Joint Sparsity Pattern Learning Based Channel Estimation for Massive MIMO-OTFS Systems

We propose a channel estimation scheme based on joint sparsity pattern learning (JSPL) for massive multi-input multi-output (MIMO) orthogonal time-frequency-space (OTFS) modulation aided systems. By exploiting the potential joint sparsity of the delay-Doppler-angle (DDA) domain channel, the channel estimation problem is transformed into a sparse recovery problem. To solve it, we first apply the spike and slab prior model to iteratively estimate the support set of the channel matrix, and a higher-accuracy parameter update rule relying on the identified support set is introduced into the iteration. Then the specific values of the channel elements corresponding to the support set are estimated by the orthogonal matching pursuit (OMP) method. Both our simulation results and analysis demonstrate that the proposed JSPL channel estimation scheme achieves an improved performance over the representative state-of-the-art baseline schemes, despite its reduced pilot overhead.

360ORB-SLAM: A Visual SLAM System for Panoramic Images with Depth Completion Network

To enhance the performance and effect of AR/VR applications and visual assistance and inspection systems, visual simultaneous localization and mapping (vSLAM) is a fundamental task in computer vision and robotics. However, traditional vSLAM systems are limited by the camera's narrow field-of-view, resulting in challenges such as sparse feature distribution and lack of dense depth information. To overcome these limitations, this paper proposes a 360ORB-SLAM system for panoramic images that combines with a depth completion network. The system extracts feature points from the panoramic image, utilizes a panoramic triangulation module to generate sparse depth information, and employs a depth completion network to obtain a dense panoramic depth map. Experimental results on our novel panoramic dataset constructed based on Carla demonstrate that the proposed method achieves superior scale accuracy compared to existing monocular SLAM methods and effectively addresses the challenges of feature association and scale ambiguity. The integration of the depth completion network enhances system stability and mitigates the impact of dynamic elements on SLAM performance.

Physics-informed Graphical Neural Network for Power System State Estimation

State estimation is highly critical for accurately observing the dynamic behavior of the power grids and minimizing risks from cyber threats. However, existing state estimation methods encounter challenges in accurately capturing power system dynamics, primarily because of limitations in encoding the grid topology and sparse measurements. This paper proposes a physics-informed graphical learning state estimation method to address these limitations by leveraging both domain physical knowledge and a graph neural network (GNN). We employ a GNN architecture that can handle the graph-structured data of power systems more effectively than traditional data-driven methods. The physics-based knowledge is constructed from the branch current formulation, making the approach adaptable to both transmission and distribution systems. The validation results of three IEEE test systems show that the proposed method can achieve lower mean square error more than 20% than the conventional methods.

How to Extend 3D GBSM to Integrated Sensing and Communication Channel with Sharing Feature?

Integrated Sensing and Communication (ISAC) is a promising technology in 6G systems. The existing 3D Geometry-Based Stochastic Model (GBSM), as standardized for 5G systems, addresses solely communication channels and lacks consideration of the integration with sensing channel. Therefore, this letter extends 3D GBSM to support ISAC research, with a particular focus on capturing the sharing feature of both channels, including shared scatterers, clusters, paths, and similar propagation param-eters, which have been experimentally verified in the literature. The proposed approach can be summarized as follows: Firstly, an ISAC channel model is proposed, where shared and non-shared components are superimposed for both communication and sensing. Secondly, sensing channel is characterized as a cascade of TX-target, radar cross section, and target-RX, with the introduction of a novel parameter S for shared target extraction. Finally, an ISAC channel implementation framework is proposed, allowing flexible configuration of sharing feature and the joint generation of communication and sensing channels. The proposed ISAC channel model can be compatible with the 3GPP standards and offers promising support for ISAC technology evaluation.

