Accurate correction of arbitrary spin fermions quantum tunneling from non-stationary Kerr-de Sitter black hole based on corrected Lorentz dispersion relation

According to a corrected dispersion relation proposed in the study on string theory and quantum gravity theory, Rarita-Schwinger equation has been precisely modified, which results in a Rarita-Schwinger-Hamilton-Jacobi equation, and through which, the characteristics of arbitrary spin fermions quantum tunneling radiation from non-stationary Kerr-de Sitter black hole are researched. A series of accurately corrected physical quantities such as surface gravity, chemical potential, tunneling probability and Hawking temperature that describe the properties of the black hole are derived. This research has enriched the research methods and made precision of the research contents of black hole physics.

Lorentz symmetry violation and the tunneling radiation of fermions with spin $1/2$ for Kerr Anti-de-Sitter black hole

We studied the correction of the quantum tunneling radiation of fermions with spin $1/2$ in Kerr Anti-de-Sitter black hole. First, the dynamic equation of spin $1/2$ fermions was corrected using Lorentz's violation theory. Second, the new expressions of the fermions quantum tunneling rate, the Hawking temperature of the black hole and the entropy of the black hole were obtained according to the corrected fermions dynamic equation. At last, some comments are made on the results of our work.

Bounded Incentives in Manipulating the Probabilistic Serial Rule

The Probabilistic Serial mechanism is well-known for its desirable fairness and efficiency properties. It is one of the most prominent protocols for the random assignment problem. However, Probabilistic Serial is not incentive-compatible, thereby these desirable properties only hold for the agents' declared preferences, rather than their genuine preferences. A substantial utility gain through strategic behaviors would trigger self-interested agents to manipulate the mechanism and would subvert the very foundation of adopting the mechanism in practice. In this paper, we characterize the extent to which an individual agent can increase its utility by strategic manipulation. We show that the incentive ratio of the mechanism is $\frac{3}{2}$. That is, no agent can misreport its preferences such that its utility becomes more than 1.5 times of what it is when reports truthfully. This ratio is a worst-case guarantee by allowing an agent to have complete information about other agents' reports and to figure out the best response strategy even if it is computationally intractable in general. To complement this worst-case study, we further evaluate an agent's utility gain on average by experiments. The experiments show that an agent' incentive in manipulating the rule is very limited. These results shed some light on the robustness of Probabilistic Serial against strategic manipulation, which is one step further than knowing that it is not incentive-compatible.

Bilinear Constraint based ADMM for Mixed Poisson-Gaussian Noise Removal

In this paper, we propose new operator-splitting algorithms for the total variation regularized infimal convolution (TV-IC) model [4] in order to remove mixed Poisson-Gaussian(MPG) noise. In the existing splitting algorithm for TV-IC, an inner loop by Newton method had to be adopted for one nonlinear optimization subproblem, which increased the computation cost per outer loop. By introducing a new bilinear constraint and applying the alternating direction method of multipliers (ADMM), all subproblems of the proposed algorithms named as BCA (short for Bilinear Constraint based ADMM algorithm) and BCAf(short for a variant of BCA with fully splitting form) can be very efficiently solved; especially for the proposed BCAf, they can be calculated without any inner iterations. Under mild conditions, the convergence of the proposed BCA is investigated. Numerically, compared to existing primal-dual algorithms for the TV-IC model, the proposed algorithms, with fewer tunable parameters, converge much faster and produce comparable results meanwhile.

Class-incremental Learning via Deep Model Consolidation

Deep neural networks (DNNs) often suffer from "catastrophic forgetting" during incremental learning (IL) --- an abrupt degradation of performance on the original set of classes when the training objective is adapted to a newly added set of classes. Existing IL approaches tend to produce a model that is biased towards either the old classes or new classes, unless with the help of exemplars of the old data. To address this issue, we propose a class-incremental learning paradigm called Deep Model Consolidation (DMC), which works well even when the original training data is not available. The idea is to first train a separate model only for the new classes, and then combine the two individual models trained on data of two distinct set of classes (old classes and new classes) via a novel double distillation training objective. The two existing models are consolidated by exploiting publicly available unlabeled auxiliary data. This overcomes the potential difficulties due to the unavailability of original training data. Compared to the state-of-the-art techniques, DMC demonstrates significantly better performance in image classification (CIFAR-100 and CUB-200) and object detection (PASCAL VOC 2007) in the single-headed IL setting.

