Directional Differentiability of the Metric Projection in Bochner Spaces

In this paper, we consider the directional differentiability of metric projection and its properties in uniformly convex and uniformly smooth Bochner space Lp(S; X), in which (S, A, mu) is a positive measure space and X is a uniformly convex and uniformly smooth Banach space. Let (arbitrary) A in A with measure of A greater than 0 and define a subspace Lp(A; X) of Lp(S; X), which is considered as a closed and convex subset of Lp(S; X). We first study the properties of the normalized duality mapping in Lp(S; X) and in Lp(A; X). For any c in Lp(A; X) and r > 0, we define a closed ball BA(c; r) in Lp(A; X) and a cylinder CA(c; r) in Lp(S; X) with base BA(c; r). Then, we investigate some optimal properties of the corresponding metric projections P(Lp(A;X)), P(BA(c;r)) and P(CA(c;r)) that include the inverse images, the directional differentiability and the precise solutions of their directional derivatives.

Directional Differentiability of the Generalized Metric Projection in Banach Spaces

Let X be a real uniformly convex and uniformly smooth Banach space and C a nonempty closed and convex subset of X. In this paper, we consider the generalized metric projection operator from X to C, which was introduced by Alber in 1996. We define the Gateaux directional differentiability and investigate some properties of the directional differentiability of the generalized metric projection. In particular, if C is a closed ball, or a closed and convex cone (including proper closed subspaces), or a closed and convex cylinder, then, we give the exact representations of the directional derivatives of the generalized metric projection. We also compare the differences of the directional differentiability between the generalized metric projection and the (standard) metric projection.

Directional Differentiability of the Generalized Metric Projection in Hilbert spaces and Hilbertian Bochner spaces

Let $H$ be a real Hilbert space and $C$ a nonempty closed and convex subset of $H$. Let $P_C: H\rightarrow C$ denote the (standard) metric projection operator. In this paper, we study the Gâteaux directional differentiability of $P_C$ and investigate some of its properties. The Gâteaux directionally derivatives of $P_C$ are precisely given for the following cases of the considered subset $C$: 1. closed and convex subsets; 2. closed balls; 3. closed and convex cones (including proper closed subspaces). For special Hilbert spaces, we consider directional differentiability of $P_C$ for some Hilbert spaces with orthonormal bases and the real Hilbert space $L^2([-π,π])$ with the trigonometric orthonormal basis.

Zero-filter limit issue for the Camassa-Holm equation in Besov spaces

In this paper, we focus on zero-filter limit problem for the Camassa-Holm equation in the more general Besov spaces. We prove that the solution of the Camassa-Holm equation converges strongly in $L^\infty(0,T;B^s_{2,r}(\R))$ to the inviscid Burgers equation as the filter parameter $α$ tends to zero with the given initial data $u_0\in B^s_{2,r}(\R)$. Moreover, we also show that the zero-filter limit for the Camassa-Holm equation does not converges uniformly with respect to the initial data in $B^s_{2,r}(\R)$.

Non-uniform convergence of solution for the Camassa-Holm equation in the zero-filter limit

In the short note, we prove that given initial data $\mathcal{u}_0 \in \pmb{H}^s(\mathbb{R})$ with $s>\frac32$ and for some $T>0$, the solution of the Camassa-Holm equation does not converges uniformly with respect to the initial data in $\pmb{L}^\infty$ $(0,T;H^s(\mathbb{R}))$ to the inviscid Burgers equation as the filter parameter $α$ tends to zero. This is a supplement to our recent result on the zero-filter limit.

Anomalous Dissipation for the d-dimensional Navier-Stokes Equations

The purpose of this paper is to study the vanishing viscosity limit for the d-dimensional Navier--Stokes equations in the whole space: \begin{equation*} \begin{cases} \partial_tu^\varepsilon+u^\varepsilon\cdot \nabla u^\varepsilon-\varepsilonΔu^\varepsilon+\nabla p^\varepsilon=0,\\ \mathrm{div}\ u^\varepsilon=0. \end{cases} \end{equation*} We aim to presenting a simple rigorous examples of initial data which generates the corresponding solutions of the Navier--Stokes equations do exhibit anomalous dissipation. Precisely speaking, we show that there are (classical) solutions for which the dissipation rate of the kinetic energy is bounded away from zero.

Loss of Uniform Convergence for Solutions of the Navier--Stokes Equations in the Inviscid Limit

In this paper, we consider the inviscid limit problem to the higher dimensional incompressible Navier--Stokes equations in the whole space. It is shown in [Guo, Li, Yin: J. Funct. Anal., 276 (2019)] that given initial data $u_0\in B^{s}_{p,r}$ and for some $T>0$, the solutions of the Navier--Stokes equations converge strongly in $L^\infty_TB^{s}_{p,r}$ to the Euler equations as the viscosity parameter tends to zero. We furthermore prove the failure of the uniform (with respect to the initial data) $B^{s}_{p,r}$ convergence in the inviscid limit of a family of solutions of the Navier-Stokes equations towards a solution of the Euler equations.

On the well-posedness and non-uniform continuous dependence for the Novikov equation in the Triebel-Lizorkin spaces

In this paper we study the Cauchy problem of the Novikov equation in $\mathbb{R}$ for initial data belonging to the Triebel-Lizorkin spaces, i.e, $u_0\in F^{s}_{p,r}$ with $1< p, r<\infty$ and $s>\max\{\frac32,1+\frac1p\}$. We prove local-in-time unique existence of solution to the Novikov equation in $F^{s}_{p,r}$. Furthermore, we obtain that the data-to-solution of this equation is continuous but not uniformly continuous in the same space.

