A practical approach of measuring $^{238}$U and $^{232}$Th in liquid scintillator to sub-ppq level using ICP-MS

Liquid scintillator (LS) is commonly utilized in experiments seeking rare events due to its high light yield, transparency, and radiopurity. The concentration of $^{238}$U and $^{232}$Th in LS consistently remains below 1 ppq (10$^{-15}$ g/g), and the current screening result is based on a minimum 20-ton detector. Inductively coupled plasma mass (ICP-MS) spectroscopy is well-regarded for its high sensitivity to trace $^{238}$U and $^{232}$Th. This study outlines a method for detecting $^{238}$U and $^{232}$Th in LS at the sub-ppq level using ICP-MS, involving the enrichment of $^{238}$U/$^{232}$Th from the LS through acid extraction. With meticulous cleanliness control, $^{238}$U/$^{232}$Th in approximately 2 kg of LS is concentrated by acid extraction with 0.4 (0.3) pg $^{238}$U ($^{232}$Th) contamination. Three standard adding methods are employed to assess recovery efficiency, including radon daughter, 2,5-diphenyloxazole (PPO), and natural non-existent $^{233}$U/$^{229}$Th. The method detection limit at a 99% confidence level of this approach can reach approximately 0.2-0.3 ppq for $^{238}$U/$^{232}$Th with nearly 100% recovery efficiency.

The convergence rate of the equilibrium measure for the hybrid LQG Mean Field Game

In this work, we study the convergence rate of the $N$-player LQG game with a Markov chain common noise towards its asymptotic Mean Field Game. By postulating a Markovian structure via two auxiliary processes for the first and second moments of the Mean Field Game equilibrium and applying the fixed point condition in Mean Field Game, we first provide the characterization of the equilibrium measure in Mean Field Game with a finite-dimensional Riccati system of ODEs. Additionally, with an explicit coupling of the optimal trajectory of the $N$-player game driven by $N$ dimensional Brownian motion and Mean Field Game counterpart driven by one-dimensional Brownian motion, we obtain the convergence rate $O(N^{-1/2})$ with respect to 2-Wasserstein distance.

Convergence Rate of LQG Mean Field Games with Common Noise

This paper focuses on exploring the convergence properties of a generic player's trajectory and empirical measures in an N-player Linear-Quadratic-Gaussian Nash game, where Brownian motion serves as the common noise. The study establishes three distinct convergence rates concerning the representative player and empirical measure. To investigate the convergence, the methodology relies on a specific decomposition of the equilibrium path in the N-player game and utilizes the associated Mean Field Game framework.

Development of water extraction system for liquid scintillatorpurification of JUNO

The Jiangmen Underground Neutrino Observatory (JUNO) uses 20k tons of liquid scintillator (LS)to detect neutrinos. The content of radioactive substances in the liquid scintillator will affect theexperimental results. JUNO will use counter current water extraction to reduce the radioactive metalions inside the LS. In this article, The factors that affect the final water extraction like the partitioncoefficient and the factors that affect it, the optimal mass transfer droplet size, the flow rate ratio, theoretical stage and different working mode (LS as continuous phase or dispersed phase) have beenstudied. We built counter current extraction prototype in the laboratory and a pilot plant in Daya Bay.We not only study the factors above, but also get a lot of engineering experience that worth sharing.
