FreqSpaNet: Frequency and Spatial Learning of SFPF for Physical Layer Hardware Integrity Detection

Unauthorized hardware replacement can preserve a wireless device's logical identity while altering its physical implementation, posing a challenge to hardware integrity verification. Spatio-frequency polarization fingerprints (SFPFs) capture device-dependent responses across multiple frequencies and directions, but their frequency and spatial dimensions exhibit different structural dependencies. We propose FreqSpaNet, an SFPF representation learning network for open set hardware anomaly detection. A frequency branch captures local variations among neighboring frequencies, while a geometry-aware spatial branch models directional relationships using angular information. The two representations are combined through adaptive fusion, and complementary pretraining further captures shared information while preserving the distinct characteristics of the frequency and spatial representations. Experiments show that FreqSpaNet achieves a mean AUROC of 96.31\%, 9.05 points above the baseline. Results under seven hardware replacement scenarios further verify the effectiveness of FreqSpaNet.

The nature of Cloud-9: a compact core embedded in a diffuse envelope

We present new HI observations of Cloud-9 with the Five-hundred-meter Aperture Spherical Telescope (FAST), measuringvtotal flux of 0.35 +- 0.03 Jy km/s. Combined with Very Large Array (VLA) data, the HI shows a two-component structure: a compact, kinematically quiescent core and an extended envelope. The outer component exhibits a coherent velocity gradientvof ~25 km/s across ~7 kpc. The position-velocity structure does not support rotation; instead, the gradient is consistent with ordered large-scale motion, induced by environmental interaction with M94. The coexistence of a compact, kinematically quiescent core and an extended structured envelope is difficult to reconcile with a unbound or purely gaseous system. While the extended component is more naturally interpreted as environmentally shaped gas, the compact core suggests gravitational confinement beyond that provided by the observed baryonic content, without requiring strict long-term dynamical equilibrium. Deep optical limits further rule out a significant stellar component. Taken together, our results indicate that Cloud-9 is most naturally interpreted as a dark matter-dominated system undergoing environmental interaction. The observed morphology and kinematics are consistent with a stripped RELHIC scenario, in which a compact gas-rich core is embedded within an extended envelope shaped by ram-pressure interaction with the circumgalactic medium of M94.

Cladding Layer Enhanced GHz Bulk Acoustic Wave Resonance in Sodium Niobate Thin Films on Silicon

Bulk acoustic wave resonators (BAWR) and bandpass filters operating at GHz frequency are the workhorse of (Vo-)LTE telecommunication and broadband internet. In line with the Singapore Green Plan 2030 for innovating environmentally friendly products, we fabricated lead-free BAWR with sodium niobate (NaNbO3) piezoelectric on silicon with a high electromechanical coupling factor up to 31.3% operating at ~4 GHz. We disclose our crucial strategy where the NaNbO3 layer is cladded between two thin layers of high band gap insulators, which satisfies two primary objectives, i.e. leakage current mitigation and crack avoidance. In addition, we also verified the efficacy of reducing lattice parameters of the cladding layers in promoting vertically distorted tetragonal phase NaNbO3 and producing stronger BAWR signals.

Pulse duration dependence of material response in ultrafast laser-induced surface-penetrating nanovoids in fused silica

The focused ultrafast laser, with its ability to initiate nonlinear absorption in transparent materials, has emerged as one of the most effective approaches for micro-nano processing. In this study, we carried out research on the processing of high-aspect-ratio nanovoids on fused silica by using the single-pulse ultrafast Bessel beam. The thermodynamic response behaviors of the materials on surface and deep inside are found to exhibit pronounced disparities with the variation in laser pulse duration. As the pulse duration increases from 0.2 ps to 9.0 ps, the intensity of material ablation on silica surface exhibits a gradually decreasing trend, while for the void formation deep inside silica, the void diameter exhibits a trend of initial increase followed by decrease. In particular, no nanovoids are even induced deep inside when the pulse duration is 0.2 ps. The mechanism causing such differences is discussed and considered to be related to the peak intensity, group velocity dispersion, and plasma defocusing. By covering a polymer film on silica surface to influence the energy deposition, the thermomechanical response behaviors of the materials to laser pulse duration are modulated, and the material sputtering on nanovoid opening is suppressed. On this basis, surface-penetrating nanovoid arrays are fabricated on a 2-mm-thick silica sample using 2 ps Bessel beam. Given the nanovoid diameter of approximately 150 nm, the aspect ratio of the nanovoids on fused silica sample exceeds 13000:1. This outcome creates significant possibilities for the stealth dicing and processing of 3D photonic crystals, optical integrated devices, and nanofluidics.

