Numerical analysis of a full discretization for stochastic Cahn--Hilliard equation driven by additive noise

In this article, we consider the stochastic Cahn--Hilliard equation driven by space-time white noise. We discretize this equation by using a spatial spectral Galerkin method and a temporal accelerated implicit Euler method. The optimal regularity properties and uniform moment bounds of the exact and numerical solutions are shown. Then we prove that the proposed numerical method is strongly convergent with the sharp convergence rate in a negative Sobolev space. By using an interpolation approach, we deduce the spatial optimal convergence rate and the temporal super-convergence rate of the proposed numerical method in strong convergence sense. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first result on the strong convergence rates of numerical methods for the stochastic Cahn--Hilliard equation driven by space-time white noise. This interpolation approach is also applied to the general noise and high dimension cases, and strong convergence rate results of the proposed scheme are given.

Wellposedness and regularity estimate for stochastic Cahn--Hilliard equation with unbounded noise diffusion

In this article, we consider the stochastic Cahn--Hilliard equation driven by multiplicative space-time white noise with diffusion coefficient of sublinear growth. By introducing the spectral Galerkin method, we first obtain the well-posedness of the approximated equation in finite dimension. Then with the help of the semigroup theory and the factorization method, the approximation processes is shown to possess many desirable properties. Further, we show that the approximation process is strongly convergent in certain Banach space via the interpolation inequality and variational approach. Finally, the global existence and regularity estimate of the unique solution process are proven by means of the strong convergence of the approximation process.

Absolute continuity and numerical approximation of stochastic Cahn--Hilliard equation with unbounded noise diffusion

In this article, we develop and analyze a full discretization, based on the spatial spectral Galerkin method and the temporal drift implicit Euler scheme, for the stochastic Cahn--Hilliard equation driven by multiplicative space-time white noise. By introducing an appropriate decomposition of the numerical approximation, we first use the factorization method to deduce the a priori estimate and regularity estimate of the proposed full discretization. With the help of the variation approach, we then obtain the sharp spatial and temporal convergence rate in negative Sobolev space in mean square sense. Furthermore, the sharp mean square convergence rates in both time and space are derived via the Sobolev interpolation inequality and semigroup theory. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first result on the convergence rate of temporally and fully discrete numerical methods for the stochastic Cahn--Hilliard equation driven by multiplicative space-time white noise.

Time Discretizations of Wasserstein-Hamiltonian Flows

We study discretizations of Hamiltonian systems on the probability density manifold equipped with the $L^2$-Wasserstein metric. Based on discrete optimal transport theory, several Hamiltonian systems on graph (lattice) with different weights are derived, which can be viewed as spatial discretizations to the original Hamiltonian systems. We prove the consistency and provide the approximate orders for those discretizations. By regularizing the system using Fisher information, we deduce an explicit lower bound for the density function, which guarantees that symplectic schemes can be used to discretize in time. Moreover, we show desirable long time behavior of these schemes, and demonstrate their performance on several numerical examples.

Convergence in Density of Splitting AVF Scheme for Stochastic Langevin Equation

In this article, we study the density function of the numerical solution of the splitting averaged vector field (AVF) scheme for the stochastic Langevin equation. To deal with the non-globally monotone coefficient in the considered equation, we first present the exponential integrability properties of the exact and numerical solutions. Then we show the existence and smoothness of the density function of the numerical solution by proving its uniform non-degeneracy in Malliavin sense. In order to analyze the approximate error between the density function of the exact solution and that of the numerical solution, we derive the optimal strong convergence rate in every Malliavin--Sobolev norm of the numerical scheme via Malliavin calculus. Combining the approximation result of Donsker's delta function and the smoothness of the density functions, we prove that the convergence rate in density coincides with the optimal strong convergence rate of the numerical scheme.

Strong and weak convergence rates of finite element method for stochastic partial differential equation with non-sided Lipschitz coefficient

Strong and weak approximation errors of a spatial finite element method are analyzed for stochastic partial differential equations(SPDEs) with one-sided Lipschitz coefficients, including the stochastic Allen--Cahn equation, driven by additive noise. In order to give the strong convergence rate of the finite element method, we present an appropriate decomposition and some a priori estimates of the discrete stochastic convolution. To the best of our knowledge, there has been no essentially sharp weak convergence rate of spatial approximation for parabolic SPDEs with non-globally Lipschitz coefficients. To investigate the weak error, we first regularize the original equation by the splitting technique and derive the regularity estimates of the corresponding regularized Kolmogorov equation. Meanwhile, we present the regularity estimate in Malliavin sense and the refined estimate of the finite element method. Combining the regularity estimates of regularized Kolmogorov equation with Malliavin integration by parts formula, the weak convergence rate is shown to be twice the strong convergence rate.

Weak convergence and invariant measure of a full discretization for non-globally Lipschitz parabolic SPDE

Approximating the invariant measure and the expectation of the functionals for parabolic stochastic partial differential equations (SPDEs) with non-globally Lipschitz coefficients is an active research area and is far from being well understood. In this article, we study such problem in terms of a full discretization based on the spectral Galerkin method and the temporal implicit Euler scheme. By deriving the a priori estimates and regularity estimates of the numerical solution via a variational approach and Malliavin calculus, we establish the sharp weak convergence rate of the full discretization. When the SPDE admits a unique $V$-uniformly ergodic invariant measure, we prove that the invariant measure can be approximated by the full discretization. The key ingredients lie on the time-independent weak convergence analysis and time-independent regularity estimates of the corresponding Kolmogorov equation. Finally, numerical experiments confirm the theoretical findings.

