Late decaying axino as CDM and its lifetime bound

The axino with mass in the GeV region can be cold dark matter(CDM) in the galactic halo. However, if R-parity is broken, for example by the bilinear terms $μ_α$, then axino($\tilde a$) can decay to $ν+γ$. In this case, the most stringent bound on the axino lifetime comes from the diffuse photon background and we obtain that the axino lifetime should be greater than $3.9\times 10^{24}Ω_{\tilde a}h$ s which amounts to a very small bilinear R-parity violation, i.e. $μ_α<1$ keV. This invalidates the atmospheric neutrino mass generation through bilinear R-violating terms within the context of axino CDM.

Localized gravity and mass hierarchy in D=6 with the Gauss-Bonnet term

We obtain the localized gravity on the intersection of two orthogonal non-solitonic or solitonic 4-branes in D=6 in the presence of the Gauss-Bonnet term. The tension of the intersection is allowed to exist unlike the case without the Gauss-Bonnet term. We show that gravity could be confined to the solitonic 4-branes for a particular choice of the Gauss-Bonnet coupling. If the extra dimensions are compactified with the $T^2/(Z_2\times Z_2)$ orbifold symmetry, the mass hierarchy between the Planck scale and the weak scale can be explained by putting our universe at the TeV intersection of positive tension located at the orbifold fixed point.

Axinos as Dark Matter

Supersymmetric extensions of the Standard Model that incorporate the axion solution to the strong CP problem necessarily contain also the axino, the fermionic partner of the axion. In contrast to the neutralino and the gravitino, the axino mass is generically not of the order of the supersymmetry-breaking scale and can be much smaller. The axino is therefore an intriguing candidate for a stable superpartner. In a previous Letter [1] it was shown that axinos are a natural candidate for cold dark matter in the Universe when they are generated non-thermally through out-of-equilibrium neutralino decays. Here, we extend the study of non-thermal production and include a competing thermal production mechanism through scatterings and decays of particles in the plasma. We identify axino masses in the range of tens of MeV to several GeV (depending on the scenario) as corresponding to cold axino relics if the reheating temperature $\treh$ is less than about $5\times10^4\gev$. At higher $\treh$ and lower mass, axinos could constitute warm dark matter. In the scenario with axinos as relics, the gravitino problem finds a natural solution. The lightest superpartner of the Standard Model spectrum remains effectively stable in high-energy detectors but may be either neutral or charged. The usual highly restrictive constraint $\abundchi\lsim1$ on the relic abundance of the lightest neutralino becomes void.

Model for self-tuning the cosmological constant

The vanishing cosmological constant in the four dimensional space-time is obtained in a 5D Randall-Sundrum model with a brane (B1) located at $y=0$. The matter fields can be located at the brane. For settling any vacuum energy generated at the brane to zero, we need a three index antisymmetric tensor field $A_{MNP}$ with a specific form for the Lagrangian. For the self-tuning mechanism, the bulk cosmological constant should be negative.

Mass scales in the RS models: the $μ$ and cosmological constant

There is the scale problem in the Randall-Sundrum models. Regarding this, I review the works done with B. S. Kyae and H. M. Lee. In a supersymmetric generalization in the RSI model, we discuss that the $μ$ parameter can be obtained by an intermediate scale brane. In addition, we also discuss the cosmological constant problem with a self-tuning solution in the RSII model.

Self-tuning solution of the cosmological constant problem with antisymmetric tensor field

We present a self-tuning solution of the cosmological constant problem with one extra dimension which is curved with a warp factor. To separate out the extra dimension and to have a self-tuning solution, a three index antisymmetric tensor field is introduced with the $1/H^2$ term in the Lagrangian. The standard model fields are located at the $y=0$ brane. The existence \cite{kklcc} of the self-tuning solution (which results without any fine tuning among parameters in the Lagrangian) is crucial to obtain a vanishing cosmological constant in a 4D effective theory. The de Sitter and anti de Sitter space solutions are possible. The de Sitter space solutions have horizons. Restricting to the spaces which contain the $y=0$ brane, the vanishing cosmological constant is chosen in the most probable universe. For this interpretaion to be valid, the existence of the self-tuning solution is crucial in view of the phase transitions. In this paper, we show explicitly a solution in case the brane tension shifts from one to another value. We also discuss the case with the $H^2$ term which leads to one-fine-tuning solutions at most.

The $μ$ and soft masses from the intermediate scale brane with non-factorizable geometry

The proton decay problem and the negative brane tension problem in the original Randall-Sundrum model can be resolved by interpreting the Planck scale brane as the visible sector brane. The hierarchy problem is resolved with supersymmetry, and the TeV scales for soft masses and $μ$ in supersymmetric models are generated by the physics at the intermediate scale ($\sim 10^{11-13}$ GeV) brane.

