Unsaturated both large positive and negative magnetoresistance in Weyl Semimetal TaP

After growing successfully TaP single crystal, we measured its longitudinal resistivity (rhoxx) and Hall resistivity (rhoyx) at magnetic fields up to 9T in the temperature range of 2-300K. It was found that at 2K its magnetoresistivity (MR) reaches to 328000 percent, at 300K to 176 percent at 8T, and both do not appear saturation. We confirmed that TaP is indeed a low carrier concentration, hole-electron compensated semimetal, with a high mobility of hole muh=371000 cm2V-1s-1, and found that a magnetic-field-induced metal-insulator transition occurs at room temperature. Remarkably, as a magnetic field (H) is applied in parallel to the electric field (E), the negative MR due to chiral anomaly is observed, and reaches to -3000 percent at 9T without any signature of saturation, too, which distinguishes with other Weyl semimetals (WSMs). The analysis on the Shubnikov-de Haas (SdH) oscillations superimposing on the MR reveals that a nontrivial Berry phase with strong offset of 0.3958 realizes in TaP, which is the characteristic feature of the charge carriers enclosing a Weyl nodes. These results indicate that TaP is a promising candidate not only for revealing fundamental physics of the WSM state but also for some novel applications.

Superconductivity and Disorder Effect in TlNi$_2$Se$_{2-x}$S$_x$ crystals

After our first discovery of superconductivity (SC) with $T_C$=3.7 K in TlNi$_2$Se$_2$, we grew successfully a series of TlNi$_2$Se$_{2-x}$S$_x$ (0.0 $\leq$ x $\leq$2.0) single crystals. The measurements of resistivity, susceptibility and specific heat were carried out. We found that SC with $T_C$=2.3 K also emerges in TlNi$_2$S$_2$ crystal, which appears to involve heavy electrons with an effective mass $m^*$=13$\sim$25 $m_b$, as inferred from the normal state electronic specific heat and the upper critical field, $H_{C2}(T)$. It was found that the $T_C$ and superconducting volume fraction in TlNi$_2$Se$_{2-x}$S$_x$ crystals changes with the disorder degree induced by the partial substitution of S for Se, which is characterized by the residual resistivity ratio (\textit{RRR}). The effect of the disorder on SC may provide some information for understanding the mechanism of SC in this new Ni-chalcogenide system.

Anomalous Pressure Dependence of the Superconducting Transition Temperature in TlNi$_2$Se$_{2-x}$S$_x$

We report the pressure dependence of the superconducting transition temperature, $T_c$, in TlNi$_2$Se$_{2-x}$S$_x$ detected via the AC susceptibility method. The pressure-temperature phase diagram constructed for TlNi$_{2}$Se$_{2}$, TlNi$_{2}$S$_{2}$ and TlNi$_{2}$SeS exhibits two unexpected features: (a) a sudden collapse of the superconducting state at moderate pressure for all three compositions and (b) a dome-shaped pressure dependence of $T_c$ for TlNi$_{2}$SeS. These results point to the nontrivial role of S substitution and its subtle interplay with applied pressure, as well as novel superconducting properties of the TlNi$_2$Se$_{2-x}$S$_x$ system.

Multiband Superconductivity of Heavy Electrons in TlNi2Se2 single crystal

Superconductivity has been first observed in TlNi$_2$Se$_2$ at T$_C$=3.7 K and appears to involve heavy electrons with an effective mass $m^*$=14$\sim$20 $m_b$, as inferred from the normal state electronic specific heat and the upper critical field, H_${C2}$(T). Although the zero-field electronic specific heat data, $C_{es}(T)$, in low temperatures (T < 1/4 T$_C$) can be fitted with a gap BCS model, indicating that TlNi$_2$Se$_2$ is a fully gapped superconductor, the two-gap BCS model presents the best fit to all the $C_{es}(T)$ data below $T_C$. It is also found that the electronic specific heat coefficient in the mixed state, $γ_N(H)$, exhibits a \textit{H}$^{1/2}$ behavior, which was also observed in some \textit{s}-wave superconductors, although once considered as a common feature of the \textit{d}-wave superconductors. Anyway, these results indicate that TlNi$_2$Se$_2$, as a non-magnetic analogue of TlFe$_x$Se$_2$ superconductor, is a multiband superconductor of heavy electron system.