SCVCNet: Sliding cross-vector convolution network for cross-task and inter-individual-set EEG-based cognitive workload recognition

This paper presents a generic approach for applying the cognitive workload recognizer by exploiting common electroencephalogram (EEG) patterns across different human-machine tasks and individual sets. We propose a neural network called SCVCNet, which eliminates task- and individual-set-related interferences in EEGs by analyzing finer-grained frequency structures in the power spectral densities. The SCVCNet utilizes a sliding cross-vector convolution (SCVC) operation, where paired input layers representing the theta and alpha power are employed. By extracting the weights from a kernel matrix's central row and column, we compute the weighted sum of the two vectors around a specified scalp location. Next, we introduce an inter-frequency-point feature integration module to fuse the SCVC feature maps. Finally, we combined the two modules with the output-channel pooling and classification layers to construct the model. To train the SCVCNet, we employ the regularized least-square method with ridge regression and the extreme learning machine theory. We validate its performance using three databases, each consisting of distinct tasks performed by independent participant groups. The average accuracy (0.6813 and 0.6229) and F1 score (0.6743 and 0.6076) achieved in two different validation paradigms show partially higher performance than the previous works. A Hybrid Optimization and Deep Learning Algorithm for Cyber-resilient DER Control

With the proliferation of distributed energy resources (DERs) in the distribution grid, it is a challenge to effectively control a large number of DERs resilient to the communication and security disruptions, as well as to provide the online grid services, such as voltage regulation and virtual power plant (VPP) dispatch. To this end, a hybrid feedback-based optimization algorithm along with deep learning forecasting technique is proposed to specifically address the cyber-related issues. The online decentralized feedback-based DER optimization control requires timely, accurate voltage measurement from the grid. However, in practice such information may not be received by the control center or even be corrupted. Therefore, the long short-term memory (LSTM) deep learning algorithm is employed to forecast delayed/missed/attacked messages with high accuracy. The IEEE 37-node feeder with high penetration of PV systems is used to validate the efficiency of the proposed hybrid algorithm. The results show that 1) the LSTM-forecasted lost voltage can effectively improve the performance of the DER control algorithm in the practical cyber-physical architecture; and 2) the LSTM forecasting strategy outperforms other strategies of using previous message and skipping dual parameter update.

DRL Enabled Coverage and Capacity Optimization in STAR-RIS Assisted Networks

Simultaneously transmitting and reflecting reconfigurable intelligent surfaces (STAR-RISs) is a promising passive device that contributes to a full-space coverage via transmitting and reflecting the incident signal simultaneously. As a new paradigm in wireless communications, how to analyze the coverage and capacity performance of STAR-RISs becomes essential but challenging. To solve the coverage and capacity optimization (CCO) problem in STAR-RIS assisted networks, a multi-objective proximal policy optimization (MO-PPO) algorithm is proposed to handle long-term benefits than conventional optimization algorithms. To strike a balance between each objective, the MO-PPO algorithm provides a set of optimal solutions to form a Pareto front (PF), where any solution on the PF is regarded as an optimal result. Moreover, in order to improve the performance of the MO-PPO algorithm, two update strategies, i.e., action-value-based update strategy (AVUS) and loss function-based update strategy (LFUS), are investigated. For the AVUS, the improved point is to integrate the action values of both coverage and capacity and then update the loss function. For the LFUS, the improved point is only to assign dynamic weights for both loss functions of coverage and capacity, while the weights are calculated by a min-norm solver at every update. The numerical results demonstrated that the investigated update strategies outperform the fixed weights MO optimization algorithms in different cases, which includes a different number of sample grids, the number of STAR-RISs, the number of elements in the STAR-RISs, and the size of STAR-RISs. Additionally, the STAR-RIS assisted networks achieve better performance than conventional wireless networks without STAR-RISs. Moreover, with the same bandwidth, millimeter wave is able to provide higher capacity than sub-6 GHz, but at a cost of smaller coverage.

