Power-law distributions and fluctuation-dissipation relation in the stochastic dynamics of two-variable Langevin equations

We show that the general two-variable Langevin equations with inhomogeneous noise and friction can generate many different forms of power-law distributions. By solving the corresponding stationary Fokker-Planck equation, we can obtain a condition under which these power-law distributions are accurately created in a system away from equilibrium. This condition is an energy-dependent relation between the diffusion coefficient and the friction coefficient and thus it provides a fluctuation-dissipation relation for nonequilibrium systems with power-law distributions. Further, we study the specific forms of the Fokker-Planck equation that correctly leads to such power-law distributions, and then present a possible generalization of Klein-Kramers equation and Smoluchowski equation to a complex system, whose stationary-state solutions are exactly a Tsallis distribution.

Stochastic dynamical theory of power-law distributions induced by multiplicative noise

The two-variable Langevin equations, modeling the Brownian motion of a particle moving in a potential and leading to the Maxwell-Boltzmann distribution of the corresponding Fokker-Planck equation, are shown to give rise to types of stationary power-law distributions through the multiplicative noise. The power-law distributions induced by this inhomogeneous noise are proved to be a result of that the relation of diffusion to friction depends on the energy. We understand the conditions under which the power-law distributions are produced and how they are produced in systems away from equilibrium, and hence derive a generalized fluctuation-dissipation theorem. This leads to a generalized Klein-Kramers equation, and a generalized Smoluchowski equation for the particle moving in a strong friction medium, whose stationary-state solutions are exactly Tsallis distribution.

Transition state theory: a generalization to nonequilibrium systems with power-law distributions

Transition state theory (TST) is generalized for the nonequilibrium system with power-law distributions. The stochastic dynamics that gives rise to the power-law distributions for the reaction coordinate and momentum is modeled by the Langevin equations and corresponding Fokker-Planck equations. It is assumed that the system far away from equilibrium has not to relax to a thermal equilibrium state with Boltzmann-Gibbs distribution, but asymptotically approaches to a nonequilibrium stationary-state with power-law distributions. Thus, we obtain a generalization of TST rates to nonequilibrium systems with power-law distributions. Furthermore, we derive the generalized TST rate constants for one-dimension and n-dimension Hamiltonian systems away from equilibrium, and receive a generalized Arrhenius rate for the system with power-law distributions.

On the power-law q-distribution function based on the probabilistically independent postulate in nonextensive statistics

We deal with the power-law q-distribution functions, so-called q-exponentials in nonextensive statistics. The system considered is a many-body Hamiltonian system with arbitrary interacting potentials. We find that the usual form of power-law q-distribution function employed in nonextensive statistics for the system may be not to stand by the probabilistically independent postulate and it only represents a dynamical isothermal situation. The probabilistically independent postulate is validated by the nonextensivity (or pseudoadditivity) in nonextensive statistics and thus the usual forms of power-law q-distribution function have to be modified. In this letter, we present a new power-law q-distribution based on the probabilistically independent postulate, which can represent nonequilibrium stationary state of the system away from equilibrium and with the nonextensive energy.

What does the nonextensive parameter q stand for in self-gravitating systems ?

It is natural important question for us to ask what the nonextensive parameter stands for when Tsallis statistics is applied to the self-gravitating systems. In this paper, some properties of the nonextensive parameter and Tsallis equilibrium distribution for the self-gravitating system are discussed in the framework of nonextensive kinetic theory. On the basis of the solid mathematical foundation, the nonextensive parameter can be expressed by a formula with temperature gradient and the gravitational potential and can be presented the physical meaning with regard to the non-isothermal (nonequilibrium stationary state) nature of the systems with long-range interactions. We come to the conclusion that Tsallis equilibrium distribution is corresponding to the physical state of self-gravitating system at the hydrostatic equilibrium.

Thermodynamic potentials and Thermodynamic Relations in Nonextensive Thermodynamics

The generalized Gibbs free energy and enthalpy is derived in the framework of nonextensive thermodynamics by using the so-called physical temperature and the physical pressure. Some thermodynamical relations are studied by considering the difference between the physical temperature and the inverse of Lagrange multiplier. The thermodynamical relation between the heat capacities at a constant volume and at a constant pressure is obtained using the generalized thermodynamical potential, which is found to be different from the traditional one in Gibbs thermodynamics. But, the expressions for the heat capacities using the generalized thermodynamical potentials are unchanged.

A new form of Tsallis distribution based on the probabilistically independent postulate

The current form of Tsallis distribution for a Hamiltonian system with an arbitrary potential is found to represent a simple isothermal situation. In this letter, the q-exponential of a sum can be applied as the product of the q-exponential based on the probabilistically independent postulate employed in nonextensive statistical mechanics. Under this framework, a new form of Tsallis distribution is suggested. It is shown that the new form of Tsallis distribution can supply the statistical description for the nonequilibrium dynamical property of the Hamiltonian system governed by an arbitrary potential, and it is found to be one potential statistical distribution for the dark matter.

Dust-acoustic instability driven by drifting ions and electrons in the dust plasma with Lorentzian kappa distribution

The instability of the dust-acoustic waves driven by drifting electrons and ions in a dusty plasma is investigated by the kinetic theory. All the plasma components (electrons, ions and dust particles) are assumed to be the Lorentzian kappa-distributions. The spectral indexes kappa of the kappa-distributions for the three plasma components are different from each other. The obtained instability growth rate depends on the physical quantities of the plasma not only, but on the spectral indexes. The numerical results for the kappa-effect on the instability growth rate show that, if the normalized wave number is small, the index of electrons has a stabilized effect on the dust acoustic waves and the index of ions has an instability effect on the waves, but if the normalized wave number is large, they both nearly have no any effect on the waves. In reverse, the index of dust grains has nearly no any effect on the instability growth rate if the normalized wave number is small, but it has a stabilized effect on the dust waves if the normalized wave number is large.

