Lattice effect on the superexchange interaction in antiferromagnetic Bi$_2$Sr$_2$CaCu$_2$O$_8$

The in-plane superexchange interaction $J$ of cuprate superconductors has long been suggested to be an important parameter for exploring their high-temperature superconductivity. The bilayer Bi$_2$Sr$_2$CaCu$_2$O$_{8+δ}$ is the most studied system with high-quality single crystals in the wide doping range with the the same structure and phase. So far, the lattice parameter dependence of $J$ in its antiferromagnetic parent compound Bi$_2$Sr$_2$CaCu$_2$O$_{8}$ has not been established. By combining Raman scattering and x-ray diffraction techniques on the same sample in the same pressure environment, we obtain the evolution of both the two-magnon spectrum and the structural parameters with pressure up to nearly 30 GPa, The relationship between pressure or the in-plane lattice parameter and $J$ is thus established for Bi$_2$Sr$_2$CaCu$_2$O$_{8}$. Over the studied pressure range, superconductivity does not appear in this parent compound based on a sensitive magnetic measurement technique. The effects of pressure and chemical doping on the superexchange interaction and structure and their implications for superconductivity are discussed from the comparison of the obtained experimental data with the existing experiments. The results and findings provide valuable information for the understanding of superconductivity and the future theory developments for superconductivity in cuprates.

Spectroscopic Evidence for the Superconductivity of Elemental Metal Y under Pressure

Very high applied pressure induces superconductivity with the transition temperature ($T_c$) exceeding 19 K in elemental yttrium, but relatively little is known about the nature of that superconductivity. From point-contact spectroscopy (PCS) measurements in a diamond anvil cell (DAC), a strong enhancement in the differential conductance is revealed near the zero-biased voltage owing to Andreev reflection, a hallmark of the superconducting (SC) phase. Analysis of the PCS spectra based on the extended Blonder-Tinkham-Klapwijk (BTK) model indicates two SC gaps at 48.6 GPa, where the large gap $Δ_L$ is 3.63 meV and the small gap $Δ_S$ is 0.46 meV. When scaled against a reduced temperature, both small and large SC gaps collapse on a single curve that follows the prediction from BCS theory. The SC gap-to-$T_c$ ratio is 8.2 for the larger gap, and the initial slope of the upper critical field is -1.9 T/K, indicating that Y belongs to a family of strongly coupled BCS superconductors. The successful application of PCS to Y in DAC environments demonstrates its utility for future research on other pressure-induced high-$T_c$ superconductors.

A coupled-channel lattice study on the resonance-like structure $Z_c(3900)$

In this exploratory study, near-threshold scattering of $D$ and $\bar{D}^*$ meson is investigated using lattice QCD with $N_f=2+1+1$ twisted mass fermion configurations. The calculation is performed within the coupled-channel Lüscher's finite-size formalism. The study focuses on the channel with $I^G(J^{PC})=1^+(1^{+-})$ where the resonance-like structure $Z_c(3900)$ was discovered. We first identify the most relevant two channels of the problem and the lattice study is performed within the two-channel scattering model. Combined with a two-channel Ross-Shaw theory, scattering parameters are extracted from the energy levels by solving the generalized eigenvalue problem. Our results on the scattering length parameters suggest that, at the particular lattice parameters that we studied, the best fitted parameters do not correspond to a peak behavior in the elastic scattering cross section near the threshold. Furthermore, within the zero-range Ross-Shaw theory, the scenario of a narrow resonance close to the threshold is disfavored beyond $3σ$ level.

Evaluating topological charge density with symmetric multi-probing method

We evaluated the topological charge density of SU(3) gauge fields on lattice by calculating the trace of overlap Dirac matrix employing symmetric multi-probing(SMP) method with 3 modes. Since the topological charge $Q$ for a given lattice configuration must be an integer number, it's easy to estimate the systematic error (the deviation of $Q$ to nearest integer). The results showed high efficiency and accuracy in calculating the trace of the inverse of a large sparse matrix with locality by using SMP sources, compared with that using point sources. We also showed the correlation between the errors and probing scheme parameter $r_{\mathrm{min}}$ as well as lattice volume $N_{L}$ and lattice spacing $a$. It was found that the computing time of calculating the trace by employing SMP sources is less dependent on $N_{L}$ than that by using point sources. Therefore the SMP method is very suitable for calculations on large lattices.

