Local asymptotics for singular solutions to critical Hartree equations

For $n\geqslant3$ and $0<α<n$, we study positive classical solutions of critical Hartree equations that blow up at the origin. For the global problem on $\mathbb R^n\setminus\{0\}$, with the Hartree potential integrated over $\mathbb R^n$, we prove that solutions in $L^p(\mathbb R^n)$, where $p=(n+α)/(n-2)$, are radial and nonincreasing in $|x|$. We establish an integral representation and apply moving spheres to this nonlocal problem. For the local problem on $B_R\setminus\{0\}$, with the Hartree potential integrated over $B_R$, we prove $u(x)\leqslant C|x|^{-(n-2)/2}$ near the origin and \begin{equation*} u(x)=\bar u(|x|)\bigl(1+\mathcal O(|x|)\bigr)\qquad\text{as }x\to0, \end{equation*} where $\bar u$ is the spherical average of $u$. A main difficulty is controlling the nonlocal Hartree potential under Kelvin inversion and in the blow-up limit. The local proof combines blow-up analysis and moving spheres with estimates of the integral tails and an auxiliary Liouville lemma. We also give an alternative proof of the classification of positive $C^2$ solutions of the critical Hartree equation in $\mathbb R^n$.

Delaunay solutions to the fractional Hartree equation with critical growth

We study positive solutions of the critical fractional Hartree equation with a non-removable isolated singularity at the origin. This equation is doubly nonlocal, involving both the fractional Laplacian and a Riesz convolution potential. We first prove that every positive singular solution is radially symmetric about the origin, by combining the Caffarelli--Silvestre extension with the method of moving spheres. We then establish the existence of Delaunay-type periodic singular solutions. After the Emden--Fowler transformation, the Hartree convolution survives as a genuinely nonlocal integral term, so that the resulting periodic equation cannot be reduced to an ordinary differential equation. We construct nonconstant periodic solutions for all sufficiently large periods by minimizing a Rayleigh-type quotient in a periodic fractional Sobolev space.

Existence of Yamabe stability optimizers

We prove the existence of stability optimizers for the Yamabe inequality on closed Riemannian manifolds of dimension at least three with positive Yamabe invariant that satisfy two threshold conditions. Remarkably, the compactness threshold we uncover is different from the special case of the round sphere treated previously by the second author. More precisely, it is given by sequences blowing up in one instead of two bubbles, reflecting the compactness of Yamabe minimizers in the non-spherical case. Using the classical asymptotic analysis of Aubin--Schoen test functions, we prove that the stability constant is strictly below the one-bubble threshold in dimension at least six and when the manifold is not locally conformally flat. In the complementary case, namely in dimensions three through five or when the manifold is locally conformally flat, we find a new positive-mass-type condition which is sufficient for the strict inequality.

Quantitative stability for the Trudinger-Moser inequality

We establich quantitative stability estimates for the Trudinger-Moser inequality on smooth, bounded domains in the Euclidean plane. More specifically, we prove that the deficit in the Trudinger-Moser inequality quadratically controls the distance to the set of optimizers if either (i) the exponential rate of growth is sufficiently small or (ii) the domain is a round disk. The latter estimate remains valid even in the critical case. Both proofs rely on a new spectral gap that we prove, which may be of independent interest. Additionally we show that the same stability estimate holds in the nondegenerate case, and that this occurs generically.

Survey on topological methods for Allen--Cahn equations and systems

We present a survey on multiplicity results for the Allen--Cahn equation and systems in the singular perturbation regime, emphasizing their geometric interpretation through $Γ$-convergence and isoperimetric theory. In the scalar case, the Allen--Cahn functional converges to perimeter, giving rise to minimal and constant-mean-curvature hypersurfaces, while vectorial Allen--Cahn systems lead to multi-phase isoperimetric clusters. The main methodological tool discussed is the photography method, a variational-topological approach based on localized approximate solutions and barycenter maps, which enables one to encode the topology of the ambient manifold into multiplicity results. We compare problems posed on closed manifolds with those on manifolds with boundary, describing the distinct geometric effects induced by Neumann and Dirichlet boundary conditions. The survey highlights both the effectiveness and the limitations of this framework, particularly in the vectorial case, where the lack of a full classification of isoperimetric clusters creates fundamental analytical challenges.

