Quantum pumping induced by disorder in one dimension

The topological property in one dimension (1D) is protected by symmetry. Based on a concrete model, we show that since a 1D topological model usually contain two of the three Pauli matrix, the left one automatically become the protecting symmetry. We study the effect of disorder preserving or breaking the symmetry and show the nature of symmetry protecting in the 1D topological phase. Based on the 1D topological model, a stable quantum pumping can be constructed, which is topologically nontrivial and can be characterized by the Chern number. By calculating the instantaneous local current we show that an integer charge is pumped across a periodic chain in a cyclic process. Also on an open chain, an edge state can be transferred to the other edge by the quantum pumping. Furthermore we find that not only the quantum pumping is stable to on-site disorder, but also can be induced by it. These results may be realized experimentally using quasicrystals.

Magnetic properties of spin-1/2 Fermi gases with ferromagnetic interaction

We investigate the magnetic properties of spin-$1/2$ charged Fermi gases with ferromagnetic coupling via mean-field theory, and find the interplay among the paramagnetism, diamagnetism and ferromagnetism. Paramagnetism and diamagnetism compete with each other. When increasing the ferromagnetic coupling the spontaneous magnetization occurs in a weak magnetic field. The critical ferromagnetic coupling constant of the paramagnetic phase to ferromagnetic phase transition increases linearly with the temperature. Both the paramagnetism and diamagnetism increase when the magnetic field increases. It reveals the magnetization density $\bar M$ increases firstly as the temperature increases, and then reaches a maximum. Finally the magnetization density $\bar M$ decreases smoothly in the high temperature region. The domed shape of the magnetization density $\bar M$ variation is different from the behavior of Bose gas with ferromagnetic coupling. We also find the curve of susceptibility follows the Curie-Weiss law, and for a given temperature the susceptibility is directly proportional to the Landé factor.

Doping dependence of Meissner effect in triangular-lattice superconductors

In the spin-excitation-mediated pairing mechanism for superconductivity, the geometric frustration effects not only the spin configuration but also the superconducting-state properties. Within the framework of the kinetic-energy-driven superconducting mechanism, the doping and temperature dependence of the Meissner effect in triangular-lattice superconductors is investigated. It is shown that the magnetic-field-penetration depth exhibits an exponential temperature dependence due to the absence of the d-wave gap nodes at the Fermi surface. However, in analogy to the dome-like shape of the doping dependence of the superconducting transition temperature, the superfluid density increases with increasing doping in the lower doped regime, and reaches a maximum around the critical doping, then decreases in the higher doped regime.

Effect of the pseudogap on the infrared response in cuprate superconductors

One of the most essential aspects of cuprate superconductors is a large pseudogap coexisting with a superconducting gap, then some anomalous properties can be understood in terms of the formation of the pseudogap. Within the kinetic energy driven superconducting mechanism, the effect of the pseudogap on the infrared response of cuprate superconductors in the superconducting-state is studied. By considering the interplay between the superconducting gap and pseudogap, the electron current-current correlation function is evaluated based on the linear response approach and it then is employed to calculate finite-frequency conductivity. It is shown that in the underdoped and optimally doped regimes, the transfer of the part of the low-energy spectral weight of the conductivity spectrum to the higher energy region to form a midinfrared band is intrinsically associated with the presence of the pseudogap.

Pseudogap and charge dynamics in doped cuprates

Within the microscopic theory of the normal-state pseudogap state, the doping and temperature dependence of the charge dynamics in doped cuprates is studied in the whole doping range from the underdoped to heavily overdoped. The conductivity spectrum in the underdoped and optimally doped regimes contains the low-energy non-Drude peak and unusual midinfrared band. However, the position of the midinfrared band shifts towards to the low-energy non-Drude peak with increasing doping. In particular, the low-energy non-Drude peak incorporates with the midinfrared band in the heavily overdoped regime, and then the low-energy Drude behavior recovers. It is shown that the striking behavior of the low-energy non-Drude peak and unusual midinfrared band in the underdoped and optimally doped regimes is closely related to the emergence of the doping and temperature dependence of the normal-state pseudogap.

Magnetic properties of two-dimensional charged spin-1 Bose gases

Within the mean-field theory, we investigate the magnetic properties of a charged spin-1 Bose gas in two dimension. In this system the diamagnetism competes with paramagnetism, where Lande-factor $g$ is introduced to describe the strength of the paramagnetic effect. The system presents a crossover from diamagnetism to paramagnetism with the increasing of Lande-factor. The critical value of the Lande-factor, $g_{c}$, is discussed as a function of the temperature and magnetic field. We get the same value of $g_{c}$ both in the low temperature and strong magnetic field limit. Our results also show that in very weak magnetic field no condensation happens in the two dimensional charged spin-1 Bose gas.

