Fractional conformal Laplacians and fractional Yamabe problems

Based on the relations between scattering operators of asymptotically hyperbolic metrics and Dirichlet-to-Neumann operators of uniformly degenerate elliptic boundary value problems, we formulate fractional Yamabe problems that include the boundary Yamabe problem studied by Escobar. We observe an interesting Hopf type maximum principle together with interplays between analysis of weighted trace Sobolev inequalities and conformal structure of the underlying manifolds, which extend the phenomena displayed in the classic Yamabe problem and boundary Yamabe problem.

Hypersurfaces in hyperbolic space with support function

In this paper we develop a global correspondence between immersed horospherically convex hypersurfaces in hyperbolic space and complete conformal metrics on domains in the sphere. We establish results on when the hyperbolic Gauss map is injective and when an immersed horospherically convex hypersurface can be unfolded along the normal flow into an embedded one. These results allow us to establish general Alexandrov reflection principles of elliptic problems of both Weingarten hypersurfaces and complete conformal metrics and relations between them. Consequently, we are able to obtain, for instance, a strong Bernstein theorem for a complete, immersed, horospherically convex hypersurface of constant mean curvature in hyperbolic space.

A note on static spaces and related problems

We solve the classifying problem raised by Fischer and Marsden for Bach flat static spaces. We also prove the conjecture about critical point equations proposed by Besse for Bach flat manifolds. Particularly in dimension 3, we derive an integral identity that allows us to obtain conformal flatness from the vanish of the full divergence of the Cotton tensor for static metrics and metrics satisfying the critical point equation.

Norm inflation for incompressible magneto-hydrodynamic system ]{Norm inflation for incompressible magneto-hydrodynamic system in $\dot{B}_{\infty}^{-1,\infty}$

We demonstrate that the solutions to the Cauchy problem for the three dimensional incompressible magneto-hydrodynamics (MHD) system can develop diferent types of norm inflations in $\dot{B}_{\infty}^{-1, \infty}$. Particularly the magnetic field can develop norm inflation in short time even when the velocity remains small and vice verse. Efforts are made to present a very expository development of the inginious construction of Bourgain and Pavlović for Navier-Stokes equation.

A Note on Conformal Ricci Flow

In this note we study conformal Ricci flow introduced by Arthur Fischer. We use DeTurck's trick to rewrite conformal Ricci flow as a strong parabolic-elliptic partial differential equations. Then we prove short time existences for conformal Ricci flow on compact manifolds as well as on asymptotically flat manifolds. We show that Yamabe constant is monotonically increasing along conformal Ricci flow on compact manifolds. We also show that conformal Ricci flow is the gradient flow for the ADM mass on asymptotically flat manifolds.

Normalized Ricci flows and conformally compact Einstein metrics

In this paper, we investigate the behavior of the normalized Ricci flow on asymptotically hyperbolic manifolds. We show that the normalized Ricci flow exists globally and converges to an Einstein metric when starting from a non-degenerate and sufficiently Ricci pinched metric. More importantly we use maximum principles to establish the regularity of conformal compactness along the normalized Ricci flow including that of the limit metric at time infinity. Therefore we are able to recover the existence results in \cite{GL} \cite{Lee} \cite{Bi} of conformally compact Einstein metrics with conformal infinities which are perturbations of that of given non-degenerate conformally compact Einstein metrics.

Regularity and rigidity of asymptotically hyperbolic manifolds

In this paper, we study some intrinsic characterization of conformally compact manifolds. We show that, if a complete Riemannian manifold admits an essential set and its curvature tends to -1 at infinity in certain rate, then it is conformally compactifiable and the compactified metrics can enjoy some regularity at infinity. As consequences we prove some rigidity theorems for complete manifolds whose curvature tends to the hyperbolic one in a rate greater than 2.