Glueball spectrum from $N_f=2$ lattice QCD study on anisotropic lattices

The lowest-lying glueballs are investigated in lattice QCD using $N_f=2$ clover Wilson fermion on anisotropic lattices. We simulate at two different and relatively heavy quark masses, corresponding to physical pion mass of $m_π\sim 938$ MeV and $650$ MeV. The quark mass dependence of the glueball masses have not been investigated in the present study. Only the gluonic operators built from Wilson loops are utilized in calculating the corresponding correlation functions. In the tensor channel, we obtain the ground state mass to be 2.363(39) GeV and 2.384(67) GeV at $m_π\sim 938$ MeV and $650$ MeV, respectively. In the pseudoscalar channel, when using the gluonic operator whose continuum limit has the form of $ε_{ijk}TrB_iD_jB_k$, we obtain the ground state mass to be 2.573(55) GeV and 2.585(65) GeV at the two pion masses. These results are compatible with the corresponding results in the quenched approximation. In contrast, if we use the topological charge density as field operators for the pseudoscalar, the masses of the lowest state are much lighter (around 1GeV) and compatible with the expected masses of the flavor singlet $q\bar{q}$ meson. This indicates that the operator $ε_{ijk}TrB_iD_jB_k$ and the topological charge density couple rather differently to the glueball states and $q\bar{q}$ mesons. The observation of the light flavor singlet pseudoscalar meson can be viewed as the manifestation of effects of dynamical quarks. In the scalar channel, the ground state masses extracted from the correlation functions of gluonic operators are determined to be around 1.4-1.5 GeV, which is close to the ground state masses from the correlation functions of the quark bilinear operators. In all cases, the mixing between glueballs and conventional mesons remains to be further clarified in the future.

Localization of topological charge density near $T_c$ in quenched QCD with Wilson flow

We smear quenched lattice QCD ensembles with lattice volume $32^3\times 8$ by using Wilson flow. Six ensembles at temperature near the critical temperature $T_c$ corresponding to the critical inverse coupling $β_c=6.06173(49)$ are used to investigate the localization of topological charge density. If the effective smearing radius of Wilson flow is large enough, the density, size and peak of Harrington-Shepard (HS) caloron-like topological lumps of ensembles are stable when $β\leq 6.050$, but start to change significantly when $β\geq6.055$. The inverse participation ratio (IPR) of topological charge density shows similar results, it begins to increase when $β\geq 6.055$ and is stable when $β\leq 6.050$. The pseudoscalar glueball mass is extracted from the topological charge density correlator (TCDC) of ensembles at $T=1.19T_c,~\textrm{and }1.36T_c$, the masses are $1.915(98)\textrm{ GeV}$ and $1.829(123)\textrm{ GeV}$ respectively, they are consistent with results from conventional methods.

Investigating the topological structure of quenched lattice QCD with overlap fermions by using multi-probing approximation

The topological charge density and topological susceptibility are determined by multi-probing approximation using overlap fermions in quenched SU(3) gauge theory. Then we investigate the topological structure of the quenched QCD vacuum, and compare it with results from the all-scale topological density, the results are consistent. Random permuted topological charge density is used to check whether these structures represent underlying ordered properties. Pseudoscalar glueball mass is extracted from the two-point correlation function of the topological charge density. We study $3$ ensembles of different lattice spacing $a$ with the same lattice volume $16^{3}\times32$, the results are compatible with the results of all-scale topological charge density, and the topological structures revealed by multi-probing are much closer to all-scale topological charge density than that by eigenmode expansion.

A Lattice Study of $(\bar{D}_1 D^{*})^\pm$ Near-threshold Scattering

In this exploratory lattice study, low-energy near threshold scattering of the $(\bar{D}_1 D^{*})^\pm$ meson system is analyzed using lattice QCD with $N_f=2$ twisted mass fermion configurations. Both s-wave ($J^P=0^-$) and p-wave ($J^P=1^+$) channels are investigated. It is found that the interaction between the two charmed mesons is attractive near the threshold in both channels. This calculation provides some hints in the searching of resonances or bound states around the threshold of $(\bar{D}_1 D^{*})^\pm$ system.

