Global existence and stability of viscous Alfvén waves in the large-box limit for MHD systems

This paper rigorously analyzes how the {\it large box limit} fundamentally alters the global existence theory and dynamics behavior of the incompressible magnetohydrodynamics (MHD) system with small viscosity/resistivity $(0<μ\ll 1)$ on periodic domains $Q_L=[-L,L]^3$, in presence of a strong background magnetic field. While the existence of global solutions (viscous Alfvén waves) on the whole space $\R^3$ was previously established in \cite{He-Xu-Yu}, such results cannot be expected for general finite periodic domains. We demonstrate that global solutions do exist on the torus $Q_L=[-L,L]^3$ precisely when the domain exceeds a size $L_μ>e^{\f1μ}$, providing the first quantitative characterization of the transition to infinite-domain-like behavior.

ReWiND: Language-Guided Rewards Teach Robot Policies without New Demonstrations

We introduce ReWiND, a framework for learning robot manipulation tasks solely from language instructions without per-task demonstrations. Standard reinforcement learning (RL) and imitation learning methods require expert supervision through human-designed reward functions or demonstrations for every new task. In contrast, ReWiND starts from a small demonstration dataset to learn: (1) a data-efficient, language-conditioned reward function that labels the dataset with rewards, and (2) a language-conditioned policy pre-trained with offline RL using these rewards. Given an unseen task variation, ReWiND fine-tunes the pre-trained policy using the learned reward function, requiring minimal online interaction. We show that ReWiND's reward model generalizes effectively to unseen tasks, outperforming baselines by up to 2.4x in reward generalization and policy alignment metrics. Finally, we demonstrate that ReWiND enables sample-efficient adaptation to new tasks, beating baselines by 2x in simulation and improving real-world pretrained bimanual policies by 5x, taking a step towards scalable, real-world robot learning. FR-Net: Learning Robust Quadrupedal Fall Recovery on Challenging Terrains through Mass-Contact Prediction

Fall recovery for legged robots remains challenging, particularly on complex terrains where traditional controllers fail due to incomplete terrain perception and uncertain interactions. We present \textbf{FR-Net}, a learning-based framework that enables quadrupedal robots to recover from arbitrary fall poses across diverse environments. Central to our approach is a Mass-Contact Predictor network that estimates the robot's mass distribution and contact states from limited sensory inputs, facilitating effective recovery strategies. Our carefully designed reward functions ensure safe recovery even on steep stairs without dangerous rolling motions common to existing methods. Trained entirely in simulation using privileged learning, our framework guides policy learning without requiring explicit terrain data during deployment. We demonstrate the generalization capabilities of \textbf{FR-Net} across different quadrupedal platforms in simulation and validate its performance through extensive real-world experiments on the Go2 robot in 10 challenging scenarios. Our results indicate that explicit mass-contact prediction is key to robust fall recovery, offering a promising direction for generalizable quadrupedal skills.

Optional subsampling for generalized estimating equations in growing-dimensional longitudinal Data

As a powerful tool for longitudinal data analysis, the generalized estimating equations have been widely studied in the academic community. However, in large-scale settings, this approach faces pronounced computational and storage challenges. In this paper, we propose an optimal Poisson subsampling algorithm for generalized estimating equations in large-scale longitudinal data with diverging covariate dimension, and establish the asymptotic properties of the resulting estimator. We further derive the optimal Poisson subsampling probability based on A- and L-optimality criteria. An approximate optimal Poisson subsampling algorithm is proposed, which adopts a two-step procedure to construct these probabilities. Simulation studies are conducted to evaluate the performance of the proposed method under three different working correlation matrices. The results show that the method remains effective even when the working correlation matrices are misspecified. Finally, we apply the proposed method to the CHFS dataset to illustrate its empirical performance.

