Geometric approaches for improved regularity in fully nonlinear parabolic models

In this paper, we derive improved estimates for a class of fully nonlinear parabolic equations with continuous drift and admissible source terms of the form $$ \partial_{t}u - F(D^2u,x,t) + \langle B(x,t), Du\rangle = f(x, t, u^{+}, u^{-}) \quad \text{in}\quad Q_1. $$ Our analysis reveals two distinct regimes. In the first, $f=f(x,t)$ exhibits $θ$-Hölder decay ($θ\in(0,1)$), yielding improved gradient regularity at vanishing points via perturbative methods and geometric iteration, as well as nondegeneracy with explicit growth rates under a suitable structural condition. In the second, $f(\cdot,u^+,u^-)=(u^+)^γ-(u^-)^γ$ with $γ\in(0,1)$ (corresponding to an evolutionary semilinear two-phase model), we obtain enhanced regularity at branching points by combining a robust blow-up analysis with local derivative estimates for linear equations. Our results remain relevant even in linear settings with merely continuous data, linking to classical free boundary problems arising in mathematical physics and related areas.

Schauder estimates for a class of fully nonlinear elliptic PDEs: a geometric tangential approach

In this paper, we establish local and global Schauder estimates for classical solutions of a class of fully nonlinear elliptic partial differential equations, which are not necessarily convex or concave, under suitable Hölder continuity assumptions on the data. Our approach is based on a robust blow-up argument, combined with geometric tangential analysis and compactness techniques. This strategy is strongly influenced by methodologies developed in the contemporary theory of nonlinear elliptic PDEs.

A fully nonlinear two-phase Alt-Phillips problem with gradient nonlinearities

In this manuscript, we analyze a two-phase free boundary problem of Alt-Phillips-type driven by fully nonlinear elliptic equations with lower-order ingredients. More precisely, we consider equations of the type \[ F(x,D^{2}u)+\mathscr{H}(x,Du)=\mathscr{F}(x,u^{+},u^{-}) \quad \text{in } B_1 \subset \mathbb{R}^{n}, \] where the Hamiltonian term exhibits mixed linear and nonlinear gradient dependence, namely \[ \mathscr{H}(x,ξ):= \langle \mathcal{B}(x),ξ\rangle+\varrho(x)|ξ|^σ, \quad 0< σ\leq2, \,\,\, σ\neq 1, \] and the reaction is governed by a two-phase power-type nonlinearity of semilinear-type \[ \mathscr{F}(x,u^{+},u^{-}):=\mathfrak{g}(x)\big[(u^{+})^{m}-(u^{-})^{m}\big] \quad \text{for} \quad 0<m<1. \] Under suitable structural assumptions on the coefficients and the operator $F$, we develop a robust analytical framework to capture the fine properties of solutions near the free boundary. In particular, we establish improved growth estimates at higher-order singular nodal points, points where both phases meet and the solution exhibits critical degeneracy. The results are based upon a fine blow-up argument, stability and a Liouville-type theorem. We further prove quantitative non-degeneracy results, ensuring that solutions detach from zero at a controlled rate on each phase. As a consequence of our analysis, we derive a Liouville-type theorem for global solutions within this class. Our results extend and unify several previously known scenarios, and remain new even in the presence of gradient-dependent nonlinearities of order ($σ\neq 1$), thereby encompassing models with nonlinear drift and absorption effects arising in phase transition and reaction-diffusion phenomena.

Regularity for fully nonlinear degenerate parabolic equations with strong absorption

