Shadow of a circular disformal Kerr black hole beyond GR

We have studied the shadows of a circular disformal Kerr black hole with a deformation parameter, which represents a rotating solution within a generalized scalar-tensor framework of Horndeski gravity that characterized by second-order field equations. Our result show that for the non-rotating case, the shadow remains perfectly circular, with its radius independent of the deformation parameter. For the rotating case, the size of the shadow decreases as the deformation parameter decreases, and the shape of the shadow gradually becomes more flattened. It is worth noting that while the shadow of a rotating black hole remains north-south symmetric for equatorial observers, this symmetry is broken once the observer moves away from the equatorial plane. For an observer in the northern hemisphere, the geometric center of the shadow shifts northward when $D_0<0$ and southward when $D_0>0$, while the opposite behavior occurs for observers in the southern hemisphere. These features in the black hole shadow originating from the scalar field could help us to understand the circular disformal Kerr black hole and generalized scalar-tensor framework of Horndeski gravity.

Effects of tidal charge on Blandford-Znajek process around braneworld black holes

The Blandford-Znajek (BZ) process is a pivotal mechanism to efficiently extract the energy from a rotating black hole (BH) via its plasma-filled magnetosphere in relativistic astrophysics. Within the framework of extended BZ monopole expansion, we have studied BZ process in the Randall-Sundrum braneworld BH spacetime and analyzed effects of the tidal charge on the energy and angular momentum extraction rates. It is found that the positive tidal charge reduces the BZ power of a braneworld BH, while the negative tidal charge enhances the power. Compared with a Kerr BH of the same mass and angular velocity, the BZ power exhibits a maximum reduction of approximately $15.2\%$ in positive cases, whereas in negative cases, it achieves a maximum enhancement of $66.5\%$ in power output. A similar qualitative trend is also observed for the relative angular momentum extraction rate, albeit with different magnitudes.

Charged Dirac perturbations on Reissner-Nordström black holes in a cavity: quasinormal modes with Robin boundary conditions

We investigate charged Dirac quasinormal spectra on Reissner-Nordström black holes in a mirror-like cavity. For this purpose, we first derive charged Dirac equations, and \textit{two} sets of Robin boundary conditions following the vanishing energy flux principle. The Dirac spectra are then computed both analytically and numerically. Our results reveal a symmetry hidden in the Dirac spectra between two boundary conditions. Moreover, when the cavity is placed close to the event horizon $r_+$, we identify that, in the neutral background the Dirac spectra asymptote to $-(3/8+N/2)i$ [$-(1/8+N/2)i$] for the first [second] boundary condition; while in the charged background the real part of charged Dirac spectra asymptote to $qQ/r_+$ for both boundary conditions; where $N$ is the overtone number, $q$ and $Q$ are charges for the field and for the background. In particular, we uncover a striking anomalous decay pattern, $i.e.$ the excited modes decay \textit{slower} than the fundamental mode, when the charge coupling $qQ$ is large. Our results further illustrate the robustness of vanishing energy flux principle, which are applicable not only to anti-de Sitter black holes but also to black holes in a cavity.

Effective metric for binaries in framework of EOB theory to fifth PM order

To establish a self-consistent effective one-body (EOB) theory that describes the dynamical evolution of binary systems based on the post-Minkowskian (PM) approximation, where the Hamiltonian, radiation reaction force, and waveforms are derived from an effective metric, the primary objective is to obtain the effective metric. Given that third generation gravitational wave detectors require at least fifth-order PM accuracy, in this paper we constructed an effective metric in the EOB theory of binaries up to fifth PM order. The effective metric is of type D, allowing for the derivation of decoupled and variable-separable equations for the null tetrad component of the gravitational perturbed Weyl tensor. This presents a basis for us to establish a self-consistent EOB theory up to 5PM order.

