A Distributed Scalable Cross-chain State Channel Scheme Based on Recursive State Synchronization

As cross-chain technology continues to advance, the scale of cross-chain transactions is experiencing significant expansion. To improve scalability, researchers have turned to the study of cross-chain state channels. However, most of the existing schemes rely on trusted parties to support channel operations. To address this issue, we present Interpipe: a distributed cross-chain state channel scheme. Specifically, we propose a real-time cross-chain synchronization scheme to ensure consistent operations between two blockchains to a cross-chain state channel. Moreover, we propose a batch transaction proof scheme based on recursive SNARK to meet the cross-chain verification needs of large-scale users. Based on the above designs, Interpipe offers protocols for opening, updating, closing, and disputing operations to cross-chain state channels. Security analysis shows that Interpipe has consistency and resistance, and experimental results demonstrate that a cross-chain state channel can be nearly as efficient as an existing intra-chain state channel.

Towards Independence Criterion in Machine Unlearning of Features and Labels

This work delves into the complexities of machine unlearning in the face of distributional shifts, particularly focusing on the challenges posed by non-uniform feature and label removal. With the advent of regulations like the GDPR emphasizing data privacy and the right to be forgotten, machine learning models face the daunting task of unlearning sensitive information without compromising their integrity or performance. Our research introduces a novel approach that leverages influence functions and principles of distributional independence to address these challenges. By proposing a comprehensive framework for machine unlearning, we aim to ensure privacy protection while maintaining model performance and adaptability across varying distributions. Our method not only facilitates efficient data removal but also dynamically adjusts the model to preserve its generalization capabilities. Through extensive experimentation, we demonstrate the efficacy of our approach in scenarios characterized by significant distributional shifts, making substantial contributions to the field of machine unlearning. This research paves the way for developing more resilient and adaptable unlearning techniques, ensuring models remain robust and accurate in the dynamic landscape of data privacy and machine learning.

Human Activity Recognition with Low-Resolution Infrared Array Sensor Using Semi-supervised Cross-domain Neural Networks for Indoor Environment

Low-resolution infrared-based human activity recognition (HAR) attracted enormous interests due to its low-cost and private. In this paper, a novel semi-supervised crossdomain neural network (SCDNN) based on 8 $\times$ 8 low-resolution infrared sensor is proposed for accurately identifying human activity despite changes in the environment at a low-cost. The SCDNN consists of feature extractor, domain discriminator and label classifier. In the feature extractor, the unlabeled and minimal labeled target domain data are trained for domain adaptation to achieve a mapping of the source domain and target domain data. The domain discriminator employs the unsupervised learning to migrate data from the source domain to the target domain. The label classifier obtained from training the source domain data improves the recognition of target domain activities due to the semi-supervised learning utilized in training the target domain data. Experimental results show that the proposed method achieves 92.12\% accuracy for recognition of activities in the target domain by migrating the source and target domains. The proposed approach adapts superior to cross-domain scenarios compared to the existing deep learning methods, and it provides a low-cost yet highly adaptable solution for cross-domain scenarios.

PowerSkel: A Device-Free Framework Using CSI Signal for Human Skeleton Estimation in Power Station

Safety monitoring of power operations in power stations is crucial for preventing accidents and ensuring stable power supply. However, conventional methods such as wearable devices and video surveillance have limitations such as high cost, dependence on light, and visual blind spots. WiFi-based human pose estimation is a suitable method for monitoring power operations due to its low cost, device-free, and robustness to various illumination conditions. In this paper, a novel Channel State Information (CSI)-based pose estimation framework, namely PowerSkel, is developed to address these challenges. PowerSkel utilizes self-developed CSI sensors to form a mutual sensing network and constructs a CSI acquisition scheme specialized for power scenarios. It significantly reduces the deployment cost and complexity compared to the existing solutions. To reduce interference with CSI in the electricity scenario, a sparse adaptive filtering algorithm is designed to preprocess the CSI. CKDformer, a knowledge distillation network based on collaborative learning and self-attention, is proposed to extract the features from CSI and establish the mapping relationship between CSI and keypoints. The experiments are conducted in a real-world power station, and the results show that the PowerSkel achieves high performance with a PCK@50 of 96.27%, and realizes a significant visualization on pose estimation, even in dark environments. Our work provides a novel low-cost and high-precision pose estimation solution for power operation.

Multi-kink brane in Gauss-Bonnet gravity and its stability

Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet gravity in high dimensional spacetime is intriguing. Here, the properties of thick branes generated by a bulk scalar field in the five-dimensional Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet gravity were studied. With the help of the superpotential method, we obtain a series of multi-kink brane solutions. We also analyze the linear stability of the brane system under tensor perturbations and prove that they are stable. The massless graviton is shown to be localized near the brane and hence the four-dimensional Newtonian potential can be recovered. By comparing the properties of these thick branes under different superpotentials we find with some specific choice of superpotential the Gauss-Bonnet term can determine the scalar field are multi-kink or single kink.

