Quantum stochastic communication via high-dimensional entanglement

Entanglement has the ability to enhance the transmission of classical information over a quantum channel. However, fully harvesting this advantage typically requires complex entangling measurements, which are challenging to implement and scale with the system's size. In this work, we consider a natural quantum information primitive in which the message to be communicated is selected stochastically. We introduce a protocol that leverages high-dimensional entanglement to perform this task perfectly, without requiring quantum interference between particles at the measurement station. We experimentally demonstrate the protocol's scalability in an optical setup using 8-dimensional entanglement and multi-outcome detection, providing a practical solution for stochastic communication and a robust method for certifying the dimensionality of entanglement in communication experiments.

Nonlocal photonic quantum gates over 7.0 km

Quantum networks provide a prospective paradigm to connect separated quantum nodes, which relies on the distribution of long-distance entanglement and active feedforward control of qubits between remote nodes. Such approaches can be utilized to construct nonlocal quantum gates, forming building blocks for distributed quantum computing and other novel quantum applications. However, these gates have only been realized within single nodes or between nodes separated by a few tens of meters, limiting the ability to harness computing resources in large-scale quantum networks. Here, we demonstrate nonlocal photonic quantum gates between two nodes spatially separated by 7.0 km using stationary qubits based on multiplexed quantum memories, flying qubits at telecom wavelengths, and active feedforward control based on field-deployed fibers. Furthermore, we illustrate quantum parallelism by implementing the Deutsch-Jozsa algorithm and the quantum phase estimation algorithm between the two remote nodes. These results represent a proof-of-principle demonstration of quantum gates over metropolitan-scale distances and lay the foundation for the construction of large-scale distributed quantum networks relying on existing fiber channels.

Generalized Iterative Formula for Bell Inequalities

Bell inequalities are a vital tool to detect the nonlocal correlations, but the construction of them for multipartite systems is still a complicated problem. In this work, inspired via a decomposition of $(n+1)$-partite Bell inequalities into $n$-partite ones, we present a generalized iterative formula to construct nontrivial $(n+1)$-partite ones from the $n$-partite ones. Our iterative formulas recover the well-known Mermin-Ardehali-Belinski{\uı}-Klyshko (MABK) and other families in the literature as special cases. Moreover, a family of ``dual-use'' Bell inequalities is proposed, in the sense that for the generalized Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger states these inequalities lead to the same quantum violation as the MABK family and, at the same time, the inequalities are able to detect the non-locality in the entire entangled region. Furthermore, we present generalizations of the the I3322 inequality to any $n$-partite case which are still tight, and of the $46$ Śliwa's inequalities to the four-partite tight ones, by applying our iteration method to each inequality and its equivalence class.
