Fabry-Pérot Metacavities with Single-Layered Dielectric Metamirrors

The Fabry-Pérot resonator is a cornerstone of photonics and wave physics, providing a universal mechanism for spectral confinement and resonant enhancement of wave-matter interactions. In this work, we establish an analytically tractable class of Fabry-Pérot metacavities in which the reflecting elements are realized by single-layer periodic arrays of circular dielectric cylinders acting as metamirrors. Both the reflection efficiency and reflection phase of such metamirrors are obtained in closed form and shown to be widely and independently tunable, encompassing ideal electric and magnetic mirror limits with unit reflectivity. Building on these results, we derive explicit analytical expressions that fully describe the optical responses of Fabry-Pérot cavities composed of two such parallel metamirrors. Our combined analytical and numerical investigations reveal that these metamirrors provide exceptional flexibility for tailoring Fabry-Pérot resonances across a broad spectral range, enabling precise control over resonance positions and quality factors. In particular, the framework naturally predicts the emergence of Fabry-Pérot bound states in the continuum with formally infinite Q-factors. These results establish dielectric-metamirror-based Fabry-Pérot cavities as a versatile and fundamentally transparent platform for engineering high-Q optical resonances.

Flexible Perovskite/Silicon Monolithic Tandem Solar Cells Approaching 30% Efficiency

Thanks to their excellent properties of low cost, lightweight, portability, and conformity, flexible perovskite-based tandem solar cells show great potentials for energy harvesting applications, with flexible perovskite/c-silicon tandem solar cells particularly promising for achieving high efficiency. However, performance of flexible perovskite/c-silicon monolithic tandem solar cells still greatly lags, due to challenges in simultaneously achieving both efficient photocarrier transport and reliable mitigation of residual stress. Here, we reveal the critical role of perovskite phase homogeneity, for achieving high-efficient and mechanical-stable flexible perovskite/c-silicon heterojunction monolithic tandem solar cells (PSTs) with textured surface. Through ensuring high phase homogeneity, which promotes charge transfer across all facets of the pyramid on the textured substrates and releases the residual stress at the perovskite/c-silicon interface, we demonstrate flexible PSTs with a bending curvature of 0.44 cm-1, and a certified power conversion efficiency of 29.88% (1.04 cm2 aperture area), surpassing all other types of flexible perovskite-based photovoltaic devices. Our results can lead to broad applications and commercialization of flexible perovskite/c-silicon tandem photovoltaics.

Strong Asymptotic Properties of Kernel Smoothing Estimation for NA Random Variables with Right Censoring

Most studies for negatively associated (NA) random variables consider the complete-data situation, which is actually a relatively ideal condition in practice. The paper relaxes this condition to the incomplete-data setting and considers kernel smoothing density and hazard function estimation in the presence of right censoring based on the Kaplan-Meier estimator. We establish the strong asymptotic properties for these two estimators to assess their asymptotic behavior and justify their practical use.

Abnormal Staebler-Wronski effect of amorphous silicon

Great achievements in last five years, such as record-efficient amorphous/crystalline silicon heterojunction (SHJ) solar cells and cutting-edge perovskite/SHJ tandem solar cells, place hydrogenated amorphous silicon (a-Si:H) at the forefront of emerging photovoltaics. Due to the extremely low doping efficiency of trivalent boron (B) in amorphous tetravalent silicon, light harvesting of aforementioned devices are limited by their fill factors (FF), which is a direct metric of the charge carrier transport. It is challenging but crucial to develop highly conductive doped a-Si:H for minimizing the FF losses. Here we report intensive light soaking can efficiently boost the dark conductance of B-doped a-Si:H "thin" films, which is an abnormal Staebler-Wronski effect. By implementing this abnormal effect to SHJ solar cells, we achieve a certificated power conversion efficiency (PCE) of 25.18% (26.05% on designated area) with FF of 85.42% on a 244.63-cm2 wafer. This PCE is one of the highest reported values for total-area "top/rear" contact silicon solar cells. The FF reaches 98.30 per cent of its Shockley-Queisser limit.

Proportional Mean Residual Life Model with Censored Survival Data under Case-cohort Design

Proportional mean residual life model is studied for analysing survival data from the case-cohort design. To simultaneously estimate the regression parameters and the baseline mean residual life function, weighted estimating equations based on an inverse selection probability are proposed. The resulting regression coefficients estimates are shown to be consistent and asymptotic normal with easily estimated variance-covariance. Simulation studies show that the proposed estimators perform very well. An application to a real dataset from the South Welsh nickel refiners study is also given to illustrate the methodology.

The strong representation for the nonparametric estimation of length-biased and right-censored data

In this article, we consider a useful product-limit estimator of distribution function proposed by Huang & Qin(2011) when the observations are subject to length-biased and right-censored data. The estimator retains the simple closed-form expression of the truncation product-limit estimator with some good properties. An almost sure representation for the estimator is obtained which can be used to derive many properties of functional statistics based on this product-limit estimator. The rate for the remainder in the representation is of order $O(n^{-3/4}(\log(n)^{3/4}) $ a.s.

Unidirectional superscattering by multilayered cavities of effective radial anisotropy

We achieve unidirectional forward superscattering by multilayered spherical cavities which are effectively radially anisotropic. It is demonstrated that, relying on the large effective anisotropy, the electric and magnetic dipoles can be tuned to spectrally overlap in such cavities, which satisfies the Kerker's condition of simultaneous backward scattering suppression and forward scattering enhancement. We show such scattering pattern shaping can be obtained in both all-dielectric and plasmonic multilayered cavities, and believe that the mechanism we have revealed provides extra freedom for scattering shaping, which may play a significant role in many scattering related applications and also in optoelectronic devices made up of intrinsically anisotropic two dimensional materials.

Elusive pure anapole excitation in homogenous spherical nanoparticles with radial anisotropy

For homogenous isotropic dielectric nanospheres with incident plane waves, Cartesian electric and toroidal dipoles can be tunned to cancel each other in terms of far-field scattering, leading to the effective anopole excitation. At the same time however, other multipoles such as magnetic dipoles with comparable scattered power are simultanesouly excited, mixing with the anopole and leading to a non-negligible total scattering cross section. Here we show that for homogenous dielectric nanospheres, radial anisotropy can be employed to significantly suppress the other multipole excitation, which at the same time does not compromise the property of complete scattering cancallation between Cartesian electric and toroidal dipoles. This enables an elusive pure anopole excitation within radially anisotropic dielectric nanospheres, which may shed new light to many scattering related fundamental researches and applications.

Efficient excitation and tuning of toroidal dipoles within individual homogenous nanoparticles

We revisit the fundamental topic of light scattering by single homogenous nanoparticles from the new perspective of excitation and manipulation of toroidal dipoles. It is revealed that besides within all-dielectric particles, toroidal dipoles can also be efficiently excited within homogenous metallic nanoparticles. Moreover, we show that those toroidal dipoles excited can be spectrally tuned through adjusting the radial anisotropy parameters of the materials, which paves the way for further more flexible manipulations of the toroidal responses within photonic systems. The study into toroidal multipole excitation and tuning within nanoparticles deepens our understanding of the seminal problem of light scattering, and may incubate many scattering related fundamental researches and applications.