Crafting a Good Prompt or Providing Exemplary Dialogues? A Study of In-Context Learning for Persona-based Dialogue Generation

Previous in-context learning (ICL) research has focused on tasks such as classification, machine translation, text2table, etc., while studies on whether ICL can improve human-like dialogue generation are scarce. Our work fills this gap by systematically investigating the ICL capabilities of large language models (LLMs) in persona-based dialogue generation, conducting extensive experiments on high-quality real human Chinese dialogue datasets. From experimental results, we draw three conclusions: 1) adjusting prompt instructions is the most direct, effective, and economical way to improve generation quality; 2) randomly retrieving demonstrations (demos) achieves the best results, possibly due to the greater diversity and the amount of effective information; counter-intuitively, retrieving demos with a context identical to the query performs the worst; 3) even when we destroy the multi-turn associations and single-turn semantics in the demos, increasing the number of demos still improves dialogue performance, proving that LLMs can learn from corrupted dialogue demos. Previous explanations of the ICL mechanism, such as $n$-gram induction head, cannot fully account for this phenomenon.

Investigation of double-gyroid grain boundaries beyond twinning

We study four double-gyroid (DG) grain boundaries (GBs) with different orientations numerically using the Landau--Brazovskii free energy, including the (422) twin boundary studied recently, a network switching GB, and two tilt GBs. Topological variations and geometric deformations are investigated. It is found that deviations in strut lengths and dihedral angles from the bulk DG substantially exceed changes in strut angles and nodal coplanarity. We also examine the spectra along the contact plane of two grains and utilize them to evaluate the GB widths. Of the four GBs we study, the network switching GB changes to the least extent topologically and geometrically, meanwhile has the lowest energy and the smallest GB width.

Wavelet-Decoupling Contrastive Enhancement Network for Fine-Grained Skeleton-Based Action Recognition

Skeleton-based action recognition has attracted much attention, benefiting from its succinctness and robustness. However, the minimal inter-class variation in similar action sequences often leads to confusion. The inherent spatiotemporal coupling characteristics make it challenging to mine the subtle differences in joint motion trajectories, which is critical for distinguishing confusing fine-grained actions. To alleviate this problem, we propose a Wavelet-Attention Decoupling (WAD) module that utilizes discrete wavelet transform to effectively disentangle salient and subtle motion features in the time-frequency domain. Then, the decoupling attention adaptively recalibrates their temporal responses. To further amplify the discrepancies in these subtle motion features, we propose a Fine-grained Contrastive Enhancement (FCE) module to enhance attention towards trajectory features by contrastive learning. Extensive experiments are conducted on the coarse-grained dataset NTU RGB+D and the fine-grained dataset FineGYM. Our methods perform competitively compared to state-of-the-art methods and can discriminate confusing fine-grained actions well.

CodeKGC: Code Language Model for Generative Knowledge Graph Construction

Current generative knowledge graph construction approaches usually fail to capture structural knowledge by simply flattening natural language into serialized texts or a specification language. However, large generative language model trained on structured data such as code has demonstrated impressive capability in understanding natural language for structural prediction and reasoning tasks. Intuitively, we address the task of generative knowledge graph construction with code language model: given a code-format natural language input, the target is to generate triples which can be represented as code completion tasks. Specifically, we develop schema-aware prompts that effectively utilize the semantic structure within the knowledge graph. As code inherently possesses structure, such as class and function definitions, it serves as a useful model for prior semantic structural knowledge. Furthermore, we employ a rationale-enhanced generation method to boost the performance. Rationales provide intermediate steps, thereby improving knowledge extraction abilities. Experimental results indicate that the proposed approach can obtain better performance on benchmark datasets compared with baselines. Code and datasets are available in https://github.com/zjunlp/DeepKE/tree/main/example/llm.

A DenseNet-based method for decoding auditory spatial attention with EEG

Auditory spatial attention detection (ASAD) aims to decode the attended spatial location with EEG in a multiple-speaker setting. ASAD methods are inspired by the brain lateralization of cortical neural responses during the processing of auditory spatial attention, and show promising performance for the task of auditory attention decoding (AAD) with neural recordings. In the previous ASAD methods, the spatial distribution of EEG electrodes is not fully exploited, which may limit the performance of these methods. In the present work, by transforming the original EEG channels into a two-dimensional (2D) spatial topological map, the EEG data is transformed into a three-dimensional (3D) arrangement containing spatial-temporal information. And then a 3D deep convolutional neural network (DenseNet-3D) is used to extract temporal and spatial features of the neural representation for the attended locations. The results show that the proposed method achieves higher decoding accuracy than the state-of-the-art (SOTA) method (94.3% compared to XANet's 90.6%) with 1-second decision window for the widely used KULeuven (KUL) dataset, and the code to implement our work is available on Github: https://github.com/xuxiran/ASAD_DenseNet

Imagining density distribution of molecular orbitals in IR+XUV co-rotating circular laser fields by frequency-domain theory

We have investigated the angle-resolved ATI spectrum of oriented molecules in the IR+XUV co-rotating circular laser fields. According to the different roles of IR and XUV laser in the ionization process, we purposefully adjust the photon energy of XUV and the intensity of IR laser to make the ionization spectrum of the molecule distributed in a suitable momentum region. Moreover, under the same laser conditions, the background fringes in the ionization spectrum of the molecule can be removed by using the ionization spectrum of the atom with the same ionization energy as the molecule, so that the molecular orbital density distribution in the suitable momentum region can be obtained. That is, for any unknown molecule, as long as the ionization energy of the molecule can be measured, the density distribution of the molecular orbital can be imaged in a definite momentum region by adjusting the laser field conditions, which may shed light on the experimental detection of molecular orbitals.

