Large-scale Regularity of Nearly Incompressible Elasticity in Stochastic Homogenization

In this paper, we systematically study the regularity theory of the linear system of nearly incompressible elasticity. In the setting of stochastic homogenization, we develop new techniques to establish the large-scale estimates of displacement and pressure, which are uniform in both the scale parameter and the incompressibility parameter. In particular, we obtain the boundary estimates in a new class of Lipschitz domains whose boundaries are smooth at large scales and bumpy at small scales.

Regularity of a transmission problem and periodic homogenization

This paper is concerned with the regularity theory of a transmission problem arising in composite materials. We give a new self-contained proof for the $C^{k,α}$ estimates on both sides of the interface under the minimal assumptions on the interface and data. Moreover, we prove the uniform Lipschitz estimate across a $C^{1,α}$ interface when the coefficients on both sides of the interface are periodic with independent structures and oscillating at different microscopic scales.

Weak maximum principle for biharmonic equations in quasiconvex Lipschitz domains

In dimension two or three, the weak maximum principal for biharmonic equation is valid in any bounded Lipschitz domains. In higher dimensions (greater than three), it was only known that the weak maximum principle holds in convex domains or $C^1$ domains, and may fail in general Lipschitz domains. In this paper, we prove the weak maximum principle in higher dimensions in quasiconvex Lipschitz domains, which is a sharp condition in some sense and recovers both convex and $C^1$ domains.

Oscillatory integrals and periodic homogenization of Robin boundary value problems

In this paper, we consider a family of second-order elliptic systems subject to a periodically oscillating Robin boundary condition. We establish the qualitative homogenization theorem on any Lipschitz domains satisfying a non-resonance condition. We also use the quantitative estimates of oscillatory integrals to obtain the dimension-dependent convergence rates in $L^2$, assuming that the domain is smooth and strictly convex.

First-order expansions for eigenvalues and eigenfunctions in periodic homogenization

For a family of elliptic operators with periodically oscillating coefficients, $-\text{div}( A(\cdot/\varepsilon) \nabla) $ with tiny $\varepsilon>0$, we comprehensively study the first-order expansions of eigenvalues and eigenfunctions (eigenspaces) for both Dirichlet and Neumann problems in bounded, smooth and strictly convex domains (or more general domains of finite type). A new first-order correction term is introduced to derive the expansion of eigenfunctions in $L^2$ or $H^1_{\text{loc}}$. Our results rely on the recent progress on the homogenization of boundary layer problems.

Periodic homogenization of Green's functions for Stokes systems

This paper is devoted to establishing the uniform estimates and asymptotic behaviors of the Green's functions $(G_\varepsilon,Π_\varepsilon)$ (and fundamental solutions $(Γ_\varepsilon, Q_\varepsilon)$) for the Stokes system with periodically oscillating coefficients (including a system of linear incompressible elasticity). Particular emphasis will be placed on the new oscillation estimates for the pressure component $Π_\varepsilon$. Also, for the first time we prove the \textit{adjustable} uniform estimates (i.e., Lipschitz estimate for velocity and oscillation estimate for pressure) by making full use of the Green's functions. Via these estimates, we establish the asymptotic expansions of $G_\varepsilon,\nabla G_\varepsilon, Π_\varepsilon$ and more, with a tiny loss on the errors. Some estimates obtained in this paper are new even for Stokes system with constant coefficients, and possess potential applications in homogenization of Stokes or elasticity system.

Regularity of Homogenized Boundary Data in Periodic Homogenization of Elliptic Systems

This paper is concerned with periodic homogenization of second-order elliptic systems in divergence form with oscillating Dirichlet data or Neumann data of first order. We prove that the homogenized boundary data belong to $W^{1, p}$ for any $1<p<\infty$. In particular, this implies that the boundary layer tails are Hölder continuous of order $α$ for any $α\in (0,1)$.

Homogenization and boundary layers in domains of finite type

This paper is concerned with the homogenization of Dirichlet problem of elliptic systems in a bounded, smooth domain of finite type. Both the coefficients of the elliptic operator and the Dirichlet boundary data are assumed to be periodic and rapidly oscillating. We prove the theorem of homogenization and obtain an algebraic rate of convergence that depends explicitly on dimension and the type of the domain.

Boundary Layers in Periodic Homogenization of Neumann Problems

This paper is concerned with a family of second-order elliptic systems in divergence form with rapidly oscillating periodic coefficients. We initiate the study of homogenization and boundary layers for Neumann problems with first-order oscillating boundary data. We identify the homogenized system and establish the sharp rate of convergence in $L^2$ in dimension three or higher. Sharp regularity estimates are also obtained for the homogenized boundary data in both Dirichlet and Neumann problems. The results are used to obtain a higher-order convergence rate for Neumann problems with non-oscillating data.

Uniform boundary regularity in almost-periodic homogenization

In the present paper, we generalize the theory of quantitative homogenization for second-order elliptic systems with rapidly oscillating coefficients in $APW^2(\mathbb{R}^d)$, which is the space of almost-periodic functions in the sense of H. Weyl. We obtain the large scale uniform boundary Lipschitz estimate, for both Dirichlet and Neumann problems in $C^{1,α}$ domains. We also obtain large scale uniform boundary Hölder estimates in $C^{1,α}$ domains and $L^2$ Rellich estimates in Lipschitz domains.

Approximate Correctors and Convergence Rates in Almost-Periodic Homogenization

We carry out a comprehensive study of quantitative homogenization of second-order elliptic systems with bounded measurable coefficients that are almost-periodic in the sense of H. Weyl. We obtain uniform local $L^2$ estimates for the approximate correctors in terms of a function that quantifies the almost-periodicity of the coefficient matrix. We give a condition that implies the existence of (true) correctors. These estimates as well as similar estimates for the dual approximate correctors yield optimal or near optimal convergence rates in $H^1$ and $L^2$.The $L^2$-based Hölder and Lipschitz estimates at large scale are also established.