The images of Brans-Dicke-Kerr type naked singularities

We have studied the images of the Brans-Dicke-Kerr spacetime with a dimensionless Brans-Dicke parameter $ω$, which belongs to axisymmetric rotating solutions in the Brans-Dicke theory. Our results show that the Brans-Dicke-Kerr spacetime with the parameter $ω>-3/2$ represents naked singularities with distinct structures. For the case with $a \leq M$, the shadow in the Brans-Dicke-Kerr spacetime persists, gradually becomes flatter and smaller as $ω$ decreases. Especially when $ω<1/2$, the shadow in the image exhibit a very special ``jellyfish" shape and possesses a self-similar fractal structure. For the case with $a > M$, a distinct gray region consisting of two separate patches appears in the image observed by equatorial observers. This indicating that the Brans-Dicke-Kerr spacetime can be distinguished from the Kerr and Kerr-de Sitter cases based on its image. These effects of the Brans-Dicke parameter could help us to reveal the intrinsic structure of the Brans-Dicke-Kerr spacetimes and provide a foundation for testing Brans-Dicke theory through future high-precision observations.

Quasinormal modes and echoes of a double braneworld

In this work, we study the gravitational quasinormal modes and the gravitational echoes of a double braneworld. The double braneworld is a kind of split thick brane, which is crucial for addressing the hierarchy problem in the thick brane scenarios. Using the Bernstein spectral method, direct integration method, and asymptotic iteration method, we calculate the quasinormal mode frequencies of the double brane. We find that the quasinormal spectrum is very different from that of the single brane model, especially the high overtone mode. We also perform numerical evolution to study the time-domain properties of the characteristic modes of the double brane. The results show that when the degree of brane splitting is large, gravitational echoes of oscillation attenuation between sub-branes will appear in the thick brane. Furthermore, different long-lived Kaluza-Klein modes interfere with each other, resulting in a beating effect. Compared to a single brane model, the phenomenon of the split double brane is richer, and the lifetime of the massive Kaluza-Klein graviton of the double brane is longer. These phenomena may have potential phenomenological interest. We hope to detect these extra-dimensional signals in future gravitational wave detectors or accelerators.

Graviscalar quasinormal modes and asymptotic tails of a thick brane

In this work, we investigate the graviscalar quasinormal modes (QNMs) and their asymptotic tail behavior of a thick brane. Considering the scalar perturbations of the thick brane metric, we obtain the main equations of graviscalar Kaluza-Klein modes. Based on these equations, the frequencies of the graviscalar QNMs of the thick brane are obtained by the Wentzel-Kramers-Brillouin, asymptotic iteration, and numerical evolution methods. The results show that the scalar fluctuation of the thick brane has a series of discrete QNMs, similar to the tensor perturbation of the brane. These modes appear as decaying massive scalar particles in four-dimensional spacetime. We also studied in detail the late time tails of these QNMs and found that some modes have slowly decaying oscillatory tails that may be new sources of the gravitational wave backgrounds. Obviously, the QNMs contain the information of the brane and are characteristic modes of the thick brane.

Motion of spinning particles around black hole in a dark matter halo

The motion of a rapidly rotating object in curved spacetime is affected by the spin-curvature force, an effect captured in the motion of spinning test particles. Recently, Cardoso et al.~[Phys. Rev. D 105, L061501 (2022)] found an exact solution describing a black hole immersed in a Hernquist distribution of dark matter. In this work, we investigate the motion of spinning particles around this black hole. We use the Mathison-Papapetrou-Dixon equation and the Tulczyjew spin-supplementary condition to calculate the effective potential, four-momentum, and four-velocity of the spinning particle. The equatorial motion of spinning test particles and the properties of the marginally bound orbits, innermost stable circular orbits, and periodic orbits are further studied. We find that the existence of dark matter halos can significantly change the orbital eccentricity, energy, and the marginally bound orbits, innermost stable circular orbits, and periodic orbits parameters of spinning test particles. Compared to the Schwarzschild black hole, dark matter halos bring the marginally bound orbit and innermost stable circular orbit of a spinning test particle closer to the event horizon. These results could help us understand the properties of black holes in dark matter halos.

