Metrics Of Quantum States

In this paper, we study metrics of quantum states. These metrics are natural generalization of trace metric and Bures metric. We will prove that the metrics are joint convex and contractive under quantum operation. Our results can find important application in studying the geometry of quantum states and is useful to detect entanglement.

Proposed all-versus-nothing violation of local realism in the Kitaev spin-lattice model

We investigate the nonlocal property of the fractional statistics in Kitaev's toric code model. To this end, we construct the Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger paradox which builds a direct conflict between the statistics and local realism. It turns out that the fractional statistics in the model is purely a quantum effect and independent of any classical theory. We also discuss a feasible experimental scheme using anyonic interferometry to test this contradiction.

Bell inequality for qubits based on the Cauchy-Schwarz inequality

We develop a systematic approach to establish Bell inequalities for qubits based on the Cauchy-Schwarz inequality. We also use the concept of distinct "roots" of Bell function to classify some well-known Bell inequalities for qubits. As applications of the approach, we present three new and tight Bell inequalities for four and three qubits, respectively.

Tight Correlation-Function Bell Inequality for Multipartite $d$-Dimensional System

We generalize the correlation functions of the Clauser-Horne-Shimony-Holt (CHSH) inequality to multipartite d-dimensional systems. All the Bell inequalities based on this generalization take the same simple form as the CHSH inequality. For small systems, numerical results show that the new inequalities are tight and we believe this is also valid for higher dimensional systems. Moreover, the new inequalities are relevant to the previous ones and for bipartite system, our inequality is equivalent to the Collins-Gisin-Linden-Masser-Popescu (CGLMP) inequality.

Geometric interpretation for A-fidelity and its relation with Bures fidelity

A geometric interpretation for the A-fidelity between two states of a qubit system is presented, which leads to an upper bound of the Bures fidelity. The metrics defined based on the A-fidelity are studied by numerical method. An alternative generalization of the A-fidelity, which has the same geometric picture, to a $N$-state quantum system is also discussed.

Dynamical symmetries of two-dimensional systems in relativistic quantum mechanics

The two-dimensional Dirac Hamiltonian with equal scalar and vector potentials has been proved commuting with the deformed orbital angular momentum $L$. When the potential takes the Coulomb form, the system has an SO(3) symmetry, and similarly the harmonic oscillator potential possesses an SU(2) symmetry. The generators of the symmetric groups are derived for these two systems separately. The corresponding energy spectra are yielded naturally from the Casimir operators. Their non-relativistic limits are also discussed.

Dynamical symmetry of Dirac hydrogen atom with spin symmetry and its connection with Ginocchio's oscillator

The Dirac hydrogen atom with spin symmetry is shown has a SO(4) symmetry. The generators are derived, and the corresponding Casimir operator leads to the energy spectrum naturally. This type hydrogen atom is connected to a four-dimensional Dirac system with equal scalar and vector harmonic oscillator potential, by the Kustaanheimo-Stiefel transformation with a constraint.

Volume of Separable States for Arbitrary $N$-dimensional System

In a celebrated paper ([Phys. Rev. A 58, 883 (1998)]), K. Zyczkowski, P. Horodecki, A. Sanpera, and M. Lewenstein proved for the frst time a very interesting theorem that the volume of separable quantum states is nonzero. Inspired by their ideas, we obtain a general analytical lower bound of the volume of separable states (VOSS) for arbitrary N-dimensional system. Our results give quite simple and computable suffcient conditions for separability. Moreover, for bipartite system, an upper bound of the VOSS is also presented.

Maximal Quantum Violation of the CGLMP Inequality on Its Both Sides

We investigate the maximal violations for both sides of the $d$-dimensional CGLMP inequality by using the Bell operator method. It turns out that the maximal violations have a decelerating increase as the dimension increases and tend to a finite value at infinity. The numerical values are given out up to $d=10^6$ for positively maximal violations and $d=2\times 10^5$ for negatively maximal violations. Counterintuitively, the negatively maximal violations tend to be a little stronger than the positively maximal violations. Further we show the states corresponding to these maximal violations and compare them with the maximally entangled states by utilizing entangled degree defined by von Neumann entropy. It shows that their entangled degree tends to some nonmaximal value as the dimension increases.