Interplay between superconductivity and pseudogap state in bilayer cuprate superconductors

The interplay between the superconducting gap and normal-state pseudogap in the bilayer cuprate superconductors is studied based on the kinetic energy driven superconducting mechanism. It is shown that the charge carrier interaction directly from the interlayer coherent hopping in the kinetic energy by exchanging spin excitations does not provide the contribution to the normal-state pseudogap in the particle-hole channel and superconducting gap in the particle-particle channel, while only the charge carrier interaction directly from the intralayer hopping in the kinetic energy by exchanging spin excitations induces the normal-state pseudogap in the particle-hole channel and superconducting gap in the particle-particle channel, and then the two-gap behavior is a universal feature for the single layer and bilayer cuprate superconductors.

Magnetic properties of charged spin-1 Bose gases with ferromagnetic coupling

Magnetic properties of a charged spin-1 Bose gas with ferromagnetic interactions is investigated within mean-field theory. It is shown that a competition between paramagnetism, diamagnetism and ferromagnetism exists in this system. It is shown that diamagnetism, being concerned with spontaneous magnetization, cannot exceed ferromagnetism in very weak magnetic field. The critical value of reduced ferromagnetic coupling of paramagnetic phase to ferromagnetic phase transition $\bar I_{c}$ increases with increasing temperature. The Lande-factor $g$ is introduced to describe the strength of paramagnetic effect which comes from the spin degree of freedom. The magnetization density $\bar M$ increases monotonically with $g$ for fixed reduced ferromagnetic coupling $\bar I$ as $\bar I>\bar I_{c}$. In a weak magnetic field, ferromagnetism makes immense contribution to the magnetization density. While at a high magnetic field, the diamagnetism inclines to saturate. Evidence for condensation can be seen in the magnetization density at weak magnetic field.

Spin dynamics in the pressure-induced two-leg ladder cuprate superconductor Sr$_{14-x}$Ca$_{x}$Cu$_{24}$O$_{41}$

Within the two-leg $t$-J ladder, the spin dynamics of the pressure-induced two-leg ladder cuprate superconductor Sr$_{14-x}$Ca$_{x}$Cu$_{24}$O$_{41}$ is studied based on the kinetic energy driven superconducting mechanism. It is shown that in the pressure-induced superconducting state, the incommensurate spin correlation appears in the underpressure regime, while the commensurate spin fluctuation emerges in the optimal pressure and overpressure regimes. In particular, the spin-lattice relaxation time is dominated by a temperature linear dependence term at low temperature followed by a peak developed below the superconducting transition temperature, in qualitative agreement with the experimental observation on Sr$_{14-x}$Ca$_{x}$Cu$_{24}$O$_{41}$.

Competition between paramagnetism and diamagnetism in charged Fermi gases

The charged Fermi gas with a small Lande-factor $g$ is expected to be diamagnetic, while that with a larger $g$ could be paramagnetic. We calculate the critical value of the $g$-factor which separates the dia- and para-magnetic regions. In the weak-field limit, $g_{c}$ has the same value both at high and low temperatures, $g_{c}=1/\sqrt{12}$. Nevertheless, $g_{c}$ increases with the temperature reducing in finite magnetic fields. We also compare the $g_{c}$ value of Fermi gases with those of Boltzmann and Bose gases, supposing the particle has three Zeeman levels $σ=\pm1, 0$, and find that $g_{c}$ of Bose and Fermi gases is larger and smaller than that of Boltzmann gases, respectively.

Diamagnetism versus Paramagnetism in charged spin-1 Bose gases

It has been suggested that either diamagnetism or paramagnetism of Bose gases, due to the charge or spin degrees of freedom respectively, appears solely to be extraordinarily strong. We investigate magnetic properties of charged spin-1 Bose gases in external magnetic field, focusing on the competition between the diamagnetism and paramagnetism, using the Lande-factor $g$ of particles to evaluate the strength of paramagnetic effect. We propose that a gas with $g<{1/\sqrt{8}}$ exhibits diamagnetism at all temperatures, while a gas with $g>{1/2}$ always exhibits paramagnetism. Moreover, a gas with the Lande-factor in between shows a shift from paramagnetism to diamagnetism as the temperature decreases. The paramagnetic and diamagnetic contributions to the total magnetization density are also calculated in order to demonstrate some details of the competition.

Thermodynamic properties of the itinerant-boson ferromagnet

Thermodynamics of a spin-1 Bose gas with ferromagnetic interactions are investigated via the mean-field theory. It is apparently shown in the specific heat curve that the system undergoes two phase transitions, the ferromagnetic transition and the Bose-Einstein condensation, with the Curie point above the condensation temperature. Above the Curie point, the susceptibility fits the Curie-Weiss law perfectly. At a fixed temperature, the reciprocal susceptibility is also in a good linear relationship with the ferromagnetic interaction.

