Chiral $Z^\prime$ in FASER, FASER2, DUNE, and ILC beam dump experiments

The origin of neutrino mass is a big unsolved problem of the Standard Model (SM) that motivate us to consider beyond the SM (BSM) scenarios where SM-singlet right-handed neutrinos (RHNs) are introduced to explain the origin of the light neutrino masses through the seesaw mechanism. There is a variety of ways which could lead us to this goal and one of them is a general U$(1)$ extension of the SM. In this scenario, three SM-singlet RHNs are introduced to cancel the gauge and mixed gauge gravity anomalies. After anomaly cancellation, we notice that the left- and right-handed charged fermions are differently charged under the general U$(1)$ gauge group evolving a chiral scenario. After the breaking of the general U$(1)$ symmetry, a neutral BSM gauge boson $(Z^\prime)$ acquires mass and it is a free parameter. Such $Z^\prime$, being lighter than $5$ GeV, could be probed at the intensity and lifetime frontiers like FASER, FASER2, DUNE, and ILC beam dump experiments. The estimated bounds are needed to be compared with the existing bounds. We find that existing constraints from Orsay, Nomad, PS191, KEK, LSND, CHARM experiments, and cosmological scenario like SN1987A can be compared in our case once estimated for chiral scenarios. Finally, we compare the parameter spaces showing viable ones that could be probed by FASER, FASER2, DUNE, and ILC beam dump experiments and already excluded regions from Orsay, Nomad, PS191, KEK, LSND, CHARM, and SN1987A for a chiral scenario.

Vector Boson Scattering Processes: Status and Prospects

Insight into the electroweak (EW) and Higgs sectors can be achieved through measurements of vector boson scattering (VBS) processes. The scattering of EW bosons are rare processes that are precisely predicted in the Standard Model (SM) and are closely related to the Higgs mechanism. Modifications to VBS processes are also predicted in models of physics beyond the SM (BSM), for example through changes to the Higgs boson couplings to gauge bosons and the resonant production of new particles. In this review, experimental results and theoretical developments of VBS at the Large Hadron Collider, its high luminosity upgrade, and future colliders are presented.

Polarization measurement for the dileptonic channel of $W^+ W^-$ scattering using generative adversarial network

Measuring the polarization fractions of the $W^+W^-$ scattering reveals the interactions of the Higgs boson as well as new neutral states that are related to the standard model electroweak symmetry breaking. The dileptonic channel has a relatively lower background rate, but the kinematics of its final states can not be fully reconstructed due to the presence of two neutrinos. We propose neural networks to establish maps between the distributions of measurable quantities and the distributions of the lepton angles in $W$ boson rest frames. New physics contributions and collision energy can largely affect the kinematic properties of the $W^+W^-$ scattering beside the lepton angles. To make the network in ignorance of that information, the loss function is modified in two different ways. We show that the networks are promising in reproducing the lepton angle distributions, and the precision of the fitted polarization fractions obtained from network predictions is comparable to that obtained with the truth lepton angle. Although the best-fit values of polarization fractions do not change much after including the background uncertainty, the precisions is substantially reduced. Our trained models are available at GitHub.

Inelastic Dark Matter from Dark Higgs Boson Decays at FASER

We consider inelastic dark matter scenarios with dark photon mediator and a dark Higgs boson. The dark Higgs boson spontaneously breaks the gauge symmetry associated with the dark photon, and gives the mass to the dark photon and the mass difference to dark particles. Such a dark Higgs boson can decay into the dark particles and hence can be another source of the dark particles at collider experiments. We analyze the sensitivity to decays of the excited state into the dark matter and charged particles at the FASER 2 experiment in fermion and scalar inelastic dark matter scenarios. We consider two mass spectra as illustrating examples in which the excited state can be produced only through the decay of dark Higgs boson. We show that unprobed parameter region can be explored in fermion dark matter scenario for the illustrating mass spectra.

The quirk signal at FASER and FASER 2

We study FASER and FASER 2 sensitivities to the quirk signal by simulating the motions of quirks that are travelling through several infrastructures from the ATLAS interaction point to the FASER (2) detector. The ionization energy losses for a charged quirk travelling in different materials are treated carefully. We calculate the expected numbers of quirk events that can reach the FASER (2) detector for an integrated luminosity of 150 (3000) fb$^{-1}$. Scenarios for quirks with four different quantum numbers, and different masses and confinement scales are studied.

Multi-scalar signature of self-interacting dark matter in the NMSSM and beyond

This work studies the self-interacting dark matter (SIDM) scenario in the general NMSSM and beyond, where the dark matter is a Majorana fermion and the force mediator is a scalar boson. An improved analytical expression for the dark matter (DM) self-interacting cross section which takes into account the Born level effects is proposed. Due to the large couplings and light mediator in SIDM scenario, the DM/mediator will go through multiple branchings if they are produced with high energy. Based on the Monte Carlo simulation of the showers in the DM sector, we obtain the multiplicities and the spectra of the DM/mediator from the Higgsino production and decay at the LHC for our benchmark points.