In this paper, we investigate dead-core problems for fully nonlinear degenerate parabolic equations with strong absorption, \begin{equation*} |Du|^{p} F(D^{2}u) - u_{t} = λ_{0}(x,t)\, u^μ\, χ_{\{u>0\}}(x,t) \qquad \text{in } \quad Q_{T} := Q \times (0,T), \end{equation*} where $0 \leq p < \infty$ and $0 < μ< 1$. We establish a sharp and improved parabolic $C^α$-regularity estimate along the free boundary $\partial \{ u > 0 \}$, where \[ α:= \frac{2+p}{1+p-μ} > 1 + \frac{1}{1+p}. \] Moreover, we establish weak geometric properties of solutions, such as non-degeneracy and uniform positive density. As an application, we obtain a Liouville-type theorem for entire solutions and gradient bounds. Finally, as a byproduct of our approach, we derive a novel $L^δ$-average estimate for fully nonlinear singular elliptic equations and present a new formulation of the gradient decay property. It is worth noting that the results presented here extend those in da Silva {\it et al.} ({\it Pacific J. Math}., \textbf{300} (2019), 179--213) and ({\it J. Differential Equations}., \textbf{264} (2018), 7270--7293) to the degenerate setting, and can be viewed as a parabolic analogue of da Silva {\it et al.} ({\it Math. Nachr}., \textbf{294} (2021), 38--55) and Teixeira ({\it Math. Ann}., \textbf{364} (2016), 1121--1134). Additionally, of independent mathematical interest, we emphasize that our manuscript establishes a comparison principle result and the compactness of viscosity solutions to fully nonlinear degenerate parabolic models with continuous and bounded forcing terms. These compactness and comparison properties serve as key ingredients in deriving enhanced regularity estimates along free boundary points for our model problem with strong absorption.

Gradient regularity for viscosity solutions to quasilinear parabolic equations with mixed singular-degenerate structure

We establish regularity results for viscosity solutions to a class of quasilinear parabolic equations exhibiting nonhomogeneous degeneracy or singularity (a double phase regime) of the form \[ u_t - \big(|Du|^{\mathfrak{p}} + \mathfrak{a}(x,t)|Du|^{\mathfrak{q}}\big)Δ_p^{\mathrm N} u = f(x,t) \quad \text{in } Q_1, \] where $-1 < \mathfrak{p} < 0$, $\mathfrak{p} \leq \mathfrak{q}$, and $\mathfrak{a}, f : Q_1 \to \mathbb{R}$ are prescribed functions. Using the Jensen--Ishii method, we prove Lipschitz regularity for appropriately translated solutions. Moreover, combining this approach with intrinsic scaling techniques, we establish interior Hölder continuity estimates for the gradient. Our results extend recent work of Fang and Zhang on the homogeneous case via a different approach.

Schauder estimates for flat solutions to a class of fully nonlinear elliptic PDEs with Dini continuous data: a geometric tangential approach

In this manuscript, we establish local Schauder estimates for flat viscosity solutions, that is, solutions with sufficiently small norms, to a class of fully nonlinear elliptic partial differential equations of the form \[ F(D^{2} u, x) + \langle \mathfrak{B}(x), D u \rangle = f(x) \quad \text{in} \quad \mathrm{B}_1 \subset \mathbb{R}^{n}, \] where the operator \(F\) is differentiable, though not necessarily convex or concave. In addition, we impose suitable Dini-type continuity assumptions on the data. Our methodology is based on geometric tangential techniques, combined with compactness and perturbative arguments. This approach is strongly motivated by recent advances in the theory of nonlinear elliptic equations and free boundary problems. As a byproduct of our analysis, we also obtain an Evans-Krylov type estimate. Our results can be viewed as an extension of the work by dos Prazeres and Teixeira (Ann. Sc. Norm. Super. Pisa Cl. Sci. (5) 15 (2016), 485-500), now within the framework of linear drift terms and Dini continuity assumptions. Finally, we apply our results to characterize the nodal sets of flat viscosity solutions of non-convex, fully nonlinear, uniformly elliptic PDEs.

Lipschitz regularity of weakly coupled vectorial almost-minimizers for Alt-Caffarelli functionals in Orlicz spaces

