Fast Ambiguous DOA Elimination Method of DOA Measurement for Hybrid Massive MIMO Receiver

DOA estimation for massive multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) system can provide ultra-high-resolution angle estimation. However, due to the high computational complexity and cost of all digital MIMO systems, a hybrid analog digital (HAD) structure MIMO was proposed. In this paper, a fast ambiguous phase elimination method is proposed to solve the problem of direction-finding ambiguity caused by the HAD MIMO. Only two-data-blocks are used to realize DOA estimation. Simulation results show that the proposed method can greatly reduce the estimation delay with a slight performance loss.

UAV-enabled Secure Communication with Finite Blocklength

In the finite blocklength scenario, which is suitable for practical applications, a method of maximizing the average effective secrecy rate (AESR) is proposed for a UAV-enabled secure communication by optimizing the UAV's trajectory and transmit power subject to the UAV's mobility constraints and transmit power constraints. To address the formulated non-convex optimization problem, it is first decomposed into two non-convex subproblems. Then the two subproblems are converted respectively into two convex subproblems via the first-order approximation. Finally, an alternating iteration algorithm is developed by solving the two subproblems iteratively using successive convex approximation (SCA) technique. Numerical results show that our proposed scheme achieves a better AESR performance than both the benchmark schemes.

UAV-Enabled Uplink Non-Orthogonal Multiple Access System: Joint Deployment and Power Control

In order to overcome the inherent latency in multi-user unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) networks with orthogonal multiple access (OMA). In this paper, we investigate the UAV enabled uplink non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) network, where a UAV is deployed to collect the messages transmitted by ground users. In order to maximize the sum rate of all users and to meet the quality of service (QoS) requirement, we formulate an optimization problem, in which the UAV deployment position and the power control are jointly optimized. This problem is non-convex and some variables are binary, and thus it is a typical NP hard problem. In this paper, an iterative algorithm is proposed with the assistance of successive convex approximate (SCA) technique and the penalty function method. In order to reduce the high computational complexity of the iterative algorithm, a low complexity approximation algorithm is then proposed, which can achieve a similar performance compared to the iterative algorithm. Compared with OMA scheme and conventional NOMA scheme, numerical results show that our proposed algorithms can efficiently improve the sum rate.

Optimal Power Allocation for Secure Directional Modulation Networks with a Full-duplex UAV User

This paper make an investigation of a secure unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV)-aided communication network based on directional modulation(DM), in which one ground base station (Alice), one legitimate full-duplex (FD) user (Bob) and one illegal receiver (Eve) are involved. In this network, Alice acts as a control center to transmit confidential message and artificial noise (AN). The UAV user, moving along a linear flight trajectory, is intended to receive the useful information from Alice. At the same time, it also sends AN signals to further interference Eve's channel. Aiming at maximizing secrecy rate during the UAV flight process, a joint optimization problem is formulated corresponding to power allocation (PA) factors, beamforming vector, AN projection matrices. For simplicity, maximum ratio transmission, null-space projection and the leakage-based method are applied to form the transmit beamforming vector, AN projection matrix at Alice, and AN projection vector at Bob, respectively. Following this, the optimization problem reduces into a bivariate optimization programme with two PA factors. We put forward an alternating iterative algorithm to optimize the two PA factors. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed strategy for FD mode achieves a higher SR than the half-duplex (HD) mode, and outperforms the FD mode with fixed PA strategy.