A multi-component SIMP model with $U(1)_X \rightarrow Z_2 \times Z_3$

Multi-component dark matter scenarios are studied in the model with $U(1)_X$ dark gauge symmetry that is broken into its product subgroup $Z_2 \times Z_3$ á la Krauss-Wilczek mechanism. In this setup, there exist two types of dark matter fields, $X$ and $Y$, distinguished by different $Z_2 \times Z_3$ charges. The real and imaginary parts of the $Z_2$-charged field, $X_R$ and $X_I$, get different masses from the $U(1)_X$ symmetry breaking. The field $Y$, which is another dark matter candidate due to the unbroken $Z_3$ symmetry, belongs to the Strongly Interacting Massive Particle (SIMP)-type dark matter. Both $X_I$ and $X_R$ may contribute to $Y$'s $3\rightarrow 2$ annihilation processes, opening a new class of SIMP models with a local dark gauge symmetry. Depending on the mass difference between $X_I$ and $X_R$, we have either two-component or three-component dark matter scenarios. In particular two- or three-component SIMP scenarios can be realised not only for small mass difference between $X$ and $Y$, but also for large mass hierarchy between them, which is a new and unique feature of the present model. We consider both theoretical and experimental constraints, and present four case studies of the multi-component dark matter scenarios.

The Boosted Higgs Jet Reconstruction via Graph Neural Network

By representing each collider event as a point cloud, we adopt the Graphic Convolutional Network (GCN) with focal loss to reconstruct the Higgs jet in it. This method provides higher Higgs tagging efficiency and better reconstruction accuracy than the traditional methods which use jet substructure information. The GCN, which is trained on events of the $H$+jets process, is capable of detecting a Higgs jet in events of several different processes, even though the performance degrades when there are boosted heavy particles other than the Higgs in the event. We also demonstrate the signal and background discrimination capacity of the GCN by applying it to the $t\bar{t}$ process. Taking the outputs of the network as new features to complement the traditional jet substructure variables, the $t\bar{t}$ events can be separated further from the $H$+jets events.

Reconstructing boosted Higgs jets from event image segmentation

Based on the jet image approach, which treats the energy deposition in each calorimeter cell as the pixel intensity, the Convolutional neural network (CNN) method has been found to achieve a sizable improvement in jet tagging compared to the traditional jet substructure analysis. In this work, the Mask R-CNN framework is adopted to reconstruct Higgs jets in collider-like events, with the effects of pileup contamination taken into account. This automatic jet reconstruction method achieves higher efficiency of Higgs jet detection and higher accuracy of Higgs boson four-momentum reconstruction than traditional jet clustering and jet substructure tagging methods. Moreover, the Mask R-CNN trained on events containing a single Higgs jet is capable of detecting one or more Higgs jets in events of several different processes, without apparent degradation in reconstruction efficiency and accuracy. The outputs of the network also serve as new handles for the $t\bar{t}$ background suppression, complementing to traditional jet substructure variables.

Detecting anomaly in vector boson scattering

Measuring the vector boson scattering (VBS) precisely is an important step towards understanding the electroweak symmetry breaking of the standard model (SM) and detecting new physics beyond the SM. We propose a neural network which compress the features of the VBS into three dimensional latent space. The consistency of the SM prediction and the experimental data is tested by the binned log-likelihood analysis in the latent space. We will show that the network is capable of distinguish different polarization modes of $WWjj$ production in both dileptonic channel and semi-leptonic channel. The method is also applied to constrain the effective field theory and two Higgs Doublet Model. The results demonstrate that the method is sensitive to generic new physics contributing to the VBS.

The Natural Explanation of the Muon Anomalous Magnetic Moment via the Electroweak Supersymmetry from the GmSUGRA in the MSSM

The Fermi-Lab Collaboration has announced the results for the measurement of muon anomalous magnetic moment. Combining with the previous results by the BNL experiment, we have $4.2 σ$ deviation from the Standard Model (SM), which strongly implies the new physics around 1 TeV. To explain the muon anomalous magnetic moment naturally, we analyze the corresponding five Feynman diagrams in the Supersymetric SMs (SSMs), and show that the Electroweak Supersymmetry (EWSUSY) is definitely needed. We realize the EWSUSY in the Minimal SSM (MSSM) with Genernalized Mininal Supergravity (GmSUGRA). We find large viable parameter space, which is consistent with all the current experimental constraints. In particular, the Lightest Supersymmetric Particle (LSP) neutralino can be at least as heavy as 550 GeV. Most of the viable parameter space can be probed at the future HL-LHC, while we do need the future HE-LHC to probe some viable parameter space. However, it might still be challenge if R-parity is violated.

Uncovering quirk signal via energy loss inside tracker

The quirk particle carries Lorentz force and long-range infracolor force, while suffers relatively large ionization energy loss inside the detector. It can be indirectly constrained by mono-jet search or directly search through co-planar hits if the confinement scale is not too low ($Λ\gtrsim 100$ eV). Considering the ionization energy loss inside tracker, we improve the co-planar search. We also will solve the equation of motion for quirks numerically by including all of the important contributions. Based on our selection strategy, the $\sim 100$ fb$^{-1}$ dataset at the LHC will be able to probe the colored fermion/scalar quirks with masses up to {2.1/1.1 TeV}, and the color neutral fermion/scalar quirks with masses up to {450/150 GeV}, respectively.

