Full electroweak one-loop radiative corrections to squark decays in the MSSM

We present results on the full one-loop electroweak radiative corrections to the squark decay partial widths into charginos and neutralinos. We show the renormalization framework, and present numerical results for the third squark family. The corrections can reach values of ~ 10%, which are comparable to the radiative corrections from the strong sector of the model. Therefore they should be taken into account for the precise extraction of the SUSY parameters at future colliders.

'Steckbrief' Lambda

The phenomenology of the FLRW models with non-vanishing cosmological constant (CC) is briefly surveyed in the light of the recent astrophysical and cosmological observations. A subset of these models, which probably includes the world where we live, is singled out by the combined data from high redshift Type Ia supernovae, CMBR and the cosmic inventory of matter in our universe. The kinematical success of a non-vanishing CC, however, leaves open many dynamical questions in quantum field theory. A semiclassical renormalization group approach to the CC might perhaps shed some light on them. In this context, the CC is naturally non-zero simply because it is a running parameter.

Radiative Corrections to scalar quark decays in the MSSM

We review the one-loop corrections to the partial decay width of sbottom-quark into a top quark and a chargino for the parameter space relevant to the TESLA e+e- linear collider. We present the results available in the literature for the QCD and the Yukawa coupling corrections in a unified framework. In this way a direct comparison of the size of the various corrections is possible.

On the scaling behavior of the cosmological constant and the possible existence of new forces and new light degrees of freedom

A large value of the cosmological constant (CC) is induced in the Standard Model (SM) of Elementary Particle Physics because of Spontaneous Symmetry Breaking. To provide a small value of the observable CC one has to introduce the vacuum term which cancels the induced one at some point in the very far infrared cosmic scale. Starting from this point we investigate whether the cancellation is preserved at different energy scales. We find that the running of the Higgs mass, couplings and the vacuum term inevitably result in a scaling dependence of the observable CC value. As a consequence one meets a nonzero CC at an energy scale comparable to the typical electron neutrino mass suggested by some experiments, and the order of magnitude of this constant is roughly the one derived from recent supernovae observations. However the sign of it is negative -- opposite to what is suggested by these observations. This discrepancy may be a hint of the existence of an extra very light scalar, perhaps a Cosmon-like dilaton, which should essentially decouple from the SM Lagrangian, but that it nevertheless could mediate new macroscopic forces in the submillimeter range.

Top quark decays into neutral Higgs bosons and gluon in the MSSM

Flavour changing neutral decays of the top quark are know to be extremely suppressed in the SM. This is especially so for the top quark decay into the SM Higgs boson, whose rate is less than 10^-13. However, it turns out that the decay modes t->c h, with h= h^0,H^0,A^0 any of the MSSM neutral Higgs bosons, can be much more gifted. In particular, the rate into the lightest CP-even Higgs boson h^0 -- which is an accessible decay mode across the whole MSSM parameter space -- is generally higher than the decay into glue, t->c g, even though the latter can also be considerably augmented in the MSSM. Our general conclusion is that the Higgs channel t->c h^0 can be the ``gold-plated'' top quark FCNC decay mode in the MSSM with rates that can reach 10^-4, i.e. already at the visible level for both LHC and LC.

Top quark and charged Higgs at the Tevatron-Run II

We shortly review the top quark decay into charged Higgs, and present new results on its production at the upgraded Tevatron. We have computed the MSSM cross-section for single charged Higgs in association with the top quark beyond the regime of on-shell t t-bar production followed by the decay t -> H+ b. Our results are higher than recent results in the literature. In the case where H+ belongs to the Higgs sector of the MSSM, we show that the leading supersymmetric radiative corrections may substantially increase the cross-section. Overall we find that the charged Higgs production process can be complementary to the neutral Higgs production processes WΦand b b-barΦ, which have been studied under similar circumstances. Since the neutral and charged Higgs channels are enhanced in the same region of the parameter space, the simultaneous detection of all these processes could be essential for an effective experimental underpinning of the nature of these Higgs particles at the Tevatron-Run II.

FCNC top quark decay in the MSSM: a door to SUSY physics in high luminosity colliders?

We study the FCNC top quark decays t -> c h in the framework of the MSSM, where h= h^0,H^0,A^0 is any of the supersymmetric neutral Higgs bosons. We include the leading set of SUSY-QCD and SUSY electroweak contributions. While the FCNC top quark decay into the SM Higgs boson has such a negligible rate that will not be accessible to any presently conceivable accelerator, we find that there is a chance that the potential rates in the MSSM can be measured at the high luminosity colliders round the corner, especially at the LHC and possibly at a future LC, but we deem it difficult at the upgraded Tevatron. In view of the large SUSY-QCD effects that we find in the Higgs channels, and due to some discrepancies in the literature, we have revisited the FCNC top quark decay into gluon, t -> c g, in our framework. We confirm that the possibility of sizeable rates does not necessarily require a general pattern of gluino-mediated FCNC interactions affecting both the LH and the RH sfermion sectors -- the LH one being sufficient. However, given the present bounds on sparticle masses, the gluon channel turns out to lie just below the expected experimental sensibility, so our general conclusion is that the Higgs channels t -> c h (especially the one for the light CP-even Higgs) have the largest potential top quark FCNC rates in the MSSM, namely of order 10^-4.

Radiative corrections to top quark decay into charged Higgs at the Tevatron

We present the computation of the leading one-loop electroweak radiative corrections to the non-standard top quark decay width Gamma(t->H+ b), using a physically motivated definition of tan(beta). We find that the corrections are large, both in the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM) and the Two-Higgs-Doublet Model (2HDM). These corrections have an important effect on the interpretation of the Tevatron data, leading to the non-existence of a model-independent bound in the tan(beta)-MH+ plane.

