Hunyuan3D 1.0: A Unified Framework for Text-to-3D and Image-to-3D Generation

While 3D generative models have greatly improved artists' workflows, the existing diffusion models for 3D generation suffer from slow generation and poor generalization. To address this issue, we propose a two-stage approach named Hunyuan3D 1.0 including a lite version and a standard version, that both support text- and image-conditioned generation. In the first stage, we employ a multi-view diffusion model that efficiently generates multi-view RGB in approximately 4 seconds. These multi-view images capture rich details of the 3D asset from different viewpoints, relaxing the tasks from single-view to multi-view reconstruction. In the second stage, we introduce a feed-forward reconstruction model that rapidly and faithfully reconstructs the 3D asset given the generated multi-view images in approximately 7 seconds. The reconstruction network learns to handle noises and in-consistency introduced by the multi-view diffusion and leverages the available information from the condition image to efficiently recover the 3D structure. Our framework involves the text-to-image model, i.e., Hunyuan-DiT, making it a unified framework to support both text- and image-conditioned 3D generation. Our standard version has 3x more parameters than our lite and other existing model. Our Hunyuan3D 1.0 achieves an impressive balance between speed and quality, significantly reducing generation time while maintaining the quality and diversity of the produced assets.

ThinTact:Thin Vision-Based Tactile Sensor by Lensless Imaging

Vision-based tactile sensors have drawn increasing interest in the robotics community. However, traditional lens-based designs impose minimum thickness constraints on these sensors, limiting their applicability in space-restricted settings. In this paper, we propose ThinTact, a novel lensless vision-based tactile sensor with a sensing field of over 200 mm2 and a thickness of less than 10 mm.ThinTact utilizes the mask-based lensless imaging technique to map the contact information to CMOS signals. To ensure real-time tactile sensing, we propose a real-time lensless reconstruction algorithm that leverages a frequency-spatial-domain joint filter based on discrete cosine transform (DCT). This algorithm achieves computation significantly faster than existing optimization-based methods. Additionally, to improve the sensing quality, we develop a mask optimization method based on the generic algorithm and the corresponding system matrix calibration algorithm. We evaluate the performance of our proposed lensless reconstruction and tactile sensing through qualitative and quantitative experiments. Furthermore, we demonstrate ThinTact's practical applicability in diverse applications, including texture recognition and contact-rich object manipulation. The paper will appear in the IEEE Transactions on Robotics: https://ieeexplore.ieee.org/document/10842357. Video: https://youtu.be/YrOO9BDMAHo

CoPRA: Bridging Cross-domain Pretrained Sequence Models with Complex Structures for Protein-RNA Binding Affinity Prediction

Accurately measuring protein-RNA binding affinity is crucial in many biological processes and drug design. Previous computational methods for protein-RNA binding affinity prediction rely on either sequence or structure features, unable to capture the binding mechanisms comprehensively. The recent emerging pre-trained language models trained on massive unsupervised sequences of protein and RNA have shown strong representation ability for various in-domain downstream tasks, including binding site prediction. However, applying different-domain language models collaboratively for complex-level tasks remains unexplored. In this paper, we propose CoPRA to bridge pre-trained language models from different biological domains via Complex structure for Protein-RNA binding Affinity prediction. We demonstrate for the first time that cross-biological modal language models can collaborate to improve binding affinity prediction. We propose a Co-Former to combine the cross-modal sequence and structure information and a bi-scope pre-training strategy for improving Co-Former's interaction understanding. Meanwhile, we build the largest protein-RNA binding affinity dataset PRA310 for performance evaluation. We also test our model on a public dataset for mutation effect prediction. CoPRA reaches state-of-the-art performance on all the datasets. We provide extensive analyses and verify that CoPRA can (1) accurately predict the protein-RNA binding affinity; (2) understand the binding affinity change caused by mutations; and (3) benefit from scaling data and model size.

Dual Mutual Learning Network with Global-local Awareness for RGB-D Salient Object Detection

RGB-D salient object detection (SOD), aiming to highlight prominent regions of a given scene by jointly modeling RGB and depth information, is one of the challenging pixel-level prediction tasks. Recently, the dual-attention mechanism has been devoted to this area due to its ability to strengthen the detection process. However, most existing methods directly fuse attentional cross-modality features under a manual-mandatory fusion paradigm without considering the inherent discrepancy between the RGB and depth, which may lead to a reduction in performance. Moreover, the long-range dependencies derived from global and local information make it difficult to leverage a unified efficient fusion strategy. Hence, in this paper, we propose the GL-DMNet, a novel dual mutual learning network with global-local awareness. Specifically, we present a position mutual fusion module and a channel mutual fusion module to exploit the interdependencies among different modalities in spatial and channel dimensions. Besides, we adopt an efficient decoder based on cascade transformer-infused reconstruction to integrate multi-level fusion features jointly. Extensive experiments on six benchmark datasets demonstrate that our proposed GL-DMNet performs better than 24 RGB-D SOD methods, achieving an average improvement of ~3% across four evaluation metrics compared to the second-best model (S3Net). Imperceptible Sample-Specific Backdoor to DNN with Denoising Autoencoder