Versatile Transition Generation with Image-to-Video Diffusion

Leveraging text, images, structure maps, or motion trajectories as conditional guidance, diffusion models have achieved great success in automated and high-quality video generation. However, generating smooth and rational transition videos given the first and last video frames as well as descriptive text prompts is far underexplored. We present VTG, a Versatile Transition video Generation framework that can generate smooth, high-fidelity, and semantically coherent video transitions. VTG introduces interpolation-based initialization that helps preserve object identity and handle abrupt content changes effectively. In addition, it incorporates dual-directional motion fine-tuning and representation alignment regularization to mitigate the limitations of pre-trained image-to-video diffusion models in motion smoothness and generation fidelity, respectively. To evaluate VTG and facilitate future studies on unified transition generation, we collected TransitBench, a comprehensive benchmark for transition generation covering two representative transition tasks: concept blending and scene transition. Extensive experiments show that VTG achieves superior transition performance consistently across all four tasks.

PCR-GS: COLMAP-Free 3D Gaussian Splatting via Pose Co-Regularizations

COLMAP-free 3D Gaussian Splatting (3D-GS) has recently attracted increasing attention due to its remarkable performance in reconstructing high-quality 3D scenes from unposed images or videos. However, it often struggles to handle scenes with complex camera trajectories as featured by drastic rotation and translation across adjacent camera views, leading to degraded estimation of camera poses and further local minima in joint optimization of camera poses and 3D-GS. We propose PCR-GS, an innovative COLMAP-free 3DGS technique that achieves superior 3D scene modeling and camera pose estimation via camera pose co-regularization. PCR-GS achieves regularization from two perspectives. The first is feature reprojection regularization which extracts view-robust DINO features from adjacent camera views and aligns their semantic information for camera pose regularization. The second is wavelet-based frequency regularization which exploits discrepancy in high-frequency details to further optimize the rotation matrix in camera poses. Extensive experiments over multiple real-world scenes show that the proposed PCR-GS achieves superior pose-free 3D-GS scene modeling under dramatic changes of camera trajectories.

Well-balanced path-conservative discontinuous Galerkin methods with equilibrium preserving space for shallow water linearized moment equations

This paper presents high-order, well-balanced, path-conservative discontinuous Galerkin (DG) methods for the shallow water linearized moment equations (SWLME), designed to preserve both still and moving water equilibrium states. Unlike the multi-layer shallow water equations, which model vertical velocity variations using multiple distinct layers, the SWLME employs a polynomial expansion of velocity profiles with up to $N$ moments. This approach enables a more detailed representation of vertical momentum transfer and complex velocity profiles while retaining hyperbolicity. However, the presence of non-conservative terms and complex steady-state structures introduces significant numerical challenges. Addressing these challenges, we develop path-conservative DG schemes grounded in the Dal Maso-LeFloch-Murat (DLM) theory for non-conservative products. Our method balances flux gradients, non-conservative terms, and source terms through equilibrium-preserving spaces. For the still water equilibrium, we reformulate the equations into a quasilinear form that eliminates source terms, inherently preserving steady states. For the moving water equilibrium, we extend the DG method by transforming conservative variables into equilibrium variables and employing linear segment paths. Theoretical analysis and numerical experiments demonstrate that the proposed methods achieve exact equilibrium preservation while maintaining high-order accuracy, even in scenarios with vertical velocity variations and complex topographies.

Accurate and efficient predictions of keyhole dynamics in laser materials processing using machine learning-aided simulations

The keyhole phenomenon has been widely observed in laser materials processing, including laser welding, remelting, cladding, drilling, and additive manufacturing. Keyhole-induced defects, primarily pores, dramatically affect the performance of final products, impeding the broad use of these laser-based technologies. The formation of these pores is typically associated with the dynamic behavior of the keyhole. So far, the accurate characterization and prediction of keyhole features, particularly keyhole depth, as a function of time, has been a challenging task. In situ characterization of keyhole dynamic behavior using the synchrotron X-ray technique is informative but complicated and expensive. Current simulations are generally hindered by their poor accuracy and generalization abilities in predicting keyhole depths due to the lack of accurate laser absorptance data. In this study, we develop a machine learning-aided simulation method that accurately predicts keyhole dynamics, especially in keyhole depth fluctuations, over a wide range of processing parameters. In two case studies involving titanium and aluminum alloys, we achieve keyhole depth prediction with a mean absolute percentage error of 10%, surpassing those simulated using the ray-tracing method with an error margin of 30%, while also reducing computational time. This exceptional fidelity and efficiency empower our model to serve as a cost-effective alternative to synchrotron experiments. Our machine learning-aided simulation method is affordable and readily deployable for a large variety of materials, opening new doors to eliminate or reduce defects for a wide range of laser materials processing techniques.

