STA-VPT: SpatioTemporally Aligned Visual Prompt Tuning

Typical methods for visual prompt tuning follow the sequential modeling paradigm originating from NLP, learning a sequence of unordered parameterized tokens as visual prompts, which are then prefixed to the flattened image representation for model adaptation. While such a sequential prompting paradigm has exhibited great promise, it presents two potential limitations. First, the learned visual prompts, presented in an unordered sequential form, are unable to capture the underlying spatial relations in the input image which are crucial for effective image encoding. Second, all prompt tokens serve the same role by performing uniform prompting for all image tokens without distinction, lacking fine-grained prompting capability\---i.e., individualized prompting for different visual tokens to capture region-specific semantic patterns. In this work, we introduce the \mymodel model (\emph{STA-VPT}), a novel visual prompting paradigm, which learns a two-dimensional prompt token map for image prompting or a three-dimensional token volume for video prompting, ensuring spatial (or spatiotemporal) alignment with the input image token map (or video token volume). This alignment enables the visual prompts to preserve the spatial (or spatiotemporal) structure, thereby learning the underlying relations within the visual input. Furthermore, each prompt token serves as a specialized prompting expert and is designated to exclusively prompt for the spatially (or spatiotemporally) corresponding visual tokens. Consequently, our \emph{STA-VPT} is capable of performing individualized prompting for different spatiotemporal regions, potentially improving the prompting performance through fine-grained allocation of prompting capacity, in line with mixture of experts (MoE) principles.

FocalPolicy: Frequency-Optimized Chunking and Locally Anchored Flow Matching for Coherent Visuomotor Policy

Visuomotor policies aim to learn complex manipulation tasks from expert demonstrations. However, generating smooth and coherent trajectories remains challenging, as it requires balancing proximal precision with distal foresight. Existing approaches typically focus on optimizing intra-chunk action distributions, often neglecting the inter-chunk coherence. Consequently, inter-chunk discontinuities significantly impede the learning of coherent long-horizon actions. To overcome this limitation and achieve a synergetic balance between precision and foresight, we propose FocalPolicy, a foresight-aware visuomotor policy that combines Frequency-Optimized Chunking with Locally Anchored flow matching. We introduce a foresight composite objective that supervises time-domain alignment within the proximal actions while regularizing frequency-domain structure over multiple future action chunks to improve cross-chunk coherence. To efficiently learn complex action distributions, we design locally anchored sampling to enhance target signal propagation efficiency during consistency flow matching training. Extensive experiments demonstrate that FocalPolicy outperforms existing approaches and confirm the generalizability of our modules to other baselines. Project website: https://focalpolicy.github.io/

Physics-Guided Image Dehazing Diffusion

Due to the domain gap between real-world and synthetic hazy images, current data-driven dehazing algorithms trained on synthetic datasets perform well on synthetic data but struggle to generalize to real-world scenarios. To address this challenge, we propose \textbf{I}mage \textbf{D}ehazing \textbf{D}iffusion \textbf{M}odels (IDDM), a novel diffusion process that incorporates the atmospheric scattering model into noise diffusion. IDDM aims to use the gradual haze formation process to help the denoising Unet robustly learn the distribution of clear images from the conditional input hazy images. We design a specialized training strategy centered around IDDM. Diffusion models are leveraged to bridge the domain gap from synthetic to real-world, while the atmospheric scattering model provides physical guidance for haze formation. During the forward process, IDDM simultaneously introduces haze and noise into clear images, and then robustly separates them during the sampling process. By training with physics-guided information, IDDM shows the ability of domain generalization, and effectively restores the real-world hazy images despite being trained on synthetic datasets. Extensive experiments demonstrate the effectiveness of our method through both quantitative and qualitative comparisons with state-of-the-art approaches.

D$^2$ST-Adapter: Disentangled-and-Deformable Spatio-Temporal Adapter for Few-shot Action Recognition

Adapting pre-trained image models to video modality has proven to be an effective strategy for robust few-shot action recognition. In this work, we explore the potential of adapter tuning in image-to-video model adaptation and propose a novel video adapter tuning framework, called Disentangled-and-Deformable Spatio-Temporal Adapter (D$^2$ST-Adapter). It features a lightweight design, low adaptation overhead and powerful spatio-temporal feature adaptation capabilities. D$^2$ST-Adapter is structured with an internal dual-pathway architecture that enables built-in disentangled encoding of spatial and temporal features within the adapter, seamlessly integrating into the single-stream feature learning framework of pre-trained image models. In particular, we develop an efficient yet effective implementation of the D$^2$ST-Adapter, incorporating the specially devised anisotropic Deformable Spatio-Temporal Attention as its pivotal operation. This mechanism can be individually tailored for two pathways with anisotropic sampling densities along the spatial and temporal domains in 3D spatio-temporal space, enabling disentangled encoding of spatial and temporal features while maintaining a lightweight design. Extensive experiments by instantiating our method on both pre-trained ResNet and ViT demonstrate the superiority of our method over state-of-the-art methods. Our method is particularly well-suited to challenging scenarios where temporal dynamics are critical for action recognition. Code is available at https://github.com/qizhongtan/D2ST-Adapter.