Gravity in the Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet Theory with the Randall-Sundrum Background

We obtain the full 5D graviton propagator in the Randall-Sundrum model with the Gauss-Bonnet interaction. From the decomposition of the graviton propagator on the brane, we show that localization of gravity arises in the presence of the Gauss-Bonnet term. We also obtain the metric perturbation for observers on the brane with considering the brane bending and compute the amplitude of one massless graviton exchange. For the positive definite amplitude or no ghost states, the sign of the Gauss-Bonnet coefficient should be negative in our convention, which is compatible with string amplitude computations. In that case, the ghost-free condition is sufficient for obtaining the Newtonian gravity. For a vanishing Gauss-Bonnet coefficient, the brane bending allows us to reproduce the correct graviton polarizations for the effective 4D Einstein gravity.

The radion contribution to the weak mixing angle

In the Randall-Sundrum (RS) compactification, the gap between two branes is stabilized by the vacuum expectation value of a scalar field called {\it radion}, $ϕ$. This radion behaves like a weak interaction singlet scalar field, coupling to matter through the trace of the energy momentum tensor. We find that it can induce a sizable correction to the weak mixing angle if the vacuum expectation value and the mass of the radion is around TeV. We also comment on the contribution to the $K_L-K_S$ mass difference and to $(g-2)_μ$.

Model-dependent Axion as Quintessence with Almost Massless Hidden Sector Quarks

A pseudo-Goldstone boson for {\it quintessence} is known to require the decay constant $F_q\sim M_P$ and the height of the potential $(0.003 {\rm eV})^4$, and hence the pseudo-Goldstone boson mass of order $10^{-33}$ eV. The model-dependent axion in some superstring models is suggested as a good candidate for the quintessence. We realize this idea with a hidden-sector gauge group $SU(3)_H\times U(1)_H$. The hidden-sector instanton contribution to the quintessence potential is suppressed by the almost massless hidden-sector quarks. The model-independent axion is the QCD axion required for the strong CP solution.

Exact Cosmological Solution and Modulus Stabilization in the Randall-Sundrum Model with Bulk Matter

We provide the exact time-dependent cosmological solutions in the Randall-Sundrum (RS) setup with bulk matter, which may be smoothly connected to the static RS metric. In the static limit of the extra dimension, the solutions are reduced to the standard Friedmann equations. In view of our solutions, we also propose an explanation for how the extra dimension is stabilized in spite of a flat modulus potential at the classical level.

A Theoretical Review of Axion

It is emphasized that the existence of a very light axion is consistent with the strong CP invariance and cosmological and astrophysical constraints. The attempt to embed the very light axion in superstring models is discussed.

Effective Gauss-Bonnet Interaction in Randall-Sundrum Compactification

The effective gravitational interaction below the Planck scale in the Randall-Sundrum world is shown to be the Gauss-Bonnet term. In this theory we find that there exists another static solution with a positive bulk cosmological constant. Also, there exist solutions for positive visible sector cosmological constant, which are needed for a later Friedman-Robertson-Walker universe.

Constraints on Parameters of the R_F Parity Model from Quark and Neutrino Mass Matrices

The forms of quark and lepton mass matrices are severely restricted in the $R_F$ parity model. We determine the form of the quark mass matrix first and derive the form of the neutrino mass matrix. For this to be consistent with the present experiments, we conclude that the masses of the superpartners of the right--handed down-type squarks and sneutrino vacuum expectation values satisfy, ${m_{\tilde{d}_{Rj}}}\vmu \gtrsim 400 ~{\rm GeV}^2 $ or ${m_{\tilde{d}_{Rj}}}\vtau \gtrsim 400 ~{\rm GeV}^2 $. We also find that without a sterile neutrino it is difficult to obtain a large mixing angle solution of $ν_μ$ and $ν_τ$. With a sterile neutrino, we show a possibility for a large mixing angle solution of $ν_μ$ with $ν_{\rm sterile}$.

Neutrino Mass and Lepton Number Violation with Charged Scalars

If there exist only three light neutrinos below the weak scale, the neutrino masses can arise by breaking the lepton number L. One example is the Zee mechanism for the neutrino masses. We study phenomenological implications of neutrino masses arising from the L violation through introduction of SU(2) X U(1) singlet scalars with Q_{em}=1 and 2.

Axinos as Cold Dark Matter

We show that axinos produced in the early Universe in the decay of the lightest neutralinos are a natural candidate for cold dark matter. We argue that axinos may well provide the main component of the missing mass in the Universe because their relic density is often comparable with the critical density.