Top quark decay into charged Higgs boson in a general Two-Higgs-Doublet model: implications for the TEVATRON data

We analyze the unconventional top quark decay mode t -> H^+ b at the quantum level within the context of general Two-Higgs-Doublet models by including the full electroweak effects from the Yukawa couplings. The results are presented in the on-shell renormalization scheme with a physically well motivated definition of tan(beta). While the QCD corrections have been taken into account in the current experimental analyses of that decay, the electroweak effects have always been neglected. However, we find that they can be rather large and could dramatically alter the interpretation of the present data from the Tevatron collider. For instance, in large portions of the parameter space the electroweak effects prevent the Tevatron data from placing any bound at all to the charged Higgs mass for essentially any value of tan(beta).

Yukawa-coupling corrections to scalar quark decays

Heavy squark decays into top and charginos or neutralinos could be an unexpected source of top quarks at hadron colliders. A detailed treatment of these processes is necessary for a reliable calculation of both the top quark production cross-section and the standard top quark branching ratio in the MSSM. Along this line we compute the electroweak corrections to the sbottom decays sbottom_a --> chargino_i top within the Yukawa coupling approximation. The calculation of these higher order contributions requires renormalization of both the bottom squark mixing angle and of tan(beta). This type of corrections gives the leading order electroweak effects at low and high tan(beta).

Quantum SUSY signatures in low and high energy processes

In the search for phenomenological evidence of supersymmetry through the indirect method of quantum signatures, it is useful to seek correlations of the non-standard quantum effects in low and high energy proceses, such as those involving on one hand the properties of the B-mesons and on the other hand the physics of the top quark and of the Higgs bosons. There are regions of the MSSM parameter space where the potential quantum SUSY signatures in the two energy regimes are strongly interwoven and therefore the eventual detection of these correlated quantum effects would strongly point towards the existence of underlying supersymmetric dynamics.

t --> W+ b and t --> H+ b at the quantum level in the MSSM

We compare the standard top quark decay and the charged Higgs decay of the top quark, t --> W+ b and t --> H+ b, at the quantum level in the MSSM. While the SUSY loop corrections to the standard top quark decay are only of a few percent, it turns out that t --> H+ b is a most promising candidate for carrying large quantum SUSY signatures. As a result, the (tan(beta), M_{H+-}) exclusion plots presented by the CDF Collaboration should be thoroughly revised in the light of the MSSM.

Supersymmetric Quantum Effects on the hadronic width of a heavy charged Higgs boson in the MSSM

We discuss the QCD and leading electroweak corrections to the hadronic width of the charged Higgs boson of the MSSM. In our renormalization framework, tan(beta) is defined through Gamma(H^+ -> tau^+ nu_{tau}). We show that a measurement of the hadronic width of H^\pm and/or of the branching ratio of its tau-decay mode with a modest precision of ~20% could be sufficient to unravel the supersymmetric nature of H^\pm in full consistency with the low-energy data from radiative B-meson decays.

Heavy charged Higgs boson decaying into top quark in the MSSM

Observing a heavy charged Higgs boson produced in the near future at the Tevatron or at the LHC would be instant evidence of physics beyond the Standard Model. Whether such a Higgs boson would be supersymmetric or not it could only be decided after accurate prediction of its properties. Here we compute the decay width of the dominant decay of such a boson, namely H^+ -> t \bar{b}, including the leading electroweak corrections originating from large Yukawa couplings within the MSSM. These electroweak effects turn out to be of comparable size to the O(alpha_s) QCD corrections in relevant portions of the MSSM parameter space. Our analysis incorporates the stringent low-energy constraints imposed by radiative B-meson decays.

Implications on the Supersymmetric Higgs sector from Top quark decays at the Tevatron

From the tau-lepton analysis of the charged Higgs decay of the top quark at the Tevatron, t -> H+ b -> tau+ nu_{tau} b, it is possible to set rather stringent bounds on the (tan(beta),M_{H+})-plane, if one assumes that H+ is a charged member of a generic two-Higgs-doublet model. However, if we consider the possibility that H+ is supersymmetric, then we find that the allowed region in the (tan(beta),M_{H+})-plane can be significantly modified by the MSSM quantum corrections. Throughout our analysis we correlate the top quark results with the limits imposed by radiative and semileptonic B-meson decays. Remarkably, one can envision situations in the MSSM parameter space where H+ completely eludes those bounds, i.e. a charged Higgs with a mass below the top quark mass could coexist with essentially any value of tan(beta).

The tan(beta) - M_H^\pm bound from inclusive semi-tauonic B-decays in the MSSM

We compute the O(alpha_s) SUSY-QCD corrections to the W and charged Higgs mediated inclusive semi-tauonic B-decay, B->tau antineutrino_tau X. Combining the SUSY contribution with the SM result obtained from the heavy quark effective field theory, plus ordinary QCD corrections, we find that the allowed region in the (tan(beta),M_H^\pm)-plane could be significantly modified by the short-distance supersymmetric effects. Since the sensitivity to the SUSY parameters other than mu (the higgsino mixing mass) is rather low, the following effective bound emerges for mu<0 at the 2 sigma level: tan(beta)~< 0.43 (M_H^\pm/GeV). Remarkably, for mu>0 there could be no bound at all. Finally, we provide a combined (tan(beta,M_H^\pm) exclusion plot using our B-meson results together with the recent data from top quark decays.