The quirk trajectory

We for the first time obtain the analytical solution for the quirk equation of motion in an approximate way. Based on it, we study several features of quirk trajectory in a more precise way, including quirk oscillation amplitude, number of periods, as well as the thickness of quirk pair plane. Moreover, we find an exceptional case where the quirk crosses at least one of the tracking layers repeatedly. Finally, we consider the effects of ionization energy loss and fixed direction of infracolor string for a few existing searches.

Correlation between $R_{D^{(*)}}$ and top quark FCNC decays in leptoquark models

Some interpretations of $R_{D^{(*)}}$ anomaly in $B$ meson decay using leptoquark (LQ) models can also generate top quark decays through Flavor Changing Neutral Current (FCNC). In this work we focus on two LQs, i.e. scalar $S_1$ and vector $U_1$ which are both singlet under the $SU(2)_L$ gauge group in the Standard Model (SM). We investigate their implications on the 3-body top FCNC decays $t\to c \ell_i \ell_j$ at tree level and the 2-body $t\to c V$ at one-loop level, with $\ell$ being the SM leptons and $V=γ, Z, g$ being the SM gauge bosons. We utilize the $2σ$ parameter fitting ranges of the LQ models and find that $Br(t\to c \ell_i \ell_j)$ at tree level can reach $\mathcal{O}(10^{-6})$ and $Br(t\to c V)$ at one-loop level can reach $\mathcal{O}(10^{-10})$. Some quick collider search prospects are also analyzed.

The least constrained supersymmetry with R-parity violation

The strong constraints on the R-parity conserving supersymmetry (SUSY) from the LHC searches motivate us to consider the new models in which the low-scale SUSY is still allowed. We propose a kind of R-parity violating SUSY scenarios with a non-zero $U^c_2 D^c_2 D^c_3$ operator. Three relevant LHC searches are recasted to test the status of this scenario in terms of four simplified models, with either light stop-Bino, stop-Higgsino, sbottom-Bino or sbottom-Higgsino. Some difficult scenarios for the LHC SUSY searches in these simplified models are identified. By extrapolate the current LHC searches to the future 14 TeV LHC with integrated luminosity of 300 fb$^{-1}$, most of the difficult scenarios can be probed, except the sbottom-Bino simplified one. An improved search, which utilises the multiple b-jets as well as its kinematic features, is expected to probe the signature of this case.

Search for the vectorlike leptons in the U(1)$_X$ model inspired by the $B$-meson decay anomalies

We consider the U(1)$_X$ model, which can induce the flavor violating couplings through vectorlike fermions and address the observed rare $B$-meson decay anomalies. To be consistent with all the other observations, both the associated gauge boson mass and the vectorlike lepton mass are bounded from above. We argue that the search for new vectorlike leptons is promising and provides a complement to the $Z'$ search. A detailed collider analysis shows that the model with the vectorlike lepton mass up to 1000 GeV could be tested at the future LHC.

Light Dark Matter Showering under Broken Dark $U(1)$ -- Revisited

It was proposed recently that different chiralities of the dark matter (DM) fermion under a broken dark U(1) gauge group can lead to distinguishable signatures at the LHC through shower patterns, which may reveal the mass origin of the dark sector. We study this subject further by examining the dark shower of two simplified models, the dubbed Chiral Model and the Vector Model. We derive a more complete set of collinear splitting functions with power corrections, specifying the helicities of the initial DM fermion and including the contribution from an extra degree of freedom, the dark Higgs boson. The dark shower is then implemented with these splitting functions, and the new features resulting from its correct modelling are emphasized. It is shown that the DM fermion chirality can be differentiated by measuring dark shower patterns, especially the DM jet energy profile, which is almost independent of the DM energy.

Deep learning for the R-parity violating supersymmetry searches at the LHC

Supersymmetry with hadronic R-parity violation in which the lightest neutralino decays into three quarks is still weakly constrained. This work aims to further improve the current search for this scenario by the boosted decision tree method with additional information from jet substructure. In particular, we find a deep neural network turns out to perform well in characterizing the neutralino jet substructure. We first construct a Convolutional Neutral Network (CNN) which is capable of tagging the neutralino jet in any signal process by using the idea of jet image. When applied to pure jet samples, such a CNN outperforms the N-subjettiness variable by a factor of a few in tagging efficiency. Moreover, we find the method, which combines the CNN output and jet invariant mass, can perform better and is applicable to a wider range of neutralino mass than the CNN alone. Finally, the ATLAS search for the signal of gluino pair production with subsequent decay $\tilde{g} \to q q \tildeχ^0_1 (\to q q q)$ is recasted as an application. In contrast to the pure sample, the heavy contamination among jets in this complex final state renders the discriminating powers of the CNN and N-subjettiness similar. By analyzing the jets substructure in events which pass the ATLAS cuts with our CNN method, the exclusion limit on gluino mass can be pushed up by $\sim200$ GeV for neutralino mass $\sim 100$ GeV.