COBRA: Context-aware Bernoulli Neural Networks for Reputation Assessment

Trust and reputation management (TRM) plays an increasingly important role in large-scale online environments such as multi-agent systems (MAS) and the Internet of Things (IoT). One main objective of TRM is to achieve accurate trust assessment of entities such as agents or IoT service providers. However, this encounters an accuracy-privacy dilemma as we identify in this paper, and we propose a framework called Context-aware Bernoulli Neural Network based Reputation Assessment (COBRA) to address this challenge. COBRA encapsulates agent interactions or transactions, which are prone to privacy leak, in machine learning models, and aggregates multiple such models using a Bernoulli neural network to predict a trust score for an agent. COBRA preserves agent privacy and retains interaction contexts via the machine learning models, and achieves more accurate trust prediction than a fully-connected neural network alternative. COBRA is also robust to security attacks by agents who inject fake machine learning models; notably, it is resistant to the 51-percent attack. The performance of COBRA is validated by our experiments using a real dataset, and by our simulations, where we also show that COBRA outperforms other state-of-the-art TRM systems.

A continuous contact force model for impact analysis in multibody dynamics

A new continuous contact force model for contacting problems with regular or irregular contacting surfaces and energy dissipations in multibody systems is presented and discussed in this work. The model is developed according to Hertz law and a hysteresis damping force is introduced for modeling the energy dissipation during the contact process. As it is almost impossible to obtain an analytical solution based on the system dynamic equation, an approximate dynamic equation for the collision system is proposed, achieving a good approximation of the system dynamic equation. An approximate function between deformation velocity and deformation is founded on the approximate dynamic equation, then it is utilized to calculate the energy loss due to the damping force. The model is established through modifying the original formula of the hysteresis damping parameter derived by combining the energy balance and the law of conservation of linear momentum. Numerical results of five different continuous contact models reveal the capability of our new model as well as the effect of the geometry of the contacting surfaces on the dynamic system response.

Faster than Flash: An In-Depth Study of System Challenges for Emerging Ultra-Low Latency SSDs

Emerging storage systems with new flash exhibit ultra-low latency (ULL) that can address performance disparities between DRAM and conventional solid state drives (SSDs) in the memory hierarchy. Considering the advanced low-latency characteristics, different types of I/O completion methods (polling/hybrid) and storage stack architecture (SPDK) are proposed. While these new techniques are expected to take costly software interventions off the critical path in ULL-applied systems, unfortunately no study exists to quantitatively analyze system-level characteristics and challenges of combining such newly-introduced techniques with real ULL SSDs. In this work, we comprehensively perform empirical evaluations with 800GB ULL SSD prototypes and characterize ULL behaviors by considering a wide range of I/O path parameters, such as different queues and access patterns. We then analyze the efficiencies and challenges of the polled-mode and hybrid polling I/O completion methods (added into Linux kernels 4.4 and 4.10, respectively) and compare them with the efficiencies of a conventional interrupt-based I/O path. In addition, we revisit the common expectations of SPDK by examining all the system resources and parameters. Finally, we demonstrate the challenges of ULL SSDs in a real SPDK-enabled server-client system. Based on the performance behaviors that this study uncovers, we also discuss several system implications, which are required to take a full advantage of ULL SSD in the future.

