Evaluation of Some Sums Involving Powers of Harmonic Numbers

In this note, we extend the definition of multiple harmonic sums and apply their stuffle relations to obtain explicit evaluations of the sums $R_n(p,t)=\sum\nolimits_{m=0}^n m^p H_m^t$, where $H_m$ are harmonic numbers. When $t\le 4$ these sums were first studied by Spieß around 1990 and, more recently, by Jin and Sun. Our key step first is to find an explicit formula of a special type of the extended multiple harmonic sums. This also enables us to provide a general structural result of the sums $R_n(p,t)$ for all $t\ge 0$.

Explicit Relations between Kaneko--Yamamoto Type Multiple Zeta Values and Related Variants

In this paper we first establish several integral identities. These integrals are of the form \[\int_0^1 x^{an+b} f(x)\,dx\quad (a\in\{1,2\},\ b\in\{-1,-2\})\] where $f(x)$ is a single-variable multiple polylogarithm function or $r$-variable multiple polylogarithm function or Kaneko--Tsumura A-function (this is a single-variable multiple polylogarithm function of level two). We find that these integrals can be expressed in terms of multiple zeta (star) values and their related variants (multiple $t$-values, multiple $T$-values, multiple $S$-values etc.), and multiple harmonic (star) sums and their related variants (multiple $T$-harmonic sums, multiple $S$-harmonic sums etc.). Using these integral identities, we prove many explicit evaluations of Kaneko--Yamamoto multiple zeta values and their related variants. Further, we derive some relations involving multiple zeta (star) values and their related variants.

A Family of Supercongruences Involving Multiple Harmonic Sums

In recent years, the congruence $$ \sum_{\substack{i+j+k=p\\ i,j,k>0}} \frac1{ijk} \equiv -2 B_{p-3} \pmod{p}, $$ first discovered by the last author have been generalized by either increasing the number of indices and considering the corresponding supercongruences, or by considering the alternating version of multiple harmonic sums. In this paper, we prove a family of similar supercongruences modulo prime powers $p^r$ with the indexes summing up to $mp^r$ where $m$ is coprime to $p$, where all the indexes are also coprime to $p$.

Alternating Multiple $T$-Values: Weighted Sums, Duality, and Dimension Conjecture

In this paper, we define some weighted sums of the alternating multiple $T$-values (AMTVs), and study several duality formulas for them by using the tools developed in our previous papers. Then we introduce the alternating version of the convoluted $T$-values and Kaneko-Tsumura $ψ$-function, which are proved to be closely related to the AMTVs. At the end of the paper, we study the $\Q$-vector space generated by the AMTVs of any fixed weight $w$ and provide some evidence for the conjecture that their dimensions $\{d_w\}_{w\ge 1}$ form the tribonacci sequence 1, 2, 4, 7, 13, ....

Variants of Multiple Zeta Values with Even and Odd Summation Indices

In this paper, we define and study a variant of multiple zeta values of level 2 (which is called multiple mixed values or multiple $M$-values, MMVs for short), which forms a subspace of the space of alternating multiple zeta values. This variant includes both Hoffman's multiple $t$-values and Kaneko-Tsumura's multiple $T$-values as special cases. We set up the algebra framework for the double shuffle relations (DBSFs) of the MMVs, and exhibits nice properties such as duality, integral shuffle relation, series stuffle relation, etc., similar to ordinary multiple zeta values. Moreover, we study several $T$-variants of Kaneko-Yamamoto type multiple zeta values by establishing some explicit relations between these $T$-variants and Kaneko-Tsumura $ψ$-values. Furthermore, we prove that all Kaneko-Tsumura $ψ$-values can be expressed in terms of Kaneko-Tsumura multiple $T$-values by using multiple associated integrals, and find some duality formulas for Kaneko-Tsumura $ψ$-values. We also discuss the explicit evaluations for a kind of MMVs of depth two and three by using the method of contour integral and residue theorem. Finally, we investigate the dimensions of a few interesting subspaces of MMVs for small weights.

Some Families of Super Congruences Involving Alternating Multiple Harmonic Sums

Let $p$ be a prime. In this short note we study some families of super congruences involving the following alternating sums \begin{equation*} \sum_{\substack{j_1+j_2+\cdots+j_n=2 p^r p\nmid j_1 j_2 \cdots j_n}} \frac{(-1)^{j_1+\cdots+j_b}}{j_1\cdots j_n} \pmod{p^r}, \end{equation*} which extend similar statements proved by Shen and Cai who treated the cases when $n=4,5$.

