A Tikhonov Regularization Based Algorithm for Scattered Data with Random Noise

With the rapid growth of data, how to extract effective information from data is one of the most fundamental problems. In this paper, based on Tikhonov regularization, we propose an effective method for reconstructing the function and its derivative from scattered data with random noise. Since the noise level is not assumed small, we will use the amount of data for reducing the random error, and use a relatively small number of knots for interpolation. An indicator function for our algorithm is constructed. It indicates where the numerical results are good or may not be good. The corresponding error estimates are obtained. We show how to choose the number of interpolation knots in the reconstruction process for balancing the random errors and interpolation errors. Numerical examples show the effectiveness and rapidity of our method. It should be remarked that the algorithm in this paper can be used for on-line data.

Extract the information from the big data with randomly distributed noise

In this manuscript, a purely data driven statistical regularization method is proposed for extracting the information from big data with randomly distributed noise. Since the variance of the noise maybe large, the method can be regarded as a general data preprocessing method in ill-posed problems, which is able to overcome the difficulty that the traditional regularization method unable to solve, and has superior advantage in computing efficiency. The unique solvability of the method is proved and a number of conditions are given to characterize the solution. The regularization parameter strategy is discussed and the rigorous upper bound estimation of confidence interval of the error in $L^2$ norm is established. Some numerical examples are provided to illustrate the appropriateness and effectiveness of the method.

The Reconstruction and Prediction Algorithm of the Fractional TDD for the Local Outbreak of COVID-19

From late December, 2019, the novel Corona-Virus began to spread in the mainland of China. For predicting the trend of the Corona Virus spread, several time delay dynamic systems (TDD) are proposed. In this paper, we establish a novel fractional time delay dynamic system (FTDD) to describe the local outbreak of COVID-19. The fractional derivative is introduced to account for the sub-diffusion process of the confirmed and cured peoples growth. Based on the public health data by the government, we propose a stable reconstruction algorithm of the coefficients. The reconstructed coefficients are used to predict the trend of the Corona-Virus. The numerical results are in good agreement with the public data.

A Time Delay Dynamical Model for Outbreak of 2019-nCoV and the Parameter Identification

In this paper, we propose a novel dynamical system with time delay to describe the outbreak of 2019-nCoV in China. One typical feature of this epidemic is that it can spread in latent period, which is therefore described by the time delay process in the differential equations. The accumulated numbers of classified populations are employed as variables, which is consistent with the official data and facilitates the parameter identification. The numerical methods for the prediction of outbreak of 2019-nCoV and parameter identification are provided, and the numerical results show that the novel dynamic system can well predict the outbreak trend so far. Based on the numerical simulations, we suggest that the transmission of individuals should be greatly controlled with high isolation rate by the government.

A Time Delay Dynamic System with External Source for the Local Outbreak of 2019-nCoV

How to model the 2019 CoronaVirus (2019-nCov) spread in China is one of the most urgent and interesting problems in applied mathematics. In this paper, we propose a novel time delay dynamic system with external source to describe the trend of local outbreak for the 2019-nCoV. The external source is introduced in the newly proposed dynamic system, which can be considered as the suspected people travel to different areas. The numerical simulations exhibit the dynamic system with the external source is more reliable than the one without it, and the rate of isolation is extremely important for controlling the increase of cumulative confirmed people of 2019-nCoV. Based on our numerical simulation results with the public data, we suggest that the local government should have some more strict measures to maintain the rate of isolation. Otherwise the local cumulative confirmed people of 2019-nCoV might be out of control.

Unique continuation property with partial information for two-dimensional anisotropic elasticity systems

In this paper, we establish a novel unique continuation property for two-dimensional anisotropic elasticity systems with partial information. More precisely, given a homogeneous elasticity system in a domain, we investigate the unique continuation by assuming only the vanishing of one component of the solution in a subdomain. Using the corresponding Riemann function, we prove that the solution vanishes in the whole domain provided that the other component vanishes at one point up to its second derivatives. Further, we construct several examples showing the possibility of further reducing the additional information of the other component. This result possesses remarkable significance in both theoretical and practical aspects because the required data is almost halved for the unique determination of the whole solution.

Numerical Method for Parameter Inference of Nonlinear ODEs with Partial Observations

Parameter inference of dynamical systems is a challenging task faced by many researchers and practitioners across various fields. In many applications, it is common that only limited variables are observable. In this paper, we propose a method for parameter inference of a system of nonlinear coupled ODEs with partial observations. Our method combines fast Gaussian process based gradient matching (FGPGM) and deterministic optimization algorithms. By using initial values obtained by Bayesian steps with low sampling numbers, our deterministic optimization algorithm is both accurate and efficient.

