Deterministic generation of skyrmions and antiskyrmions by electric current

Magnetic skyrmions are nanoscale spin whirlpools that promise breakthroughs in future spintronic applications. Controlled generation of magnetic skyrmions by electric current is crucial for this purpose. While previous studies have demonstrated this operation, the topological charge of the generated skyrmions is determined by the direction of the external magnetic fields, thus is fixed. Here, we report the current-induced skyrmions creation in a chiral magnet FeGe nanostructure by using the \emph{in-situ} Lorentz transmission electron microscopy. We show that magnetic skyrmions or antiskyrmions can be both transferred from the magnetic helical ground state simply by controlling the direction of the current flow at zero magnetic field. The force analysis and symmetry consideration, backed up by micromagnetic simulations, well explain the experimental results, where magnetic skyrmions or antiskyrmions are created due to the edge instability of the helical state in the presence of spin transfer torque. The on-demand generation of skyrmions and control of their topology by electric current without the need of magnetic field will enable novel purely electric-controlled skyrmion devices.

Magnetic Skyrmion Bundles and Their Current-Driven Dynamics

Quantization of topological charges determines the various topological spin textures that are expected to play a key role in future spintronic devices. While the magnetic skyrmion with a unit topological charge Q has been extensively studied, spin textures with other integer valued have not been verified well so far. Here, we report the real-space image, creation, and manipulation of a type of multi Q three-dimensional skyrmionic texture, where a circular spin spiral ties a bunch of skyrmion tubes. We define these objects as skyrmion bundles, and show they have arbitrarily integer values Q from negative up to at least 55 in our experiment. These textures behave as quasiparticles in dynamics for the collective motions driven by electric pulses. Similar to the skyrmion, skyrmion bundles with non zero Q exhibit the skyrmion Hall effects with a Hall angle of 62 degree. Of particular interest, the skyrmion bundle with Q = 0 propagates collinearly with respect to the current flow without the skyrmion Hall effect. Our results open a new perspective for possible applications of multi Q magnetic objects in future spintronic devices.

Tracking by Joint Local and Global Search: A Target-aware Attention based Approach

Tracking-by-detection is a very popular framework for single object tracking which attempts to search the target object within a local search window for each frame. Although such local search mechanism works well on simple videos, however, it makes the trackers sensitive to extremely challenging scenarios, such as heavy occlusion and fast motion. In this paper, we propose a novel and general target-aware attention mechanism (termed TANet) and integrate it with tracking-by-detection framework to conduct joint local and global search for robust tracking. Specifically, we extract the features of target object patch and continuous video frames, then we concatenate and feed them into a decoder network to generate target-aware global attention maps. More importantly, we resort to adversarial training for better attention prediction. The appearance and motion discriminator networks are designed to ensure its consistency in spatial and temporal views. In the tracking procedure, we integrate the target-aware attention with multiple trackers by exploring candidate search regions for robust tracking. Extensive experiments on both short-term and long-term tracking benchmark datasets all validated the effectiveness of our algorithm. RGBT Tracking via Multi-Adapter Network with Hierarchical Divergence Loss

RGBT tracking has attracted increasing attention since RGB and thermal infrared data have strong complementary advantages, which could make trackers all-day and all-weather work. However, how to effectively represent RGBT data for visual tracking remains unstudied well. Existing works usually focus on extracting modality-shared or modality-specific information, but the potentials of these two cues are not well explored and exploited in RGBT tracking. In this paper, we propose a novel multi-adapter network to jointly perform modality-shared, modality-specific and instance-aware target representation learning for RGBT tracking. To this end, we design three kinds of adapters within an end-to-end deep learning framework. In specific, we use the modified VGG-M as the generality adapter to extract the modality-shared target representations. To extract the modality-specific features while reducing the computational complexity, we design a modality adapter, which adds a small block to the generality adapter in each layer and each modality in a parallel manner. Such a design could learn multilevel modality-specific representations with a modest number of parameters as the vast majority of parameters are shared with the generality adapter. We also design instance adapter to capture the appearance properties and temporal variations of a certain target. Moreover, to enhance the shared and specific features, we employ the loss of multiple kernel maximum mean discrepancy to measure the distribution divergence of different modal features and integrate it into each layer for more robust representation learning. Extensive experiments on two RGBT tracking benchmark datasets demonstrate the outstanding performance of the proposed tracker against the state-of-the-art methods.

