Mariño-Vafa Formula and Hodge Integral Identities

In this note we derive some consequences from the Mariño-Vafa formula and the cut-and-join equation, these include unified simple proofs of the $λ_g$ conjecture and some other Hodge integral identities. We also describe a proof of the ELSV formula relating Hurwitz numbers and Hodge integrals by using the cut-and-join equation, following our proof of the Mariño-Vafa formula.

A Formula of Two-Partition Hodge Integrals

We prove a formula conjectured by the third author expressing certain Hodge integrals in terms of certain Chern-Simons link invariants. Such invariants also arise in the representation theory of Kac-Moody algebras.

Elliptic Genera of Complete Intersections

We propose a new definition of the elliptic genera for complete intersections, not necessarily nonsingular, in projective spaces. We also prove they coincide with the expressions obtained from Landau-Ginzburg model by an elementary argument.

$K$-theory associated to vertex operator algebras

We introduce two $K$-theories, one for vector bundles whose fibers are modules of vertex operator algebras, another for vector bundles whose fibers are modules of associative algebras. We verify the cohomological properties of these $K$-theories, and construct a natural homomorphism from the VOA K-theory to the associative algebra K-theory.

Curve counting and instanton counting

We prove some combinatorial results required for the proof of the following conjecture of Nekrasov: The generating function of closed string invariants in local Calabi-Yau geometries obtained by appropriate fibrations of $A_N$ singularities over $P^1$ reproduce the generating function of equivariant $\hat{A}$-genera of moduli space of instants on $C^2$.

Hodge Integrals and Integrable Hierarchies

We show that the generating series of some Hodge integrals involving one or two partitions are tau-functions of the KP hierarchy or the 2-Toda hierarchy respectively. We also formulate a conjecture on the connection between relative invariants and integrable hierarchies. The conjecture is verified in some examples.

A Conjecture on Hodge Integrals

We propose a conjectural formula expressing the generating series of some Hodge integrals in terms of representation theory of Kac-Moody algebras. Such generating series appear in calculations of Gromov-Witten invariants by localization techniques. It generalizes a formula conjectured by Mariño and Vafa, recently proved in joint work with Chiu-Chu Melissa Liu and Kefeng Liu. Some examples are presented.

Localizations on Moduli Spaces and Free Field Realizations of Feynman Rules

We prove Iqbal's conjecture on the relationship between the free energy of closed string theory in local toric geometry and the Wess-Zumino-Witten model. This is achieved by first reformulating the calculations of the free energy by localization techniques in terms of suitable Feynman rule, then exploiting a realization of the Feynman rule by free bosons. We also use a formula of Hodge integrals conjectured by the author and proved jointly with Chiu-Chu Melissa Liu and Kefeng Liu.

Hodge integrals, Hurwitz numbers, and Symmetric Groups

We prove some combinatorial results related to a formula on Hodge integrals conjectured by Mariño and Vafa. These results play important roles in the proof and applications of this formula by the author jointly with Chiu-Chu Melissa Liu and Kefeng Liu. We also compare with some related results on Hurwitz numbers and obtain some closed expressions for the generating series of Hurwitz numbers and the related Hodge integrals.

Orbifold Hodge numbers of the wreath product orbifolds

We prove that the wreath product orbifolds studied earlier by the first author provide a large class of higher dimensional examples of orbifolds whose orbifold Hodge numbers coincide with the ordinary ones of suitable resolutions of singularities. We also make explicit conjectures on elliptic genera for the wreath product orbifolds.

Superconformal vertex algebras in differential geometry. I

We show how to construct an N=1 superconformal vertex algebra (SCVA) from any Riemannian manifold. When the Riemannian manifold has special holonomy groups, we discuss the extended supersymmetry. When the manifold is complex or Kähler, we also generalize the construction to obtain N=2 SCVA's. We study the BRST cohomology groups of the topological vertex algebras obtained by the $A$ twist and the $B$ twist from these N=2 SCVA's. We show that for one of them, the BRST cohomologies are isomorphic to $H^*(M, Λ^*(T^*M))$ and $H^*(M, Λ^*(TM))$ respectively. This provides a mathematical formulation of the $A$ theory and $B$ theory in physics literature. The connection with elliptic genera is also discussed. Furthermore, when the manifold is hyperkähler, we generalize our constructions to obtain N=4 SCVA's. A heuristic relationship with super loop space is also discussed.

DGBV Algebras and Mirror Symmetry

We describe some recent development on the theory of formal Frobenius manifolds via a construction from differential Gerstenhaber-Batalin-Vilkovisk (DGBV) algebras and formulate a version of mirror symmetry conjecture: the extended deformation problems of the complex structure and the Poisson structure are described by two DGBV algebras; mirror symmetry is interpreted in term of the invariance of the formal Frobenius manifold structures under quasi-isomorphism.

Rational homotopy types of mirror manifolds

We explain how to relate the problem of finding a mirror manifold for a Calabi-Yau manifold to the problem of characterizing the rational homotopy types of closed Kähler manifolds.

Delocalized equivariant coholomogy of symmetric products

For any closed complex manifold $X$, we calculate the Poincaré and Hodge polynomials of the delocalized equivariant cohomology $H^*(X^n, S_n)$ with a grading specified by physicists. As a consequence, we recover a special case of a formula for the elliptic genera of symmetric products in Dijkgraaf-Moore-Verlinde-Verlinde \cite{Dij-Moo-Ver-Ver}. For a projective surface X, our results matches with the corresponding formulas for the Hilbert scheme of X^[n]. We also give geometric construction of an action of a Heisenberg superalgebra on $\sum_{n \geq 0} H^{*,*}(X^n, S_n)$, imitating the constructions for equivariant K-theory by Segal \cite{Seg} and Wang \cite{Wan}. There is a corresponding version for $H^{-*, *}$.