Harvesting entanglement from the Lorentz-violating quantum field vacuum in a dipolar Bose-Einstein condensate

We theoretically propose an experimentally viable scheme to explore the transfer of nonclassical correlations from a dipolar Bose-Einstein condensate (BEC) to a pair of impurities immersed in it. Operating at ultra-low temperature, density fluctuations of the dipolar BEC emulate a vacuum field with Lorentz-violating dispersion, while the two impurities function as Unruh-DeWitt detectors for the BEC quasiparticles. We study the harvesting of entanglement from the quantum vacuum of this analogue Lorentz-violating quantum field by spatially separated Unruh-DeWitt detectors. Our analysis reveals key parameter dependencies that optimize the harvesting of entanglement. In particular, unlike the Lorentz-invariant case, smoother detector switchings does not enhance the entanglement harvesting efficiency from the Lorentz-violating quantum field vacuum. Moreover, the strength of the Lorentz-invariant violation can shift the optimal energy structure of the detectors for harvesting entanglement from the Lorentz-violating quantum field vacuum-a clear deviation from the Lorentz-invariant scenario. As a fundamental quantum mechanical setup, our quantum fluid platform provides an experimentally realizable testbed for examining the entanglement harvesting protocol from an effective Lorentz-violating quantum field vacuum using a pair of impurity probers, which may also has potential implications for exploring the Lorentz-invariant violation in quantum field theory.

Quantum-classical correspondence in resonant and nonresonant Rabi-Stark model

Testing the correspondence principle in nonlinear quantum systems is a fundamental pursuit in quantum physics. In this paper, we employed mean field approximation theory to study the semiclassical dynamics in the Rabi-Stark model (RSM) and showed that the nonlinear Stark coupling significantly modulates the semiclassical phase space structure. By analyzing the linear entanglement entropy of coherent states prepared in the classical chaotic and regular regions of the semiclassical phase space, we demonstrate that quantum-classical correspondence can be achieved in the RSM with large atom-light frequency ratios. While this correspondence fails in the resonant Rabi model because its truncated photon number is insufficient to approach the large quantum number limit, we discovered that in the resonant RSM when the nonlinear Stark coupling $U \to \pm 1$, the time-averaged linear entanglement entropy correlates strongly with the semiclassical phase space. In particular, when $U \to -1$, the truncated photon number in the resonant RSM is very close to that in the resonant Rabi model, but the time-averaged linear entanglement entropy still corresponds well with the semiclassical phase space. This result demonstrates that quantum-classical correspondence can be realized in the few-body resonant RSM.

Quasinormal modes of scalar, electromagnetic, and gravitational perturbations in slowly rotating Kalb-Ramond black holes

We investigate quasinormal modes (QNMs) of scalar, electromagnetic, and axial gravitational perturbations in slowly rotating Kalb-Ramond (KR) black holes, where an antisymmetric tensor field induces spontaneous Lorentz symmetry breaking. Working consistently to first order in the dimensionless spin parameter, we derive the corresponding master equations and compute the QNM spectrum using both the continued-fraction and matrix methods, finding excellent agreement. Lorentz violation modifies the oscillation and damping rates in a unified manner across all perturbative sectors: the real part of the QNM frequency increases monotonically with the Lorentz-violating parameter $\ell$, while the imaginary part becomes more negative. Axial gravitational modes exhibit the strongest response, revealing an intrinsic theoretical bound $\ell< 0.5$, beyond which the spectrum approaches an extremal behavior. Our results highlight the potential of gravitational-wave spectroscopy to probe Lorentz-violating signatures in KR gravity.

Dynamic shadow of a black hole with a self-interacting massive complex scalar hair

