Azimuthal angular dependence of decay lepton in e+ e- --> t tbar

We discuss top quark production and its subsequent decay for searching new physics at lepton colliders. The angular dependence of the decay leptons is calculated including both QCD corrections and anomalous gamma Z - t tbar couplings. The off-diagonal spin basis for the top and anti-top quarks is shown to be useful to probe the anomalous couplings.

Twist-3 polarized structure functions

We review the nucleon's twist-3 polarized structure functions from the viewpoint of gauge invariant, nonlocal light-cone operators in QCD. We discuss a systematic treatment of the polarized structure functions and the corresponding parton distribution functions. We emphasize unique features of higher twist distributions, and the role of the QCD equations of motion to derive their anomalous dimensions for Q^2-evolution.

Polarized Structure Functions in QCD

Hadron spin physics is now one of the most active fields of physics. Especially in the last ten years, great progress has been made both theoretically and experimentally that has considerably improved our knowledge of the spin structure of nucleons. We review the nucleon's polarized structure functions from the viewpoint of factorization theorems and the gauge invariant, nonlocal light-cone operators in QCD. We discuss a systematic treatment of the polarized structure functions and the corresponding parton distribution functions, which are relevant to inclusive lepto- and hadro-production. We give a detailed analysis of these spin-dependent distribution functions at the twist-2 and twist-3 level, and present various properties and relations satisfied by the parton distributions, which can be derived directly from QCD. We emphasize unique features of higher twist distributions, and the role of the QCD equations of motion to derive their sensitivity to the quark-gluon correlation and their anomalous dimensions for Q^2-evolution.

QCD Corrections to Spin Correlations in Top Quark Production at Lepton Colliders

Spin correlations, using a generic spin basis, are investigated to leading order in QCD for top quark production at lepton colliders. Even though, these radiative corrections induce an anomalous gamma/Z magnetic moment for the top quarks and allow for single, real gluon emission, their effects on the top quark spin orientation are very small. The final results are that the top (or anti-top) quarks are produced in an essentially unique spin configuration in polarized lepton collisions even after including the O(alpha_{s}) QCD corrections.

The Small $x$ Behavior of $g_1$ in the Resummed Approach

The double logarithmic terms $α_{s} \ln^{2}x $ are important to predict precisely the small $x$ behavior of the spin structure function $g_{1}$. We numerically analyze the evolution of the flavor non-singlet $g_{1}$ including the all-order resummed effect of these terms. It is pointed out that the next-to-leading logarithmic corrections produce an unexpectedly large suppression factor over the experimentally accessible range of $x$ and $Q^{2}$. This implies that the next-to-leading logarithmic contributions are very important in order to obtain a definite prediction.

Top Pair Production in e^+ e^- and gamma gamma Processes

We analyze spin correlations between top quark and anti-top quark produced at polarized e^+ e^- and gamma gamma colliders. We consider a generic spin basis to find a strong spin correlation. Optimal spin decompositions for top quark pair are presented for e^+ e^- and gamma gamma colliders. We show the cross-section in these bases and discuss the characteristics of results.

Renormalization of gauge-invariant operators for the structure function g_2(x, Q^{2})

We investigate the nucleon's transverse spin-dependent structure function g_2(x, Q^{2}) in the framework of the operator product expansion and the renormalization group. We construct the complete set of the twist-3 operators for the flavor singlet channel, and give the relations among them. We develop an efficient, covariant approach to derive the anomalous dimension matrix of the twist-3 singlet operators by computing the off-shell Green's functions. As an application, we investigate the renormalization mixing for the lowest moment case, including the operators proportional to the equations of motion as well as the ``alien'' operators which are not gauge-invariant.

Renormalization of the Twist-3 Flavor Singlet Operators in a Covariant Gauge

We investigate the nucleon's transverse spin-dependent structure function g_2(x, Q^2) in the framework of the operator product expansion and the renormalization group. We construct the complete set of the twist-3 operators for the flavor singlet channel, and give the relations among them. We develop an efficient, covariant approach to derive the anomalous dimension matrix of the twist-3 singlet operators by computing the off-shell Green's functions. As an application, we investigate the Q^2-evolution of g_2(x, Q^{2}) for the lowest moment case, and discuss its experimental implication.