Radiation hardness study for the COMET Phase-I electronics

Radiation damage on front-end readout and trigger electronics is an important issue in the COMET Phase-I experiment at J-PARC, which plans to search for the neutrinoless transition of a muon to an electron. To produce an intense muon beam, a high-power proton beam impinges on a graphite target, resulting in a high-radiation environment. We require radiation tolerance to a total dose of $1.0\,\mathrm{kGy}$ and $1\,\mathrm{MeV}$ equivalent neutron fluence of $1.0\times10^{12}\,\mathrm{n_{eq}\,cm^{-2}}$ including a safety factor of 5 over the duration of the physics measurement. The use of commercially-available electronics components which have high radiation tolerance, if such components can be secured, is desirable in such an environment. The radiation hardness of commercial electronic components has been evaluated in gamma-ray and neutron irradiation tests. As results of these tests, voltage regulators, ADCs, DACs, and several other components were found to have enough tolerance to both gamma-ray and neutron irradiation at the level we require.

WISPR Imaging of a Pristine CME

The Wide-field Imager for Solar Probe (WISPR) on board the Parker Solar Probe (PSP) observed a CME on 2018 November 01, the first day of the initial PSP encounter. The speed of the CME, approximately 200-300 km s$^{-1}$ in the WISPR field of view, is typical of slow, streamer blowout CMEs. This event was also observed by the LASCO coronagraphs. WISPR and LASCO view remarkably similar structures that enable useful cross-comparison between the two data sets as well as stereoscopic imaging of the CME. Analysis is extended to lower heights by linking the white-light observations to EUV data from AIA, which reveal a structure that erupts more than a full day earlier before the CME finally gathers enough velocity to propagate outward. This EUV feature appears as a brightness enhancement in cooler temperatures such as 171 Å, but as a cavity in nominal coronal temperatures such as 193 Å. By comparing this circular, dark feature in 193 Å\ to the dark, white-light cavity at the center of the eruption in WISPR and LASCO, it can be seen that this is one coherent structure that exists prior to the eruption in the low corona before entering the heliosphere and likely corresponds to the core of the magnetic flux rope. It is also believed that the relative weakness of the event contributed to the clarity of the flux rope in WISPR, as the CME did not experience impulsive forces or strong interaction with external structures that can lead to more complex structural evolution.

Which Channel to Ask My Question? Personalized Customer Service Request Stream Routing using Deep Reinforcement Learning

Customer services are critical to all companies, as they may directly connect to the brand reputation. Due to a great number of customers, e-commerce companies often employ multiple communication channels to answer customers' questions, for example, chatbot and hotline. On one hand, each channel has limited capacity to respond to customers' requests, on the other hand, customers have different preferences over these channels. The current production systems are mainly built based on business rules, which merely considers tradeoffs between resources and customers' satisfaction. To achieve the optimal tradeoff between resources and customers' satisfaction, we propose a new framework based on deep reinforcement learning, which directly takes both resources and user model into account. In addition to the framework, we also propose a new deep-reinforcement-learning based routing method-double dueling deep Q-learning with prioritized experience replay (PER-DoDDQN). We evaluate our proposed framework and method using both synthetic and a real customer service log data from a large financial technology company. We show that our proposed deep-reinforcement-learning based framework is superior to the existing production system. Moreover, we also show our proposed PER-DoDDQN is better than all other deep Q-learning variants in practice, which provides a more optimal routing plan. These observations suggest that our proposed method can seek the trade-off where both channel resources and customers' satisfaction are optimal.

Double Generalized Linear Model Reveals Those with High Intelligence are More Similar in Cortical Thickness

Most studies indicate that intelligence (g) is positively correlated with cortical thickness. However, the interindividual variability of cortical thickness has not been taken into account. In this study, we aimed to identify the association between intelligence and cortical thickness in adolescents from both the group's mean and dispersion point of view, utilizing the structural brain imaging from the Adolescent Brain and Cognitive Development (ABCD) Consortium, the largest cohort in early adolescents around 10 years old. The mean and dispersion parameters of cortical thickness and their association with intelligence were estimated using double generalized linear models(DGLM). We found that for the mean model part, the thickness of the frontal lobe like superior frontal gyrus was negatively related to intelligence, while the surface area was most positively associated with intelligence in the frontal lobe. In the dispersion part, intelligence was negatively correlated with the dispersion of cortical thickness in widespread areas, but not with the surface area. These results suggested that people with higher IQ are more similar in cortical thickness, which may be related to less differentiation or heterogeneity in cortical columns.