Optimization in Bochner Spaces

In this paper, we study some optimization problems in uniformly convex and uniformly smooth Bochner spaces. We consider four cases of the underlying subsets: closed and convex subsets, closed and convex cones, closed subspaces and closed balls. In each case, we study the existence problems and the inverse image properties. We think that the results and the analytic methods in this paper could be applied to the theories of stochastic optimization, stochastic variational inequality and stochastic fixed point.

Directional Differentiability of the Metric Projection in Uniformly Convex and Uniformly Smooth Banach Spaces

Let X be a real uniformly convex and uniformly smooth Banach space and C a nonempty closed and convex subset of X. Let Pc from X to C denote the (standard) metric projection operator. In this paper, we define the Gateaux directional differentiability of Pc. We investigate some properties of the Gateaux directional differentiability of Pc. In particular, if C is a closed ball or a closed and convex cone (including proper closed subspaces), then, we give the exact representations of the directional derivatives of Pc. Finally, we define the concept of p-q uniformly convex and uniformly smooth Banach spaces. We will prove that if X is a p-q uniformly convex and uniformly smooth Banach space, then for any nonempty closed and convex subset C of X, Pc is directionally differentiable on the whole space X. The results in this paper can be immediately applied to Hilbert spaces.

Ill-posedness for the periodic Camassa--Holm type equations in the end-point critical Besov space $B^{1}_{\infty,1}$

For the real-line case, it is shown that both the Camassa--Holm \cite{Guo} and Novikov equations \cite{Li-arx} are ill-posed in $B_{\infty,1}^{1}$. In this paper, by presenting a new construction of initial data which leads to the norm inflation phenomena, we prove that both the periodic Camassa--Holm and Novikov equations are also ill-posed in $B_{\infty,1}^{1}$.

Dual and Generalized Dual Cones in Banach Spaces

The primary objective of this paper is to propose and analyze the notion of dual cones associated with the metric projection and generalized projection in Banach spaces. We show that the dual cones, related to the metric projection and generalized metric projection, lose many important properties in transitioning from Hilbert spaces to Banach spaces. We also propose and analyze the notions of faces and visions in Banach spaces and relate them to the metric projection and generalized projection. We provide many illustrative examples to give insight into the given results.

Approximating Properties of Metric and Generalized Metric Projections in Uniformly Convex and Uniformly Smooth Banach Spaces

This note conducts a comparative study of some approximating properties of the metric projection, generalized projection, and generalized metric projection in uniformly convex and uniformly smooth Banach spaces. We prove that the inverse images of the metric projections are closed and convex cones, but they are not necessarily convex. In contrast, inverse images of the generalized projection are closed and convex cones. Furthermore, the inverse images of the generalized metric projection are neither a convex set nor a cone. We also prove that the distance from a point to its projection at a convex set is a weakly lower semicontinuous function for all three notions of projections. We provide illustrating examples to highlight the different behavior of the three projections in Banach spaces.

Ill-posedness issue on a multidimensional chemotaxis equations in the critical Besov spaces

In this paper, we aim to solving the open question left in [Nie, Yuan: Nonlinear Anal 196 (2020); J. Math. Anal. Appl 505 (2022)) and Xiao, Fei: J. Math. Anal. Appl 514 (2022)]. We prove that a multidimensional chemotaxis system is ill-posedness in $\dot{B}_{2d, r}^{-\frac{3}{2}} \times\big(\dot{B}_{2d, r}^{-\frac{1}{2}}\big)^{d}$ when $1\leq r<d$ due to the lack of continuity of the solution.

Fixed point theorems without continuity in metric vector spaces

In this oaper, we prove some fixed point theorems in metric vector spaces, in which the continuity is not required for the considered mappings to satisfy. We provide some concrete examples to demonstrate these theorems. We also give some counterexamples to show that every condition in the theorems is necessary for the considered mapping to have a fixed point.

Ill-posedness of the Novikov equation in the critical Besov space $B^{1}_{\infty,1}(\mathbb{R})$

It is shown that both the Camassa-Holm and Novikov equations are ill-posed in $B_{p,r}^{1+1/p}(\mathbb{R})$ with $(p,r)\in[1,\infty]\times(1,\infty]$ in \cite{Guo2019} and well-posed in $B_{p,1}^{1+1/p}(\mathbb{R})$ with $p\in[1,\infty)$ in \cite{Ye}. Recently, the ill-posedness for the Camassa-Holm equation in $B^{1}_{\infty,1}(\mathbb{R})$ has been proved in \cite{Guo}. In this paper, we shall solve the only left an endpoint case $r=1$ for the Novikov equation. More precisely, we prove the ill-posedness for the Novikov equation in $B^{1}_{\infty,1}(\mathbb{R})$ by exhibiting the norm inflation phenomena.

Norm inflation and ill-posedness for the Fornberg-Whitham equation

In this paper, we prove that the Cauchy problem for the Fornberg-Whitham equation is not locally well-posed in $B^s_{p,r}(\R)$ with $(s,p,r)\in (1,1+\frac1p)\times[2,\infty)\times [1,\infty]$ or $(s,p,r)\in \{1\}\times[2,\infty)\times [1,2]$ by showing norm inflation phenomena of the solution for some special initial data.
