Search for Rare b-hadron Decays at CDF

We report on searches for B^0_s to μ^+ μ^-, B^0_d to μ^+ μ^- decays and b to s μ^+μ^- transitions in exclusive decays of B mesons. Using 2 fb^{-1} of data collected by the CDF II detector we find upper limits on the branching fractions B(B^0_s to μ^+ μ^-) < 5.8 x 10^{-8} and B(B^0_d to μ^+ μ^-) < 1.8 x 10^{-8} at 95% confidence level. Using 924 pb^{-1} of data we measure the branching fractions B(B^+ to μ^+ μ^- K^+) = (0.60 \pm 0.15 \pm 0.04) x 10^{-6}, B(B^0_d to μ^+ μ^- K^{*0}) = (0.82 \pm 0.31 \pm 0.10) x 10^{-6} and the limit B(B^0_s to μ^+ μ^- phi)/B(B^0_s to J/ψϕ) < 2.61(2.30) x 10^{-3} at 95(90)% confidence level.

Measurement of b-Baryons with the CDF II detector

We report the observation of new bottom baryon states. The most recent result is the observation of the baryon Ξ_b^- through the decay Ξ_b^- to J/ψΞ^-. The significance of the signal corresponds to 7.7 sigma and the Ξ_b^- mass is measured to be 5792.9 \pm 2.5(stat.) \pm 1.7(syst.) MeV/c^2. In addition we observe four resonances in the Λ_b^0 π^{\pm} spectra, consistent with the bottom baryons Σ_b^{(*)\pm}. All observations are in agreement with theoretical expectations.
