The classification of CMC foliations of $\mathbb{R}^3$ and $\mathbb{S}^3$ with countably many singularities

In this paper we generalize the Local Removable Singularity Theorem in [16] for minimal laminations to the case of weak $H$-laminations (with $H\in \mathbb{R}$ constant) in a punctured ball of a Riemannian three-manifold. We also obtain a curvature estimate for any weak CMC foliation (with possibly varying constant mean curvature from leaf to leaf) of a compact Riemannian three-manifold $N$ with boundary solely in terms of a bound of the absolute sectional curvature of $N$ and of the distance to the boundary of $N$. We then apply these results to classify weak CMC foliations of $\mathbb{R}^3$ and $\mathbb{S}^3$ with a closed countable set of singularities.

Local removable singularity theorems for minimal laminations

In this paper we prove a local removable singularity theorem for certain minimal laminations with isolated singularities in a Riemannian three-manifold. This removable singularity theorem is the key result used in our proof that a complete, embedded minimal surface in $\mathbb{R}^3$ with quadratic decay of curvature has finite total curvature.

Constant mean curvature spheres in homogeneous three-spheres

We give a complete classification of the immersed constant mean curvature spheres in a three-sphere with an arbitrary homogenous metric, by proving that for each $H\in\mathbb{R}$, there exists a constant mean curvature $H$-sphere in the space that is unique up to an ambient isometry.

Isoperimetric domains of large volume in homogeneous three-manifolds

Given a non-compact, simply connected homogeneous three-manifold $X$ and a sequence $\{Ω_n\}_n$ of isoperimetric domains in $X$ with volumes tending to infinity, we prove that as $n\to \infty $: 1. The radii of the $Ω_n$ tend to infinity. 2. The ratios $\{Area} (\partial Ω_n)/\{Vol}(Ω_n)$ converge to the Cheeger constant Ch$(X)$, which we also prove to be equal to $2H(X)$ where $H(X)$ is the critical mean curvature of $X$. 3. The values of the constant mean curvatures $H_n$ of the boundary surfaces $\partial Ω_n$ converge to $\frac{1}{2}\{Ch}(X)$. Furthermore, when Ch$(X)$ is positive, we prove that for $n$ large, $\partial Ω_n$ is well-approximated in a natural sense by the leaves of a certain foliation of $X$, where every leaf of the foliation is a surface of constant mean curvature $H(X)$.

Parabolic stable surfaces with constant mean curvature

We prove that if u is a bounded smooth function in the kernel of a nonnegative Schrodinger operator $-L=-(Δ+q)$ on a parabolic Riemannian manifold M, then u is either identically zero or it has no zeros on M, and the linear space of such functions is 1-dimensional. We obtain consequences for orientable, complete stable surfaces with constant mean curvature $H\in\mathbb{R}$ in homogeneous spaces $\mathbb{E}(κ,τ)$ with four dimensional isometry group. For instance, if M is an orientable, parabolic, complete immersed surface with constant mean curvature H in $\mathbb{H}^2\times\mathbb{R}$, then $|H|\leq 1/2$ and if equality holds, then M is either an entire graph or a vertical horocylinder.

Properly embedded minimal planar domains with infinite topology are Riemann minimal examples

These notes outline recent developments in classical minimal surface theory that are essential in classifying the properly embedded minimal planar domains M in R^3 with infinite topology (equivalently, with an infinite number of ends). This final classification result by Meeks, Perez, and Ros states that such an M must be congruent to a homothetic scaling of one of the classical examples found by Riemann in 1860. These examples {\cal R}_s, 0 }, are singly-periodic and intersect each horizontal plane in R^3 in a circle or a line parallel to the x-axis. Earlier work by Collin, Lopez and Ros and Meeks and Rosenberg demonstrate that the plane, the catenoid and the helicoid are the only properly embedded minimal surfaces of genus zero with finite topology (equivalently, with a finite number of ends). Since the surfaces {\cal R}_s converge to a catenoid as s tends to 0 and to a helicoid as s tends to infinity, then the moduli space {\cal M} of all properly embedded, non-planar, minimal planar domains in R^3 is homeomorphic to the closed unit interval [0,1].

Limit leaves of a CMC lamination are stable

Suppose ${\cal L}$ is a lamination of a Riemannian manifold by hypersurfaces with the same constant mean curvature. We prove that every limit leaf of ${\cal L}$ is stable for the Jacobi operator. A simple but important consequence of this result is that the set of stable leaves of ${\cal L}$ has the structure of a lamination.

The classification of doubly periodic minimal tori with parallel ends

Let $\mathcal{K}$ be the space of properly embedded minimal tori in quotients of $\R^3$ by two independent translations, with any fixed (even) number of parallel ends. After an appropriate normalization, we prove that $\mathcal{K}$ is a 3-dimensional real analytic manifold that reduces to the finite coverings of the examples defined by Karcher, Meeks and Rosenberg in \cite{ka4,ka6,mr3}. The degenerate limits of surfaces in $\mathcal{K}$ are the catenoid, the helicoid and three 1-parameter families of surfaces: the simply and doubly periodic Scherk minimal surfaces and the Riemann minimal examples.