Message Passing Variational Autoregressive Network for Solving Intractable Ising Models

Many deep neural networks have been used to solve Ising models, including autoregressive neural networks, convolutional neural networks, recurrent neural networks, and graph neural networks. Learning a probability distribution of energy configuration or finding the ground states of a disordered, fully connected Ising model is essential for statistical mechanics and NP-hard problems. Despite tremendous efforts, a neural network architecture with the ability to high-accurately solve these fully connected and extremely intractable problems on larger systems is still lacking. Here we propose a variational autoregressive architecture with a message passing mechanism, which can effectively utilize the interactions between spin variables. The new network trained under an annealing framework outperforms existing methods in solving several prototypical Ising spin Hamiltonians, especially for larger spin systems at low temperatures. The advantages also come from the great mitigation of mode collapse during the training process of deep neural networks. Considering these extremely difficult problems to be solved, our method extends the current computational limits of unsupervised neural networks to solve combinatorial optimization problems.

HiFAST: an HI data calibration and imaging pipeline for FAST

The Five-hundred-meter Aperture Spherical radio Telescope (FAST) has the largest aperture and a 19-beam L-band receiver, making it powerful for investigating the neutral hydrogen atomic gas (HI) in the universe. We present HiFAST (https://hifast.readthedocs.io), a dedicated, modular, and self-contained calibration and imaging pipeline for processing the HI data of FAST. The pipeline consists of frequency-dependent noise diode calibration, baseline fitting, standing wave removal using an FFT-based method, flux density calibration, stray radiation correction, and gridding to produce data cubes. These modules can be combined as needed to process the data from most FAST observation modes: tracking, drift scanning, On-The-Fly mapping, and most of their variants. With HiFAST, the RMS noises of the calibrated spectra from all 19 beams were only slightly (~ 5%) higher than the theoretical expectation. The results for the extended source M33 and the point sources are consistent with the results from Arecibo. The moment maps (0,1 and 2) of M33 agree well with the results from the Arecibo Galaxy Environment Survey (AGES) with a fractional difference of less than 10%. For a common sample of 221 sources with signal-to-noise ratio S/N >10 from the Arecibo Legacy Fast ALFA (ALFALFA) survey, the mean value of fractional difference in the integrated flux density, $S_{\mathrm{int}}$, between the two datasets is approximately 0.005 %, with a dispersion of 15.4%. Further checks on the integrated flux density of 23 sources with seven observations indicate that the variance in the flux density of the source with luminous objects ($S_\mathrm{int}$ $ > 2.5$ Jy km s$^{-1}$) is less than 5%. Our tests suggest that the FAST telescope, with the efficient, precise, and user-friendly pipeline HiFAST, will yield numerous significant scientific findings in the investigation of the HI in the universe.

The Mood of the Sunlight: Visualization of the Sunlight Data for Public Art

The application of data visualization in public art attracts increasing attention. In this paper, we present the design and implementation of a visualization method for sunlight data collected over a long period of time with an industrial camera. The proposed method makes use of the saturation and value information of collected sunlight image data in Hue Saturation Value color model to show the variation of the mood of the sunlight. Specifically, we create visual patterns with a rotating planet gear, which has an intuitively consistent geometric meaning with HSV color model and the planetary motion. Due to the variation of the sunlight data over time, the generated visual pattern presents a periodic variation that corresponds to the changing mood of the sunlight. Furthermore, we also use the sunlight data to generate music as another form of data representation. Two public artworks have been created with the above visualization and auralization methods and displayed on an exhibition held at China Resources Tower, Shenzhen, China. This work is a typical practice of creating public installations with data visualization technology, giving a glimpse into the many ways science and art intersect.

Chemical evolution of Red MSX Sources in the southern sky

Red Midcourse Space Experiment (MSX) Sources (RMSs) are regarded as excellent candidates of massive starforming regions. In order to characterize the chemical properties of massive star formation, we made a systematic study of 87 RMSs in the southern sky, using archival data taken from the Atacama Pathfinder Experiment Telescope Large Area Survey of the Galaxy (ATLASGAL), the Australia Telescope Compact Array, and the Millimetre Astronomy Legacy Team Survey at 90 GHz (MALT90). According to previous multiwavelength observations, our sample could be divided into two groups: massive young stellar objects and H II regions. Combined with the MALT90 data, we calculated the column densities of N2H+, C2H, HC3N, and HNC and found that they are not much different from previous studies made in other massive star-forming regions. However, their abundances are relatively low compared to infrared dark clouds (IRDCs). The abundances of N2H+ and HNC in our sample are at least 1 mag lower than those found in IRDCs, indicating chemical depletions in the relatively hot gas. Besides, the fractional abundances of N2H+, C2H, and HC3N seem to decrease as a function of their Lyman continuum fluxes (NL), indicating that these molecules could be destroyed by UV photons when H II regions have formed inside. We also find that the C2H abundance decreases faster than HC3N with respect to NL. The abundance of HNC has a tight correlation with that of N2H+, indicating that it may be also preferentially formed in cold gas. We regard our RMSs as being in a relatively late evolutionary stage of massive star formation.