Electronic structure of kinetic energy driven superconductors in the presence of bilayer splitting

Within the framework of the kinetic energy driven superconductivity, the electronic structure of bilayer cuprate superconductors in the superconducting state is studied. It is shown that the electron spectrum of bilayer cuprate superconductors is split into the bonding and antibonding components by the bilayer splitting, then the observed peak-dip-hump structure around the $[π,0]$ point is mainly caused by this bilayer splitting, with the superconducting peak being related to the antibonding component, and the hump being formed by the bonding component. The spectral weight increases with increasing the doping concentration. In analogy to the normal state case, both electron antibonding peak and bonding hump have the weak dispersions around the $[π,0]$ point.

Doping and temperature dependence of electron spectrum and quasiparticle dispersion in doped bilayer cuprates

Within the t-t'-J model, the electron spectrum and quasiparticle dispersion in doped bilayer cuprates in the normal state are discussed by considering the bilayer interaction. It is shown that the bilayer interaction splits the electron spectrum of doped bilayer cuprates into the bonding and antibonding components around the $(π,0)$ point. The differentiation between the bonding and antibonding components is essential, which leads to two main flat bands around the $(π,0)$ point below the Fermi energy. In analogy to the doped single layer cuprates, the lowest energy states in doped bilayer cuprates are located at the $(π/2,π/2)$ point. Our results also show that the striking behavior of the electronic structure in doped bilayer cuprates is intriguingly related to the bilayer interaction together with strong coupling between the electron quasiparticles and collective magnetic excitations.

Pressure dependence of superconductivity in doped two-leg ladder cuprates

Within the kinetic energy driven superconducting mechanism, the effect of the pressure on superconductivity in doped two-leg ladder cuprates is studied. It is shown that the superconducting transition temperature in doped two-leg ladder cuprate superconductors increases with increasing pressure in the underpressure regime, and reaches a maximum in the optimal pressure, then decreases in the overpressure regime. This domed shape of the pressure dependence of the superconducting transition temperature is similar to that of the pressure dependence of the longitudinal part of the superconducting gap parameter, indicating that superconductivity in doped two-leg ladder cuprates is mainly produced by the development of the pairing correlation along legs.

Within the t-J ladder model, superconductivity with a modified d-wave symmetry in doped two-leg ladder cuprates is investigated based on the kinetic energy driven superconducting mechanism. It is shown that the spin-liquid ground-state at the half-filling evolves into the superconducting ground-state upon doping. In analogy to the doping dependence of the superconducting transition temperature in the planar cuprate superconductors, the superconducting transition temperature in doped two-leg ladder cuprates increases with increasing doping in the underdoped regime, and reaches a maximum in the optimal doping, then decreases in the overdoped regime.

Thermal conductivity in the doped two-leg ladder antiferromagnet Sr$_{14-x}$Ca$_{x}$Cu$_{24}$O$_{41}$

Within the t-J model, the heat transport of the doped two-leg ladder material Sr$_{14-x}$Ca$_{x}$Cu$_{24}$O$_{41}$ is studied in the doped regime where superconductivity appears under pressure in low temperatures. The energy dependence of the thermal conductivity $κ_{c}(ω)$ shows a low-energy peak, while the temperature dependence of the thermal conductivity $κ_{c}(T)$ is characterized by a broad band. In particular, $κ_{c}(T)$ increases monotonously with increasing temperature at low temperatures $T<0.05J$, and is weakly temperature dependent in the temperature range $0.05J 0.1J$, in qualitative agreement with experiments. Our result also shows that although both dressed holons and spinons are responsible for the thermal conductivity, the contribution from the dressed spinons dominates the heat transport of Sr$_{14-x}$Ca$_{x}$Cu$_{24}$O$_{41}$.

A gauge invariant dressed holon and spinon description of the normal-state of underdoped cuprates

A partial charge-spin separation fermion-spin theory is developed to study the normal-state properties of the underdoped cuprates. In this approach, the physical electron is decoupled as a gauge invariant dressed holon and spinon, with the dressed holon behaving like a spinful fermion, and represents the charge degree of freedom together with the phase part of the spin degree of freedom, while the dressed spinon is a hard-core boson, and representing the amplitude part of the spin degree of freedom. The electron local constraint for single occupancy is satisfied. Within this approach, the charge and spin dynamics of the underdoped cuprates are studied based on the t-t'-J model. It is shown that the charge dynamics is mainly governed by the scattering from the dressed holons due to the dressed spinon fluctuation, while the scattering from the dressed spinons due to the dressed holon fluctuation dominates the spin dynamics.
