BiMind: A Dual-Head Reasoning Model with Attention-Geometry Adapter for Incorrect Information Detection

Incorrect information poses significant challenges by disrupting content veracity and integrity, yet most detection approaches struggle to jointly balance textual content verification with external knowledge modification under collapsed attention geometries. To address this issue, we propose a dual-head reasoning framework, BiMind, which disentangles content-internal reasoning from knowledge-augmented reasoning. In BiMind, we introduce three core innovations: (i) an attention geometry adapter that reshapes attention logits via token-conditioned offsets and mitigates attention collapse; (ii) a self-retrieval knowledge mechanism, which constructs an in-domain semantic memory through kNN retrieval and injects retrieved neighbors via feature-wise linear modulation; (iii) the uncertainty-aware fusion strategies, including entropy-gated fusion and a trainable agreement head, stabilized by a symmetric Kullback-Leibler agreement regularizer. To quantify the knowledge contributions, we define a novel metric, Value-of-eXperience (VoX), to measure instance-wise logit gains from knowledge-augmented reasoning. Experiment results on public datasets demonstrate that our BiMind model outperforms advanced detection approaches and provides interpretable diagnostics on when and why knowledge matters.

Beyond Citations: A Cross-Domain Metric for Dataset Impact and Shareability

The scientific community increasingly relies on open data sharing, yet existing metrics inadequately capture the true impact of datasets as research outputs. Traditional measures, such as the h-index, focus on publications and citations but fail to account for dataset accessibility, reuse, and cross-disciplinary influence. We propose the X-index, a novel author-level metric that quantifies the value of data contributions through a two-step process: (i) computing a dataset-level value score (V-score) that integrates breadth of reuse, FAIRness, citation impact, and transitive reuse depth, and (ii) aggregating V-scores into an author-level X-index. Using datasets from computational social science, medicine, and crisis communication, we validate our approach against expert ratings, achieving a strong correlation. Our results demonstrate that the X-index provides a transparent, scalable, and low-cost framework for assessing data-sharing practices and incentivizing open science. The X-index encourages sustainable data-sharing practices and gives institutions, funders, and platforms a tangible way to acknowledge the lasting influence of research datasets.

Impact Of Emotions on Information Seeking And Sharing Behaviors During Pandemic

We propose a novel approach to assess the public's coping behavior during the COVID-19 outbreak by examining the emotions. Specifically, we explore (1) changes in the public's emotions with the COVID-19 crisis progression and (2) the impacts of the public's emotions on their information-seeking, information-sharing behaviors, and compliance with stay-at-home policies. We base the study on the appraisal tendency framework, detect the public's emotions by fine-tuning a pre-trained RoBERTa model, and cross-analyze third-party behavioral data. We demonstrate the feasibility and reliability of our proposed approach in providing a large-scale examination of the publi's emotions and coping behaviors in a real-world crisis: COVID-19. The approach complements prior crisis communication research, mainly based on self-reported, small-scale experiments and survey data. Our results show that anger and fear are more prominent than other emotions experienced by the public at the pandemic's outbreak stage. Results also show that the extent of low certainty and passive emotions (e.g., sadness, fear) was related to increased information-seeking and information-sharing behaviors. Additionally, high-certainty (e.g., anger) and low-certainty (e.g., sadness, fear) emotions during the outbreak correlated to the public's compliance with stay-at-home orders.

Impact of News Organizations' Trustworthiness and Social Media Activity on Audience Engagement

News organizations are increasingly using social media to reach out to their audience aimed at raising their attention and engagement with news. Given the continuous decrease in subscription rates and audience trust in news media, it is imperative for news organizations to understand factors contributing to their relationships with the audience. Using Twitter data of 315 U.S. newspaper organizations and their audiences, this study uses multiple regression analysis to examine the influence of key news organization characteristics on audience engagement with news: (1) trustworthiness computed by the Trust Scores in Social Media (TSM) algorithm; (2) quantity of tweets; and (3) skillfulness of Twitter use. The results show significant influence of a news organizations' trustworthiness and level of Twitter activity on its audiences' news engagement. Methods to measure trustworthiness of news organizations and audience news engagement, as well as scalable algorithms to compute them from large-scale datasets, are also proposed.
