On the existence of Auslander-Reiten $n$-exangles in $n$-exangulated categories

Let $\mathscr{C}$ be an $n$-exangulated category. In this note, we show that if $\mathscr{C}$ is locally finite, then $\mathscr{C}$ has Auslander-Reiten $n$-exangles. This unifies and extends results of Xiao-Zhu, Zhu-Zhuang, Zhou and Xie-Lu-Wang for triangulated, extriangulated, $(n+2)$-angulated and $n$-abelian categories, respectively.

Balanced pairs on triangulated categories

Let $\mathcal{C}$ be a triangulated category. We first introduce the notion of balanced pairs in $\mathcal{C}$, and then establish the bijective correspondence between balanced pairs and proper classes $ξ$ with enough $ξ$-projectives and enough $ξ$-injectives. Assume that $ξ:=ξ_{\mathcal{X}}=ξ^{\mathcal{Y}}$ is the proper class induced by a balanced pair $(\mathcal{X},\mathcal{Y})$. We prove that $(\mathcal{C}, \mathbb{E}_ξ, \mathfrak{s}_ξ)$ is an extriangulated category. Moreover, it is proved that $(\mathcal{C}, \mathbb{E}_ξ, \mathfrak{s}_ξ)$ is a triangulated category if and only if $\mathcal{X}=\mathcal{Y}=0$; and that $(\mathcal{C}, \mathbb{E}_ξ, \mathfrak{s}_ξ)$ is an exact category if and only if $\mathcal{X}=\mathcal{Y}=\mathcal{C}$. As an application, we produce a large variety of examples of extriangulated categories which are neither exact nor triangulated.

A new characterization of silting subcategories in the stable category of a Frobenius extriangulated category

We give a new characterization of silting subcategories in the stable category of a Frobenius extriangulated category, generalizing the result of Di et al. (J. Algebra 525 (2019) 42-63) about the Auslander-Reiten type correspondence for silting subcategories over triangulated categories. More specifically, for any Frobenius extriangulated category $\mathcal{C}$, we establish a bijective correspondence between silting subcategories of the stable category $\underline{\mathcal{C}}$ and certain covariantly finite subcategories of $\mathcal{C}$. As a consequence, a characterization of silting subcategories in the stable category of a Frobenius exact category is given. This result is applied to homotopy categories over abelian categories with enough projectives, derived categories over Grothendieck categories with enough projectives as well as to the stable category of Gorenstein projective modules over a ring $R$.

Higher Auslander's defect and classifying substructures of n-exangulated categories

Herschend-Liu-Nakaoka introduced the notion of $n$-exangulated categories. It is not only a higher dimensional analogue of extriangulated categories defined by Nakaoka-Palu, but also gives a simultaneous generalization of $n$-exact categories and $(n+2)$-angulated categories. In this article, we give an $n$-exangulated version of Auslander's defect and Auslander-Reiten duality formula. Moreover, we also give a classification of substructures (=closed subbifunctors) of a given skeletally small $n$-exangulated category by using the category of defects.

Gluing compactly generated t-structures over stalks of affine schemes

We show that compactly generated t-structures in the derived category of a commutative ring $R$ are in a bijection with certain families of compactly generated t-structures over the local rings $R_\mathfrak{m}$ where $\mathfrak{m}$ runs through the maximal ideals in the Zariski spectrum $\mathrm{Spec}(R)$. The families are precisely those satisfying a gluing condition for the associated sequence of Thomason subsets of $\mathrm{Spec}(R)$. As one application, we show that the compact generation of a homotopically smashing t-structure can be checked locally over localizations at maximal ideals. In combination with a result due to Balmer and Favi, we conclude that the $\otimes$-Telescope Conjecture for a quasi-coherent and quasi-separated scheme is a stalk-local property. Furthermore, we generalize the results of Trlifaj and Şahinkaya and establish an explicit bijection between cosilting objects of cofinite type over $R$ and compatible families of cosilting objects of cofinite type over all localizations $R_\mathfrak{m}$ at maximal primes.