Magnetic properties in layered (K, Rb and Cs)Co2Se2 with ThCr2Si2_type structure

The magnetic properties of ThCr_2Si_2-type single crystals ACo_2Se_2 (A = K, Rb and Cs) have been investigated by magnetic susceptibility and isothermal magnetization measurements at various temperatures. The ferromagnetic phase transition temperatures are estimated as $\approx$ 74 K and 76 K and 62 K for A = K, Rb and Cs (in case of high magnetic field), respectively. The susceptibility data in the paramagnetic state obey the modified Curie-Weiss law quite well and the derived effective magnetic moments of the Co atom are about 2.21, 2.04 and 2.04 μ_B/Co and the corresponding spontaneous moments derived at the ground state are 0.72, 0.59 and 0.52 μ_B/Co as well as the generalized Rhodes-Wohlfarth ratios as 3.07, 3.42 and 3.96 for A= K, Rb and Cs, respectively. The magnetic moment aligns within ab-plane and a metamagnetism-like behavior occurs at a field of 3.5 T in CsCo_2Se_2 with H//ab-plane. The magnetic properties in this system were discussed within the frameworks of the self-consistent renormalization (SCR) and Takahashi's theory of spin fluctuations.

Pressure-induced and Composition-induced Structural Quantum Phase Transition in the Cubic Superconductor (Sr/Ca)_3Ir_4Sn_{13}

We show that the quasi-skutterudite superconductor Sr_3Ir_4Sn_{13} undergoes a structural transition from a simple cubic parent structure, the I-phase, to a superlattice variant, the I'-phase, which has a lattice parameter twice that of the high temperature phase. We argue that the superlattice distortion is associated with a charge density wave transition of the conduction electron system and demonstrate that the superlattice transition temperature T* can be suppressed to zero by combining chemical and physical pressure. This enables the first comprehensive investigation of a superlattice quantum phase transition and its interplay with superconductivity in a cubic charge density wave system.

Enhancement of the Superconducting Transition Temperature with Hydrostatic Pressure in Ca_{3}Ir_{4}Sn_{13} Single Crystals

We report high pressure magnetic susceptibility and electrical resistivity measurements on Ca_{3}Ir_{4}Sn_{13} single crystals up to 60 kbar. These measurements allow us to follow the evolution of the superconducting critical temperature T_c, the resistivity anomaly temperature T*, the superconducting coherence length and the Fermi velocity under pressure. The pressure-temperature phase diagram constructed for Ca_{3}Ir_{4}Sn_{13} shows a dome-shaped pressure dependence of T_c. The initial rise in T_c, which is accompanied by a decrease in T*, is consistent with a reduction in the partial gapping of the Fermi surface under pressure.

Magnetic and Superconducting Properties of Single Crystals of Fe$_{1+δ}$Te$_{1-x}$Se$_x$ System

The spin-fluctuation effect in the Se-substituted system Fe$_{1+δ}$Te$_{1-x}$Se$_x$ ($x$ = 0, 0.05, 0.12, 0.20, 0.28, 0.33, 0.45, 0.48 and 1.00; $0<δ< 0.12$) has been studied by the measurements of the X-ray diffraction, the magnetic susceptibility under high magnetic fields and the electrical resistivity under magnetic fields up to 14 T. The samples with $x$ = 0.05, 0.12, 0.20, 0.28, 0.33, 0.45 and 0.48 show superconducting transition temperatures in the ranger of 10 K$\sim$14 K. We obtained their intrinsic susceptibilities by the Honda-Owen method. A nearly linear-in-$T$ behavior in magnetic susceptibility of superconducting samples was observed, indicating the antiferromagnetic spin fluctuations have a strong link with the superconductivity in this series. The upper critical field $μ_0H_{c2}^{orb}$ for $T\to$ 0 was estimated to exceed the Pauli paramagnetic limit. The Kadowaki-Woods and Wilson ratios indicate that electrons are strongly correlated in this system. Furthermore, the superconducting coherence length and the electron mean free path were also discussed. These superconducting parameters indicate that the superconductivity in the Fe$_{1+δ}$Te$_{1-x}$Se$_x$ system is unconventional.

Unconventional Superconductivity in the Novel Layered Superconductor Fe(Te-Se) Investigated by $^{125}$Te NMR on the Single Crystal

We have performed $^{125}$Te NMR on a single crystal of the novel layered superconductor Fe$_{1.04}$Te$_{0.67}$Se$_{0.33}$ for the first time. The spin parts of the Knight shifts for both $H // a$, $H // c$ are suppressed in the superconducting state, indicating the spin singlet superconductivity. At superconducting state, $1/T_{1}$ shows the power-law behavior ($\sim T^{3}$) without any coherent peaks. Observations of the residual density of state and the $T^{3}$-law indicate the presence of the line node in the superconducting gap. In the normal state, $1/T_{1}T$ which probes the \textbf{q}-summation of spin fluctuations enhances at low temperatures. Our results suggest that the superconductivity in Fe$_{1+δ}$Te$_{1-x}$Se$_{x}$ is stabilized by the growth of the antiferromagnetic spin fluctuations as well as in FeSe.