For a fixed constant $λ> 0$ and a bounded Lipschitz domain $Ω\subset \mathbb{R}^n$ with $n \geq 2$, we establish that almost-minimizers (functions satisfying a sort of variational inequality) of the Alt-Caffarelli type functional \[ \mathcal{J}_G({\bf v};Ω) \coloneqq \int_Ω\left(\sum_{i=1}^mG\big(|\nabla v_i(x)|\big) + λχ_{\{|{\bf v}|>0\}}(x)\right) dx , \] where ${\bf v} = (v_1, \dots, v_m)$ and $m \in \mathbb{N}$, exhibit optimal Lipschitz continuity on compact subsets of $Ω$, where $G$ is a Young function satisfying specific growth conditions. Furthermore, we obtain universal gradient estimates for non-negative almost-minimizers in the interior of non-coincidence sets. %{\color{blue}Furthermore, under the additional convexity assumption on $G$, we address the problem of boundary Lipschitz regularity for $v$ by adopting a fundamentally different analytical approach.} Notably, this method also provides an alternative proof of the optimal local Lipschitz regularity in the domain's interior. Our work extends the recent regularity results for weakly coupled vectorial almost-minimizers for the $p$-Laplacian addressed in \cite{BFS24}, and even the scalar case treated in \cite{daSSV}, \cite{DiPFFV24} and \cite{PelegTeix24}, thereby providing new insights and approaches applicable to a variety of non-linear one or two-phase free boundary problems with non-standard growth.

Our work extends the recent regularity results for weakly coupled vectorial almost-minimizers for the $p$-Laplacian addressed in \cite{BFS24}, thereby providing new insights and approaches applicable to a wide class of non-linear one or two-phase free boundary problems with non-standard growth. Our findings remain novel and significant even in the scalar setting and for minimizers of the type considered by Martínez--Wolanski \cite{MW08} and da Silva \textit{et al.} \cite{daSSV2024}.

Weighted Orlicz-Sobolev and variable exponent Morrey regularity for fully nonlinear parabolic PDEs with oblique boundary conditions and applications

In this manuscript, we establish global weighted Orlicz-Sobolev and variable exponent Morrey-Sobolev estimates for viscosity solutions to fully nonlinear parabolic equations subject to oblique boundary conditions on a portion of the boundary, within the following framework: \begin{equation*} \left\{ \begin{array}{rclcl} F(D^2u,Du,u,x,t) - u_{t} &=& f(x,t) & \text{in} & Ω_{\mathrm{T}}, \\ β\cdot Du + γu &=& g(x,t) & \text{on} & \mathrm{S}_{\mathrm{T}}, \\ u(x, 0) &=& 0 & \text{on} & Ω_{0}, \end{array} \right. \end{equation*} where \(Ω_{\mathrm{T}} = Ω\times (0,\mathrm{T})\) denotes the parabolic cylinder with spatial base \(Ω\) (a bounded domain in \(\mathbb{R}^{n}\), \(n \geq 2\)) and temporal height \(\mathrm{T} > 0\), \(\mathrm{S}_{\mathrm{T}} = \partial Ω\times (0,\mathrm{T})\), and \(Ω_{0} = Ω\times \{0\}\). Additionally, \(f\) represents the source term of the parabolic equation, while the boundary data are given by \(β\), \(γ\), and \(g\). Our first main result is a global weighted Orlicz-Sobolev estimate for the solution, obtained under asymptotic structural conditions on the differential operator and appropriate assumptions on the boundary data, assuming that the source term belongs to the corresponding weighted Orlicz space. Leveraging these estimates, we demonstrate several applications, including a density result within the fundamental class of parabolic equations, regularity results for the related obstacle problem, and weighted Orlicz-BMO estimates for both the Hessian and the time derivative of the solution. Lastly, we derive variable exponent Morrey-Sobolev estimates for the problem via an extrapolation technique, which are of independent mathematical interest.

Comparison Principle, A.B.P.-type estimates for solutions of quasi-linear elliptic equations in non-divergence form and some implications

In this work, we establish global gradient estimates to solutions of quasilinear elliptic models in non-divergence form with general degeneracy law and a Hamiltonian term, given by $$ -Ψ(x, |\nabla u|)Δ_p^{\mathrm{N}}u(x)+\mathscr{H}(x,\nabla u)=f(x) \quad \mathrm{in} \quad Ω, \quad \mathrm{for} \,\,\,1<p< \infty, $$ under suitable assumptions on the data of the problem. Particularly, our results are relevant for a class of quasi-linear models with Hamiltonian terms. Additionally, we address non-degeneracy estimates for such solutions and present a couple of applications.