The two parameters (k, r) in the generalized statistics

Based on the generalized Boltzmann equation and the reverse function of the distribution function, we investigate the two-parameter generalized statistics and get an expression between the two parameters (k,r) and the physical quantities about the system considered. We find that the two parameters can define some characteristics of the system. As examples, this result can just return to the previous one obtained for Tsallis and statistics. For some complex systems, we may need the two-parameter statistics to describe.

Heat capacity of the generalized two-atom and many-atom gas in nonextensive statistics

We have used the generalized two-atom ideal gas model in Tsallis statistics for the statistical description of a real gas. By comparing the heat capacity with the experimental results for the two-atom molecule gases such as N2, O2 and CO, we find that these gases appear extensive at normal temperature, but they may be nonextensive at the lower temperature. Furthermore, we study the heat capacity of the generalized many-atom gas model. We conclude that, for the many-atom gas with a high degree of freedom, a weak nonextensivity of 1-q<0 can lead to the instability.

A nonextensive approach for the instability of current-driven ion-acoustic waves in space plasma

The instability of current-driven ion-acoustic waves in the collisionless magnetic-field-free space plasma is investigated by using a nonextensive approach. The ions and the electrons are thought of in the power-law distributions that can be described by the generalized q-Maxwellian velocity distribution and are considered with the different nonextensive q-parameters. The generalized q-wave frequency and the generalized instability q-growth rate for the ion-acoustic waves are derived. The numerical results show that the nonextensive effects on the ion-acoustic waves are not apparent when the electron temperature is much more than the ion temperature, but they are salient when the electron temperature is not much more than the ion temperature. As compared with the electrons, the ions play a dominant role in the nonextensive effects.

Possible dynamics of the Tsallis distribution from a Fokker-Planck equation (I)

The dynamical property of the Tsallis distribution is studied from a Fokker-Planck equation. For the Langevin dynamical system with an arbitrary potential function, Markovian friction and Gaussian white noise, we show that no possible nonequilibrium dynamics can use the Tsallis distribution for the statistical description. The current form of the Tsallis distribution stands for a simple isothermal situation with no friction and no noise.

Possible canonical distributions for finite systems with nonadditive energy

It is shown that a small system in thermodynamic equilibrium with a finite thermostat can have a q-exponential probability distribution which closely depends on the energy nonextensivity and the particle number of the thermostat. The distribution function will reduce to the exponential one at the thermodynamic limit. However, the nonextensivity of the system should not be neglected.

Ion acoustic waves in the plasma with the power-law q-distribution in nonextensive statistics

We investigate the dispersion relation and Landau damping of ion acoustic waves in the collisionless magnetic-field-free plasma if it is described by the nonextensive q-distributions of Tsallis statistics. We show that the increased numbers of superthermal particles and low velocity particles can explain the strengthened and weakened modes of Landau damping, respectively, with the q-distribution. When the ion temperature is equal to the electron temperature, the weakly damped waves are found to be the distributions with small values of q.

Energy fluctuations and the ensemble equivalence in Tsallis statistics

We investigate the general property of the energy fluctuation for the canonical ensemble in Tsallis statistics and the ensemble equivalence. By taking the ideal gas and the non-interacting harmonic oscillators as examples, we show that, when the particle number N is large enough, the relative fluctuation of the energy is proportional to 1/N in the new statistics, instead of square root of 1/N in Boltzmann-Gibbs statistics. Thus the equivalence between the microcanonical and the canonical ensemble still holds in Tsallis statistics.

Property of Tsallis entropy and principle of entropy increase

The property of Tsallis entropy is examined when considering tow systems with different temperatures to be in contact with each other and to reach the thermal equilibrium. It is verified that the total Tsallis entropy of the two systems cannot decrease after the contact of the systems. We derived an inequality for the change of Tsallis entropy in such an example, which leads to a generalization of the principle of entropy increase in the framework of nonextensive statistical mechanics.

Nonextensivity and q-distribution of a relativistic gas under an external electromagnetic field

We investigate the nonextensivity and the q-distribution of a relativistic gas under an external electromagnetic field. We derive a formula expression of the nonextensive parameter q based on the relativistic generalized Boltzmann equation, the relativistic q-H theorem and the relativistic version of q-power-law distribution function in the nonextensive q-kinetic theory. We thus provide the connection between the parameter 1-q and the differentiation of the temperature field of the gas as well as the four-potential with respect to time and space coordinates, and therefore present the nonextensivity for the gas a clearly physical meaning.

Solar wind speed theory and the nonextensivity of solar corona

The solar corona is a complex system, with nonisothermal plasma and being in the self-gravitating field of the Sun. So the corona plasma is not only a nonequilibrium system but also a nonextensive one. We estimate the parameter of describing the degree of nonextensivity of the corona plasma and study the generalization of the solar wind speed theory in the framework of nonextensive statistical mechanics. It is found that, when use Chapman's corona model (1957) as the radial distribution of the temperature in the corona, the nonextensivity reduces the gas pressure outward and thus leads a significant deceleration effect on the radial speed of the solar wind.