The backdoor attack poses a new security threat to deep neural networks. Existing backdoor often relies on visible universal trigger to make the backdoored model malfunction, which are not only usually visually suspicious to human but also catchable by mainstream countermeasures. We propose an imperceptible sample-specific backdoor that the trigger varies from sample to sample and invisible. Our trigger generation is automated through a desnoising autoencoder that is fed with delicate but pervasive features (i.e., edge patterns per images). We extensively experiment our backdoor attack on ImageNet and MS-Celeb-1M, which demonstrates stable and nearly 100% (i.e., 99.8%) attack success rate with negligible impact on the clean data accuracy of the infected model. The denoising autoeconder based trigger generator is reusable or transferable across tasks (e.g., from ImageNet to MS-Celeb-1M), whilst the trigger has high exclusiveness (i.e., a trigger generated for one sample is not applicable to another sample). Besides, our proposed backdoored model has achieved high evasiveness against mainstream backdoor defenses such as Neural Cleanse, STRIP, SentiNet and Fine-Pruning.

Broadband Magnomechanics Enabled by Magnon-Spoof Plasmon Hybridization

Cavity magnomechanics is one important hybrid magnonic platform that focuses on the coherent interaction between magnons and phonons. The resulting magnon polarons inherit the intrinsic properties of both magnons and phonons, combining their individual advantages and enabling new physics and functionalities. But in previous demonstrations the magnon-phonon coupling either have limited bandwidth or cannot be efficiently accessed. In this work, we show that by utilizing the slow-wave hybrid magnonics configuration based on spoof surface plasmon polaritons (SSPPs), the coherent magnon-phonon interaction can be efficiently observed over a frequency range larger than 7 GHz on a YIG thin film device. In particular, the capability of the SSPPs in exciting short-wavelength magnons reveals a novel size effect when the magnons are coupled with high-over tone bulk acoustic resonances. Our work paves the way towards novel magnomechanical devices.

Skeleton-OOD: An End-to-End Skeleton-Based Model for Robust Out-of-Distribution Human Action Detection

Human action recognition is crucial in computer vision systems. However, in real-world scenarios, human actions often fall outside the distribution of training data, requiring a model to both recognize in-distribution (ID) actions and reject out-of-distribution (OOD) ones. Despite its importance, there has been limited research on OOD detection in human actions. Existing works on OOD detection mainly focus on image data with RGB structure, and many methods are post-hoc in nature. While these methods are convenient and computationally efficient, they often lack sufficient accuracy, fail to consider the exposure of OOD samples, and ignore the application in skeleton structure data. To address these challenges, we propose a novel end-to-end skeleton-based model called Skeleton-OOD, which is committed to improving the effectiveness of OOD tasks while ensuring the accuracy of ID recognition. Through extensive experiments conducted on NTU-RGB+D 60, NTU-RGB+D 120, and Kinetics-400 datasets, Skeleton-OOD demonstrates the superior performance of our proposed approach compared to state-of-the-art methods. Our findings underscore the effectiveness of classic OOD detection techniques in the context of skeleton-based action recognition tasks, offering promising avenues for future research in this field. Cryogenic hybrid magnonic circuits based on spalled YIG thin films

Yttrium iron garnet (YIG) magnonics has garnered significant research interest because of the unique properties of magnons (quasiparticles of collective spin excitation) for signal processing. In particular, hybrid systems based on YIG magnonics show great promise for quantum information science due to their broad frequency tunability and strong compatibility with other platforms. However, their broad applications have been severely constrained by substantial microwave loss in the gadolinium gallium garnet (GGG) substrate at cryogenic temperatures. In this study, we demonstrate that YIG thin films can be spalled from YIG/GGG samples. Our approach is validated by measuring hybrid devices comprising superconducting resonators and spalled YIG films, which exhibits anti-crossing features that indicate strong coupling between magnons and microwave photons. Such new capability of separating YIG thin films from GGG substrates via spalling, and the integrated superconductor-YIG devices represent a significant advancement for integrated magnonic devices, paving the way for advanced magnon-based coherent information processing.