SOGS: Second-Order Anchor for Advanced 3D Gaussian Splatting

Anchor-based 3D Gaussian splatting (3D-GS) exploits anchor features in 3D Gaussian prediction, which has achieved impressive 3D rendering quality with reduced Gaussian redundancy. On the other hand, it often encounters the dilemma among anchor features, model size, and rendering quality - large anchor features lead to large 3D models and high-quality rendering whereas reducing anchor features degrades Gaussian attribute prediction which leads to clear artifacts in the rendered textures and geometries. We design SOGS, an anchor-based 3D-GS technique that introduces second-order anchors to achieve superior rendering quality and reduced anchor features and model size simultaneously. Specifically, SOGS incorporates covariance-based second-order statistics and correlation across feature dimensions to augment features within each anchor, compensating for the reduced feature size and improving rendering quality effectively. In addition, it introduces a selective gradient loss to enhance the optimization of scene textures and scene geometries, leading to high-quality rendering with small anchor features. Extensive experiments over multiple widely adopted benchmarks show that SOGS achieves superior rendering quality in novel view synthesis with clearly reduced model size.

VidSketch: Hand-drawn Sketch-Driven Video Generation with Diffusion Control

With the advancement of generative artificial intelligence, previous studies have achieved the task of generating aesthetic images from hand-drawn sketches, fulfilling the public's needs for drawing. However, these methods are limited to static images and lack the ability to control video animation generation using hand-drawn sketches. To address this gap, we propose VidSketch, the first method capable of generating high-quality video animations directly from any number of hand-drawn sketches and simple text prompts, bridging the divide between ordinary users and professional artists. Specifically, our method introduces a Level-Based Sketch Control Strategy to automatically adjust the guidance strength of sketches during the generation process, accommodating users with varying drawing skills. Furthermore, a TempSpatial Attention mechanism is designed to enhance the spatiotemporal consistency of generated video animations, significantly improving the coherence across frames. HuViDPO:Enhancing Video Generation through Direct Preference Optimization for Human-Centric Alignment

With the rapid development of AIGC technology, significant progress has been made in diffusion model-based technologies for text-to-image (T2I) and text-to-video (T2V). In recent years, a few studies have introduced the strategy of Direct Preference Optimization (DPO) into T2I tasks, significantly enhancing human preferences in generated images. However, existing T2V generation methods lack a well-formed pipeline with exact loss function to guide the alignment of generated videos with human preferences using DPO strategies. Additionally, challenges such as the scarcity of paired video preference data hinder effective model training. At the same time, the lack of training datasets poses a risk of insufficient flexibility and poor video generation quality in the generated videos. Based on those problems, our work proposes three targeted solutions in sequence. 1) Our work is the first to introduce the DPO strategy into the T2V tasks. By deriving a carefully structured loss function, we utilize human feedback to align video generation with human preferences. We refer to this new method as HuViDPO. 2) Our work constructs small-scale human preference datasets for each action category and fine-tune this model, improving the aesthetic quality of the generated videos while reducing training costs. 3) We adopt a First-Frame-Conditioned strategy, leveraging the rich in formation from the first frame to guide the generation of subsequent frames, enhancing flexibility in video generation. At the same time, we employ a SparseCausal Attention mechanism to enhance the quality of the generated videos.More details and examples can be accessed on our website: https://tankowa.github.io/HuViDPO. github.io/.