We investigate the dynamic shadows of a black hole with a self-interacting massive complex scalar hair. The complex scalar field ψevolves with time t, and its magnitude on the apparent horizon |ψ_{h}| starts from zero, undergoes a sharp rise followed by rapid oscillations, and eventually converges to a constant value. The variation in the photon sphere radius r_{ps} is similar to that of the magnitude |ψ_{h}|. Owing to the emergence of the complex scalar hair ψ, the apparent horizon radius r_{h} starts increasing sharply and then smoothly approaches a stable value eventually. The shadow radius R_{sh} of the black hole with an accretion disk increases with time t_{o} at the observer's position. In the absence of an accretion disk, the shadow radius R_{sh} is larger and also increases as t_{o} increases. Furthermore, we slice the dynamical spacetime into spacelike hypersurfaces for all time points t. For the case with an accretion disk, the variation in R_{sh} is similar to that in the apparent horizon r_{h}, because the inner edge of the accretion disk extends to the apparent horizon. In the absence of an accretion disk, the variation in R_{sh} is similar to that in the photon sphere radius r_{ps}, because the black hole shadow boundary is determined by the photon sphere. As the variation in r_{ps} is induced by ψ, it can be stated that the variation in the size of the shadow is similarly caused by the change in ψ. Regardless of the presence or absence of the accretion disk, the emergence of the complex scalar hair ψcauses the radius R_{sh} of the shadow to start changing. Moreover, we investigate the time delay Δt of lights propagating from light sources to the observer. These findings not only enrich the theoretical models of dynamic black hole shadows but also provide a foundation for testing black hole spacetime dynamics.

Complete quasinormal modes of Type-D black holes

Quasinormal mode (QNM) spectra of black holes exhibit two open problems [Conf. Proc. C 0405132, 145 (2004); CQG 26, 163001 (2009)]: (i) the discontinuity in highly damped QNMs between Schwarzschild and Kerr solutions as $a \to 0$, and (ii) the unexplained spectral proximity between QNMs and algebraically special (AS) frequencies, particularly the anomalous multiplet splitting for Kerr $\ell=2$, $m \geq 0$ modes. We develop a novel method to compute complete QNM spectra for Type-D black holes, solving both problems and establishing a mathematical framework for boundary value problems of dissipative systems. Using analytic continuation of radial eigenvalue equations, our method eliminates the dependence on auxiliary parameters in the connection formulas for confluent Heun solutions. This breakthrough overcomes the long-standing challenge of calculating QNMs that cross or lie on the negative imaginary axis (NIA). For Schwarzschild and Kerr spacetimes ($0 \leq {n} \leq 41$, $2 \leq \ell \leq 16$), we present complete spectra validated through scattering amplitudes with errors $<10^{-10}$. The results provide definitive solutions to both open problems: (i) The inability of conventional methods to compute QNMs crossing or residing on the NIA leads to apparent discontinuities in Kerr spectra as $a \to 0$. (ii) When a QNM exactly coincides with the AS frequency, an additional QNM (unconventional mode) appears nearby. For the Kerr case with $\ell=2$, overtone sequences from both unconventional and AS modes exhibit precisely $2\ell+1$ branches, without multiplets or supersymmetry breaking at AS frequencies. Our method confirms Leung's conjecture of high-$\ell$ unconventional mode deviations from the NIA through the first $\ell=3$ calculation. Moreover, this paradigm surpasses the state-of-the-art Cook's continued fraction and isomonodromic methods in computational efficiency.

Quasinormal Modes of a Massive Scalar Field in Slowly Rotating Einstein-Bumblebee Black Holes

In this study, we examine the impacts of black hole spin, Lorentz-violating parameter, and the scalar field's mass on quasinormal modes (QNMs) of rotating Einstein-Bumblebee black holes, including computations up to the second-order expansion in rotation parameters. We investigate two classes of Lorentz-violating rotating black holes: one constructed via the Newman-Janis algorithm and the other obtained by solving the field equations through a series expansion. Within the slow-rotation approximation framework, we derive the master equations governing a massive scalar field and compute the corresponding QNM frequencies numerically using both the continued fraction method and the matrix method. The numerical results indicate that the QNM frequencies exhibit increased sensitivity to negative $\ell$ variations, which reduces the influence of the field mass parameter $\tildeμ$. Meanwhile, the spectral "cube" of NJA black holes shows slight compression for $m>0$ with $ \ell>0 $ and expansion for $m<0$ with $ \ell>0 $ compared to another black holes, where $m$ is approximately proportional to the spin parameter at first order, while richer structures and lifted degeneracy emerge at second order.