Frobenius functors and Gorenstein projective precovers

We establish relations between Gorenstein projective precovers linked by Frobenius functors. This is motivated by an open problem that how to find general classes of rings for which modules have Gorenstein projective precovers. It is shown that if $F:\C\rightarrow\D$ is a separable Frobenius functor between abelian categories with enough projective objects, then every object in $\C$ has a Gorenstein projective precover provided that every object in $\D$ has a Gorenstein projective precover. This result is applied to separable Frobenius extensions and excellent extensions.

Two new classes of n-exangulated categories

Herschend-Liu-Nakaoka introduced the notion of $n$-exangulated categories. It is not only a higher dimensional analogue of extriangulated categories defined by Nakaoka-Palu, but also gives a simultaneous generalization of $n$-exact categories and $(n+2)$-angulated categories. Let $\mathcal C$ be an $n$-exangulated category and $\mathcal X$ a full subcategory of $\mathcal C$. If $\mathcal X$ satisfies $\mathcal X\subseteq\mathcal P\cap\mathcal I$, then we give a necessary and sufficient condition for the ideal quotient $\mathcal C/\mathcal X$ to be an $n$-exangulated category, where $\mathcal P$ (resp. $\mathcal I$) is the full subcategory of projective (resp. injective) objects in $\mathcal C$. In addition, we define the notion of $n$-proper class in $\mathcal C$. If $ξ$ is an $n$-proper class in $\mathcal C$, then we prove that $\mathcal C$ admits a new $n$-exangulated structure. These two ways give $n$-exangulated categories which are neither $n$-exact nor $(n+2)$-angulated in general.

Special precovering classes in comma categories

Let $T$ be a right exact functor from an abelian category $\mathscr{B}$ into another abelian category $\mathscr{A}$. Then there exists a functor ${\bf p}$ from the product category $\mathscr{A}\times\mathscr{B}$ to the comma category $(T\downarrow\mathscr{A})$. In this paper, we study the property of the extension closure of some classes of objects in $(T\downarrow\mathscr{A})$, the exactness of the functor ${\bf p}$ and the detail description of orthogonal classes of a given class ${\bf p}(\mathcal{X},\mathcal{Y})$ in $(T\downarrow\mathscr{A})$. Moreover, we characterize when special precovering classes in abelian categories $\mathscr{A}$ and $\mathscr{B}$ can induce special precovering classes in $(T\downarrow\mathscr{A})$. As an application, we prove that under suitable cases, the class of Gorenstein projective left $Λ$-modules over a triangular matrix ring $Λ=\left(\begin{smallmatrix}R & M \\ O & S \end{smallmatrix} \right)$ is special precovering if and only if both the classes of Gorenstein projective left $R$-modules and left $S$-modules are special precovering. Consequently, we produce a large variety of examples of rings such that the class of Gorenstein projective modules is special precovering over them.

2-recollements of singualrity categories and Gorenstein defect categories over triangular matrix algebras

Let $T=(A,M,0,B)$ be a triangular matrix algebra with its corner algebras $A$ and $B$ Artinian and $_AM_B$ an $A$-$B$-bimodule. The 2-recollement structures for singularity categories and Gorenstein defect categories over $T$ are studied. Under mild assumptions, we provide necessary and sufficient conditions for the existences of 2-recollements of singularity categories and Gorenstein defect categories over $T$ relative to those of $A$ and $B$. Parts of our results strengthen and unify the corresponding work in [27,28,34].