Super Congruences Involving Multiple Harmonic Sums and Bernoulli Numbers

Let $m$, $r$ and $n$ be positive integers. We denote by ${\bf k}\vdash n$ any tuple of odd positive integers ${\bf k}=(k_1,\dots,k_t)$ such that $k_1+\dots+k_t=n$ and $k_j\ge 3$ for all $j$. In this paper we prove that for every sufficiently large prime $p$ $$ \sum_{\substack{l_1+l_2+\cdots+l_n=mp^r p\nmid l_1 l_2 \cdots l_n }} \frac1{l_1l_2\cdots l_n} \equiv p^{r-1} \sum_{{\bf k}\vdash n} C_{m,{\bf k}} B_{p-{\bf k}} \pmod{p^r} $$ where $B_{p-{\bf k}}=B_{p-k_1}B_{p-k_2}\cdots B_{p-k_t}$ are products of Bernoulli numbers and the coefficients $C_{m,{\bf k}}$ are polynomials of $m$ independent of $p$ and $r$. This generalizes previous results by many different authors and confirms a conjecture by the authors and their collaborators.

On $q$-Analogs of Some Families of Multiple Harmonic Sum and Multiple Zeta Star Value Identities

In recent years, there has been intensive research on the ${\mathbb Q}$-linear relations between multiple zeta (star) values. In this paper, we prove many families of identities involving the $q$-analog of these values, from which we can always recover the corresponding classical identities by taking $q\to 1$. The main result of the paper is the duality relations between multiple zeta star values and Euler sums and their $q$-analogs, which are generalizations of the Two-one formula and some multiple harmonic sum identities and their $q$-analogs proved by the authors recently. Such duality relations lead to a proof of the conjecture by Ihara et al. that the Hoffman $\star$-elements $ζ^{\star}(s_1,\dots,s_r)$ with $s_i\in\{2,3\}$ span the vector space generated by multiple zeta values over ${\mathbb Q}$.

Rota--Baxter algebras and left weak composition quasi-symmetric functions

Motivated by a question of Rota, this paper studies the relationship between Rota--Baxter algebras and symmetric related functions. The starting point is the fact that the space of quasi-symmetric functions is spanned by monomial quasi-symmetric functions which are indexed by compositions. When composition is replaced by left weak composition (LWC), we obtain the concept of LWC monomial quasi-symmetric functions and the resulting space of LWC quasi-symmetric functions. In line with the question of Rota, the latter is shown to be isomorphic to the free commutative nonunitary Rota--Baxter algebra on one generator. The combinatorial interpretation of quasi-symmetric functions by $P$-partitions from compositions is extended to the context of left weak compositions, leading to the concept of LWC fundamental quasi-symmetric functions. The transformation formulas for LWC monomial and LWC fundamental quasi-symmetric functions are obtained, generalizing the corresponding results for quasi-symmetric functions. Extending the close relationship between quasi-symmetric functions and multiple zeta values, weighted multiple zeta values and a $q$-analog of multiple zeta values are investigated and a decomposition formula is established.

Congruences Involving Multiple Harmonic Sums and Finite Multiple Zeta Values

Let $p$ be a prime and ${\mathfrak P}_p$ the set of positive integers which are prime to $p$. Recently, Wang and Cai proved that for every positive integer $r$ and prime $p>2$ $$ \sum_{\substack{i+j+k=p^r\\ i,j,k\in{\mathfrak P}_p}} \frac1{ijk} \equiv -2p^{r-1} B_{p-3} \pmod{p^r}, $$ where $B_{p-3}$ is the $(p-3)$-rd Bernoulli number. In this paper we prove the following analogous result: Let $n=2$ or $4$. Then for every positive integer $r\ge n/2$ and prime $p>4$ $$ \sum_{\substack{i_1+\cdots+i_n=p^r\\ i_1,\dots,i_n\in{\mathfrak P}_p}} \frac1{i_1i_2\cdots i_n} \equiv -\frac{n!}{n+1} p^{r} B_{p-n-1} \pmod{p^{r+1}}. $$ Moreover, by using integer relation detecting tool PSLQ we can show that generalizations with larger integers $n$ should involving finite multiple zeta values generated by Bernoulli numbers.

Finite and symmetrized colored multiple zeta values

Colored multiple zeta values are special values of multiple polylogarithms evaluated at Nth roots of unity. In this paper, we define both the finite and the symmetrized versions of these values and show that they both satisfy the double shuffle relations. Further, we provide strong evidence for an isomorphism connecting the two spaces generated by these two kinds of values. This is a generalization of a recent work of Kaneko and Zagier on finite and symmetrized multiple zeta values and of the second author on finite and symmetrized Euler sums.

Finite Multiple zeta Values and Finite Euler Sums

The alternating multiple harmonic sums are partial sums of the infinite series defining the Euler sums which are the alternating version of the multiple zeta value series. In this paper, we present some systematic structural results of the van Hamme type congruences of these sums, collected as finite Euler sums. Moreover, we relate this to the structure of the Euler sums, which generalizes the corresponding result of the multiple zeta values. We also provide a few conjectures with extensive numerical support.