ConvConcatNet: a deep convolutional neural network to reconstruct mel spectrogram from the EEG

To investigate the processing of speech in the brain, simple linear models are commonly used to establish a relationship between brain signals and speech features. However, these linear models are ill-equipped to model a highly dynamic and complex non-linear system like the brain. Although non-linear methods with neural networks have been developed recently, reconstructing unseen stimuli from unseen subjects' EEG is still a highly challenging task. This work presents a novel method, ConvConcatNet, to reconstruct mel-specgrams from EEG, in which the deep convolution neural network and extensive concatenation operation were combined. With our ConvConcatNet model, the Pearson correlation between the reconstructed and the target mel-spectrogram can achieve 0.0420, which was ranked as No.1 in the Task 2 of the Auditory EEG Challenge. The codes and models to implement our work will be available on Github: https://github.com/xuxiran/ConvConcatNet

The (Bi2)m(Bi2Te3)n homologous series possess natural multilayer heterostructure with intriguing physical properties at ambient pressure. Herein, we report the pressure-dependent evolution of the structure and electrical transport of the dual topological insulator BiTe, a member of the (Bi2)m(Bi2Te3)n series. With applied pressure, BiTe exhibits several different crystal structures and distinct superconducting states, which is remarkably similar to other members of the (Bi2)m(Bi2Te3)n series. Relphormer: Relational Graph Transformer for Knowledge Graph Representations

Transformers have achieved remarkable performance in widespread fields, including natural language processing, computer vision and graph mining. However, vanilla Transformer architectures have not yielded promising improvements in the Knowledge Graph (KG) representations, where the translational distance paradigm dominates this area. Note that vanilla Transformer architectures struggle to capture the intrinsically heterogeneous structural and semantic information of knowledge graphs. To this end, we propose a new variant of Transformer for knowledge graph representations dubbed Relphormer. Specifically, we introduce Triple2Seq which can dynamically sample contextualized sub-graph sequences as the input to alleviate the heterogeneity issue. We propose a novel structure-enhanced self-attention mechanism to encode the relational information and keep the semantic information within entities and relations. Moreover, we utilize masked knowledge modeling for general knowledge graph representation learning, which can be applied to various KG-based tasks including knowledge graph completion, question answering, and recommendation. Experimental results on six datasets show that Relphormer can obtain better performance compared with baselines. Code is available in https://github.com/zjunlp/Relphormer.

Controlling electron motion with attosecond precision by shaped femtosecond intense laser pulse

We propose the scheme of temporal double-slit interferometer to precisely measure the electric field of shaped intense femtosecond laser pulse directly, and apply it to control the electron tunneling wave packets in attosecond precision. By manipulating the spectra phase of the input femtosecond pulse in frequency domain, one single pulse is split into two sub-pulses whose waveform can be precisely controlled by adjusting the spectra phase. When the shaped pulse interacts with atoms, the two sub-pulses are analogous to the Young's double-slit in time domain. The interference pattern in the photoelectron momentum distribution can be used to precisely retrieve the peak electric field and the time delay between two sub-pulses. Based on the precise characterization of the shaped pulse, we demonstrate that the sub-cycle dynamics of electron can be controlled with attosecond precision. The above scheme is proved to be feasible by both quantum-trajectory Monte Carlo simulations and numerical solutions of three-dimensional time-dependent Schrödinger equation.

Calibrating the effective magnitudes of type Ia supernovae with a model-independent method

This research explores the correlation between the absolute magnitude and the redshift of Type Ia supernovae (SNe Ia) with a model-independent approach. The Pantheon sample of SNe Ia and strong gravitational lensing systems (SGLS) are used. With the cosmic distance-duality relation (CDDR), the evolution parameter of the magnitude, the light curve parameters of SNe Ia, and the parameters of the SGLS geometric model are constrained simultaneously. Considering the consistency of the redshifts, we selected a subsample of SNe Ia in which the redshift of each SNe Ia is close to the corresponding redshift of the SGLS sample. Two parametric models are used to describe this evolution, which can be written as $δ_M=\varepsilon z$ and $δ_M=\varepsilon\log(1+z)$, respectively. Our analysis reveals that $\varepsilon=-0.036^{+0.357}_{-0.339}$ in the first parametric model and $\varepsilon=-0.014^{+0.588}_{-0.630}$ in the second model, indicating that no significant evolution ($\varepsilon=0$) is supported at the 1$σ$ confidence level in this study. These results represent a significant advancement in our understanding of the intrinsic properties of SNe Ia and provide important constraints for future SNe Ia study.