Learning an Adaptive Fall Recovery Controller for Quadrupeds on Complex Terrains

Legged robots have shown promise in locomotion complex environments, but recovery from falls on challenging terrains remains a significant hurdle. This paper presents an Adaptive Fall Recovery (AFR) controller for quadrupedal robots on challenging terrains such as rocky, breams, steep slopes, and irregular stones. We leverage deep reinforcement learning to train the AFR, which can adapt to a wide range of terrain geometries and physical properties. Our method demonstrates improvements over existing approaches, showing promising results in recovery scenarios on challenging terrains. We trained our method in Isaac Gym using the Go1 and directly transferred it to several mainstream quadrupedal platforms, such as Spot and ANYmal. Additionally, we validated the controller's effectiveness in Gazebo. Our results indicate that the AFR controller generalizes well to complex terrains and outperforms baseline methods in terms of success rate and recovery speed.

Augmenting Sequential Recommendation with Balanced Relevance and Diversity

By generating new yet effective data, data augmentation has become a promising method to mitigate the data sparsity problem in sequential recommendation. Existing works focus on augmenting the original data but rarely explore the issue of imbalanced relevance and diversity for augmented data, leading to semantic drift problems or limited performance improvements. In this paper, we propose a novel Balanced data Augmentation Plugin for Sequential Recommendation (BASRec) to generate data that balance relevance and diversity. BASRec consists of two modules: Single-sequence Augmentation and Cross-sequence Augmentation. The former leverages the randomness of the heuristic operators to generate diverse sequences for a single user, after which the diverse and the original sequences are fused at the representation level to obtain relevance. Further, we devise a reweighting strategy to enable the model to learn the preferences based on the two properties adaptively. The Cross-sequence Augmentation performs nonlinear mixing between different sequence representations from two directions. It produces virtual sequence representations that are diverse enough but retain the vital semantics of the original sequences. These two modules enhance the model to discover fine-grained preferences knowledge from single-user and cross-user perspectives. Extensive experiments verify the effectiveness of BASRec. The average improvement is up to 72.0% on GRU4Rec, 33.8% on SASRec, and 68.5% on FMLP-Rec. We demonstrate that BASRec generates data with a better balance between relevance and diversity than existing methods. The source code is available at https://github.com/KingGugu/BASRec.

One-way multiple beam splitter designed by quantum-like shortcut-to-adiabatic passage

Based on the quantum mechanical "Shortcut-to-Adiabatic passage" (STAP), a novel design for the efficient and robust multiple beam splitter is presented in this paper. This multiple beam splitter consists of one input and $N$ output waveguide channels, which are connected via a mediator waveguide (WG). To implement "STAP" but without additional couplings, this $(N+2)$-WG system is first reduced to a controllable $3$-WGs counterpart by "Morris-Shore" (MS) transformation. Consequently, the reduced system can be directly compatible with all possible "STAP" methods. The results show that this novel design can achieve arbitrary ratio of multiple beam splitting and can significantly shorten the length of the device, which expands the application of "STAP" in classical system and provides a direct visualization in space of typical ultra-fast phenomena in time. More uniquely, this new design exhibits a one-way energy transport behavior. These may have profound impacts on exploring quantum technologies for promoting advanced optical devices.

High resistance of superconducting TiN thin films against environmental attacks

Superconductors, an essential class of functional materials, hold a vital position in both fundamental science and practical applications. However, most superconductors, including MgB$_2$, Bi$_2$Sr$_2$CaCu$_2$O$_{8+δ}$, and FeSe, are highly sensitive to environmental attacks (such as water and moist air), hindering their wide applications. More importantly, the surface physical and chemical processes of most superconductors in various environments remain poorly understood. Here, we comprehensively investigate the high resistance of superconducting titanium nitride (TiN) epitaxial films against acid and alkali attacks. Unexpectedly, despite immersion in acid and alkaline solutions for over 7 days, the crystal structure and superconducting properties of TiN films remain stable, as demonstrated by high-resolution X-ray diffraction, electrical transport, atomic force microscopy, and scanning electron microscope. Furthermore, combining scanning transmission electron microscopy analysis with density functional theory calculations revealed the corrosion mechanisms: acid corrosions lead to the creation of numerous defects due to the substitution of Cl ions for N anions, whereas alkaline environments significantly reduce the film thickness through the stabilization of OH$^\ast$ adsorbates. Our results uncover the unexpected stability and durability of superconducting materials against environmental attacks, highlighting their potential for enhanced reliability and longevity in diverse applications.

