Embodied Human Simulation for Quantitative Design and Analysis of Interactive Robotics

Physical interactive robotics, ranging from wearable devices to collaborative humanoid robots, require close coordination between mechanical design and control. However, evaluating interactive dynamics is challenging due to complex human biomechanics and motor responses. Traditional experiments rely on indirect metrics without measuring human internal states, such as muscle forces or joint loads. To address this issue, we develop a scalable simulation-based framework for the quantitative analysis of physical human-robot interaction. At its core is a full-body musculoskeletal model serving as a predictive surrogate for the human dynamical system. Driven by a reinforcement learning controller, it generates adaptive, physiologically grounded motor behaviors. We employ a sequential training pipeline where the pre-trained human motion control policy acts as a consistent evaluator, making large-scale design space exploration computationally tractable. By simulating the coupled human-robot system, the framework provides access to internal biomechanical metrics, offering a systematic way to concurrently co-optimize a robot's structural parameters and control policy. We demonstrate its capability in optimizing human-exoskeleton interactions, showing improved joint alignment and reduced contact forces. This work establishes embodied human simulation as a scalable paradigm for interactive robotics design.

In-batch Relational Features Enhance Precision in An Unsupervised Medical Anomaly Detection Task

Confounding pathology with normal anatomical variation remains a significant challenge in unsupervised medical-image anomaly detection, resulting in numerous false positives. To enhance integration of healthy variation, we augment the latent representation of a CNN autoencoder with contextual similarities within a normal cohort through batch-wise hypergraph estimation and a shared-weights graph convolution layer, producing a population-aware embedding. On a heterogeneous brain-tumor dataset of 2D MRI scans, the method improves separability between healthy and pathological samples, achieving an AUC-ROC of 0.90 (95% CI 0.84-0.95, 5.7% absolute gain), and a 16% absolute improvement in average precision (0.78 AP, 95% CI 0.66-0.89), thereby lowering false-positive rates. Moreover, both anomaly detection and downstream tumor versus no-tumor classification performance improve with the size of the mini-batch context captured in the augmented representation, suggesting a tunable lever for integrating healthy variation.

Mapping the maturation of TCM as an adjuvant to radiotherapy

The integration of complementary medicine into oncology represents a paradigm shift that has seen to increasing adoption of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) as an adjuvant to radiotherapy. About twenty-five years since the formal institutionalization of integrated oncology, it is opportune to synthesize the trajectory of evidence for TCM as an adjuvant to radiotherapy. Here we conduct a large-scale analysis of 69,745 publications (2000 - 2025), emerging a cyclical evolution defined by coordinated expansion and contraction in publication output, international collaboration, and funding commitments that mirrors a define-ideate-test pattern. Using a theme modeling workflow designed to determine a stable thematic structure of the field, we identify five dominant thematic axes - cancer types, supportive care, clinical endpoints, mechanisms, and methodology - that signal a focus on patient well-being, scientific rigor and mechanistic exploration. Cross-theme integration of TCM is patient-centered and systems-oriented. Together with the emergent cycles of evolution, the thematic structure demonstrates progressive specialization and potential defragmentation of the field or saturation of existing research agenda. The analysis points to a field that has matured its current research agenda and is likely at the cusp of something new. Additionally, the field exhibits positive reporting of findings that is homogeneous across publication types, thematic areas, and the cycles of evolution suggesting a system-wide positive reporting bias agnostic to structural drivers.