Robust Directional Modulation Design for Secrecy Rate Maximization in Multi-User Networks

In this paper, based on directional modulation (DM), robust beamforming matrix design for sum secrecy rate maximization is investigated in multi-user systems. The base station (BS) is assumed to have the imperfect knowledge of the direction angle toward each eavesdropper, with the estimation error following the Von Mises distribution. To this end, a Von Mises distribution-Sum Secrecy Rate Maximization (VMD-SSRM) method is proposed to maximize the sum secrecy rate by employing semi-definite relaxation and first-order approximation based on Taylor expansion to solve the optimization problem. Then in order to optimize the sum secrecy rate in the case of the worst estimation error of direction angle toward each eavesdropper, we propose a maximum angle estimation error-SSRM (MAEE-SSRM) method. The optimization problem is constructed based on the upper and lower bounds of the estimated eavesdropping channel related coefficient and then solved by the change of the variable method. Simulation results show that our two proposed methods have better sum secrecy rate than zero-forcing (ZF) method and signal-to-leakage-and-noise ratio (SLNR) method. Furthermore, the sum secrecy rate performance of our VMD-SSRM method is better than that of our MAEE-SSRM method.

Alternating Iterative Secure Structure between Beamforming and Power Allocation for UAV-aided Directional Modulation Networks

In unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) networks, directional modulation (DM) is adopted to improve the secrecy rate (SR) performance. Alice, a ground base station, behaves as a control center, and Bob is a UAV of flying along a linear flight trajectory who optimizes its SR performance by dynamically adjusting its beamforming vectors and power allocation (PA) strategy. Per fixed time interval during the Bob's flight process, the transmit beamforming vectors for useful messages and AN projection are given by the rule of maximizing signal-to-leakage-and-noise ratio (Max-SLNR) and maximizing AN-and-leakage-to-noise ratio (ANLNR), and the optimal PA strategy is based on maximizing SR (Max-SR). More importantly, an alternating iterative structure (AIS) between beamforming and PA is proposed to further improve the SR performance. Simulation results show that the proposed AIS converges rapidly, and can achieve substantial SR gains over Max-SLNR plus Max-ANLNR with fixed PA such as PA factor $β=$ 0.5, and 0.9. In particular, in the case of small-scale antenna array, the SR performance gain achieved by the proposed AIS is more attractive. Additionally, as the number of antennas tends to be large-scale, the average SR performance of the proposed AIS approaches an SR ceil.

A Robust Secure Hybrid Analog and Digital Receive Beamforming Scheme for Efficient Interference Reduction

Medium-scale or large-scale receive antenna array with digital beamforming can be employed at receiver to make a significant interference reduction, but leads to expensive cost and high complexity of the RF-chain circuit. To deal with this issue, a classic analog-and-digital beamforming (ADB) structure was proposed in the literature for greatly reducing the number of RF-chains. Based on the ADB structure, we in this paper propose a robust hybrid ADB scheme to resist directions of arrival (DOAs) estimation errors. The key idea of our scheme is to employ null space projection (NSP) in analog beamforming domain and diagonal loading (DL) method in digital beamforming domain. Simulation results show that the proposed scheme performs more robustly, and moreover, has a significant improvement on the receive signal to interference plus noise ratio (SINR) compared to NSP ADB scheme and DL method.

Power Allocation Strategy of Maximizing Secrecy Rate for Secure Directional Modulation Networks

In this paper, given the beamforming vector of confidential messages and artificial noise (AN) projection matrix and total power constraint, a power allocation (PA) strategy of maximizing secrecy rate (Max-SR) is proposed for secure directional modulation (DM) networks. By the method of Lagrange multiplier, the analytic expression of the proposed PA strategy is derived. To confirm the benefit from the Max-SR-based PA strategy, we take the null-space projection (NSP) beamforming scheme as an example and derive its closed-form expression of optimal PA strategy. From simulation results, we find the following facts: in the medium and high signal-to-noise-ratio (SNR) regions, compared with three typical PA parameters such $β=0.1, 0.5$, and $0.9$, the optimal PA shows a substantial SR performance gain with maximum gain percent up to more than $60\%$. Additionally, as the PA factor increases from 0 to 1, the achievable SR increases accordingly in the low SNR region whereas it first increases and then decreases in the medium and high SNR regions, where the SR can be approximately viewed as a convex function of the PA factor. Finally, as the number of antennas increases, the optimal PA factor becomes large and tends to one in the medium and high SNR region. In other words, the contribution of AN to SR can be trivial in such a situation.