Towards Context-aware Convolutional Network for Image Restoration

Image restoration (IR) is a long-standing task to recover a high-quality image from its corrupted observation. Recently, transformer-based algorithms and some attention-based convolutional neural networks (CNNs) have presented promising results on several IR tasks. However, existing convolutional residual building modules for IR encounter limited ability to map inputs into high-dimensional and non-linear feature spaces, and their local receptive fields have difficulty in capturing long-range context information like Transformer. Besides, CNN-based attention modules for IR either face static abundant parameters or have limited receptive fields. To address the first issue, we propose an efficient residual star module (ERSM) that includes context-aware "star operation" (element-wise multiplication) to contextually map features into exceedingly high-dimensional and non-linear feature spaces, which greatly enhances representation learning. To further boost the extraction of contextual information, as for the second issue, we propose a large dynamic integration module (LDIM) which possesses an extremely large receptive field. Thus, LDIM can dynamically and efficiently integrate more contextual information that helps to further significantly improve the reconstruction performance. Integrating ERSM and LDIM into an U-shaped backbone, we propose a context-aware convolutional network (CCNet) with powerful learning ability for contextual high-dimensional mapping and abundant contextual information. Extensive experiments show that our CCNet with low model complexity achieves superior performance compared to other state-of-the-art IR methods on several IR tasks, including image dehazing, image motion deblurring, and image desnowing.

More is Better (Mostly): On the Backdoor Attacks in Federated Graph Neural Networks

Graph Neural Networks (GNNs) are a class of deep learning-based methods for processing graph domain information. GNNs have recently become a widely used graph analysis method due to their superior ability to learn representations for complex graph data. However, due to privacy concerns and regulation restrictions, centralized GNNs can be difficult to apply to data-sensitive scenarios. Federated learning (FL) is an emerging technology developed for privacy-preserving settings when several parties need to train a shared global model collaboratively. Although several research works have applied FL to train GNNs (Federated GNNs), there is no research on their robustness to backdoor attacks. This paper bridges this gap by conducting two types of backdoor attacks in Federated GNNs: centralized backdoor attacks (CBA) and distributed backdoor attacks (DBA). Our experiments show that the DBA attack success rate is higher than CBA in almost all evaluated cases. For CBA, the attack success rate of all local triggers is similar to the global trigger even if the training set of the adversarial party is embedded with the global trigger. To further explore the properties of two backdoor attacks in Federated GNNs, we evaluate the attack performance for a different number of clients, trigger sizes, poisoning intensities, and trigger densities. Moreover, we explore the robustness of DBA and CBA against one defense. We find that both attacks are robust against the investigated defense, necessitating the need to consider backdoor attacks in Federated GNNs as a novel threat that requires custom defenses.

Li$_{14}$Mn$_{2}$S$_{9}$ and Li$_{10}$Si$_{2}$S$_{9}$ as a pair of all-electrochem-active electrode and solid-state electrolyte with chemical compatibility and low interface resistance

In solid-state batteries (SSBs), improving the physical contact at the electrode-electrolyte interface is essential for achieving better performance and durability. On the one hand, it is necessary to look for solid-state electrolytes (SSEs) with high ionic conductivity and no reaction with the electrode, on the other hand, to design the all-electrochem-active (AEA) electrodes that contain no SSEs and other non-active substances. In this work, we proposed a pair of AEA-electrode and SSE with the same structural framework and excellent interface compatibility, Li$_{14}$Mn$_{2}$S$_{9}$ and Li$_{10}$Si$_{2}$S$_{9}$, and confirmed the feasibility by ab-initio molecular dynamics (AIMD) simulations and machine learning interatomic potential based molecular dynamics (MLIP-based MD) simulations, providing a new approach to promote interfacial stability in SSBs.

Dynamic Pricing in Securities Lending Market: Application in Revenue Optimization for an Agent Lender Portfolio

Securities lending is an important part of the financial market structure, where agent lenders help long term institutional investors to lend out their securities to short sellers in exchange for a lending fee. Agent lenders within the market seek to optimize revenue by lending out securities at the highest rate possible. Typically, this rate is set by hard-coded business rules or standard supervised machine learning models. These approaches are often difficult to scale and are not adaptive to changing market conditions. Unlike a traditional stock exchange with a centralized limit order book, the securities lending market is organized similarly to an e-commerce marketplace, where agent lenders and borrowers can transact at any agreed price in a bilateral fashion. This similarity suggests that the use of typical methods for addressing dynamic pricing problems in e-commerce could be effective in the securities lending market. We show that existing contextual bandit frameworks can be successfully utilized in the securities lending market. Using offline evaluation on real historical data, we show that the contextual bandit approach can consistently outperform typical approaches by at least 15% in terms of total revenue generated.