Regularity estimates for quasilinear elliptic PDEs in non-divergence form with Hamiltonian terms and applications

In this manuscript, we investigate regularity estimates for a class of quasilinear elliptic equations in the non-divergence form that may exhibit degenerate behavior at critical points of their gradient. The prototype equation under consideration is $$ |\nabla u(x)|^θ\left( Δ_{p}^{\mathrm{N}} u(x) + \langle\mathfrak{B}(x), \nabla u\rangle \right) + \varrho(x) |\nabla u(x)|^σ = f(x) \quad \text{in} \quad B_1, $$ where $θ> 0$, $σ\in (θ, θ+ 1)$, and $p \in (1, \infty)$. The coefficients $\mathfrak{B}$ and $\varrho$ are bounded continuous functions, and the source term $f \in \mathrm{C}^{0}(B_1) \cap L^{\infty}(B_1)$. We establish interior $\mathrm{C}^{1,α}_{\text{loc}}$ regularity for some $α\in (0,1)$, along with sharp quantitative estimates at critical points of existing solutions. Additionally, we prove a non-degeneracy property and establish both a Strong Maximum Principle and a Hopf-type lemma. In the final part, we apply our analytical framework to study existence, uniqueness, improved regularity, and non-degeneracy estimates for Hénon-type models in the non-divergence form. These models incorporate strong absorption terms and linear/sublinear Hamiltonian terms and are of independent mathematical interest. Our results partially extend (for the non-variational quasilinear setting) the recent work by the second author in collaboration with Nornberg [Calc. Var. Partial Differential Equations 60 (2021), no. 6, Paper No. 202, 40 pp.], where sharp quantitative estimates were established for the fully nonlinear uniformly elliptic setting with Hamiltonian terms.

Higher regularity estimates for solutions to $\infty$-Laplacian-type models

In this work, we tackle the higher regularity estimates of solutions to inhomogeneous $\infty-$Laplacian equations at interior critical points. Our estimates provide smoothness properties better than the corresponding available regularity for the model with bounded forcing terms. We explore several scenarios, thereby obtaining improved regularity estimates, which depend on the universal parameters of the model. Our findings connect with nowadays well-known estimates developed for obstacle and dead-core type problems.

Geometric regularity estimates for quasi-linear elliptic models in non-divergence form with strong absorption

In this manuscript, we investigate geometric regularity estimates for problems governed by quasi-linear elliptic models in non-divergence form, which may exhibit either degenerate or singular behavior when the gradient vanishes, under strong absorption conditions of the form: \[ |\nabla u(x)|^γ Δ_p^{\mathrm{N}} u(x) = f(x, u) \quad \text{in} \quad B_1, \] where $γ> -1$, $p \in (1, \infty)$, and the mapping $u \mapsto f(x, u) \lesssim \mathfrak{a}(x) u_{+}^m$ (with $m \in [0, γ+ 1)$) does not decay sufficiently fast at the origin. This condition allows for the emergence of plateau regions, i.e., a priori unknown subsets where the non-negative solution vanishes identically. We establish improved geometric $\mathrm{C}^κ_{\text{loc}}$ regularity along the set $\mathscr{F}_0 = \partial \{u > 0\} \cap B_1$ (the free boundary of the model) for a sharp value of $κ\gg 1$, which is explicitly determined in terms of the structural parameters. Additionally, we derive non-degeneracy results and other measure-theoretic properties. Furthermore, we prove a sharp Liouville theorem for entire solutions exhibiting controlled growth at infinity.

Regularity estimates to quasi-linear parabolic equations in non-divergence form with non-homogeneous signature