Secure Directional Modulation to Enhance Physical Layer Security in IoT Networks

In this work, an adaptive and robust null-space projection (AR-NSP) scheme is proposed for secure transmission with artificial noise (AN)-aided directional modulation (DM) in wireless networks. The proposed scheme is carried out in three steps. Firstly, the directions of arrival (DOAs) of the signals from the desired user and eavesdropper are estimated by the Root Multiple Signal Classificaiton (Root-MUSIC) algorithm and the related signal-to-noise ratios (SNRs) are estimated based on the ratio of the corresponding eigenvalue to the minimum eigenvalue of the covariance matrix of the received signals. In the second step, the value intervals of DOA estimation errors are predicted based on the DOA and SNR estimations. Finally, a robust NSP beamforming DM system is designed according to the afore-obtained estimations and predictions. Our examination shows that the proposed scheme can significantly outperform the conventional non-adaptive robust scheme and non-robust NSP scheme in terms of achieving a much lower bit error rate (BER) at the desired user and a much higher secrecy rate (SR). In addition, the BER and SR performance gains achieved by the proposed scheme relative to other schemes increase with the value range of DOA estimation error.

Robust Secure Transmission of Using Main-Lobe-Integration Based Leakage Beaforming in Directional Modulation MU-MIMO Systems

In the paper, we make an investigation of robust beamforming for secure directional modulation in the multi-user multiple-input and multiple output (MU-MIMO) systems in the presence of direction angle measurement errors. When statistical knowledge of direction angle measurement errors is unavailable, a novel robust beamforming scheme of combining main-lobe-integration (MLI) and leakage is proposed to simultaneously transmit multiple different independent parallel confidential message streams to the associated multiple distinct desired users. The proposed scheme includes two steps: designing the beamforming vectors of the useful confidential messages and constructing artificial noise (AN) projection matrix. Here, in its first step, the beamforming vectors for the useful confidential messages of desired user k are given by minimizing the useful signal power leakage from main-lobe of desired user k to the sum of main-lobes of the remaining desired directions plus main-lobes of all eavesdropper directions. In its second step, the AN projection matrix is constructed by simultaneously maximizing the AN power leakage to all eavesdropper directions such that all eavesdroppers are disrupted seriously, where AN is viewed by the transmitter as a useful signal for eavedroppers. Due to independent beamforming vectors for different desired users, a more secure transmission is achieved. Compared with conventional non-robust methods, the proposed method can provide a significant improvement in bit error rate along the desired directions and secrecy-sum-rate towards multiple desired users without needing statistical property or distribution of angle measurement errors.

Sum-MSE performance gain of DFT-based channel estimator over frequency-domain LS one in full-duplex OFDM systems with colored interference

In this paper, we make an investigation on the sum-mean-square-error (sum-MSE) performance gain achieved by DFT-based least-square (LS) channel estimator over frequency-domain LS one in full-duplex OFDM system in the presence of colored interference and noise. The closed-form expression of the sum-MSE performance gain is given. Its simple upper and lower bounds are derived by using inequalities of matrix eigen-values. By simulation and analysis, the upper lower bound is shown to be close to the exact value of MSE gain as the ratio of the number N of total subcarriers to the cyclic prefix length L grows and the correlation factor of colored interference increases. More importantly, we also find that the MSE gain varies from one to N/L as the correlation among colored interferences decreases gradually. According to theoretical analysis, we also find the MSE gain has very simple forms in two extreme scenarios. In the first extreme case that the colored interferences over all subchannels are fully correlated, i.e., their covariance matrix is a matrix of all-ones, the sum-MSE gain reduces to 1. In other words, there is no performance gain. In the second extreme case that the colored-interference covariance matrix is an identity matrix, i.e, they are mutually independent, the achievable sum-MSE performance gain is N/L. A large ratio N/L will achieve a significant sum-MSE gain.