Exponential Integrators for Stochastic Maxwell's Equations Driven by Itô Noise

This article presents explicit exponential integrators for stochastic Maxwell's equations driven by both multiplicative and additive noises. By utilizing the regularity estimate of the mild solution, we first prove that the strong order of the numerical approximation is $\frac 12$ for general multiplicative noise. Combing a proper decomposition with the stochastic Fubini's theorem, the strong order of the proposed scheme is shown to be $1$ for additive noise. Moreover, for linear stochastic Maxwell's equation with additive noise, the proposed time integrator is shown to preserve exactly the symplectic structure, the evolution of the energy as well as the evolution of the divergence in the sense of expectation. Several numerical experiments are presented in order to verify our theoretical findings.

Analysis of A Splitting Scheme for Damped Stochastic Nonlinear Schrödinger Equation with Multiplicative Noise

In this paper, we investigate the damped stochastic nonlinear Schrödinger(NLS) equation with multiplicative noise and its splitting-based approximation. When the damped effect is large enough, we prove that the solutions of the damped stochastic NLS equation and the splitting scheme are exponential stable and possess some exponential integrability. These properties lead that the strong order of the scheme is $\frac 12$ and independent of time. Meanwhile, we analyze the regularity of the Kolmogorov equation with respect to the equation. As a consequence, the weak order of the scheme is shown to be twice the strong order and independent of time.

Strong convergence rates of semi-discrete splitting approximations for stochastic Allen--Cahn equation

This article analyzes an explicit temporal splitting numerical scheme for the stochastic Allen-Cahn equation driven by additive noise, in a bounded spatial domain with smooth boundary in dimension $d\le 3$. The splitting strategy is combined with an exponential Euler scheme of an auxiliary problem. When $d=1$ and the driving noise is a space-time white noise, we first show some a priori estimates of this splitting scheme. Using the monotonicity of the drift nonlinearity, we then prove that under very mild assumptions on the initial data, this scheme achieves the optimal strong convergence rate $\OO(δt^{\frac 14})$. When $d\le 3$ and the driving noise possesses some regularity in space, we study exponential integrability properties of the exact and numerical solutions. Finally, in dimension $d=1$, these properties are used to prove that the splitting scheme has a strong convergence rate $\OO(δt)$.

On Global Existence and Blow-up for Damped Stochastic Nonlinear Schrödinger Equation

In this paper, we consider the well-posedness of the weakly damped stochastic nonlinear Schrödinger(NLS) equation driven by multiplicative noise. First, we show the global existence of the unique solution for the damped stochastic NLS equation in critical case. Meanwhile, the exponential integrability of the solution is proved, which implies the continuous dependence on the initial data. Then, we analyze the effect of the damped term and noise on the blow-up phenomenon. By modifying the associated energy, momentum and variance identity, we deduce a sharp blow-up condition for damped stochastic NLS equation in supercritical case. Moreover, we show that when the damped effect is large enough, the damped effect can prevent the blow-up of the solution with high probability.

Strong Convergence Rate of Splitting Schemes for Stochastic Nonlinear Schrödinger Equations

We prove the optimal strong convergence rate of a fully discrete scheme, based on a splitting approach, for a stochastic nonlinear Schrödinger (NLS) equation. The main novelty of our method lies on the uniform a priori estimate and exponential integrability of a sequence of splitting processes which are used to approximate the solution of the stochastic NLS equation. We show that the splitting processes converge to the solution with strong order $1/2$. Then we use the Crank--Nicolson scheme to temporally discretize the splitting process and get the temporal splitting scheme which also possesses strong order $1/2$. To obtain a full discretization, we apply this splitting Crank--Nicolson scheme to the spatially discrete equation which is achieved through the spectral Galerkin approximation. Furthermore, we establish the convergence of this fully discrete scheme with optimal strong convergence rate $\mathcal{O}(N^{-2}+τ^\frac12)$, where $N$ denotes the dimension of the approximate space and $τ$ denotes the time step size. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first result about strong convergence rates of temporally numerical approximations and fully discrete schemes for stochastic NLS equations, or even for stochastic partial differential equations (SPDEs) with non-monotone coefficients. Numerical experiments verify our theoretical result.

Stochastic Symplectic and Multi-Symplectic Methods for Nonlinear Schrödinger Equation with White Noise Dispersion

We indicate that the nonlinear Schrödinger equation with white noise dispersion possesses stochastic symplectic and multi-symplectic structures. Based on these structures, we propose the stochastic symplectic and multi-symplectic methods, which preserve the continuous and discrete charge conservation laws, respectively. Moreover, we show that the proposed methods are convergent with temporal order one in probability. Numerical experiments are presented to verify our theoretical results.

Strong Convergence Rate of Finite Difference Approximations for Stochastic Cubic Schrödinger Equations

In this paper, we derive a strong convergence rate of spatial finite difference approximations for both focusing and defocusing stochastic cubic Schrödinger equations driven by a multiplicative $Q$-Wiener process. Beyond the uniform boundedness of moments for high order derivatives of the exact solution, the key requirement of our approach is the exponential integrability of both the exact and numerical solutions. By constructing and analyzing a Lyapunov functional and its discrete correspondence, we derive the uniform boundedness of moments for high order derivatives of the exact solution and the first order derivative of the numerical solution, which immediately yields the well-posedness of both the continuous and discrete problems. The latter exponential integrability is obtained through a variant of a criterion given by [Cox, Hutzenthaler and Jentzen, arXiv:1309.5595]. As a by-product of this exponential integrability, we prove that the exact and numerical solutions depend continuously on the initial data and obtain a large deviation-type result on the dependence of the noise with first order strong convergence rate.