Stochastic Real-Time Economic Dispatch for Integrated Electric and Gas Systems Considering Uncertainty Propagation and Pipeline Leakage

Gas-fired units (GFUs) with rapid regulation capabilities are considered an effective tool to mitigate fluctuations in the generation of renewable energy sources and have coupled electricity power systems (EPSs) and natural gas systems (NGSs) more tightly. However, this tight coupling leads to uncertainty propagation, a challenge for the real-time dispatch of such integrated electric and gas systems (IEGSs). Moreover, pipeline leakage failures in the NGS may threaten the electricity supply reliability of the EPS through GFUs. To address these problems, this paper first establishes an operational model considering gas pipeline dynamic characteristics under uncertain leakage failures for the NGS and then presents a stochastic IEGS real-time economic dispatch (RTED) model considering both uncertainty propagation and pipeline leakage uncertainty. To quickly solve this complicated large-scale stochastic optimization problem, a novel notion of the coupling boundary dynamic adjustment region considering pipeline leakage failure (LCBDAR) is proposed to characterize the dynamic characteristics of the NGS boundary connecting GFUs. Based on the LCBDAR, a noniterative decentralized solution is proposed to decompose the original stochastic RTED model into two subproblems that are solved separately by the EPS and NGS operators, thus preserving their data privacy. In particular, only one-time data interaction from the NGS to the EPS is required. Case studies on several IEGSs at different scales demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.

WoVoGen: World Volume-aware Diffusion for Controllable Multi-camera Driving Scene Generation

Generating multi-camera street-view videos is critical for augmenting autonomous driving datasets, addressing the urgent demand for extensive and varied data. Due to the limitations in diversity and challenges in handling lighting conditions, traditional rendering-based methods are increasingly being supplanted by diffusion-based methods. However, a significant challenge in diffusion-based methods is ensuring that the generated sensor data preserve both intra-world consistency and inter-sensor coherence. To address these challenges, we combine an additional explicit world volume and propose the World Volume-aware Multi-camera Driving Scene Generator (WoVoGen). This system is specifically designed to leverage 4D world volume as a foundational element for video generation. Our model operates in two distinct phases: (i) envisioning the future 4D temporal world volume based on vehicle control sequences, and (ii) generating multi-camera videos, informed by this envisioned 4D temporal world volume and sensor interconnectivity. The incorporation of the 4D world volume empowers WoVoGen not only to generate high-quality street-view videos in response to vehicle control inputs but also to facilitate scene editing tasks.

Accurate Inverse Process Optimization Framework in Laser Directed Energy Deposition

In additive manufacturing (AM), particularly for laser-based metal AM, process optimization is crucial to the quality of products and the efficiency of production. The identification of optimal process parameters out of a vast parameter space, however, is a daunting task. Despite advances in simulations, the process optimization for specific materials and geometries is developed through a time-consuming trial-and-error approach, which often lacks the versatility to address multiple optimization objectives. Machine learning (ML) provides a powerful tool to accelerate the optimization process, but most current studies focus on simple single-track prints, which hardly translate to manufacturing 3D components for engineering applications. In this study, we develop an Accurate Inverse process optimization framework in laser Directed Energy Deposition (AIDED), based on machine learning models and a genetic algorithm, to aid process optimization in laser DED processes. Using the AIDED, we demonstrate the following: (i) Accurately predict single-track (R2 score 0.995), multi-track (R2 score 0.969), and multi-layer (1.07% and 10.75% error in width and height, respectively) cross-sectional melt pool geometries directly from process parameters; (ii) Determine appropriate hatch spacing and layer thickness for fabricating fully dense (density > 99.9%) multi-track and multi-layer prints; (iii) Inversely identify optimal process parameters directly from customizable application objectives within 1-3 hours. We also validate the effectiveness of the AIDED experimentally by achieving two exemplary targets: fast print speed and fine print resolution. Furthermore, we show the high transferability of the framework from stainless steel to pure nickel. With AIDED, we pave a new way for ''aiding'' the process optimization in the laser-based AM processes that is applicable to a wide range of materials.
