A 24-Channel Ultra-Low-Noise Preamplifier for dN/dx Measurements with Drift Tube Detectors

Cluster counting dN/dx is a promising method to enhance particle identification for gaseous detectors, especially in next-generation collider experiments like the FCC-ee, where good pion-kaon separation over a broad momentum range is essential. However, its implementation in large-scale systems has been limited by the challenging requirements for high-resolution signal amplification and readout. This paper presents a 24-channel ultra-low-noise preamplifier board designed for drift tube detectors to enable dN/dx measurements. The three-stage amplification topology employs SiGe transistors and integrates dedicated noise-minimization techniques, achieving a charge gain of 21.11 mV/fC from 0.3 fC to 50 fC, a bandwidth of 542 MHz, and a voltage gain of 47.8 dB. The measured voltage noise density is 0.35 nV/sqrt(Hz), surpassing most of the state-of-the-art preamplifiers for gaseous and silicon detectors. Validation tests conducted on the sMDT chambers at the CERN Proton Synchrotron test beam facility demonstrate that the proposed design meets the stringent preamplifier requirements for implementing the dN/dx method in drift-tube detector systems, achieving an equivalent noise charge of 0.14 fC and a signal-to-noise ratio of 73 when operated with a He:iC4H10 (90:10) gas mixture. The design also shows promise for broader application in other gaseous or semiconductor detectors.

Performance Evaluation of Straw Tubes with Muon Beams at CERN

We present results from two test beam campaigns that investigate the performance of straw tube detectors as potential candidates for an FCC-ee straw tracker. These studies were carried out at CERN using 150 GeV muon beams. Dedicated algorithms were developed to determine both single tube spatial resolution for the primary coordinate in the $r-ϕ$ plane and spatial resolution for the secondary coordinate along the tube direction within a straw chamber. Detection efficiency was also evaluated as a function of the extrapolated hit position for each tube. Both datasets showed consistent results for spatial resolutions and efficiency. Our findings will help establish benchmark performance metrics and provide valuable insight for future design, optimization, and construction of straw chambers for high-precision tracking applications.

Studies of Cherenkov Photon Production in PbF$_2$ Crystals using Proton Beams at Fermilab

Future lepton colliders such as the FCC-ee, CEPC, ILC, or a muon collider will collect large data samples that allow precision physics studies with unprecedented accuracy, especially when the data is collected by innovative state-of-the-art detectors. An electromagnetic calorimeter based on scintillating crystals, designed to separately record Cherenkov and scintillation light, can achieve precision measurements of electrons and photons without sacrificing jet energy resolution, given adequate light collection efficiency and separation. This paper presents initial measurements from a program aimed at developing such a calorimeter system for future colliders. We focus on using PbF2 crystals to enhance the understanding of Cherenkov light collection, marking the first step in this endeavor.

Precision Higgs Physics at CEPC

The discovery of the Higgs boson with its mass around 125 GeV by the ATLAS and CMS Collaborations marked the beginning of a new era in high energy physics. The Higgs boson will be the subject of extensive studies of the ongoing LHC program. At the same time, lepton collider based Higgs factories have been proposed as a possible next step beyond the LHC, with its main goal to precisely measure the properties of the Higgs boson and probe potential new physics associated with the Higgs boson. The Circular Electron Positron Collider~(CEPC) is one of such proposed Higgs factories. The CEPC is an $e^+e^-$ circular collider proposed by and to be hosted in China. Located in a tunnel of approximately 100~km in circumference, it will operate at a center-of-mass energy of 240~GeV as the Higgs factory. In this paper, we present the first estimates on the precision of the Higgs boson property measurements achievable at the CEPC and discuss implications of these measurements.

The Higgs Portal and Cosmology

Higgs portal interactions provide a simple mechanism for addressing two open problems in cosmology: dark matter and the baryon asymmetry. In the latter instance, Higgs portal interactions may contain the ingredients for a strong first order electroweak phase transition as well as new CP-violating interactions as needed for electroweak baryogenesis. These interactions may also allow for a viable dark matter candidate. We survey the opportunities for probing the Higgs portal as it relates to these questions in cosmology at the LHC and possible future colliders.

Higgs Searches at the Fermilab Tevatron ppbar Collider

Searching for and potential discovery of Higgs boson(s) both within and beyond the standard model is perhaps the most visible physics goal of the current Fermilab Tevatron program. In this proceeding, recent results from both the CDF and DØexperiments based on analyses of datasets with integrated luminosities between 1.7 and 3.0 fb$^{-1}$ are summarized. The combined Tevatron cross section upper limits on the production of a standard model Higgs boson are fast approaching the expected standard model values for a wide mass range. Particularly, the Tevatron has now excluded a standard model Higgs boson with a mass of 170 GeV at 95% C.L.

Low-Scale and Gauge-Mediated Supersymmetry Breaking at the Fermilab Tevatron Run II

The prospects for discovering and studying signals of low-scale supersymmetry breaking models at the Tevatron Run II and beyond are explored. These models include gauge-mediated supersymmetry breaking as the most compelling and concrete realization, but more generally are distinguished by the presence of a nearly massless Goldstino as the lightest supersymmetric particle. The next-lightest supersymmetric particle(s) (NLSP) decays to its partner and the Goldstino. Depending on the supersymmetry breaking scale, these decays can occur promptly or on a scale comparable to or larger than the size of a detector. A systematic analysis based on a classification in terms of the identity of the NLSP and its decay length is presented. The various scenarios are discussed in terms of signatures and possible event selection criteria. The Run II and beyond discovery and exclusion reaches, including the effects of background, are detailed for the most compelling cases. In addition to standard event selection criteria based on missing energy and photons, leptons, jets, taus, tagged b-jets, or reconstructed Z-bosons, more exotic signals of metastable NLSPs such as displaced photons, large negative impact parameter tracks, kink tracks, both opposite and same-sign highly ionizing tracks, time of flight measurements, charge-changing tracks, charge-exchange tracks, and same-sign di-top events are investigated. The interesting possibility of observing a Higgs boson signal in events that are efficiently "tagged" by the unique signatures of low-scale supersymmetry breaking is also considered.

Sensitivity to Gauge-Mediated Supersymmetry Breaking Models of the Fermilab Upgraded Tevatron Collider

This paper discusses supersymmetry discovery potential of the upgraded DØexperiment at the Tevatron $p\bar{p}$ collider. Six final states with large transverse energy (momentum) leptons or photons (with or without large transverse momentum imbalances) are studied. These final states are expected to have small backgrounds and are thereby ideal for new physics searches. Implications of the analyses of these final states on Gauge Mediated Supersymmetry Breaking models are discussed for integrated luminosities of 2 and 30 1/fb. This study demonstrates that a large class of supersymmetry models can be probed at the upgraded Tevatron.

New New-Phenomena Results from Dzero

We have searched for diphoton events (\ggmet) with large missing transverse momentum, $γ\rlap{\kern0.25em/}E_T$ events (\gmetjj) with two or more jets, and diphoton events ($γγ$) with high transverse energies in $p\bar p$ collisions at $\sqrt{s} = 1.8$ TeV using approximately 100~pb$^{-1}$ of data collected with the DØdetector at the Fermilab Tevatron in 1992--1996. No excess of events beyond the expected backgrounds is observed. The null results are interpreted in supersymmetric models with a dominant $\tildeχ^0_2\toγ\tildeχ^0_1$ decay and in terms of Dirac pointlike monopole production.