Classification of fractional, singular Yamabe metrics on a twice punctured sphere I

The Delaunay metrics form a family of conformally flat, constant fractional Q-curvature metrics on a twice-punctured sphere. They are all (after a Möbius transformation) rotationally symmetric and periodic, and admit several elegant variational descriptions. We prove that, when s is close to but less than 1, any complete, conformally flat constant Q-curvature metric on a twice-punctured sphere is a Delaunay metric. Along the way, we prove a sharp a priori bound for the conformal factor of these metrics, which may be of independent interest.

A general nonuniqueness result for Yamabe-type problems for conformally variational Riemannian invariants

Given a conformally variational scalar Riemannian invariant $I$, we identify a sufficient condition for a compact Riemannian manifold to admit finite regular coverings with many nonhomothetic conformal rescalings with $I$ constant. We also identify a sufficient condition for the universal cover to admit infinitely many geometrically distinct periodic conformal rescalings with $I$ constant. Using these conditions, we improve known nonuniqueness results for the $Q$-curvatures of orders two, four, and six, and establish nonuniqueness results for higher-order $Q$-curvatures and renormalized volume coefficients.

Quantitative stability of the total $Q$-curvature near minimizing metrics

Under appropriate positivity hypotheses, we prove quantitative estimates for the total $k$-th order $Q$-curvature functional near minimizing metrics on any smooth, closed $n$-dimensional Riemannian manifold for every integer $1 \leq k < \frac{n}{2}$. More precisely, we show that on a generic closed Riemannian manifold the distance to the minimizing set of metrics is controlled quadratically by the $Q$-curvature energy deficit, extending recent work by Engelstein, Neumayer and Spolaor in the case $k=1$. Next we prove, for any integer $1 \leq k< \frac{n}{2}$, the existence of an $n$-dimensional Riemannian manifold such that the $k$-th order $Q$-curvature deficit controls a higher power of the distance to the minimizing set. We believe that these degenerate examples are of independent interest and can be used for further development in the field.

Complete metrics with constant fractional higher order $Q$-curvature on the punctured sphere

This manuscript is devoted to constructing complete metrics with constant higher fractional curvature on punctured spheres with finitely many isolated singularities. Analytically, this problem is reduced to constructing singular solutions for a conformally invariant integro-differential equation that generalizes the critical GJMS problem. Our proof follows the earlier construction in Ao {\it et al.} \cite{MR3694645}, based on a gluing method, which we briefly describe. Our main contribution is to provide a unified approach for fractional and higher order cases. This method relies on proving Fredholm properties for the linearized operator around a suitably chosen approximate solution. The main challenge in our approach is that the solutions to the related blow-up limit problem near isolated singularities need to be fully classified; hence we are not allowed to use a simplified ODE method. To overcome this issue, we approximate solutions near each isolated singularity by a family of half-bubble tower solutions. Then, we reduce our problem to solving an (infinite-dimensional) Toda-type system arising from the interaction between the bubble towers at each isolated singularity. Finally, we prove that this system's solvability is equivalent to the existence of a balanced configuration.

Nonuniqueness results for constant sixth order $Q$-curvature metrics on spheres with higher dimensional singularities