DataAI-6G: A System Parameters Configurable Channel Dataset for AI-6G Research

With the acceleration of the commercialization of fifth generation (5G) mobile communication technology and the research for 6G communication systems, the communication system has the characteristics of high frequency, multi-band, high speed movement of users and large antenna array. These bring many difficulties to obtain accurate channel state information (CSI), which makes the performance of traditional communication methods be greatly restricted. Therefore, there has been a lot of interest in using artificial intelligence (AI) instead of traditional methods to improve performance. A common and accurate dataset is essential for the research of AI communication. However, the common datasets nowadays still lack some important features, such as mobile features, spatial non-stationary features etc. To address these issues, we give a dataset for future 6G communication. In this dataset, we address these issues with specific simulation methods and accompanying code processing.

Lightweight Machine Learning for Digital Cross-Link Interference Cancellation with RF Chain Characteristics in Flexible Duplex MIMO Systems

The flexible duplex (FD) technique, including dynamic time-division duplex (D-TDD) and dynamic frequency-division duplex (D-FDD), is regarded as a promising solution to achieving a more flexible uplink/downlink transmission in 5G-Advanced or 6G mobile communication systems. However, it may introduce serious cross-link interference (CLI). For better mitigating the impact of CLI, we first present a more realistic base station (BS)-to-BS channel model incorporating the radio frequency (RF) chain characteristics, which exhibit a hardware-dependent nonlinear property, and hence the accuracy of conventional channel modelling is inadequate for CLI cancellation. Then, we propose a channel parameter estimation based polynomial CLI canceller and two machine learning (ML) based CLI cancellers that use the lightweight feedforward neural network (FNN). Our simulation results and analysis show that the ML based CLI cancellers achieve notable performance improvement and dramatic reduction of computational complexity, in comparison with the polynomial CLI canceller.

Deep Learning Based Channel Covariance Matrix Estimation with User Location and Scene Images

Channel covariance matrix (CCM) is one critical parameter for designing the communications systems. In this paper, a novel framework of the deep learning (DL) based CCM estimation is proposed that exploits the perception of the transmission environment without any channel sample or the pilot signals. Specifically, as CCM is affected by the user's movement, we design a deep neural network (DNN) to predict CCM from user location and user speed, and the corresponding estimation method is named as ULCCME. A location denoising method is further developed to reduce the positioning error and improve the robustness of ULCCME. For cases when user location information is not available, we propose an interesting way that uses the environmental 3D images to predict the CCM, and the corresponding estimation method is named as SICCME. Simulation results show that both the proposed methods are effective and will benefit the subsequent channel estimation.

High-Performance Low-Complexity Hierarchical Frequency Synchronization for Distributed Massive MIMO-OFDMA Systems

We propose a high-performance yet low-complexity hierarchical frequency synchronization scheme for orthogonal frequency-division multiple-access (OFDMA) aided distributed massive multi-input multi-output (MIMO) systems, where multi-ple carrier frequency offsets (CFOs) have to be estimated in the uplink. To solve this multi-CFO estimation problem efficiently, we classify the active antenna units (AAUs) as the master and the slaves. Then, we split the scheme into two stages. During the first stage the distributed slave AAUs are synchronized with the master AAU, while the user equipment (UE) is synchronized with the closest slave AAU during the second stage. The mean square error (MSE) performance of our scheme is better than that of the representative state-of-the-art baseline schemes, while its computational complexity is substantially lower.

How to Extend 3D GBSM to RIS Cascade Channel with Non-ideal Phase Modulation?

Reconfigurable intelligent surface (RIS) is envisioned as a promising technology for next-generation wireless communications. Its deployment introduces a RIS cascade link between the transmitter (Tx) and receiver (Rx), which makes its channel model significantly different from the Tx-Rx direct link. In this letter, a RIS cascade channel modeling method based on a 3D geometry-based stochastic model (GBSM) is proposed. The model follows a 3GPP standardized modeling framework and extends the traditional Tx-Rx channel to Tx-RIS-Rx cascade channel. In the modeling process, we consider the non-ideal phase modulation of the RIS element, so as to accurately characterize the dependence of its phase modulation on the incoming wave angle. The differences between the proposed cascade channel model and the channel model with ideal phase modulation are investigated. The simulation results show that the proposed model can better reflect the dependence of RIS on angle and polarization.