Two Photon Decays of $η_c$ from Lattice QCD

We present an exploratory lattice study for the two-photon decay of $η_c$ using $N_f=2$ twisted mass lattice QCD gauge configurations generated by the European Twisted Mass Collaboration. Two different lattice spacings of $a=0.067$fm and $a=0.085$fm are used in the study, both of which are of physical size of 2$fm$. The decay widths are found to be $1.025(5)$KeV for the coarser lattice and $1.062(5)$KeV for the finer lattice respectively where the errors are purely statistical. A naive extrapolation towards the continuum limit yields $Γ\simeq 1.122(14)$KeV which is smaller than the previous quenched result and most of the current experimental results. Possible reasons are discussed.

Spectrum and Bethe-Salpeter amplitudes of $Ω$ baryons from lattice QCD

The $Ω$ baryons with $J^P=3/2^\pm, 1/2^\pm$ are studied on the lattice in the quenched approximation. Their mass levels are ordered as $M_{3/2^+}<M_{3/2^-}\approx M_{1/2^-}<M_{1/2^+}$, as is expected from the constituent quark model. The mass values are also close to those of the four $Ω$ states observed in experiments, respectively. We calculate the Bethe-Salpeter amplitudes of $Ω(3/2^+)$ and $Ω(1/2^+)$ and find there is a radial node for the $Ω(1/2^+)$ Bethe-Salpeter amplitude, which may imply that $Ω(1/2^+)$ is an orbital excitation of $Ω$ baryons as a member of the $(D,L_N^P)=(70,0_2^+)$ supermultiplet in the $SU(6)\bigotimes O(3)$ quark model description. Our results are helpful for identifying the quantum number of experimentally observed $Ω$ states.

Twist-3 Contributions in Semi-Inclusive DIS with Transversely Polarized Target

We study semi-inclusive DIS with a transversely polarized target in the approach of collinear factorization. The effects related with the transverse polarization are at twist-3. We derive the complete result of twist-3 contributions to the relevant hadronic tensor at leading order of $α_s$, and construct correspondingly experimental observables. Measuring these observables will help to extract the twist-2 transversity distribution, twist-3 distributions and twist-3 fragmentation functions of the produced unpolarized hadron. A detailed comparison with the approach of transverse-momentum-dependent factorization is made.

Phase transition in finite density and temperature lattice QCD

We investigate the behavior of the chiral condensate in lattice QCD at finite temperature and finite chemical potential. The study was done using two flavors of light quarks and with a series of $β$ and $ma$ at the lattice size $24\times12^{2}\times6$. The calculation was done in the Taylar expansion formalism. We are able to calculate the first and second order derivatives of $\langle\barψψ\rangle$ in both isoscalar and isovector channels. With the first derivatives being small, we find that the second derivatives are sizable close to the phase transition and the magnitude of $\barψψ$ decreases under the influence of finite chemical potential in both channels.

Low-energy Scattering of $(D^{*}\bar{D}^{*})^\pm$ System and the Resonance-like Structure $Z_c(4025)$

In this paper, low-energy scattering of the $(D^{*}\bar{D}^{*})^\pm$ meson system is studied within Lüscher's finite-size formalism using $N_{f}=2$ twisted mass gauge field configurations. With three different pion mass values, the $s$-wave threshold scattering parameters, namely the scattering length $a_0$ and the effective range $r_0$, are extracted in $J^P=1^+$ channel. Our results indicate that, in this particular channel, the interaction between the two vector charmed mesons is weakly repulsive in nature hence do not support the possibility of a shallow bound state for the two mesons, at least for the pion mass values being studied. This study provides some useful information on the nature of the newly discovered resonance-like structure $Z_c(4025)$ observed in various experiments.

