Unified first law of thermodynamics in Gauss-Bonnet gravity on an FLRW background

Employing the thermodynamic unified first law through the thermodynamic-gravity conjecture, in this article, we derive for a FLRW universe the Friedmann equations in the framework of Gauss-Bonnet gravity theory. To do this, we project this generalized first law along the Kodama vector field and along the direction of an orthogonal vector to the Kodama vector. The second Friedmann equation is obtained by projecting on the Kodama vector, while the first is obtained by projecting along the flux on the Cauchy hypersurfaces. This result does not assume a priory temperature and an entropy, so the Clausius relation is not used here. Nevertheless, it is used to obtain the corresponding Gauss-Bonnet entropy. In this way, the validity of the generalized second law of thermodynamics is proved for the Gauss-Bonnet gravity theory.

Discriminating interacting dark energy models using Statefinder diagnostic

In the present work, we perform a comparative study of different interacting dark energy (DE) models using the Statefinder diagnostics. In particular, 17 different forms of the energy transfer rate $Q$ between DE and dark matter (DM) were focused on, belonging to the following categories: i) linear models in energy densities of DE and DM, ii) non-linear models, iii) models with a change of direction of energy transfer between DE and DM, iv) models involving derivatives of the energy densities, v) parametrized interactions through a function of the coincidence parameter $\tilde{r}$, and finally we also consider vi) two kinds of models with a self-interaction between DM, without DE. These models have been already studied in the literature and constrained with observational data available at that time. In order to discriminate between them at background level, we use the Statefinder diagnostic, based on the computation and study of the so-called Statefinder parameters $r$, $s$ in addition to the deceleration parameter $q$. We plot the evolution trajectories for the several interacting models on the $r-q$, $r-s$ planes, and we find some distinctive features and departures from $Λ$CDM and other DE models, as Quintessence, Chaplygin Gas, running vacuum models (RVM) and Galileon.

Dynamics of dark energy in a scalar-vector-torsion theory

We study the cosmological dynamics of dark energy in a scalar-vector-torsion theory. The vector field is described by the cosmic triad and the scalar field is of the quintessence type with non-minimal coupling to gravity. The coupling to gravity is introduced through the interaction between the scalar field and torsion, where torsion is defined in the context of teleparallel gravity. We derive the full set of field equations for the Friedmann-Lemaître-Robertson-Walker space-time background and obtain the associated autonomous system. We obtain the critical points and their stability conditions, along with the cosmological properties of them. Thus, we show that the thermal history of the universe is successfully reproduced. Furthermore, new scaling solutions in which the scalar and vector field densities scale in the same way as the radiation and matter background fluids have been found. Finally, we also show that there exist new attractor fixed points whose nature is mainly vectorial, and which can explain the current accelerated expansion and therefore the dark energy-domination.

Quasinormal modes for a non-minimally coupled scalar field in a five-dimensional Einstein-power-Maxwell background

We study the propagation of massless scalar fields non-minimally coupled to gravity in the background of five-dimensional Einstein-power-Maxwell black holes, and using the WKB and the pseudospectral Chebyshev methods we obtain the quasinormal frequencies (QNFs), which allow us to show the existence of stable and unstable QNFs depending on the power $k$ of the nonlinear electrodynamics, the $ξ$ parameter, which controls the strength of the non-minimal coupling, and on the size of the black hole.

Quasinormal modes for massive charged scalar fields in Reissner-Nordström dS black holes: anomalous decay rate

The anomalous decay rate of the quasinormal modes occurs when the longest-lived modes are the ones with higher angular number. Such behaviour has been recently studied in different static spacetimes, for uncharged scalar and fermionic perturbations, being observed in both cases. In this work we consider the propagation of charged massive scalar fields in the background of Reissner-Nordström-de Sitter black holes and we mainly study the effect of the scalar field charge in the spectrum of quasinormal frequencies, as well as, its effect on the anomalous decay rate. Mainly, we show that the anomalous behaviour is present for massive charged scalar fields as well, and a critical value of scalar field mass exists, beyond which the behaviour is inverted. However, there is also a critical value of the parameter $qQ$ of the charge of the scalar field and of the charge of the black hole, which increases when the cosmological constant increases, and beyond the critical value the anomalous behaviour of the decay rate could be avoided for the fundamental mode.

Inflation and Primordial Fluctuations in $F(T)$ Gravity's Rainbow

We study slow-roll inflation and the generation of primordial fluctuations in $F(T)$ gravity's rainbow. We obtain the second order action for scalar and tensor perturbations and then calculate the primordial power spectrum for them. Thus, after calculating the inflationary observables up to first order in slow-roll approximation, namely the scalar spectral index $n_{s}$ and the tensor-to scalar ratio $r$, we confront the predictions of the model with the current PLANCK and BICEP/Keck data.