Multi-interactive Dual-decoder for RGB-thermal Salient Object Detection

RGB-thermal salient object detection (SOD) aims to segment the common prominent regions of visible image and corresponding thermal infrared image that we call it RGBT SOD. Existing methods don't fully explore and exploit the potentials of complementarity of different modalities and multi-type cues of image contents, which play a vital role in achieving accurate results. In this paper, we propose a multi-interactive dual-decoder to mine and model the multi-type interactions for accurate RGBT SOD. In specific, we first encode two modalities into multi-level multi-modal feature representations. Then, we design a novel dual-decoder to conduct the interactions of multi-level features, two modalities and global contexts. With these interactions, our method works well in diversely challenging scenarios even in the presence of invalid modality. Finally, we carry out extensive experiments on public RGBT and RGBD SOD datasets, and the results show that the proposed method achieves the outstanding performance against state-of-the-art algorithms. The source code has been released at:https://github.com/lz118/Multi-interactive-Dual-decoder.

Temporal Consistency Two-Stream CNN for Human Motion Prediction

Fusion is critical for a two-stream network. In this paper, we propose a novel temporal fusion (TF) module to fuse the two-stream joints' information to predict human motion, including a temporal concatenation and a reinforcement trajectory spatial-temporal (TST) block, specifically designed to keep prediction temporal consistency. In particular, the temporal concatenation keeps the temporal consistency of preliminary predictions from two streams. Meanwhile, the TST block improves the spatial-temporal feature coupling. However, the TF module can increase the temporal continuities between the first predicted pose and the given poses and between each predicted pose. The fusion is based on a two-stream network that consists of a dynamic velocity stream (V-Stream) and a static position stream (P-Stream) because we found that the joints' velocity information improves the short-term prediction, while the joints' position information is better at long-term prediction, and they are complementary in motion prediction. Finally, our approach achieves impressive results on three benchmark datasets, including H3.6M, CMU-Mocap, and 3DPW in both short-term and long-term predictions, confirming its effectiveness and efficiency.

Dynamic Attention guided Multi-Trajectory Analysis for Single Object Tracking

Most of the existing single object trackers track the target in a unitary local search window, making them particularly vulnerable to challenging factors such as heavy occlusions and out-of-view movements. Despite the attempts to further incorporate global search, prevailing mechanisms that cooperate local and global search are relatively static, thus are still sub-optimal for improving tracking performance. By further studying the local and global search results, we raise a question: can we allow more dynamics for cooperating both results? In this paper, we propose to introduce more dynamics by devising a dynamic attention-guided multi-trajectory tracking strategy. In particular, we construct dynamic appearance model that contains multiple target templates, each of which provides its own attention for locating the target in the new frame. Guided by different attention, we maintain diversified tracking results for the target to build multi-trajectory tracking history, allowing more candidates to represent the true target trajectory. After spanning the whole sequence, we introduce a multi-trajectory selection network to find the best trajectory that delivers improved tracking performance. Extensive experimental results show that our proposed tracking strategy achieves compelling performance on various large-scale tracking benchmarks. Reversible data hiding in encrypted images based on pixel prediction and multi-MSB planes rearrangement

Great concern has arisen in the field of reversible data hiding in encrypted images (RDHEI) due to the development of cloud storage and privacy protection. RDHEI is an effective technology that can embed additional data after image encryption, extract additional data error-free and reconstruct original images losslessly. In this paper, a high-capacity and fully reversible RDHEI method is proposed, which is based on pixel prediction and multi-MSB (most significant bit) planes rearrangement. First, the median edge detector (MED) predictor is used to calculate the predicted value. Next, unlike previous methods, in our proposed method, signs of prediction errors (PEs) are represented by one bit plane and absolute values of PEs are represented by other bit planes. Then, we divide bit planes into uniform blocks and non-uniform blocks, and rearrange these blocks. Finally, according to different pixel prediction schemes, different numbers of additional data are embedded adaptively. The experimental results prove that our method has higher embedding capacity compared with state-of-the-art RDHEI methods.

PICA: A Pixel Correlation-based Attentional Black-box Adversarial Attack

The studies on black-box adversarial attacks have become increasingly prevalent due to the intractable acquisition of the structural knowledge of deep neural networks (DNNs). However, the performance of emerging attacks is negatively impacted when fooling DNNs tailored for high-resolution images. One of the explanations is that these methods usually focus on attacking the entire image, regardless of its spatial semantic information, and thereby encounter the notorious curse of dimensionality. To this end, we propose a pixel correlation-based attentional black-box adversarial attack, termed as PICA. Firstly, we take only one of every two neighboring pixels in the salient region as the target by leveraging the attentional mechanism and pixel correlation of images, such that the dimension of the black-box attack reduces. After that, a general multiobjective evolutionary algorithm is employed to traverse the reduced pixels and generate perturbations that are imperceptible by the human vision. Extensive experimental results have verified the effectiveness of the proposed PICA on the ImageNet dataset. More importantly, PICA is computationally more efficient to generate high-resolution adversarial examples compared with the existing black-box attacks.