Chaotic motion of particles around a dyonic Kerr-Newman black hole immersed in the Melvin-swirling universe

We employ the Poincaré section, fast Lyapunov indicator, recurrence analysis, bifurcation diagram and basins of attraction to investigate the dynamical behaviors of the motion of particles around a new dyonic Kerr-Newman black hole immersed in the Melvin-swirling universe presented in [A. Di Pinto, S. Klemm, and A. Viganò, J. High Energy Phys. {\bf 06}, 150 (2025)]. We note that the swirling parameter $j$ and magnetic field strength $B$ make the equations of motion for particles nonseparable, and confirm the presence of chaotic behavior in the motion in this dyonic Kerr-Newman-Melvin-swirling spacetime and its sub-cases by removing the conical singularities and removing both the conical singularities and the Dirac strings. We observe that both the number of chaotic orbits and the chaotic region increase with the increase of the parameters $j$ and $B$, but decrease as the electric charge $Q$, magnetic charge $H$ or spin parameter $a$ increases. Moreover, we find that the presence of $j$ changes the ranges of $B$, $Q$, $H$ and $a$ where the chaotic motion appears for particles. The swirling parameter together with the magnetic field strength, electric charge, magnetic charge and spin parameter yields richer physics in the motion of particles for the spacetime of a dyonic Kerr-Newman black hole immersed in the Melvin-swirling universe.

Gravitational waves from equatorially eccentric extreme mass ratio inspirals around swirling Kerr black holes

The swirling-Kerr black hole is a novel solution of vacuum general relativity and has an extra swirling parameter characterizing the rotation of spacetime background. We have studied the gravitational waves generated by extreme mass ratio inspirals (EMRIs) along eccentric orbits on equatorial plane in this novel swirling spacetime. Our findings indicate that this swirling parameter leads to a delayed phase shift in the gravitational waveforms. Furthermore, we have investigated effects of the swirling parameter on the potential issue of waveform confusion caused by the orbital eccentricity and semi-latus rectum parameters. As the swirling parameter increases, the relative variations in the eccentricity increase, while the variations in the semi-latus rectum decrease rapidly. These trends of the changes related to the orbital eccentricity and the semi-latus rectum with the swirling parameter resemble those observed with the MOG parameter in the Scalar-Tensor-Vector-Gravity (STVG) theory, but with different rates of change. Furthermore, our results also reveal that effects of the background swirling parameter on the relative variations in the eccentricity and the semi-latus rectum are distinctly different from those of the black hole spin parameter. These results provide deeper insights into the properties of EMRI gravitational waves and the background's swirling.

Scalar perturbation around a rotating Kalb-Ramond BTZ black hole

We investigate the scalar perturbation of a newly proposed Kalb-Ramond (KR) BTZ-like black hole. After the separation of variables for the Klein-Gordon equation, we find that the radial part reduces to the general Heun equation. Using the Heun function, we compute quasinormal modes (QNMs) subject to generic Robin boundary conditions, which shows that the KR parameter substantially modifies the QNM spectrum and only the fundamental mode on the left branch has an instability. To ascertain whether the instability is superradiant, we further analyze how the KR field changes the energy and angular momentum fluxes. Our results show that the KR parameter shifts the threshold and the range of the Robin coupling parameter where the superradiance occurs, underscoring the importance of the KR field in modeling black hole perturbations.

Gravitational waveforms from periodic orbits around a charged black hole with scalar hair

We investigate geodesic motion and gravitational-wave signatures of charged black holes with scalar hair. Using the effective potential approach, we analyze marginally bound orbits and innermost stable circular orbits, showing how their positions and energy thresholds are modified by the scalar hair parameter $r_B$. These results demonstrate scalar hair's role in altering the boundary of stable motion. We further explore periodic orbits characterized by rational frequency ratios, labeled by the index $(z,w,v)$, and quantify how scalar hair affects their orbital energy and angular momentum. Based on these orbital properties, we compute gravitational waveforms from extreme mass-ratio inspirals where a stellar-mass compact object orbits a supermassive charged black hole with scalar hair. Using the numerical kludge method, we generate waveforms that exhibit clear zoom-whirl patterns with morphology visibly affected by $r_B$. Our results show that scalar hair leaves distinguishable imprints on waveforms, suggesting future space-based detectors could probe deviations from classical black hole spacetimes through extreme mass-ratio inspirals observations.
