LoViF 2026 The First Challenge on Weather Removal in Videos

This paper presents a review of the LoViF 2026 Challenge on Weather Removal in Videos. The challenge encourages the development of methods for restoring clean videos from inputs degraded by adverse weather conditions such as rain and snow, with an emphasis on achieving visually plausible and temporally consistent results while preserving scene structure and motion dynamics. To support this task, we introduce a new short-form WRV dataset tailored for video weather removal. It consists of 18 videos 1,216 synthesized frames paired with 1,216 real-world ground-truth frames at a resolution of 832 x 480, and is split into training, validation, and test sets with a ratio of 1:1:1. The goal of this challenge is to advance robust and realistic video restoration under real-world weather conditions, with evaluation protocols that jointly consider fidelity and perceptual quality. The challenge attracted 37 participants and received 5 valid final submissions with corresponding fact sheets, contributing to progress in weather removal for videos. The project is publicly available at https://www.codabench.org/competitions/13462/.

Nonmaximal symmetry breaking patterns in the supersymmetric $\widehat {\mathfrak{s} \mathfrak{u}}(8)_{k_U =1}$ theory

We study the nonmaximal symmetry breaking patterns of ${\mathfrak{s} \mathfrak{u}}(8) \to \mathfrak{g}_{531}/\mathfrak{g}_{351}$ allowed in a supersymmetric theory with the affine Lie algebra of $\widehat {\mathfrak{s} \mathfrak{u}}(8)_{k_U=1}$, which was recently proposed to explain the three-generational standard model quark/lepton mass hierarchies as well as the Cabbibo-Kobayashi-Maskawa mixing pattern. Three gauge couplings are found to achieve the unification below the Planck scales, according to the unification relations determined by the affine Lie algebra at level of $1$. We also prove that a separate nonmaximal symmetry breaking pattern of ${\mathfrak{s} \mathfrak{u}}(8) \to \mathfrak{g}_{621}$ is unrealistic due to the additional massless vectorlike quarks in the spectrum.

The dissection of expression quantitative trait locus hotspots

Studies of the genetic loci that contribute to variation in gene expression frequently identify loci with broad effect on gene expression: expression quantitative trait locus (eQTL) hotspots. We describe a set of exploratory graphical methods as well as a formal likelihood-based test for assessing whether a given hotspot is due to one or multiple polymorphisms. We first look at the pattern of effects of the locus on the expression traits that map to the locus: the direction of the effects, as well as the degree of dominance. A second technique is to focus on the individuals that exhibit no recombination event in the region, apply dimensionality reduction (such as with linear discriminant analysis) and compare the phenotype distribution in the non-recombinants to that in the recombinant individuals: If the recombinant individuals display a different expression pattern than the non-recombinants, this indicates the presence of multiple causal polymorphisms. In the formal likelihood-based test, we compare a two-locus model, with each expression trait affected by one or the other locus, to a single-locus model. We apply our methods to a large mouse intercross with gene expression microarray data on six tissues.
