Variational non-gaussian approach to interacting spin-boson models

We apply a hybrid variational framework to interacting spin-boson Hamiltonians, targeting regimes where simulations are limited by the unbounded bosonic Hilbert space and strong many-body correlations. The bosonic sector and spin-boson correlations are captured within a compact non-Gaussian variational manifold, while the minimized spin sector is obtained as the solution to an effective spin Hamiltonian. Minimization is carried out inside a self-consistent energy-minimization loop, where variational parameters are minimized and the effective Hamiltonian is solved via DMRG. The results are obtained without eliminating or truncating the photonic field. We benchmark the method on the Dicke and Dicke-Ising models by comparison to converged spin-boson DMRG, finding accurate ground-state solutions with reduced bond dimension.

Role of Matter Interactions in Superradiant Phenomena

The superradiant phenomenon, usually described by the Dicke model, is a hallmark of strong light-matter interaction. We explore how matter-matter interactions influence this phenomenon by performing ground-state simulations of Dicke-like models with both isotropic and anisotropic spin couplings. We find that Ising-type interactions produce two qualitatively distinct phase boundaries, one of which gives rise to an antiferromagnetic-normal phase connected to the superradiant regime via a first-order phase transition. Under anisotropic couplings, we uncover a strongly correlated phase where in-plane spin order coexists with superradiance, exhibiting sublinear scaling of the photon occupation per site and power-law decay of spin correlations. Furthermore, superradiance can be strengthened by tuning either isotropic or anisotropic interactions, highlighting the role of intrinsic many-body correlations in shaping light-matter quantum phases.

Quantum simulation of extended electron-phonon coupling models in a hybrid Rydberg atom setup

State-of-the-art experiments using Rydberg atoms can now operate with large numbers of trapped particles with tunable geometry and long coherence time. We propose a way to utilize this in a hybrid setup involving neutral ground state atoms to efficiently simulate condensed matter models featuring electron-phonon coupling. Such implementation should allow for controlling the coupling strength and range as well as the band structure of both the phonons and atoms, paving the way towards studying both static and dynamic properties of extended Hubbard-Holstein models.