Pressure tuning of superconductivity independent of disorder in Tl$_{2}$Ba$_{2}$CaCu$_{2}$O$_{8+δ}$

Varying the superconducting transition temperature over a large scale of a cuprate superconductor is a necessary step for identifying the unsettled mechanism of superconductivity. Chemical doping or element substitution has been proven to be effective but also brings about lattice disorder. Such disorder can completely destroy superconductivity even at a fixed doping level. Pressure has been thought to be the most clean method for tuning superconductivity. However, pressure-induced increase of disorder was recognized from recent experiments. By choosing a disordered Tl$_{2}$Ba$_{2}$CaCu$_{2}$O$_{8+δ}$ at the optimal doping, we perform single-crystal x-ray diffraction and magnetic susceptibility measurements at high pressures. The obtained structural data provides evidence for the robust feature for the disorder of this material in the pressure range studied. This feature ensures the pressure effects on superconductivity distinguishable from the disorder. The derived parabolic-like behavior of the transition temperature with pressure up to near 30 GPa, having a maximum around 7 GPa, offers a platform for testing any realistic theoretical models in a nearly constant disorder environment. Such a behavior can be understood when considering the carrier concentration and the pairing interaction strength as two pressure intrinsic variables.

Non-perturbative renormalization of overlap quark bilinears on 2+1-flavor domain wall fermion configurations

We present renormalization constants of overlap quark bilinear operators on 2+1-flavor domain wall fermion configurations. This setup is being used by the chiQCD collaboration in calculations of physical quantities such as strangeness in the nucleon and the strange and charm quark masses. The scale independent renormalization constant for the axial vector current is computed using the Ward Identity. The renormalization constants for scalar, pseudoscalar and vector current are calculated in the RI-MOM scheme. Results in the MS-bar scheme are also given. The step scaling function of quark masses in the RI-MOM scheme is computed as well. The analysis uses, in total, six different ensembles of three sea quarks each on two lattices with sizes 24^3x64 and 32^3x64 at spacings a=(1.73 GeV)^{-1} and (2.28 GeV)^{-1}, respectively.

Low-energy Scattering of $(D\bar{D}^{*})^\pm$ System And the Resonance-like Structure $Z_c(3900)$

In this exploratory lattice study, low-energy scattering of the $(D\bar{D}^{*})^\pm$ meson system is analyzed using lattice QCD with $N_f=2$ twisted mass fermion configurations with three pion mass values. The calculation is performed within single-channel Lüscher's finite-size formalism. The threshold scattering parameters, namely the scattering length $a_0$ and the effective range $r_0$, for the $s$-wave scattering in $J^P=1^+$ channel are extracted. For the cases in our study, the interaction between the two charmed mesons is weakly repulsive. Our lattice results therefore do not support the possibility of a shallow bound state for the two mesons for the pion mass values we studied. This calculation provides some useful information on the nature of the newly discovered resonance-like structure $Z_c(3900)$ by various experimental groups.

Glueballs in charmonia radiative decays

Scalar \cite{scalar_paper} and tensor \cite{tensor_paper} glueballs created in $J/ψ$ radiative decays are studied in quenched lattice QCD. Using two anisotropic lattices to approach the continuum limit, we compute the relevant form factors responsible for the decay rates for $J/ψ\rightarrowγG_{0^{++}}$ and $J/ψ\rightarrowγG_{2^{++}}$. Comparing with the existing experimental data, it is argued that $f_0(1710)$ is a favorable candidate for scalar glueball. The decay rate for $J/ψ\rightarrowγG_{2^{++}}$ is found to be quite substantial. A comprehensive search in the tensor channel on BESIII is therefore suggested.

Non-perturbative renormalization of overlap quark bilinears on domain wall fermion configurations

We present renormalization constants of overlap quark bilinear operators on 2+1-flavor domain wall fermion configurations. Both overlap and domain wall fermions have chiral symmetry on the lattice. The scale independent renormalization constant for the local axial vector current is computed using a Ward Identity. The renormalization constants for the scalar, pseudoscalar and vector current are calculated in the RI-MOM scheme. Results in the MS-bar scheme are obtained by using perturbative conversion ratios. The analysis uses in total six ensembles with lattice sizes 24^3x64 and 32^3x64.
