The main focus is on how the linearity and nonlinearity of the fast variables in system influence the emergence of the breathing pulses when the slow variables are linear and the bifurcation parameter is around the Hopf bifurcation point. By applying the matching principle to the fast and slow changing quantities and using the relevant theory of singular perturbation, we obtain explicit expressions for the stationary pulses. Then, the normal form theory and the center manifold theory are applied to give Hopf normal form expressions. Finally, one of these expressions is verified by the numerical simulation.

Aligning Vision Models with Human Aesthetics in Retrieval: Benchmarks and Algorithms

Modern vision models are trained on very large noisy datasets. While these models acquire strong capabilities, they may not follow the user's intent to output the desired results in certain aspects, e.g., visual aesthetic, preferred style, and responsibility. In this paper, we target the realm of visual aesthetics and aim to align vision models with human aesthetic standards in a retrieval system. Advanced retrieval systems usually adopt a cascade of aesthetic models as re-rankers or filters, which are limited to low-level features like saturation and perform poorly when stylistic, cultural or knowledge contexts are involved. We find that utilizing the reasoning ability of large language models (LLMs) to rephrase the search query and extend the aesthetic expectations can make up for this shortcoming. Based on the above findings, we propose a preference-based reinforcement learning method that fine-tunes the vision models to distill the knowledge from both LLMs reasoning and the aesthetic models to better align the vision models with human aesthetics. Meanwhile, with rare benchmarks designed for evaluating retrieval systems, we leverage large multi-modality model (LMM) to evaluate the aesthetic performance with their strong abilities. As aesthetic assessment is one of the most subjective tasks, to validate the robustness of LMM, we further propose a novel dataset named HPIR to benchmark the alignment with human aesthetics. Experiments demonstrate that our method significantly enhances the aesthetic behaviors of the vision models, under several metrics. We believe the proposed algorithm can be a general practice for aligning vision models with human values.