GLAM: Global-Local Variation Awareness in Mamba-based World Model

Mimicking the real interaction trajectory in the inference of the world model has been shown to improve the sample efficiency of model-based reinforcement learning (MBRL) algorithms. Many methods directly use known state sequences for reasoning. However, this approach fails to enhance the quality of reasoning by capturing the subtle variation between states. Much like how humans infer trends in event development from this variation, in this work, we introduce Global-Local variation Awareness Mamba-based world model (GLAM) that improves reasoning quality by perceiving and predicting variation between states. GLAM comprises two Mambabased parallel reasoning modules, GMamba and LMamba, which focus on perceiving variation from global and local perspectives, respectively, during the reasoning process. GMamba focuses on identifying patterns of variation between states in the input sequence and leverages these patterns to enhance the prediction of future state variation. LMamba emphasizes reasoning about unknown information, such as rewards, termination signals, and visual representations, by perceiving variation in adjacent states. By integrating the strengths of the two modules, GLAM accounts for highervalue variation in environmental changes, providing the agent with more efficient imagination-based training. We demonstrate that our method outperforms existing methods in normalized human scores on the Atari 100k benchmark.

GAFusion: Adaptive Fusing LiDAR and Camera with Multiple Guidance for 3D Object Detection

Recent years have witnessed the remarkable progress of 3D multi-modality object detection methods based on the Bird's-Eye-View (BEV) perspective. However, most of them overlook the complementary interaction and guidance between LiDAR and camera. In this work, we propose a novel multi-modality 3D objection detection method, named GAFusion, with LiDAR-guided global interaction and adaptive fusion. Specifically, we introduce sparse depth guidance (SDG) and LiDAR occupancy guidance (LOG) to generate 3D features with sufficient depth information. In the following, LiDAR-guided adaptive fusion transformer (LGAFT) is developed to adaptively enhance the interaction of different modal BEV features from a global perspective. Meanwhile, additional downsampling with sparse height compression and multi-scale dual-path transformer (MSDPT) are designed to enlarge the receptive fields of different modal features. Finally, a temporal fusion module is introduced to aggregate features from previous frames. GAFusion achieves state-of-the-art 3D object detection results with 73.6$\%$ mAP and 74.9$\%$ NDS on the nuScenes test set.

Unbiased Faster R-CNN for Single-source Domain Generalized Object Detection

Single-source domain generalization (SDG) for object detection is a challenging yet essential task as the distribution bias of the unseen domain degrades the algorithm performance significantly. However, existing methods attempt to extract domain-invariant features, neglecting that the biased data leads the network to learn biased features that are non-causal and poorly generalizable. To this end, we propose an Unbiased Faster R-CNN (UFR) for generalizable feature learning. Specifically, we formulate SDG in object detection from a causal perspective and construct a Structural Causal Model (SCM) to analyze the data bias and feature bias in the task, which are caused by scene confounders and object attribute confounders. Based on the SCM, we design a Global-Local Transformation module for data augmentation, which effectively simulates domain diversity and mitigates the data bias. Additionally, we introduce a Causal Attention Learning module that incorporates a designed attention invariance loss to learn image-level features that are robust to scene confounders. Moreover, we develop a Causal Prototype Learning module with an explicit instance constraint and an implicit prototype constraint, which further alleviates the negative impact of object attribute confounders. Experimental results on five scenes demonstrate the prominent generalization ability of our method, with an improvement of 3.9% mAP on the Night-Clear scene.