Renormalisation group for multiple zeta values

Calculating multiple zeta values at arguments of any sign in a way that is compatible with both the quasi-shuffle product as well as meromorphic continuation, is commonly referred to as the renormalisation problem for multiple zeta values. We consider the set of all solutions to this problem and provide a framework for comparing its elements in terms of a free and transitive action of a particular subgroup of the group of characters of the quasi-shuffle Hopf algebra. In particular, this provides a transparent way of relating different solutions at non-positive values, which answers an open question in the recent literature.

Transfer group for renormalized multiple zeta values

We describe in this work all solutions to the problem of renormalizing multiple zeta values at arguments of any sign in a quasi-shuffle compatible way. As a corollary we clarify the relation between different renormalizations at non-positive values appearing in the recent literature.

Double Shuffle Relations of Double Zeta Values and Double Eisenstein Series of Level N

In their seminal paper "Double zeta values and modular forms" Gangl, Kaneko and Zagier defined a double Eisenstein series and used it to study the relations between double zeta values. One of their key ideas is to study the formal double space and apply the double shuffle relations. They also proved the double shuffle relations for the double Eisenstein series. More recently, Kaneko and Tasaka extended the double Eisenstein series to level 2, proved its double shuffle relations and studied the double zeta values of level 2. Motivated by the above works, we define in this paper the corresponding objects at higher levels and prove that the double Eisenstein series of level N satisfies the double shuffle relations for every positive integer N. In order to obtain our main theorem we prove a key result on the multiple divisor functions of level N and then use it to solve a complicated under-determined system of linear equations by some standard techniques from linear algebra.

Uniform Approach to Double Shuffle and Duality Relations of Various q-Analogs of Multiple Zeta Values via Rota-Baxter Algebras

The multiple zeta values (MZVs) have been studied extensively in recent years. Currently there exist a few different types of $q$-analogs of the MZVs ($q$-MZVs) defined and studied by mathematicians and physicists. In this paper, we give a uniform treatment of these $q$-MZVs by considering their double shuffle relations (DBSFs) and duality relations. The main idea is a modification and generalization of the one used by Castillo Medina et al. who have considered the DBSFs of a special type of $q$-MZVs. We generalize their method to a few other types of $q$-MZVs including the one defined by the author in 2003. With different approach, Takeyama has already studied this type by "regularization" and observed that there exist $\mathbb Q$-linear relations which are not consequences of the DBSFs. He also discovered a new family of relations which we call the duality relations in this paper. This deficiency of DBSFs occurs among other types, too, so we generalize the duality relations to all of these values and find that there are still some missing relations. This leads to the most general type of $q$-MZVs together with a new kind of relations called $\bf P$-$\bf Q$ relations which are used to lower the deficiencies further. As an application, we will confirm a conjecture of Okounkov on the dimensions of certain $q$-MZV spaces, either theoretically or numerically, for the weight up to 12. Some relevant numerical data are provided at the end.

Multiple Divisor Functions and Multiple Zeta Values at Levle N

Multiple zeta values (MZVs) are generalizations of Riemann zeta values at positive integers to multiple variable setting. These values can be further generalized to level $N$ multiple polylog values by evaluating multiple polylogs at $N$-th roots of unity. In this paper, we consider another level $N$ generalization by restricting the indices in the iterated sums defining MZVs to congruences classes modulo $N$, which we call the MZVs at level $N$. The goals of this paper are two-fold. First, we shall lay down the theoretical foundations of these values such as their regularizations and double shuffle relations. Second, we will generalize the multiple divisor functions (MDFs) defined by Bachman and Kühn to arbitrary level $N$ and study their relations to MZVs at level $N$. These functions are all $q$-series and similar to MZVs, they have both weight and depth filtrations. But unlike that of MZVs, the product of MDFs usually has mixed weights; however, after projecting to the highest weight we can obtain an algebra homomorphism from MDFs to MZVs. Moreover, the image of the derivation $\mathfrak{D}=q\frac{d}{dq}$ on MDFs vanishes on the MZV side, which gives rise to many nontrivial $\mathbb{Q}$-linear relations. In a sequel to this paper, we plan to investigate the nature of these relations.

Families of weighted sum formulas for multiple zeta values

Euler's sum formula and its multi-variable and weighted generalizations form a large class of the identities of multiple zeta values. In this paper we prove a family of identities involving Bernoulli numbers and apply them to obtain infinitely many weighted sum formulas for double zeta values and triple zeta values where the weight coefficients are given by symmetric polynomials. We give a general conjecture in arbitrary depth at the end of the paper.