Tate-Vogel and relative cohomologies of complexes with respect to cotorsion pairs

We study Tate-Vogel and relative cohomologies of complexes by applying the model structure induced by a complete hereditary cotorsion pair ($\A$, $\B$) of modules. We show first that the class of complexes admitting a complete $\A$ resolution is exactly the class of complexes with finite Gorenstein $\A$ dimension. This lets us give general techniques for computing Tate-Vogel cohomoloies of complexes with finite Gorenstein $\A$ dimension. As a consequence, relative cohomology groups for complexes with finite Gorenstein $\A$ dimension are investigated. Finally, the relationships between Gorenstein $\A$ dimensions and $\A$ dimensions for complexes are given.

When the Schur functor induces a triangle-equivalence between Gorenstein defect categories

Let $R$ be an Artin algebra and $e$ an idempotent of $R$. Assume that ${\rm Tor}_i^{eRe}(Re,G)=0$ for any $G\in{\rm GProj} eRe$ and $i$ sufficiently large. Necessary and sufficient conditions are given for the Schur functor $S_e$ to induce a triangle-equivalence $\mathbb{D}_{def}(R)\simeq\mathbb{D}_{def}(eRe)$. Combine this with a result of Psaroudakis-Skartsaterhagen-Solberg [29], we provide necessary and sufficient conditions for the singular equivalence $\mathbb{D}_{sg}(R)\simeq\mathbb{D}_{sg}(eRe)$ to restrict to a triangle-equivalence $\underline{{\rm GProj} R}\simeq\underline{{\rm GProj} eRe}$. Applying these to the triangular matrix algebra $T=\left( \begin{array}{cc} A & M \quad 0 & B \end{array} \right)$, corresponding results between candidate categories of $T$ and $A$ (resp. $B$) are obtained. As a consequence, we infer Gorensteinness and CM-freeness of $T$ from those of $A$ (resp. $B$). Some concrete examples are given to indicate one can realise the Gorenstein defect category of a triangular matrix algebra as the singularity category of one of its corner algabras.

Lattice Theoretic Properties of Aprroximating Ideals

It is proved that a finite intersection of special preenveloping ideals in an exact category $({\mathcal A}; {\mathcal E})$ is a special preenveloping ideal. Dually, a finite intersection of special precovering ideals is a special precovering ideal. A counterexample of Happel and Unger shows that the analogous statement about special preenveloping subcategories does not hold in classical approximation theory. If the exact category has exact coproducts, resp., exact products, these results extend to intersections of infinite families of special peenveloping, resp., special precovering, ideals. These techniques yield the Bongartz-Eklof-Trlifaj Lemma: if $a \colon A \to B$ is a morphism in ${\mathcal A},$ then the ideal $a^{\perp}$ is special preenveloping. This is an ideal version of the Eklof-Trlifaj Lemma, but the proof is based on that of Bongartz' Lemma. The main consequence is that the ideal cotorsion pair generated by a small ideal is complete.

Avramov-Martsinkovsky type exact sequences for extriangulated categories

Let $(\mathcal{C},\mathbb{E},\mathfrak{s})$ be an extriangulated category with a proper class $ξ$ of $\mathbb{E}$-triangles. In this paper, we first introduce the $ξ$-Gorenstein cohomology in terms of $ξ$-$\mathcal{G}$projective resolutions and $ξ$-$\mathcal{G}$injective coresolutions, respectively, and then we get the balance of $ξ$-Gorenstein cohomology. Moreover, we study the interplay among $ξ$-cohomology, $ξ$-Gorenstein cohomology and $ξ$-complete cohomology, and obtain the Avramov-Martsinkovsky type exact sequences in this setting.

Gorenstein projective modules and recollements over triangular matrix rings

Let $T=\left( \begin{array}{cc} R & M 0 & S \end{array} \right) $ be a triangular matrix ring with $R$ and $S$ rings and $_RM_S$ an $R$-$S$-bimodule. We describe Gorenstein projective modules over $T$. In particular, we refine a result of Enochs, Cortés-Izurdiaga and Torrecillas [Gorenstein conditions over triangular matrix rings, J. Pure Appl. Algebra 218 (2014), no. 8, 1544-1554]. Also, we consider when the recollement of $\mathbb{D}^b(T{\text-} Mod)$ restricts to a recollement of its subcategory $\mathbb{D}^b(T{\text-} Mod)_{fgp}$ consisting of complexes with finite Gorenstein projective dimension. As applications, we obtain recollements of the stable category $\underline{T{\text-} GProj}$ and recollements of the Gorenstein defect category $\mathbb{D}_{def}(T{\text-} Mod)$.

