GaitKD: A Universal Decoupled Distillation Framework for Efficient Gait Recognition

Gait recognition is an attractive biometric modality for long-range and contact-free identification, but high-performing gait models often rely on deep and computationally expensive architectures that are difficult to deploy in practice. Knowledge distillation (KD) offers a natural way to transfer knowledge from a powerful teacher to an efficient student; however, standard KD is often less effective for part-structured gait models, where supervision is formed from both part-wise classification logits and part-wise retrieval embeddings. In this paper, we propose GaitKD, a distillation framework that decouples gait knowledge transfer into two complementary components: decision-level distillation and boundary-level distillation. Specifically, GaitKD aligns the teacher and student through part-calibrated logit distillation to transfer inter-class decision relations, while preserving the teacher-induced partitioning of the embedding space through an activation-boundary objective instead of direct feature regression. With a simple aligned part-wise design, GaitKD supports heterogeneous teacher-student gait models without introducing additional inference cost. Experimental results across multiple gait recognition benchmarks and teacher-student configurations show consistent improvements over strong gait baselines. Our study demonstrates that the two transfer components are complementary, and boundary-preserving distillation provides more stable performance than direct feature regression. Human Identification at a Distance: Challenges, Methods and Results on the Competition HID 2025

Human identification at a distance (HID) is challenging because traditional biometric modalities such as face and fingerprints are often difficult to acquire in real-world scenarios. Gait recognition provides a practical alternative, as it can be captured reliably at a distance. To promote progress in gait recognition and provide a fair evaluation platform, the International Competition on Human Identification at a Distance (HID) has been organized annually since 2020. Since 2023, the competition has adopted the challenging SUSTech-Competition dataset, which features substantial variations in clothing, carried objects, and view angles. No dedicated training data are provided, requiring participants to train their models using external datasets. Each year, the competition applies a different random seed to generate distinct evaluation splits, which reduces the risk of overfitting and supports a fair assessment of cross-domain generalization. While HID 2023 and HID 2024 already used this dataset, HID 2025 explicitly examined whether algorithmic advances could surpass the accuracy limits observed previously. Despite the heightened difficulty, participants achieved further improvements, and the best-performing method reached 94.2% accuracy, setting a new benchmark on this dataset. We also analyze key technical trends and outline potential directions for future research in gait recognition.

Investigating mixed traffic dynamics of pedestrians and non-motorized vehicles at urban intersections: Observation experiments and modelling

Urban intersections with mixed pedestrian and non-motorized vehicle traffic present complex safety challenges, yet traditional models fail to account for dynamic interactions arising from speed heterogeneity and collision anticipation. This study introduces the Time and Angle Based Social Force Model (TASFM), an enhanced framework extending the classical Social Force Model by integrating Time-to-Collision (TTC) metrics and velocity-angle-dependent tangential forces to simulate collision avoidance behaviors more realistically. Using aerial trajectory data from a high-density intersection in Shenzhen, China, we validated TASFM against real-world scenarios, achieving a Mean Trajectory Error (MTE) of 0.154 m (0.77% of the experimental area width). Key findings reveal distinct behavioral patterns: pedestrians self-organize into lanes along designated routes (e.g., zebra crossings), while non-motorized vehicles exhibit flexible path deviations that heighten collision risks. Simulations of three conflict types (overtaking, frontal/lateral crossing) demonstrate TASFM's capacity to replicate adaptive strategies like bidirectional path adjustments and speed modulation. The model provides actionable insights for urban planners, including conflict hotspot prediction and infrastructure redesign (e.g., segregated lanes), while offering a scalable framework for future research integrating motorized traffic and environmental variables. This work advances the understanding of mixed traffic dynamics and bridges the gap between theoretical modeling and data-driven urban safety solutions.

GaitAdapt: Continual Learning for Evolving Gait Recognition

Current gait recognition methodologies generally necessitate retraining when encountering new datasets. Nevertheless, retrained models frequently encounter difficulties in preserving knowledge from previous datasets, leading to a significant decline in performance on earlier test sets. To tackle these challenges, we present a continual gait recognition task, termed GaitAdapt, which supports the progressive enhancement of gait recognition capabilities over time and is systematically categorized according to various evaluation scenarios. Additionally, we propose GaitAdapter, a non-replay continual learning approach for gait recognition. This approach integrates the GaitPartition Adaptive Knowledge (GPAK) module, employing graph neural networks to aggregate common gait patterns from current data into a repository constructed from graph vectors. Subsequently, this repository is used to improve the discriminability of gait features in new tasks, thereby enhancing the model's ability to effectively recognize gait patterns. We also introduce a Euclidean Distance Stability Method (EDSN) based on negative pairs, which ensures that newly added gait samples from different classes maintain similar relative spatial distributions across both previous and current gait tasks, thereby alleviating the impact of task changes on the distinguishability of original domain features. Extensive evaluations demonstrate that GaitAdapter effectively retains gait knowledge acquired from diverse tasks, exhibiting markedly superior discriminative capability compared to alternative methods.

Cross-Attention Graph Neural Networks for Inferring Gene Regulatory Networks with Skewed Degree Distribution

Inferencing Gene Regulatory Networks (GRNs) from gene expression data is a pivotal challenge in systems biology, and several innovative computational methods have been introduced. However, most of these studies have not considered the skewed degree distribution of genes. Specifically, some genes may regulate multiple target genes while some genes may be regulated by multiple regulator genes. Such a skewed degree distribution issue significantly complicates the application of directed graph embedding methods. To tackle this issue, we propose the Cross-Attention Complex Dual Graph Embedding Model (XATGRN). Our XATGRN employs a cross-attention mechanism to effectively capture intricate gene interactions from gene expression profiles. Additionally, it uses a Dual Complex Graph Embedding approach to manage the skewed degree distribution, thereby ensuring precise prediction of regulatory relationships and their directionality. Our model consistently outperforms existing state-of-the-art methods across various datasets, underscoring its efficacy in elucidating complex gene regulatory mechanisms. Our codes used in this paper are publicly available at: https://github.com/kikixiong/XATGRN.

Promote the Industry Standard of Smart Home in China by Intelligent Router Technology

The reason why smart home remains not popularized lies in bad product user experience, purchasing cost, and compatibility, and a lack of industry standard[1]. Echoing problems above, and having relentless devoted to software and hardware innovation and practice, we have independently developed a set of solution which is based on innovation and integration of router technology, mobile Internet technology,Internet of things technology, communication technology, digital-to-analog conversion and codec technology, and P2P technology among others. We have also established relevant protocols (without the application of protocols abroad). By doing this, we managed to establish a system with low and moderate price, superior performance, all-inclusive functions, easy installation, convenient portability, real-time reliability, security encryption, and the capability to manage home furnitures in an intelligent way. Only a new smart home system like this can inject new idea and energy into smart home industry and thus vigorously promote the establishment of smart home industry standard.