Image Enhancement using Fuzzy Intensity Measure and Adaptive Clipping Histogram Equalization

Image enhancement aims at processing an input image so that the visual content of the output image is more pleasing or more useful for certain applications. Although histogram equalization is widely used in image enhancement due to its simplicity and effectiveness, it changes the mean brightness of the enhanced image and introduces a high level of noise and distortion. To address these problems, this paper proposes image enhancement using fuzzy intensity measure and adaptive clipping histogram equalization (FIMHE). FIMHE uses fuzzy intensity measure to first segment the histogram of the original image, and then clip the histogram adaptively in order to prevent excessive image enhancement. Experiments on the Berkeley database and CVF-UGR-Image database show that FIMHE outperforms state-of-the-art histogram equalization based methods.

All at Once: Temporally Adaptive Multi-Frame Interpolation with Advanced Motion Modeling

Recent advances in high refresh rate displays as well as the increased interest in high rate of slow motion and frame up-conversion fuel the demand for efficient and cost-effective multi-frame video interpolation solutions. To that regard, inserting multiple frames between consecutive video frames are of paramount importance for the consumer electronics industry. State-of-the-art methods are iterative solutions interpolating one frame at the time. They introduce temporal inconsistencies and clearly noticeable visual artifacts. Departing from the state-of-the-art, this work introduces a true multi-frame interpolator. It utilizes a pyramidal style network in the temporal domain to complete the multi-frame interpolation task in one-shot. A novel flow estimation procedure using a relaxed loss function, and an advanced, cubic-based, motion model is also used to further boost interpolation accuracy when complex motion segments are encountered. Results on the Adobe240 dataset show that the proposed method generates visually pleasing, temporally consistent frames, outperforms the current best off-the-shelf method by 1.57db in PSNR with 8 times smaller model and 7.7 times faster. The proposed method can be easily extended to interpolate a large number of new frames while remaining efficient because of the one-shot mechanism.

Viewpoint-aware Progressive Clustering for Unsupervised Vehicle Re-identification

Vehicle re-identification (Re-ID) is an active task due to its importance in large-scale intelligent monitoring in smart cities. Despite the rapid progress in recent years, most existing methods handle vehicle Re-ID task in a supervised manner, which is both time and labor-consuming and limits their application to real-life scenarios. Recently, unsupervised person Re-ID methods achieve impressive performance by exploring domain adaption or clustering-based techniques. However, one cannot directly generalize these methods to vehicle Re-ID since vehicle images present huge appearance variations in different viewpoints. To handle this problem, we propose a novel viewpoint-aware clustering algorithm for unsupervised vehicle Re-ID. In particular, we first divide the entire feature space into different subspaces according to the predicted viewpoints and then perform a progressive clustering to mine the accurate relationship among samples. Comprehensive experiments against the state-of-the-art methods on two multi-viewpoint benchmark datasets VeRi and VeRi-Wild validate the promising performance of the proposed method in both with and without domain adaption scenarios while handling unsupervised vehicle Re-ID.

Challenge-Aware RGBT Tracking

RGB and thermal source data suffer from both shared and specific challenges, and how to explore and exploit them plays a critical role to represent the target appearance in RGBT tracking. In this paper, we propose a novel challenge-aware neural network to handle the modality-shared challenges (e.g., fast motion, scale variation and occlusion) and the modality-specific ones (e.g., illumination variation and thermal crossover) for RGBT tracking. In particular, we design several parameter-shared branches in each layer to model the target appearance under the modality-shared challenges, and several parameterindependent branches under the modality-specific ones. Based on the observation that the modality-specific cues of different modalities usually contains the complementary advantages, we propose a guidance module to transfer discriminative features from one modality to another one, which could enhance the discriminative ability of some weak modality. Moreover, all branches are aggregated together in an adaptive manner and parallel embedded in the backbone network to efficiently form more discriminative target representations. These challenge-aware branches are able to model the target appearance under certain challenges so that the target representations can be learnt by a few parameters even in the situation of insufficient training data. From the experimental results we will show that our method operates at a real-time speed while performing well against the state-of-the-art methods on three benchmark datasets.