PSFHS Challenge Report: Pubic Symphysis and Fetal Head Segmentation from Intrapartum Ultrasound Images

Segmentation of the fetal and maternal structures, particularly intrapartum ultrasound imaging as advocated by the International Society of Ultrasound in Obstetrics and Gynecology (ISUOG) for monitoring labor progression, is a crucial first step for quantitative diagnosis and clinical decision-making. This requires specialized analysis by obstetrics professionals, in a task that i) is highly time- and cost-consuming and ii) often yields inconsistent results. The utility of automatic segmentation algorithms for biometry has been proven, though existing results remain suboptimal. To push forward advancements in this area, the Grand Challenge on Pubic Symphysis-Fetal Head Segmentation (PSFHS) was held alongside the 26th International Conference on Medical Image Computing and Computer Assisted Intervention (MICCAI 2023). This challenge aimed to enhance the development of automatic segmentation algorithms at an international scale, providing the largest dataset to date with 5,101 intrapartum ultrasound images collected from two ultrasound machines across three hospitals from two institutions. The scientific community's enthusiastic participation led to the selection of the top 8 out of 179 entries from 193 registrants in the initial phase to proceed to the competition's second stage. These algorithms have elevated the state-of-the-art in automatic PSFHS from intrapartum ultrasound images. A thorough analysis of the results pinpointed ongoing challenges in the field and outlined recommendations for future work. The top solutions and the complete dataset remain publicly available, fostering further advancements in automatic segmentation and biometry for intrapartum ultrasound imaging.

GMISeg: General Medical Image Segmentation without Re-Training

Deep learning models have become the dominant method for medical image segmentation. However, they often struggle to be generalisable to unknown tasks involving new anatomical structures, labels, or shapes. In these cases, the model needs to be re-trained for the new tasks, posing a significant challenge for non-machine learning experts and requiring a considerable time investment. Here I developed a general model that can solve unknown medical image segmentation tasks without requiring additional training. Given an example set of images and visual prompts for defining new segmentation tasks, GMISeg (General Medical Image Segmentation) leverages a pre-trained image encoder based on ViT and applies a low-rank fine-tuning strategy to the prompt encoder and mask decoder to fine-tune the model without in an efficient manner. I evaluated the performance of the proposed method on medical image datasets with different imaging modalities and anatomical structures. The proposed method facilitated the deployment of pre-trained AI models to new segmentation works in a user-friendly way.

MS-Twins: Multi-Scale Deep Self-Attention Networks for Medical Image Segmentation

Although transformer is preferred in natural language processing, some studies has only been applied to the field of medical imaging in recent years. For its long-term dependency, the transformer is expected to contribute to unconventional convolution neural net conquer their inherent spatial induction bias. The lately suggested transformer-based segmentation method only uses the transformer as an auxiliary module to help encode the global context into a convolutional representation. How to optimally integrate self-attention with convolution has not been investigated in depth. To solve the problem, this paper proposes MS-Twins (Multi-Scale Twins), which is a powerful segmentation model on account of the bond of self-attention and convolution. MS-Twins can better capture semantic and fine-grained information by combining different scales and cascading features. Compared with the existing network structure, MS-Twins has made progress on the previous method based on the transformer of two in common use data sets, Synapse and ACDC. In particular, the performance of MS-Twins on Synapse is 8% higher than SwinUNet. Even compared with nnUNet, the best entirely convoluted medical image segmentation network, the performance of MS-Twins on Synapse and ACDC still has a bit advantage.

Large coordinate kernel attention network for lightweight image super-resolution

The multi-scale receptive field and large kernel attention (LKA) module have been shown to significantly improve performance in the lightweight image super-resolution task. However, existing lightweight super-resolution (SR) methods seldom pay attention to designing efficient building block with multi-scale receptive field for local modeling, and their LKA modules face a quadratic increase in computational and memory footprints as the convolutional kernel size increases. To address the first issue, we propose the multi-scale blueprint separable convolutions (MBSConv) as highly efficient building block with multi-scale receptive field, it can focus on the learning for the multi-scale information which is a vital component of discriminative representation. As for the second issue, we revisit the key properties of LKA in which we find that the adjacent direct interaction of local information and long-distance dependencies is crucial to provide remarkable performance. Thus, taking this into account and in order to mitigate the complexity of LKA, we propose a large coordinate kernel attention (LCKA) module which decomposes the 2D convolutional kernels of the depth-wise convolutional layers in LKA into horizontal and vertical 1-D kernels. LCKA enables the adjacent direct interaction of local information and long-distance dependencies not only in the horizontal direction but also in the vertical. Besides, LCKA allows for the direct use of extremely large kernels in the depth-wise convolutional layers to capture more contextual information, which helps to significantly improve the reconstruction performance, and it incurs lower computational complexity and memory footprints. Integrating MBSConv and LCKA, we propose a large coordinate kernel attention network (LCAN).