Channel Sparsity Variation and Model-Based Analysis on 6, 26, and 132 GHz Measurements

In this paper, the level of sparsity is examined at 6, 26, and 132 GHz carrier frequencies by conducting channel measurements in an indoor office environment. By using the Gini index (value between 0 and 1) as a metric for characterizing sparsity, we show that increasing carrier frequency leads to increased levels of sparsity. The measured channel impulse responses are used to derive a Third-Generation Partnership Project (3GPP)-style propagation model, used to calculate the Gini index for the comparison of the channel sparsity between the measurement and simulation based on the 3GPP model. Our results show that the mean value of the Gini index in measurement is over twice the value in simulation, implying that the 3GPP channel model does not capture the effects of sparsity in the delay domain as frequency increases. In addition, a new intra-cluster power allocation model based on measurements is proposed to characterize the effects of sparsity in the delay domain of the 3GPP channel model. The accuracy of the proposed model is analyzed using theoretical derivations and simulations. Using the derived intra-cluster power allocation model, the mean value of the Gini index is 0.97, while the spread of variability is restricted to 0.01, demonstrating that the proposed model is suitable for 3GPP-type channels. To our best knowledge, this paper is the first to perform measurements and analysis at three different frequencies for the evaluation of channel sparsity in the same environment.

Capacity Analysis of Holographic MIMO Channels with Practical Constraints

Holographic Multiple-Input and Multiple-Output (MIMO) is envisioned as a promising technology to realize unprecedented spectral efficiency by integrating a large number of antennas into a compact space. Most research on holographic MIMO is based on isotropic scattering environments, and the antenna gain is assumed to be unlimited by deployment space. However, the channel might not satisfy isotropic scattering because of generalized angle distributions, and the antenna gain is limited by the array aperture in reality. In this letter, we aim to analyze the holographic MIMO channel capacity under practical angle distribution and array aperture constraints. First, we calculate the spectral density for generalized angle distributions by introducing a wavenumber domain-based method. And then, the capacity under generalized angle distributions is analyzed and two different aperture schemes are considered. Finally, numerical results show that the capacity is obviously affected by angle distribution at high signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) but hardly affected at low SNR, and the capacity will not increase infinitely with antenna density due to the array aperture constraint.

Mean Li-Yorke chaos along any infinite sequence for infinite-dimensional random dynamical systems

In this paper, we study the mean Li-Yorke chaotic phenomenon along any infinite positive integer sequence for infinite-dimensional random dynamical systems. To be precise, we prove that if an injective continuous infinite-dimensional random dynamical system $(X,ϕ)$ over an invertible ergodic Polish system $(Ω,\mathcal{F},\mathbb{P},θ)$ admits a $ϕ$-invariant random compact subset $K$ with $h_{top}(K,ϕ)>0$, then given a positive integer sequence $\mathbf{a}=\{a_i\}_{i\in\mathbb{N}}$ with $\lim_{i\to+\infty}a_i=+\infty$, for $\mathbb{P}$-a.s. $ω\inΩ$ there exists an uncountable subset $S(ω)\subset K(ω)$ and $ε(ω)>0$ such that for any distinct points $x_1$, $x_2\in S(ω)$ with following properties \begin{align*} \liminf_{N\to+\infty}\frac{1}{N}\sum_{i=1}^{N} d\big(ϕ(a_i, ω)x_1, ϕ(a_i, ω)x_2\big)=0,\quad\limsup_{N\to+\infty}\frac{1}{N}\sum_{i=1}^{N} d\big(ϕ(a_i, ω)x_1, ϕ(a_i, ω)x_2\big)>ε(ω), \end{align*} where $d$ is a compatible complete metric on $X$.
