Construction of Two Statistical Anomaly Features for Small-Sample APT Attack Traffic Classification

Advanced Persistent Threat (APT) attack, also known as directed threat attack, refers to the continuous and effective attack activities carried out by an organization on a specific object. They are covert, persistent and targeted, which are difficult to capture by traditional intrusion detection system(IDS). The traffic generated by the APT organization, which is the organization that launch the APT attack, has a high similarity, especially in the Command and Control(C2) stage. The addition of features for APT organizations can effectively improve the accuracy of traffic detection for APT attacks. This paper analyzes the DNS and TCP traffic of the APT attack, and constructs two new features, C2Load_fluct (response packet load fluctuation) and Bad_rate (bad packet rate). The analysis showed APT attacks have obvious statistical laws in these two features. This article combines two new features with common features to classify APT attack traffic. Aiming at the problem of data loss and boundary samples, we improve the Adaptive Synthetic(ADASYN) Sampling Approach and propose the PADASYN algorithm to achieve data balance. A traffic classification scheme is designed based on the AdaBoost algorithm. Experiments show that the classification accuracy of APT attack traffic is improved after adding new features to the two datasets so that 10 DNS features, 11 TCP and HTTP/HTTPS features are used to construct a Features set. On the two datasets, F1-score can reach above 0.98 and 0.94 respectively, which proves that the two new features in this paper are effective for APT traffic detection.

A Dynamically Reconfigurable Terahertz Array Antenna for Near-field Imaging Applications

A proof of concept for high speed near-field imaging with sub-wavelength resolution using SLM is presented. An 8 channel THz detector array antenna with an electrode gap of 100 um and length of 5 mm is fabricated using the commercially available GaAs semiconductor substrate. Each array antenna can be excited simultaneously by spatially reconfiguring the optical probe beam and the THz electric field can be recorded using 8 channel lock-in amplifiers. By scanning the probe beam along the length of the array antenna, a 2D image can be obtained with amplitude, phase and frequency information.

A universal data based method for reconstructing complex networks with binary-state dynamics

To understand, predict, and control complex networked systems, a prerequisite is to reconstruct the network structure from observable data. Despite recent progress in network reconstruction, binary-state dynamics that are ubiquitous in nature, technology and society still present an outstanding challenge in this field. Here we offer a framework for reconstructing complex networks with binary-state dynamics by developing a universal data-based linearization approach that is applicable to systems with linear, nonlinear, discontinuous, or stochastic dynamics governed by monotonous functions. The linearization procedure enables us to convert the network reconstruction into a sparse signal reconstruction problem that can be resolved through convex optimization. We demonstrate generally high reconstruction accuracy for a number of complex networks associated with distinct binary-state dynamics from using binary data contaminated by noise and missing data. Our framework is completely data driven, efficient and robust, and does not require any a priori knowledge about the detailed dynamical process on the network. The framework represents a general paradigm for reconstructing, understanding, and exploiting complex networked systems with binary-state dynamics.
