High-Temperature Limit of Landau-Gauge Yang-Mills Theory

The infrared properties of the high-temperature limit of Landau-gauge Yang-Mills theory are investigated. In a first step the high-temperature limit of the Dyson-Schwinger equations is taken. The resulting equations are identical to the Dyson-Schwinger equations of the dimensionally reduced theory, a three-dimensional Yang-Mills theory coupled to an effective adjoint Higgs field. These equations are solved analytically in the infrared and ultraviolet, and numerically for all Euclidean momenta. We find infrared enhancement for the Faddeev-Popov ghosts, infrared suppression for transverse gluons and a mass for the Higgs. These results imply long-range interactions and over-screening in the chromomagnetic sector of high temperature Yang-Mills theory while in the chromoelectric sector only screening is observed.

Towards the Finite Temperature Gluon Propagator in Landau Gauge Yang-Mills Theory

Yang-Mills theories undergo a deconfining phase transition at a critical temperature. In lattice calculations the temporal Wilson loop and Z_3 order parameter show above this temperature a behavior typical of deconfinement. A quantity of interest in the study of this transition is the gluon propagator and its evolution with temperature. This contribution describes the current status of an investigation of the finite temperature gluon propagator in Landau gauge. It analyzes the high temperature case. The resulting equations are compared to the corresponding ones of three-dimensional Yang-Mills theory. Under certain assumptions it is found that a kind of spatial "confinement" is still present, even at very high temperatures.

Kaon Condensation in Neutron Stars

We discuss the kaon-nucleon interaction and its consequences for the change of the properties of the kaon in the medium. The onset of kaon condensation in neutron stars under various scenarios as well its effects for neutron star properties are reviewed.

Skyrmion dynamics on the unstable manifold and the nucleon-nucleon interaction

The unstable manifold of the B=2 sector of the Skyrme model is constructed numerically using the gradient-flow method. Following paths of steepest descent from the B=2 hedgehog, we apply a collective coordinate description for the motion on the manifold to extract a Hamiltonian, approximately valid for the quantum description of the low-energy nucleon-nucleon interaction. The resulting potential - obtained in the Born-Oppenheimer approximation - is in qualitative agreement with phenomenological potentials.

Nonhermitean Random Matrix Models : a Free Random Variable Approach

Using the standard concepts of free random variables, we show that for a large class of nonhermitean random matrix models, the support of the eigenvalue distribution follows from their hermitean analogs using a conformal transformation. We also extend the concepts of free random variables to the class of nonhermitean matrices, and apply them to the models discussed by Ginibre-Girko (elliptic ensemble) and Mahaux-Weidenmüller (chaotic resonance scattering).

Stability of the B=2 hedgehog in the Skyrme model

We study the unstable modes of the baryon number two hedgehog of the Skyrme model on a three dimensional spatial lattice. An expansion of the Skyrme Lagrangian around the hedgehog configuration provides the equations of motion for the fluctuation fields solvable numerically via a relaxation method. We find the negative energy modes and, by evolving the excited hedgehog in time, a breakup into two separated solitonic configurations is obtained. Different paths of descent for the receding Skyrmions are presented and the possibility of determining the metric structure of the collective-coordinate manifold is discussed.