We prove nonuniqueness results for constant sixth order $Q$-metrics on complete locally conformally flat $n$-dimensional Riemannian manifolds with $n\geqslant 7$. More precisely, assuming a positive Green function exists for the sixth order GJMS operator, our objective is two-fold. First, we use a classical bifurcation technique to prove that there exists infinitely many constant $Q$-curvature metrics on $\mathbb{S}^1\times\mathbb{S}^{n-1}$. As a by-product, we find the sixth order Yamabe invariant on this product manifold can be arbitrarily close to that of the round dimensional sphere, generalizing a result of Schoen about the classical Yamabe invariant. Second, when the underlying manifold is noncompact, we apply a bifurcation technique on Riemannian covering to construct infinitely many complete metrics with constant sixth order $Q$-curvature conformal to $\mathbb{S}^{n_1} \times \mathbb{R}^{n_2}$ or $\mathbb{S}^{n_1} \times \mathbb{H}^{n_2}$, where $n_1+n_2\geqslant 7$. Consequently, we obtain infinitely many solutions to the singular constant GJMS equation on round spheres $\mathbb{S}^n\setminus \mathbb{S}^k$ blowing up along a minimal equatorial subsphere with $0 \leqslant k<\frac{n-6}{2}$; this dimension restriction is sharp in the topological sense.

Compactness of singular solutions to the sixth order GJMS equation

We study compactness properties of the set of conformally flat singular metrics with constant, positive sixth order Q-curvature on a finitely punctured sphere. Based on a recent classification of the local asymptotic behavior near isolated singularities, we introduce a notion of necksize for these metrics in our moduli space, which we use to characterize compactness. More precisely, we prove that if the punctures remain separated and the necksize at each puncture is bounded away from zero along a sequence of metrics, then a subsequence converges with respect to the Gromov--Hausdorff metric. Our proof relies on an upper bound estimate which is proved using moving planes and a blow-up argument. This is combined with a lower bound estimate which is a consequence of a removable singularity theorem. We also introduce a homological invariant which may be of independent interest for upcoming research.

Classification for positive singular solutions to critical sixth order equations

We classify entire positive singular solutions to a family of critical sixth order equations in the punctured space with a non-removable singularity at the origin. More precisely, we show that when the origin is a non-removable singularity, solutions are given by a singular radial factor times a periodic solution to a sixth order IVP with constant coefficients. On the technical level, we combine integral sliding methods and qualitative analysis of ODEs, based on a conservation of energy result, to perform a topological two-parameter shooting technique. We first use the integral representation of our equation to run a moving spheres technique, which proves that solutions are radially symmetric with respect to the origin. Thus, in Emden--Fowler coordinates, we can reduce our problem to the study of an sixth order autonomous ODE with constant coefficients. The main heuristics behind our arguments is that since all the indicial roots of the ODE operator are positive, it can be decomposed into the composition of three second order operators satisfying a comparison principle. This allows us to define a Hamiltonian energy which is conserved along solutions, from which we extract their qualitative properties, such as uniqueness, boundedness, asymptotic behavior, and classification.

Asymptotics for positive singular solutions to subcritical sixth order equations

We classify the local asymptotic behavior of positive singular solutions to a class of subcritical sixth order equations on the punctured ball. Initially, using a version of the integral moving spheres technique, we prove that solutions are asymptotically radially symmetric solutions with respect to the origin. We divide our approach into some cases concerning the growth of nonlinearity. In general, we use an Emden--Fowler change of variables to translate our problem to a cylinder. In the lower critical regime, this is not enough, thus, we need to introduce a new notion of change of variables. The difficulty is that the cylindrical PDE in this coordinate system is nonautonomous. Nonetheless, we define an associated nonautonomous Pohozaev functional, which can be proved to be asymptotically monotone. In addition, we show a priori estimates for these two functionals, from which we extract compactness properties. With this ingredients, we can perform an asymptotic analysis technique to prove our main result.

Constant Q-curvature metrics with Delaunay ends: the nondegenerate case

We construct a one-parameter family of solutions to the positive singular Q-curvature problem on compact nondegenerate manifolds of dimension bigger than four with finitely many punctures. If the dimension is at least eight we assume that the Weyl tensor vanishes to sufficiently high order at the singular points. On a technical level, we use perturbation methods and gluing techniques based on the mapping properties of the linearized operator both in a small ball around each singular point and in its exterior. Main difficulties in our construction include controlling the convergence rate of the Paneitz operator to the flat bi-Laplacian in conformal normal coordinates and matching the Cauchy data of the interior and exterior solutions; the latter difficulty arises from the lack of geometric Jacobi fields in the kernel of the linearized operator. We overcome both these difficulties by constructing suitable auxiliary functions.

