The cone theorem for effective fourfold pairs in characteristic $p>5$

Assuming the log resolution conjecture for all log pairs birational to $X$, we prove the cone theorem for projective log canonical, $\mathbb{Q}$-factorial fourfold pairs $(X,\Delta)$ such that $K_X +\Delta\equiv M \geq 0$ over bases of positive and mixed characteristic $p > 5$.

On rational chain connectedness of globally +-regular varieties

We prove that globally $+$-regular varieties are rationally chain connected in dimension three and mixed characteristic with residue field characteristic $p>5$. We also introduce a notion of strongly globally $+$-regular, and show that varieties of arbitrary dimension which are strongly globally $+$-regular over a dense open subset of $\mathrm{Spec}(\mathbb{Z})$ are rationally chain connected.

Perfectoid pure singularities

Fix a prime number $p$. Inspired by the notion of $F$-pure or $F$-split singularities, we study the condition that a Noetherian ring with $p$ in its Jacobson radical is pure inside some perfectoid (classical) ring, a condition we call perfectoid pure. We also study a related a priori weaker condition which asks that $R$ is pure in its absolute perfectoidization, a condition we call lim-perfectoid pure. We show that both these notions coincide when $R$ is LCI. Mixed characteristic analogs of $F$-injective and Du Bois singularities are also explored. We study these notions of singularity, proving that they are weakly normal and that they are Du Bois after inverting $p$. We also explore the behavior of \claperfdpure singularities under finite covers and their relation to log canonical singularities. Finally, we prove an inversion of adjunction result in the LCI setting, and use it to prove that many common examples are perfectoid pure.

Test ideals in mixed characteristic: a unified theory up to perturbation

Let $X$ be an integral scheme of finite type over a complete DVR of mixed characteristic. We provide a definition of a test ideal which agrees with the multiplier ideal after inverting $p$, is computed from a sufficiently large alteration, agrees with previous mixed characteristic BCM test ideals after completing at any point of residue characteristic $p$ (up to small perturbation), and which satisfies the full suite of expected properties of a multiplier or test ideal. This object is obtained via the $p$-adic Riemann-Hilbert functor.

Mori fibre spaces for $3$-folds over imperfect fields

We prove that the LMMP works for projective threefolds over function fields of characteristic $p>5$ when the canonical divisor is not pseudo-effective. In the process we show that ACC for log canonical thresholds holds in complete generality for threefolds in residue characteristic $p>5$.

On the log minimal model program for $3$-folds over imperfect fields of characteristic $p>5$

We prove that many of the results of the LMMP hold for $3$-folds over fields of characteristic $p>5$ which are not necessarily perfect. In particular, the existence of flips, the cone theorem, the contraction theorem for birational extremal rays, and the existence of log minimal models. As well as pertaining to the geometry of fibrations of relative dimension $3$ over algebraically closed fields, they have applications to tight closure in dimension $4$.

An analog of adjoint ideals and PLT singularities in mixed characteristic

We use the framework of perfectoid big Cohen-Macaulay algebras to define a class of singularities for pairs in mixed characteristic, which we call purely BCM-regular singularities, and a corresponding adjoint ideal. We prove that these satisfy adjunction and inversion of adjunction with respect to the notion of BCM-regularity and the BCM test ideal defined by the first two authors. We compare them with the existing equal characteristic PLT and purely $F$-regular singularities and adjoint ideals. As an application, we obtain a uniform version of the Briançon-Skoda theorem in mixed characteristic. We also use our theory to prove that two-dimensional KLT singularities are BCM-regular if the residue characteristic $p>5$, which implies an inversion of adjunction for three-dimensional PLT pairs of residue characteristic $p>5$. In particular, divisorial centers of PLT pairs in dimension three are normal when $p > 5$. Furthermore, in the appendix we provide a streamlined construction of perfectoid big Cohen-Macaulay algebras and show new functoriality properties for them using the perfectoidization functor of Bhatt and Scholze.

Structure of geometrically non-reduced varieties

We prove a structural result for geometrically non-reduced varieties and give applications to Fano varieties. For example, we show that if $X$ is the generic fibre of a Mori fibre space of relative dimension $n$, and the characteristic is $p>2n+1$, then any geometric non-reducedness of $X$ comes from the base of some fibration.

Connectedness principle for $3$-folds in characteristic $p>5$

A conjecture, known as the Shokurov-Koll\'ar connectedness principle, predicts the following. Let $(X,B)$ be a pair, and let $f \colon X \rightarrow S$ be a contraction with $-(K_X + B)$ nef over $S$; then, for any point $s \in S$, the intersection $f^{-1} (s) \cap \mathrm{Nklt}(X,B)$ has at most two connected components, where $\mathrm{Nklt}(X,B)$ denotes the non-klt locus of $(X,B)$. This conjecture has been extensively studied in characteristic zero, and it has been recently settled in that context. In this work, we consider this conjecture in the setup of positive characteristic algebraic geometry. We prove this conjecture holds for threefolds in characteristic $p> 5$, and, under the same assumptions, we characterize the cases in which $\mathrm{Nklt}(X,B)$ fails to be connected.

Singularities of General Fibers and the LMMP

We use the theory of foliations to study the relative canonical divisor of a normalized inseparable base-change. Our main technical theorem states that it is linearly equivalent to a divisor with positive integer coefficients divisible by $p-1$. We deduce many consequences about the fibrations of the minimal model program: for example the general fibers of terminal $3$-fold Mori fiber spaces are normal in characteristic $p\geq 5$ and smooth in characteristic $p\geq 11$.

The LMMP for log canonical 3-folds in char $p$

We prove that one can run the log minimal model program for log canonical $3$-fold pairs in characteristic $p>5$. In particular we prove the Cone Theorem, Contraction Theorem, the existence of flips and the existence of log minimal models for pairs with log divisor numerically equivalent to an effective divisor. These follow from our main results, which are that certain log minimal models are good.

Existence of Mori fibre spaces for 3-folds in char $p$

We prove the following results for projective klt pairs of dimension $3$ over an algebraically closed field of char $p>5$: the cone theorem, the base point free theorem, the contraction theorem, finiteness of minimal models, termination with scaling, existence of Mori fibre spaces, etc.