In this manuscript, we establish the existence and sharp geometric regularity estimates for bounded solutions of a class of quasilinear parabolic equations in non-divergence form with non-homogeneous degeneracy. The model equation in this class is given by \[ \partial_{t} u = \left(|\nabla u|^{\mathfrak{p}} + \mathfrak{a}(x, t)|\nabla u|^{\mathfrak{q}}\right)Δ_{p}^{\mathrm{N}} u + f(x, t) \quad \text{in} \quad Q_1 = B_1 \times (-1, 0], \] where $p \in (1, \infty)$, $\mathfrak{p}, \mathfrak{q} \in [0, \infty)$, and $\mathfrak{a}, f: Q_1 \to \mathbb{R}$ are suitably defined functions. Our approach is based on geometric tangential methods, incorporating a refined oscillation mechanism, compactness arguments, ``alternative methods,'' and scaling techniques. Furthermore, we derive pointwise estimates in settings exhibiting singular-degenerate or doubly singular signatures. To some extent, our regularity estimates refine and extend previous results from \cite{FZ23} through distinct methodological advancements. Finally, we explore connections between our findings and fundamental nonlinear models in the theory of quasilinear PDEs, which may be of independent interest.

Improved regularity estimates for Hardy-Hénon-type equations driven by the $\infty$-Laplacian

In this work, we establish sharp and improved regularity estimates for viscosity solutions of Hardy-Hénon-type equations with possibly singular weights and strong absorption governed by the $\infty$-Laplacian $$ Δ_{\infty} u(x) = |x|^αu_+^m(x) \quad \text{in} \quad B_1, $$ under suitable assumptions on the data. In this setting, we derive an explicit regularity exponent that depends only on universal parameters. Additionally, we prove non-degeneracy properties, providing further geometric insights into the nature of these solutions. Our regularity estimates not only improve but also extend, to some extent, the previously obtained results for zero-obstacle and dead-core problems driven by the $\infty$-Laplacian. As an application of our findings, we also address some Liouville-type results for this class of equations.

Sharp and improved regularity estimates for weighted quasilinear elliptic equations of $p-$Laplacian type and applications

In this manuscript, we obtain sharp and improved regularity estimates for weak solutions of weighted quasilinear elliptic models of Hardy-Hénon-type, featuring an explicit regularity exponent depending only on universal parameters. Our approach is based on geometric tangential methods and uses a refined oscillation mechanism, compactness, and scaling techniques. In some specific scenarios, we establish higher regularity estimates and non-degeneracy properties, providing further geometric insights into such solutions. Our regularity estimates both enhance and, to some extent, extend the results arising from the $C^{p^{\prime}}$ conjecture for the $p$-Laplacian with a bounded source term. As applications of our results, we address some Liouville-type results for our class of equations. Finally, our results are noteworthy, even in the simplest model case governed by the $p$-Laplacian with regular coefficients: $$ \mathrm{div}\left( |\nabla u|^{p-2}\mathfrak{A}(|x|) \nabla u\right) = |x|^αu_+^m(x) \quad \text{in} \quad B_1 $$ under suitable assumptions on the data, with possibly singular weight $\mathfrak{h}(|x|) = |x|^α$, which includes the Matukuma and Batt-Faltenbacher-Horst's equations as toy models.

Universal regularity estimates for solutions to fully nonlinear elliptic equations with oblique boundary data

In this work, we establish universal moduli of continuity for viscosity solutions to fully nonlinear elliptic equations with oblique boundary conditions, whose general model is given by $$ \left\{ \begin{array}{rcl} F(D^2u,x) &=& f(x) \quad \mbox{in} \,\, Ω\\ β(x) \cdot Du(x) + γ(x) \, u(x)&=& g(x) \quad \mbox{on} \,\, \partial Ω. \end{array} \right. $$ Such regularity estimates are achieved by exploring the integrability properties of $f$ based on different scenarios, making a $\text{VMO}$ assumption on the coefficients of $F$, and by considering suitable smoothness properties on the boundary data $β, γ$ and $g$. Particularly, we derive sharp estimates for borderline cases where $f \in L^n(Ω)$ and $f\in p-\textrm{BMO}(Ω)$. Additionally, for source terms in $L^p(Ω)$, for $p \in (n, \infty)$, we obtain sharp gradient estimates. Finally, we also address Schauder-type estimates for convex/concave operators and suitable Hölder data.

Lipschitz regularity of almost minimizers in a Bernoulli problem with non-standard growth

Moreover, of independent mathematical interest, we also address a Höder regularity characterization via Campanato-type estimates in the context of Orlicz modulars, which is new for such a class of non-standard growth functionals.