Hypersurfaces in Hyperbolic Poincaré Manifolds and Conformally Invariant PDEs

We derive a relationship between the eigenvalues of the Weyl-Schouten tensor of a conformal representative of the conformal infinity of a hyperbolic Poincaré manifold and the principal curvatures on the level sets of its uniquely associated defining function with calculations based on [9] [10]. This relationship generalizes the result for hypersurfaces in ${\H}^{n+1}$ and their connection to the conformal geometry of ${\SS}^n$ as exhibited in [7] and gives a correspondence between Weingarten hypersurfaces in hyperbolic Poincaré manifolds and conformally invariant equations on the conformal infinity. In particular, we generalize an equivalence exhibited in [7] between Christoffel-type problems for hypersurfaces in ${\H}^{n+1}$ and scalar curvature problems on the conformal infinity ${\SS}^n$ to hyperbolic Poincaré manifolds.

Spectral characterization of Poincaré-Einstein manifolds with infinity of positive Yamabe type

In this paper, we give a sharp spectral characterization of conformally compact Einstein manifolds with conformal infinity of positive Yamabe type in dimension $n+1>3$. More precisely, we prove that the largest real scattering pole of a conformally compact Einstein manifold $(X,g)$ is less than $\ndemi -1$ if and only if the conformal infinity of $(X,g)$ is of positive Yamabe type. If this positivity is satisfied, we also show that the Green function of the fractional conformal Laplacian $P(α)$ on the conformal infinity is non-negative for all $α\in [0, 2]$.

Some Progress in Conformal Geometry

This is a survey paper of our current research on the theory of partial differential equations in conformal geometry. Our intention is to describe some of our current works in a rather brief and expository fashion. We are not giving a comprehensive survey on the subject and references cited here are not intended to be complete. We introduce a bubble tree structure to study the degeneration of a class of Yamabe metrics on Bach flat manifolds satisfying some global conformal bounds on compact manifolds of dimension 4. As applications, we establish a gap theorem, a finiteness theorem for diffeomorphism type for this class, and diameter bound of the $σ_2$-metrics in a class of conformal 4-manifolds. For conformally compact Einstein metrics we introduce an eigenfunction compactification. As a consequence we obtain some topological constraints in terms of renormalized volumes.

A Positive Mass Theorem on Asymptotically Hyperbolic Manifolds with Corners Along a Hypersurface

In this paper we take an approach similar to that in [M] to establish a positive mass theorem for asymptotically hyperbolic spin manifolds admitting corners along a hypersurface. The main analysis uses an integral representation of a solution to a perturbed eigenfunction equation to obtain an asymptotic expansion of the solution in the right order. This allows us to understand the change of the mass aspect of a conformal change of asymptotically hyperbolic metrics.

On a conformal gap and finiteness theorem for a class of four manifolds

In this paper we develop a bubble tree structure for a degenerating class of Riemannian metrics satisfying some global conformal bounds on compact manifolds of dimension 4. Applying the bubble tree structure, we establish a gap theorem, a finiteness theorem for diffeomorphism type for this class, and a diameter bound for a family of conformal metricssatisfying a suitable curvature equation.

On the renormalized volumes for conformally compact Einstein manifolds

We study the renormalized volume of a conformally compact Einstein manifold. In even dimensions, we derive the analogue of the Chern-Gauss-Bonnet formula incorporating the renormalized volume. When the dimension is odd, we relate the renormalized volume to the conformal primitive of the $Q$-curvature. We show how all the global information come from the Scattering.

On positive solutions to semi-linear conformally invariant equations on locally conformally flat manifolds

In this paper we study the existence and compactness of positive solutions to a family of conformally invariant equations on closed locally conformally flat manifolds. The family of conformally covariant operators $P_α$ were introduced via the scattering theory for Poincaré metrics associated with a conformal manifold $(M^n, [g])$. We prove that, on a closed and locally conformally flat manifold with Poincaré exponent less than $\frac {n-α}2$ for some $α\in [2, n)$, the set of positive smooth solutions to the equation $$ P_αu = u^\frac {n+α}{n-α} $$ is compact in the $C^\infty$ topology. Therefore the existence of positive solutions follows from the existence of Yamabe metrics and a degree theory.