Bell inequalities for three particles

We present tight Bell inequalities expressed by probabilities for three four- and five-dimensional systems. The tight structure of Bell inequalities for three $d$-dimensional systems (qudits) is proposed. Some interesting Bell inequalities of three qubits reduced from those of three qudits are also studied.

Sufficient and Necessary Condition of Separability for Generalized Werner States

We introduce a sufficient and necessary condition for the separability of a specific class of $N$ $d$-dimensional system (qudits) states, namely special generalized Werner state (SGWS): $W^{[d^N]}(v)=(1-v)\frac{I^{(N)}}{d^N}+v|ψ_d^N><ψ_d^N|$, where $ |ψ_d^N>=\sum_{i=0}^{d-1}α_i|i... i>$ is an entangled pure state of $N$ qudits system and $α_i$ satisfys two restrictions: (i) $\sum_{i=0}^{d-1}α_iα_i^*=1$; (ii) Matrix $\frac{1}{d}(I^{(1)}+\mathcal{T}\sum_{i\neq j}α_i|i>< j|α_j^*)$, where $\mathcal{T}=\texttt{Min}_{i\neq j}\{1/|α_iα_j|\}$, is a density matrix. Our condition gives quite a simple and efficiently computable way to judge whether a given SGWS is separable or not and previously known separable conditions are shown to be special cases of our approach.

SO(4) symmetry in the relativistic hydrogen atom

We show that the relativistic hydrogen atom possesses an SO(4) symmetry by introducing a kind of pseudo-spin vector operator. The same SO(4) symmetry is still preserved in the relativistic quantum system in presence of an U(1) monopolar vector potential as well as a nonabelian vector potential. Lamb shift and SO(4) symmetry breaking are also discussed.

Non-standard Schwinger fermionic representation of unitary group

The non-standard Schwinger fermionic representation of the unitary group is studied by using $n$-fermion operators. One finds that the Schwinger fermionic representation of the U(n) group is not unique when $n\ge 3$. In general, based on $n$-fermion operators, the non-standard Schwinger fermionic representation of the U(n) group can be established in a uniform approach, where all the generators commute with the total number operators. The Schwinger fermionic representation of $U(C^{m}_{n})$ group is also discussed.

Experimental simulation of fractional statistics of abelian anyons in the Kitaev lattice-spin model

In two-dimensions, the laws of physics even permit the existence of anyons which exhibit fractional statistics ranging continuously from bosonic to fermionic behaviour. They have been responsible for the fractional quantum Hall effect and proposed as candidates for naturally fault-tolerant quantum computation. Despite these remarkable properties, the fractional statistics of anyons has never been observed in nature directly. Here we report the demonstration of fractional statistics of anyons by simulation of the first Kitaev lattice-spin model on a nuclear magnetic resonance system. We encode four-body interactions of the lattice-spin model into two-body interactions of an Ising spin chain in molecules. It can thus efficiently prepare and operate the ground state and excitations of the model Hamiltonian. This quantum system with convenience of manipulation and detection of abelian anyons reveals anyonic statistical properties distinctly. Our experiment with interacted Hamiltonian could also prove useful in the long run to the control and application of anyons.

Braiding transformation, entanglement swapping and Berry phase in entanglement space

We show that braiding transformation is a natural approach to describe quantum entanglement, by using the unitary braiding operators to realize entanglement swapping and generate the GHZ states as well as the linear cluster states. A Hamiltonian is constructed from the unitary $\check{R}_{i,i+1}(θ,ϕ)$-matrix, where $ϕ=ωt$ is time-dependent while $θ$ is time-independent. This in turn allows us to investigate the Berry phase in the entanglement space.
