Reconstructing the whole 6D properties of the Sagittarius stream with N-body simulations

It is a challenge to reproduce the full 6D space-phase properties of Sagittarius (Sgr) dwarf galaxy and its Stream simultaneously. Using N-body simulations with a Milky Way mass of 5.2$\times10^{11}$ M$_{\odot}$ and a ``scaling down'' Sgr mass of 9.3$\times10^{8}$ M$_{\odot}$, from a qualitative point of view, we have been able to reproduce well all 3D spatial features of Sgr stream, including its core, leading and trailing arms, and their associated bifurcations, moreover, the overall trend of the reported 3D kinematics properties of the Sgr stream have also been reproduced without fine tuning. Furthermore, we also find that our model fails in reproducing the exact behaviours of the line-of-sight velocity and angular-energy distributions. It let us to suggest that significant further progress might be achievable after introducing a major component in the Sgr progenitor, which is the gas that dominates all Irregular dwarf galaxies in the Sgr mass range and can slow down the radial velocity of Sgr before its removal, if gas can not solve this problem then we will consider a non-spherical Milky Way halo with hot gas, LMC, etc. As the first step for us to towards the complete understanding of the Sgr system, this progress is also advancing our understanding of the bifurcations, the generation of which might be due to the MW shocks at each pericenter passage, and also be linked to the orientation and disk-shape in the initial conditions.

The Dark Matter Tidal Stripping History of the Sagittarius Core with N-body simulations

The infall of the Sagittarius (Sgr) Dwarf Spheroidal Galaxy in the Milky Way halo is an unique opportunity to understand how the different components of a dwarf galaxy could be tidally removed. In this work, we reconstruct the Sgr core morphology and kinematics on the basis of a model that has already successfully reproduced the Sgr stream. Here we use a very high resolution model that almost resolves individual stars in the Sgr core. It reproduces most of the observed morphology and kinematic properties, without specific fine-tuning. We also show that the dark matter may have been almost entirely stripped by Milky Way tides after two passages at pericenter. Finally the model predicts that the Sgr core will be fully disrupted within the next 2 Gyr.

Strong [OIII]λ5007 emission line compact galaxies in LAMOST DR9: Blueberries, Green Peas and Purple Grapes

Green Pea and Blueberry galaxies are well-known for their compact size, low mass, strong emission lines and analogs to high-z Lyα emitting galaxies. In this study, 1547 strong [OIII]λ5007 emission line compact galaxies with 1694 spectra are selected from LAMOST DR9 at the redshift range from 0.0 to 0.59. According to the redshift distribution, these samples can be separated into three groups: Blueberries, Green Peas and Purple Grapes. Optical [MgII]λ2800 line feature, BPT diagram, multi-wavelength SED fitting, MIR color, and MIR variability are deployed to identify 23 AGN candidates from these samples, which are excluded for the following SFR discussions. We perform the multi-wavelength SED fitting with GALEX UV and WISE MIR data. Color excess from Balmer decrement shows these strong [OIII]λ5007 emission line compact galaxies are not highly reddened. The stellar mass of the galaxies is obtained by fitting LAMOST calibrated spectra with the emission lines masked. We find that the SFR is increasing with the increase of redshift, while for the sources within the same redshift bin, the SFR increases with mass with a similar slope as the SFMS. These samples have a median metallicity of 12+log(O/H) of 8.10. The metallicity increases with mass, and all the sources are below the mass-metallicity relation. The direct-derived Te-based metallicity from the [OIII]λ4363 line agrees with the empirical N2-based empirical gas-phase metallicity. Moreover, these compact strong [OIII]λ5007 are mostly in a less dense environment.

The LAMOST Complete Spectroscopic Survey of Pointing Area (LaCoSSPAr) in the Southern Galactic Cap I. The Spectroscopic Redshift Catalog

We present a spectroscopic redshift catalog from the LAMOST Complete Spectroscopic Survey of Pointing Area (LaCoSSPAr) in the Southern Galactic Cap (SGC), which is designed to observe all sources (Galactic and extra-galactic) by using repeating observations with a limiting magnitude of $r=18.1~mag$ in two $20~deg^2$ fields. The project is mainly focusing on the completeness of LAMOST ExtraGAlactic Surveys (LEGAS) in the SGC, the deficiencies of source selection methods and the basic performance parameters of LAMOST telescope. In both fields, more than 95% of galaxies have been observed. A post-processing has been applied to LAMOST 1D spectrum to remove the majority of remaining sky background residuals. More than 10,000 spectra have been visually inspected to measure the redshift by using combinations of different emission/absorption features with uncertainty of $σ_{z}/(1+z)<0.001$. In total, there are 1528 redshifts (623 absorption and 905 emission line galaxies) in Field A and 1570 redshifts (569 absorption and 1001 emission line galaxies) in Field B have been measured. The results show that it is possible to derive redshift from low SNR galaxies with our post-processing and visual inspection. Our analysis also indicates that up to 1/4 of the input targets for a typical extra-galactic spectroscopic survey might be unreliable. The multi-wavelength data analysis shows that the majority of mid-infrared-detected absorption (91.3%) and emission line galaxies (93.3%) can be well separated by an empirical criterion of $W2-W3=2.4$. Meanwhile, a fainter sequence paralleled to the main population of galaxies has been witnessed both in $M_r$/$W2-W3$ and $M_*$/$W2-W3$ diagrams, which could be the population of luminous dwarf galaxies but contaminated by the edge-on/highly inclined galaxies ($\sim30\%$).

Quasars in the Galactic Anti-Center Area from the LAMOST DR3

We present a sample of quasars discovered in the area of Galactic Anti-Center (GAC) of $150^{\circ} \leq l \leq 210^{\circ}$ and $|b| \leq 30^{\circ}$, based on the LAMOST Data Release 3 (DR3). The sample contains 151 spectroscopically confirmed quasars. Among them 80 are newly discovered with the LAMOST. All those quasars are very bright, with $i$ magnitudes peaking around 17.5\, mag. All the newly quasars are discovered serendipitously, targeted originally with the LAMOST as stars of bluer colours, except for a few targeted as variable, young stellar object candidates. This bright quasar sample at low Galactic latitudes will help fill the gap in the spatial distribution of known quasars near the Galactic disk that are used to construct astrometric reference frame for the purpose of accurate proper motion measurements, for example, Gaia. They are also excellent tracers to probe the kinematics and chemistry of the interstellar medium of the Milky Way disk and halo via absorption line spectroscopy.

A Catalog of Luminous Infrared Galaxies in the IRAS Survey and the Second Data Release of the SDSS

We select the Luminous Infrared Galaxies by cross-correlating the Faint Source Catalogue (FSC) and Point Source Catalogue (PSC) of the IRAS Survey with the Second Data Release of the SDSS for studying their infrared and optical properties. The total number of our sample is 1267 for FSC and 427 for PSC by using 2$σ$ significance level cross-section. The "likelihood ratio" method is used to estimate the sample's reliability and for a more reliable subsample (908 for FSC and 356 for PSC) selection. Then a Catalog with both the infrared, optical and radio informations is presented and will be used in further works. Some statistical results show that the Luminous Infrared Galaxies are quite different from the Ultra-Luminous Infrared Galaxies. The AGN fractions of galaxies with different infrared luminosities and the radio to infrared correlations are consist with previous studies.