Uniqueness of determining the variable fractional order in variable-order time-fractional diffusion equations

We study an initial-boundary value problem of variable-order time-fractional diffusion equations in one space dimension. Based on the wellposedness of the proposed model and the smoothing properties of its solutions, which are shown to be determined by the behavior of the variable order at the initial time, a uniqueness result for an important inverse problem of determination of the variable order in the time-fractional derivative contained in the proposed model from observations of its solutions is obtained.

An inverse conductivity problem in multifrequency electric impedance tomography

We deal with the problem of determining the shape of an inclusion embedded in a homogenous background medium. The multifre-quency electrical impedance tomography is used to image the inclusion. For different frequencies, a current is injected at the boundary and the resulting potential is measured. It turns out that the potential solves an elliptic equation in divergence form with discontinuous leading coefficient. For this inverse problem we aim to establish a logarithmic type stability estimate. The key point in our analysis consists in reducing the original problem to that of determining an unknown part of the inner boundary from a single boundary measurment. The stability estimate is then used to prove uniqueness results. We also provide an expansion of the solution of the BVP under consideration in the eigenfunction basis of the Neumann-Poincar{é} operator associated to the Neumann-Green function.

Tikhonov regularization with l^0-term complementing a convex penalty: l^1 convergence under sparsity constraints

Measuring the error by an l^1-norm, we analyze under sparsity assumptions an l^0-regularization approach, where the penalty in the Tikhonov functional is complemented by a general stabilizing convex functional. In this context, ill-posed operator equations Ax = y with an injective and bounded linear operator A mapping between l^2 and a Banach space Y are regularized. For sparse solutions, error estimates as well as linear and sublinear convergence rates are derived based on a variational inequality approach, where the regularization parameter can be chosen either a priori in an appropriate way or a posteriori by the sequential discrepancy principle. To further illustrate the balance between the l^0-term and the complementing convex penalty, the important special case of the l^2-norm square penalty is investigated showing explicit dependence between both terms. Finally, some numerical experiments verify and illustrate the sparsity promoting properties of corresponding regularized solutions.

Degenerate quantum general linear groups

Given any pair of positive integers m and n, we construct a new Hopf algebra, which may be regarded as a degenerate version of the quantum group of gl(m+n). We study its structure and develop a highest weight representation theory. The finite dimensional simple modules are classified in terms of highest weights, which are essentially characterised by m+n-2 nonnegative integers and two arbitrary nonzero scalars. In the special case with m=2 and n=1, an explicit basis is constructed for each finite dimensional simple module. For all m and n, the degenerate quantum group has a natural irreducible representation acting on C(q)^(m+n). It admits an R-matrix that satisfies the Yang-Baxter equation and intertwines the co-multiplication and its opposite. This in particular gives rise to isomorphisms between the two module structures of any tensor power of C(q)^(m+n) defined relative to the co-multiplication and its opposite respectively. A topological invariant of knots is constructed from this R-matrix, which reproduces the celebrated HOMFLY polynomial. Degenerate quantum groups of other classical types are briefly discussed.

Second homology of generalized periplectic Lie superalgebras

Let $(R,{}^-)$ be an arbitrary unital associative superalgebra with superinvolution over a commutative ring $\Bbbk$ with $2$ invertible. The second homology of the generalized periplectic Lie superalgebra $\mathfrak{p}_m(R,{}^-)$ for $m\geqslant3$ has been completely determined via an explicit construction of its universal central extension. In particular, this second homology could be identified with the first $\mathbb{Z}/2\mathbb{Z}$-graded dihedral homology of $R$ with certain superinvolution whenever $m\geqslant 5$.

New Epitaxial Thin Film Models and numerical approximation

This paper concerns new continuum phenomenological model for epitaxial thin film growth with three different forms of the Ehrlich-Schwoebel current. Two of these forms were first proposed by Politi and Villain [1996] and then studied by Evans, Thiel and Bartelt [2006]. The other one is completely new. Following the techniques used in Li and Liu [2003], we present rigorous analysis of the well-posedness, regularity and time stability for the new model. We also studied both the global and the local behavior of the surface roughness in the growth process. The new model differs from other known models in that it features a linear convex part and a nonlinear concave part, and thus by using a convex-concave time splitting scheme, one can naturally build unconditionally stable semi-implicit numerical discretizations with linear implicit parts, which is much easier to implement than conventional models requiring nonlinear implicit parts. Despite this fundamental difference in the model, numerical experiments show that the nonlinear morphological instability of the new model agrees well with results of other models published in Li and Liu [2003], which indicates that the new model correctly captures the essential morphological states in the thin film growth process.