\emph{cm}SalGAN: RGB-D Salient Object Detection with Cross-View Generative Adversarial Networks

Image salient object detection (SOD) is an active research topic in computer vision and multimedia area. Fusing complementary information of RGB and depth has been demonstrated to be effective for image salient object detection which is known as RGB-D salient object detection problem. The main challenge for RGB-D salient object detection is how to exploit the salient cues of both intra-modality (RGB, depth) and cross-modality simultaneously which is known as cross-modality detection problem. In this paper, we tackle this challenge by designing a novel cross-modality Saliency Generative Adversarial Network (\emph{cm}SalGAN). \emph{cm}SalGAN aims to learn an optimal view-invariant and consistent pixel-level representation for RGB and depth images via a novel adversarial learning framework, which thus incorporates both information of intra-view and correlation information of cross-view images simultaneously for RGB-D saliency detection problem. To further improve the detection results, the attention mechanism and edge detection module are also incorporated into \emph{cm}SalGAN. The entire \emph{cm}SalGAN can be trained in an end-to-end manner by using the standard deep neural network framework. Experimental results show that \emph{cm}SalGAN achieves the new state-of-the-art RGB-D saliency detection performance on several benchmark datasets.

M$^5$L: Multi-Modal Multi-Margin Metric Learning for RGBT Tracking

Classifying the confusing samples in the course of RGBT tracking is a quite challenging problem, which hasn't got satisfied solution. Existing methods only focus on enlarging the boundary between positive and negative samples, however, the structured information of samples might be harmed, e.g., confusing positive samples are closer to the anchor than normal positive samples. To handle this problem, we propose a novel Multi-Modal Multi-Margin Metric Learning framework, named M$^5$L for RGBT tracking in this paper. In particular, we design a multi-margin structured loss to distinguish the confusing samples which play a most critical role in tracking performance boosting. To alleviate this problem, we additionally enlarge the boundaries between confusing positive samples and normal ones, between confusing negative samples and normal ones with predefined margins, by exploiting the structured information of all samples in each modality. Moreover, a cross-modality constraint is employed to reduce the difference between modalities and push positive samples closer to the anchor than negative ones from two modalities. In addition, to achieve quality-aware RGB and thermal feature fusion, we introduce the modality attentions and learn them using a feature fusion module in our network. Extensive experiments on large-scale datasets testify that our framework clearly improves the tracking performance and outperforms the state-of-the-art RGBT trackers.

FMT:Fusing Multi-task Convolutional Neural Network for Person Search

Person search is to detect all persons and identify the query persons from detected persons in the image without proposals and bounding boxes, which is different from person re-identification. In this paper, we propose a fusing multi-task convolutional neural network(FMT-CNN) to tackle the correlation and heterogeneity of detection and re-identification with a single convolutional neural network. We focus on how the interplay of person detection and person re-identification affects the overall performance. We employ person labels in region proposal network to produce features for person re-identification and person detection network, which can improve the accuracy of detection and re-identification simultaneously. We also use a multiple loss to train our re-identification network. Experiment results on CUHK-SYSU Person Search dataset show that the performance of our proposed method is superior to state-of-the-art approaches in both mAP and top-1.

An Improved Reversible Data Hiding in Encrypted Images using Parametric Binary Tree Labeling

This work proposes an improved reversible data hiding scheme in encrypted images using parametric binary tree labeling(IPBTL-RDHEI), which takes advantage of the spatial correlation in the entire original image but not in small image blocks to reserve room for hiding data. Then the original image is encrypted with an encryption key and the parametric binary tree is used to label encrypted pixels into two different categories. Finally, one of the two categories of encrypted pixels can embed secret information by bit replacement. According to the experimental results, compared with several state-of-the-art methods, the proposed IPBTL-RDHEI method achieves higher embedding rate and outperforms the competitors. Due to the reversibility of IPBTL-RDHEI, the original plaintext image and the secret information can be restored and extracted losslessly and separately.

AttKGCN: Attribute Knowledge Graph Convolutional Network for Person Re-identification

Discriminative feature representation of person image is important for person re-identification (Re-ID) task. Recently, attributes have been demonstrated beneficially in guiding for learning more discriminative feature representations for Re-ID. As attributes normally co-occur in person images, it is desirable to model the attribute dependencies to improve the attribute prediction and thus Re-ID results. In this paper, we propose to model these attribute dependencies via a novel attribute knowledge graph (AttKG), and propose a novel Attribute Knowledge Graph Convolutional Network (AttKGCN) to solve Re-ID problem. AttKGCN integrates both attribute prediction and Re-ID learning together in a unified end-to-end framework which can boost their performances, respectively. AttKGCN first builds a directed attribute KG whose nodes denote attributes and edges encode the co-occurrence relationships of different attributes. Then, AttKGCN learns a set of inter-dependent attribute classifiers which are combined with person visual descriptors for attribute prediction. Finally, AttKGCN integrates attribute description and deeply visual representation together to construct a more discriminative feature representation for Re-ID task. Extensive experiments on several benchmark datasets demonstrate the effectiveness of AttKGCN on attribute prediction and Re-ID tasks.