EasyTrack: Efficient and Compact One-stream 3D Point Clouds Tracker

Most of 3D single object trackers (SOT) in point clouds follow the two-stream multi-stage 3D Siamese or motion tracking paradigms, which process the template and search area point clouds with two parallel branches, built on supervised point cloud backbones. In this work, beyond typical 3D Siamese or motion tracking, we propose a neat and compact one-stream transformer 3D SOT paradigm from the novel perspective, termed as \textbf{EasyTrack}, which consists of three special designs: 1) A 3D point clouds tracking feature pre-training module is developed to exploit the masked autoencoding for learning 3D point clouds tracking representations. 2) A unified 3D tracking feature learning and fusion network is proposed to simultaneously learns target-aware 3D features, and extensively captures mutual correlation through the flexible self-attention mechanism. 3) A target location network in the dense bird's eye view (BEV) feature space is constructed for target classification and regression. Moreover, we develop an enhanced version named EasyTrack++, which designs the center points interaction (CPI) strategy to reduce the ambiguous targets caused by the noise point cloud background information. The proposed EasyTrack and EasyTrack++ set a new state-of-the-art performance ($\textbf{18\%}$, $\textbf{40\%}$ and $\textbf{3\%}$ success gains) in KITTI, NuScenes, and Waymo while runing at \textbf{52.6fps} with few parameters (\textbf{1.3M}). Exploring Self- and Cross-Triplet Correlations for Human-Object Interaction Detection

Human-Object Interaction (HOI) detection plays a vital role in scene understanding, which aims to predict the HOI triplet in the form of . Existing methods mainly extract multi-modal features (e.g., appearance, object semantics, human pose) and then fuse them together to directly predict HOI triplets. However, most of these methods focus on seeking for self-triplet aggregation, but ignore the potential cross-triplet dependencies, resulting in ambiguity of action prediction. In this work, we propose to explore Self- and Cross-Triplet Correlations (SCTC) for HOI detection. Specifically, we regard each triplet proposal as a graph where Human, Object represent nodes and Action indicates edge, to aggregate self-triplet correlation. Also, we try to explore cross-triplet dependencies by jointly considering instance-level, semantic-level, and layout-level relations. Besides, we leverage the CLIP model to assist our SCTC obtain interaction-aware feature by knowledge distillation, which provides useful action clues for HOI detection. Extensive experiments on HICO-DET and V-COCO datasets verify the effectiveness of our proposed SCTC.

Robust 3D Tracking with Quality-Aware Shape Completion

3D single object tracking remains a challenging problem due to the sparsity and incompleteness of the point clouds. Existing algorithms attempt to address the challenges in two strategies. The first strategy is to learn dense geometric features based on the captured sparse point cloud. Nevertheless, it is quite a formidable task since the learned dense geometric features are with high uncertainty for depicting the shape of the target object. The other strategy is to aggregate the sparse geometric features of multiple templates to enrich the shape information, which is a routine solution in 2D tracking. However, aggregating the coarse shape representations can hardly yield a precise shape representation. Different from 2D pixels, 3D points of different frames can be directly fused by coordinate transform, i.e., shape completion. Considering that, we propose to construct a synthetic target representation composed of dense and complete point clouds depicting the target shape precisely by shape completion for robust 3D tracking. Specifically, we design a voxelized 3D tracking framework with shape completion, in which we propose a quality-aware shape completion mechanism to alleviate the adverse effect of noisy historical predictions. It enables us to effectively construct and leverage the synthetic target representation. Besides, we also develop a voxelized relation modeling module and box refinement module to improve tracking performance. Favorable performance against state-of-the-art algorithms on three benchmarks demonstrates the effectiveness and generalization ability of our method.

Activating the Discriminability of Novel Classes for Few-shot Segmentation

Despite the remarkable success of existing methods for few-shot segmentation, there remain two crucial challenges. First, the feature learning for novel classes is suppressed during the training on base classes in that the novel classes are always treated as background. Thus, the semantics of novel classes are not well learned. Second, most of existing methods fail to consider the underlying semantic gap between the support and the query resulting from the representative bias by the scarce support samples. To circumvent these two challenges, we propose to activate the discriminability of novel classes explicitly in both the feature encoding stage and the prediction stage for segmentation. In the feature encoding stage, we design the Semantic-Preserving Feature Learning module (SPFL) to first exploit and then retain the latent semantics contained in the whole input image, especially those in the background that belong to novel classes. In the prediction stage for segmentation, we learn an Self-Refined Online Foreground-Background classifier (SROFB), which is able to refine itself using the high-confidence pixels of query image to facilitate its adaptation to the query image and bridge the support-query semantic gap. Extensive experiments on PASCAL-5$^i$ and COCO-20$^i$ datasets demonstrates the advantages of these two novel designs both quantitatively and qualitatively.