QCD Higher Order Corrections to $g_1 (x)$ at Small $x$

The small $x$ behavior of the flavor non-singlet $g_{1}$ structure function is analysed numerically by taking into account the all-order resummation of $α_{s} \ln^{2}x $ terms. We include a part of the next-to-leading logarithmic corrections coming from the resummed ``coefficient function'' which are not considered in the literatures to respect the factorization scheme independence. The resummed coefficient function turns out to give unexpectedly large suppression effects over the experimentally accessible range of $x$ and $Q^{2}$. This fact implies that the higher order logarithmic corrections are very important for $g_{1}$ in the small $x$ region.

Does Leading ln x Resummation Predict the Rise of g_1 at Small x ?

We numerically analyse the evolution of the flavor non-singlet $g_{1}$ structure function taking into account the all-order resummation of $α_{s} ln^{2}x$ terms which is expected to have much stronger effects than the DGLAP evolution in the small x region. We include a part of the next-to-leading logarithmic corrections coming from the resummed ``coefficient function'' which are not considered in the calculation of Blümlein and Vogt to respect the factorization scheme independence. It is pointed out that the resummed coefficient function gives unexpectedly large suppression factor over the experimentally accessible range of x and Q^{2}. This fact implies that the next-to-leading logarithmic contributions are very important for the $g_{1}$ structure function.

Renormalization of Twist-4 Operators in QCD Bjorken and Ellis-Jaffe Sum Rules

The QCD effects of twist-4 operators on the first moment of nucleon spin-dependent structure function $g_1(x, Q^2 )$ are studied in the framework of operator product expansion and renormalization group method. We investigate the operator mixing through renormalization of the twist-4 operators including those proportional to the equation of motion by evaluating off-shell Green's functions in the usual covariant gauge as well as in the background gauge. Through this procedure we extract the one-loop anomalous dimension of the spin 1 and twist-4 operator which determines the logarithmic correction to the $1/Q^2$ behavior of the contribution from the twist-4 operators to the first moment of $g_1(x,Q^2)$.

QCD Corrections to the nucleon's spin structure function $G_2(x,Q^2)$

We investigate the renormalization of the twist-3 operators which are relevant for the spin-dependent structure function $g_{2}(x, Q^{2})$. We derive the anomalous dimension for the non-singlet part by calculating the off-shell Green's functions of the twist-3 operators including the operators which are proportional to the equation of motion.

More on the Burkhardt-Cottingham Sum Rule in QCD

The QCD higher order effects to the polarized structure function $g_2(x, Q^2 )$ are reanalyzed for massive quarks in the context of the operator product expansion. We confirm that the lowest moment of $g_2 (x, Q^2 )$ which corresponds to the Burkhardt-Cottingham sum rule does {\sl not} suffer from radiative corrections in perturbative QCD.

The Background Field Method: Alternative Way of Deriving the Pinch Technique's Results

We show that the background field method (BFM) is a simple way of deriving the same gauge-invariant results which are obtained by the pinch technique (PT). For illustration we construct gauge-invariant self-energy and three-point vertices for gluons at one-loop level by BFM and demonstrate that we get the same results which were derived via PT. We also calculate the four-gluon vertex in BFM and show that this vertex obeys the same Ward identity that was found with PT.}

The Mass of the Lightest Supersymmetric Higgs Boson beyond the Leading Logarithm Approximation

We examine the radiative corrections to the mass of the lightest Higgs boson in the minimal supersymmetric extension of the standard model. We use the renormalization-group improved effective potential which includes the next-to-leading-order contributions. We find that, contrary to the result of Espinosa and Quirós, the higher-order corrections to the lightest Higgs boson mass are non-negligible, adding $3-11$ GeV ($3-9$ GeV) to the result in the leading logarithm approximation for the range of top quark mass $100 {\rm GeV} < m_t < 200 {\rm GeV}$ and for the supersymmetric breaking scale $M_{\rm SUSY} = 1 {\rm TeV}$ ($M_{\rm SUSY} = 10 {\rm TeV}$). Also we find that our result is stable under the change of the renormalization parameter $t$.