Multiplicity of solutions to the multiphasic Allen-Cahn-Hilliard system with a small volume constraint on closed parallelizable manifolds

We prove the existence of multiple solutions to the Allen--Cahn--Hilliard (ACH) vectorial equation (with two equations) involving a triple-well (triphasic) potential with a small volume constraint on a closed parallelizable Riemannian manifold. More precisely, we find a lower bound for the number of solutions depending on some topological invariants of the underlying manifold. The phase transition potential is considered to have a finite set of global minima, where it also vanishes, and a subcritical growth at infinity. Our strategy is to employ the Lusternik--Schnirelmann and infinite-dimensional Morse theories for the vectorial energy functional. To this end, we exploit that the associated ACH energy $Γ$-converges to the weighted multi-perimeter for clusters, which combined with some deep theorems from isoperimetric theory yields the suitable setup to apply the photography method. Along the way, the lack of a closed analytic expression for the multi-isoperimetric function for clusters imposes a delicate issue. Furthermore, using a transversality theorem, we also show the genericity of the set of metrics for which solutions to the ACH system are nondegenerate.

Qualitative properties for solutions to conformally invariant fourth order critical systems

We study qualitative properties for nonnegative solutions to a conformally invariant coupled system of fourth order equations involving critical exponents. For solutions defined in the punctured space, there exist essentially two cases to analyze. If the origin is a removable singularity, we prove that non-singular solutions are rotationally invariant and weakly positive. More precisely, they are the product of a fourth order spherical solution by a unit vector with nonnegative coordinates. If the origin is a non-removable singularity, we show that the solutions are radially symmetric and strongly positive. Furthermore, using a Pohozaev-type invariant, we prove the non-existence of semi-singular solutions, that is, all components equally blow-up in the neighborhood of origin. Namely, they are classified as multiples of the Emden--Fowler solution. Our results are natural generalizations of the famous classification due to [L. A. Caffarelli, B. Gidas and J. Spruck, Comm. Pure Appl. Math. (1989)] on the classical singular Yamabe equation.

Asymptotics for singular solutions to conformally invariant fourth order systems in the punctured ball

We study the asymptotic behavior for singular solutions to a critical fourth order system generalizing the constant $Q$-curvature equation. Our main result extends to the case of strongly coupled systems, the celebrated asymptotic classification due to [L. A. Caffarelli, B. Gidas and J. Spruck, Comm. Pure Appl. Math. (1989)] and [N. Korevaar, R. Mazzeo, F. Pacard and R. Schoen, Invent. Math., (1999)]. On the technical level, we use an involved spectral analysis to study the Jacobi fields' growth properties in the kernel of the linearization of our system around a blow-up limit solution. Besides, we obtain sharp a priori estimates for the decay rate of singular solutions near the origin. Consequently, we prove that sufficiently close to the isolated singularity solutions behave like the so-called Emden--Fowler solution. Our main theorem positively answers a question posed by [R. L. Frank and T. König, Anal. PDE (2019)] concerning the local behavior close to the isolated singularity for scalar solutions in the punctured ball.

Qualitative properties for solutions to subcritical fourth order systems

We prove some qualitative properties for singular solutions to a class of strongly coupled system involving a Gross--Pitaevskii-type nonlinearity. Our main theorems are vectorial fourth order counterparts of the classical results of [J. Serrin, Acta Math. (1964)], [P.-L. Lions, J. Differential Equations (1980)], [P. Aviles, Comm. Math. Phys. (1987)], and [B. Gidas and J. Spruck, Comm. Pure Appl. Math. (1981)]. On the technical level, we use the moving sphere method to classify the limit blow-up solutions to our system. Besides, applying asymptotic analysis techniques, we show that these solutions are indeed the local models near the isolated singularity. We also introduce a new fourth order nonautonomous Pohozaev functional, whose monotonicity properties yield improvement for the asymptotics results due to [R. Soranzo, Potential Anal. (1997)].