Scheme and Experimental Demonstration of Fully Atomic Weak Value Amplification

In this paper, we explore the possibilities of realizing weak value amplification (WVA) using purely atomic degrees of freedom. Our scheme identifies the internal electronic states and external motional states of a single trapped $^{40}$Ca$^+$ ion as the system degree and pointer degree respectively, and their controllable weak coupling is provided by a bichromatic light field. In our experimental demonstration, by performing appropriate postselection on the internal states, a position displacement of 4 angstroms (in phase space) of the trapped ion is amplified to 10 nanometers. The sensitivity of the amplification effect to the relative phase of the quantum state is also demonstrated. The high operational flexibility of this procedure allows fully exploration of the peculiarities of WVA.

All-optical frequency resolved optical gating for isolated attosecond pulse reconstruction

We demonstrate an all-optical approach for precise characterization of attosecond extreme ultraviolet pulses. Isolated attosecond pulse is produced from high order harmonics using intense driving pulse with proper gating technique. When a weak field is synchronized with the driver, it perturbs the harmonics generation process via altering the accumulated phase of the electron trajectories. The perturbed harmonic spectrum can be formulated as a convolution of the unperturbed dipole and a phase gate, implying the validity of complete reconstruction of isolated attosecond pulses using conventional frequency resolved optical gating method. This in situ measurement avoids the central momentum approximation assumed in the widely used attosecond streaking measurement, providing a simple and reliable metrology for isolated attosecond pulse.

Research Commentary on Recommendations with Side Information: A Survey and Research Directions

Recommender systems have become an essential tool to help resolve the information overload problem in recent decades. Traditional recommender systems, however, suffer from data sparsity and cold start problems. To address these issues, a great number of recommendation algorithms have been proposed to leverage side information of users or items (e.g., social network and item category), demonstrating a high degree of effectiveness in improving recommendation performance. This Research Commentary aims to provide a comprehensive and systematic survey of the recent research on recommender systems with side information. Specifically, we provide an overview of state-of-the-art recommendation algorithms with side information from two orthogonal perspectives. One involves the different methodologies of recommendation: the memory-based methods, latent factor, representation learning, and deep learning models. The others cover different representations of side information, including structural data (flat, network, and hierarchical features, and knowledge graphs); and non-structural data (text, image and video features). Finally, we discuss challenges and provide new potential directions in recommendation, along with the conclusion of this survey.

Reconstructing equation of state of dark energy with principal component analysis

We represent a nonparametric method to reconstruct the equation of state for dark energy directly from observational Hubble parameter data. We use principal component analysis (PCA) to extract the signal from data with noise. Moreover, we modify Akaike information criterion (AIC) to guarantee the quality of reconstruction and avoid over-fitting simultaneously. The results show that our method is robust in reconstruction of dark energy equation of state. Although current observational Hubble parameter data alone can not give a strong constraint yet, our results indicate that future observations can significantly improve the quality of the reconstruction.

Method of diagnosing heart disease based on deep learning ECG signal

The traditional method of diagnosing heart disease on ECG signal is artificial observation. Some have tried to combine expertise and signal processing to classify ECG signal by heart disease type. However, the currency is not so sufficient that it can be used in medical applications. We develop an algorithm that combines signal processing and deep learning to classify ECG signals into Normal AF other rhythm and noise, which help us solve this problem. It is demonstrated that we can obtain the time-frequency diagram of ECG signal by wavelet transform, and use DNN to classify the time-frequency diagram to find out the heart disease that the signal collector may have. Overall, an accuracy of 94 percent is achieved on the validation set. According to the evaluation criteria of PhysioNet/Computing in Cardiology (CinC) in 2017, the F1 score of this method is 0.957, which is higher than the first place in the competition in 2017.