Balance of complete cohomology in extriangulated categories

Let $(\mathcal{C},\mathbb{E},\mathfrak{s})$ be an extriangulated category with a proper class $ξ$ of $\mathbb{E}$-triangles. In this paper, we study the balance of complete cohomology in $(\mathcal{C},\mathbb{E},\mathfrak{s})$, which is motivated by a result of Nucinkis that complete cohomology of modules is not balanced in the way the absolute cohomology Ext is balanced. As an application, we give some criteria for identifying a triangulated catgory to be Gorenstein and an artin algebra to be $F$-Gorenstein.

Complete cohomology for extriangulated categories

Let $(\mathcal{C},\mathbb{E},\mathfrak{s})$ be an extriangulated category with a proper class $ξ$ of $\mathbb{E}$-triangles. In this paper, we study complete cohomology of objects in $(\mathcal{C},\mathbb{E},\mathfrak{s})$ by applying $ξ$-projective resolutions and $ξ$-injective coresolutions constructed in $(\mathcal{C},\mathbb{E},\mathfrak{s})$. Vanishing of complete cohomology detects objects with finite $ξ$-projective dimension and finite $ξ$-injective dimension. As a consequence, we obtain some criteria for the validity of the Wakamatsu Tilting Conjecture and give a necessary and sufficient condition for a virtually Gorenstein algebra to be Gorenstein. Moreover, we give a general technique for computing complete cohomology of objects with finite $ξ$-$\mathcal{G}$projective dimension. As an application, the relationships between $ξ$-projective dimensions and $ξ$-$\mathcal{G}$projective dimensions for objects in $(\mathcal{C},\mathbb{E},\mathfrak{s})$ are given.

Proper resolutions and Gorensteinness in extriangulated categories

Let $(\mathcal{C},\mathbb{E},\mathfrak{s})$ be an extriangulated category with a proper class $ξ$ of $\mathbb{E}$-triangles, and $\mathcal{W}$ an additive full subcategory of $\mathcal C$. We provide a method for constructing a proper $\mathcal{W}(ξ)$-resolution (respectively, coproper $\mathcal{W}(ξ)$-coresolution) of one term in an $\mathbb{E}$-triangle in $ξ$ from that of the other two terms. By using this way, we establish the stability of the Gorenstein category $\mathcal{GW}(ξ)$ in extriangulated categories. These results generalise their work by Huang and Yang-Wang, but the proof is not too far from their case. Finally, we give some applications about our main results.

Proper classes and Gorensteinness in extriangulated categories

Extriangulated categories were introduced by Nakaoka and Palu as a simultaneous generalization of exact categories and triangulated categories. A notion of proper class in an extriangulated category is defined in this paper. Let $\mathcal{C}$ be an extriangulated category and $ξ$ a proper class in $\mathcal{C}$. We prove that $\mathcal{C}$ admits a new extriangulated structure. This construction gives extriangulated categories which are neither exact categories nor triangulated categories. Moreover, we introduce and study $ξ$-Gorenstein projective objects in $\mathcal{C}$ and demonstrate that $ξ$-Gorenstein projective objects share some basic properties with Gorenstein projective objects in module categories or in triangulated categories. In particular, we refine a result of Asadollahi and Salarian [Gorenstein objects in triangulated categories, J. Algebra 281(2004), 264-286]. As an application, the $ξ$-$\mathcal{G}$projective model structures on extriangulated categories are obtained.