Multi-Faceted Distillation of Base-Novel Commonality for Few-shot Object Detection

Most of existing methods for few-shot object detection follow the fine-tuning paradigm, which potentially assumes that the class-agnostic generalizable knowledge can be learned and transferred implicitly from base classes with abundant samples to novel classes with limited samples via such a two-stage training strategy. However, it is not necessarily true since the object detector can hardly distinguish between class-agnostic knowledge and class-specific knowledge automatically without explicit modeling. In this work we propose to learn three types of class-agnostic commonalities between base and novel classes explicitly: recognition-related semantic commonalities, localization-related semantic commonalities and distribution commonalities. We design a unified distillation framework based on a memory bank, which is able to perform distillation of all three types of commonalities jointly and efficiently. Extensive experiments demonstrate that our method can be readily integrated into most of existing fine-tuning based methods and consistently improve the performance by a large margin.

Few-Shot Object Detection by Knowledge Distillation Using Bag-of-Visual-Words Representations

While fine-tuning based methods for few-shot object detection have achieved remarkable progress, a crucial challenge that has not been addressed well is the potential class-specific overfitting on base classes and sample-specific overfitting on novel classes. In this work we design a novel knowledge distillation framework to guide the learning of the object detector and thereby restrain the overfitting in both the pre-training stage on base classes and fine-tuning stage on novel classes. To be specific, we first present a novel Position-Aware Bag-of-Visual-Words model for learning a representative bag of visual words (BoVW) from a limited size of image set, which is used to encode general images based on the similarities between the learned visual words and an image. Then we perform knowledge distillation based on the fact that an image should have consistent BoVW representations in two different feature spaces. To this end, we pre-learn a feature space independently from the object detection, and encode images using BoVW in this space. The obtained BoVW representation for an image can be considered as distilled knowledge to guide the learning of object detector: the extracted features by the object detector for the same image are expected to derive the consistent BoVW representations with the distilled knowledge. Extensive experiments validate the effectiveness of our method and demonstrate the superiority over other state-of-the-art methods.

Tracking-by-Counting: Using Network Flows on Crowd Density Maps for Tracking Multiple Targets

State-of-the-art multi-object tracking~(MOT) methods follow the tracking-by-detection paradigm, where object trajectories are obtained by associating per-frame outputs of object detectors. In crowded scenes, however, detectors often fail to obtain accurate detections due to heavy occlusions and high crowd density. In this paper, we propose a new MOT paradigm, tracking-by-counting, tailored for crowded scenes. Using crowd density maps, we jointly model detection, counting, and tracking of multiple targets as a network flow program, which simultaneously finds the global optimal detections and trajectories of multiple targets over the whole video. This is in contrast to prior MOT methods that either ignore the crowd density and thus are prone to errors in crowded scenes, or rely on a suboptimal two-step process using heuristic density-aware point-tracks for matching targets. Our approach yields promising results on public benchmarks of various domains including people tracking, cell tracking, and fish tracking.

RGBD Salient Object Detection via Deep Fusion

Numerous efforts have been made to design different low level saliency cues for the RGBD saliency detection, such as color or depth contrast features, background and color compactness priors. However, how these saliency cues interact with each other and how to incorporate these low level saliency cues effectively to generate a master saliency map remain a challenging problem. In this paper, we design a new convolutional neural network (CNN) to fuse different low level saliency cues into hierarchical features for automatically detecting salient objects in RGBD images. In contrast to the existing works that directly feed raw image pixels to the CNN, the proposed method takes advantage of the knowledge in traditional saliency detection by adopting various meaningful and well-designed saliency feature vectors as input. This can guide the training of CNN towards detecting salient object more effectively due to the reduced learning ambiguity. We then integrate a Laplacian propagation framework with the learned CNN to extract a spatially consistent saliency map by exploiting the intrinsic structure of the input image. Extensive quantitative and qualitative experimental evaluations on three datasets demonstrate that the proposed method consistently outperforms state-of-the-art methods.

Pixel-wise Orthogonal Decomposition for Color Illumination Invariant and Shadow-free Image

In this paper, we propose a novel, effective and fast method to obtain a color illumination invariant and shadow-free image from a single outdoor image. Different from state-of-the-art methods for shadow-free image that either need shadow detection or statistical learning, we set up a linear equation set for each pixel value vector based on physically-based shadow invariants, deduce a pixel-wise orthogonal decomposition for its solutions, and then get an illumination invariant vector for each pixel value vector on an image. The illumination invariant vector is the unique particular solution of the linear equation set, which is orthogonal to its free solutions. With this illumination invariant vector and Lab color space, we propose an algorithm to generate a shadow-free image which well preserves the texture and color information of the original image. A series of experiments on a diverse set of outdoor images and the comparisons with the state-of-the-art methods validate our method.
