Two-Timescale Digital Twin Assisted Model Interference and Retraining over Wireless Network

In this paper, we investigate a resource allocation and model retraining problem for dynamic wireless networks by utilizing incremental learning, in which the digital twin (DT) scheme is employed for decision making. A two-timescale framework is proposed for computation resource allocation, mobile user association, and incremental training of user models. To obtain an optimal resource allocation and incremental learning policy, we propose an efficient two-timescale scheme based on hybrid DT-physical architecture with the objective to minimize long-term system delay. Specifically, in the large-timescale, base stations will update the user association and implement incremental learning decisions based on statistical state information from the DT system. Then, in the short timescale, an effective computation resource allocation and incremental learning data generated from the DT system is designed based on deep reinforcement learning (DRL), thus reducing the network system's delay in data transmission, data computation, and model retraining steps. Simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed two-timescale scheme compared with benchmark schemes.

Near-field Integrated Sensing and Communication: Opportunities and Challenges

With the extremely large-scale array XL-array deployed in future wireless systems, wireless communication and sensing are expected to operate in the radiative near-field region, which needs to be characterized by the spherical rather than planar wavefronts. Unlike most existing works that considered far-field integrated sensing and communication (ISAC), we study in this article the new near-field ISAC, which integrates both functions of sensing and communication in the near-field region. To this end, we first discuss the appealing advantages of near-field communication and sensing over their far-field counterparts, respectively. Then, we introduce three approaches for near-field ISAC, including joint near-field communication and sensing, sensing-assisted near-field communication, and communication-assisted near-field sensing. We discuss their individual research opportunities, new design issues, as well as propose promising solutions. Finally, several important directions in near-field ISAC are also highlighted to motivate future work.

Joint Placement Optimization and RNC in UAV-based Wireless Multicast Networks

Random network coding (RNC) is an efficient coding scheme to improve the performance of the broadband networks, especially for multimedia applications which are popular in 5G network. However, it is a challenging work to transmit the real time media data because of the time limitation and wide band requirement. Moreover, the topology of the network changes due to users' movement, causing huge channel heterogeneity in large wireless network area. In this case, the fixed macro base station (BS) or access point may not fit the real-time user distributions. Accordingly, the UAV-based BS with high mobility can provide flexible service by adjusting it position according to users' locations to fit the dynamic topology of the network. Therefore, in this paper, we propose a UAV-based adaptive RNC (UARNC) scheme that jointly optimizes the UAV's location and RNC packet scheduling to maximize the throughput in a multicast network while guaranteeing the service quality of the bottleneck users. This problem is formulated as an optimization problem, and the greedy scheduling techniques and particle swarm optimization (PSO) algorithm are adopted to solve it. Finally, the simulation results prove the effectiveness of the proposed scheme.