Stability of scalar perturbations in scalar-torsion $f(T,ϕ)$ gravity theories in the presence of a matter fluid

We study the viability conditions for the absence of ghost, gradient and tachyonic instabilities, in scalar-torsion $f(T,ϕ)$ gravity theories in the presence of a general barotropic perfect fluid. To describe the matter sector, we use the Sorkin-Schutz action and then calculate the second order action for scalar perturbations. For the study of ghost and gradient instabilities, we found that the gravity sector keeps decoupled from the matter sector and then applied the viability conditions for each one separately. Particularly, we verified that this theory is free from ghost and gradient instabilities, obtaining the standard results for matter, and for the gravity sector we checked that the corresponding speed of propagation satisfies $c_{s,g}^2=1$. On the other hand, in the case of tachyonic instability, we obtained the general expressions for the mass eigenvalues and then evaluated them in the scaling matter fixed points of a concrete model of dark energy. Thus, we found a space of parameters where it is possible to have a stable configuration respecting the constraints from the CMB measurements and the BBN constraints for early dark energy. Finally, we have numerically corroborated these results by solving the cosmological equations for a realistic cosmological evolution with phase space trajectories undergoing scaling matter regimes, and then showing that the system presents a stable configuration throughout cosmic evolution.

Reconstructing inflation in scalar-torsion $f(T,ϕ)$ gravity

It is investigated the reconstruction during the slow-roll inflation in the most general class of scalar-torsion theories whose Lagrangian density is an arbitrary function $f(T,ϕ)$ of the torsion scalar $T$ of teleparallel gravity and the inflaton $ϕ$. For the class of theories with Lagrangian density $f(T,ϕ)=-M_{pl}^{2} T/2 - G(T) F(ϕ) - V(ϕ)$, with $G(T)\sim T^{s+1}$ and the power $s$ as constant, we consider a reconstruction scheme for determining both the non-minimal coupling function $F(ϕ)$ and the scalar potential $V(ϕ)$ through the parametrization (or attractor) of the scalar spectral index $n_{s}(N)$ and the tensor-to-scalar ratio $r(N)$ as functions of the number of $e-$folds $N$. As specific examples, we analyze the attractors $n_{s}-1 \propto 1/N$ and $r\propto 1/N$, as well as the case $r\propto 1/N (N+γ)$ with $γ$ a dimensionless constant. In this sense and depending on the attractors considered, we obtain different expressions for the function $F(ϕ)$ and the potential $V(ϕ)$, as also the constraints on the parameters present in our model and its reconstruction.

Superradiant instability and charged scalar quasinormal modes for $2+1$-dimensional Coulomb-like AdS black holes from nonlinear electrodynamics

We study the propagation of charged scalar fields in the background of $2+1$-dimensional Coulomb-like AdS black holes, and we show that such propagation is unstable under Dirichlet boundary conditions. However, all the unstable modes are superradiant and all the stable modes are non-superradiant, according with the superradiant condition. Mainly, we show that when the scalar field is charged the quasinormal frecuencies (QNFs) are always complex, contrary to the uncharged case, where for small values of the black hole charge the complex QNFs are dominant, while that for bigger values of the black hole charge the purely imaginary QNFs are dominant.

Scalar quasinormal modes for 2+1-dimensional Coulomb like AdS black holes from non lineal electrodynamics

We study the propagation of scalar fields in the background of $2+1$-dimensional Coulomb like AdS black holes, and we show that such propagation is stable under Dirichlet boundary conditions. Then, we solve the Klein-Gordon equation by using the pseudospectral Chevyshev method, and we find the quasinormal frequencies. Mainly, we find that the quasinormal frequencies are purely imaginary for a null angular number and they are complex and purely imaginary for a non null value of the angular number, which depend on the black hole charge, angular number and overtone number. On the other hand, the effect of the inclusion of a Coulomb like field from non lineal electrodynamics to General Relativity for a vanishing angular number is the emergence of two branches of quasinormal frequencies in contrast with the static BTZ black hole.

Thermodynamics of 2+1 dimensional Coulomb-Like Black Holes from Non Linear Electrodynamics with a traceless energy momentum tensor

In this work we study thermodynamics of 2+1-dimensional static black holes with a nonlinear electric field. Besides employing the standard thermodynamic approach, we investigate the black hole thermodynamics by studying its thermodynamic geometry. We compute the Weinhold and Ruppeiner metrics and compare the thermodynamic geometry with the standard description on the black hole thermodynamics. We further consider the cosmological constant as an additional extensive thermodynamic variable. In the thermodynamic equilibrium three dimensional space, we compute the efficiency of the heat engine and show that it is possible to be built with this black hole.

Phase transitions in four-dimensional AdS black holes with a nonlinear electrodynamics source

In this work we consider black hole solutions to Einstein theory coupled to a nonlinear power-law electromagnetic field with a fixed exponent value. We study the extended phase space thermodynamics in canonical and grand canonical ensembles where the varying cosmological constant plays the role of an effective thermodynamic pressure. We examine thermodynamical phase transitions in such black hols and find that both first and second order phase transitions can occur in the canonical ensemble, while for the grand canonical ensemble the Hawking-Page and second order phase transitions are allowed.

Shadow cast of non-commutative black holes in Rastall gravity

We study the shadow and energy emission rate of a spherically symmetric non-commutative black hole in Rastall gravity. Depending on the model parameters, the non-commutative black hole can reduce to the Schwarzschild black hole. Since the non-vanishing non-commutative parameter affects the formation of event horizon, the visibility of the resulting shadow depends on the non-commutative parameter in Rastall gravity. The obtained sectional shadows respect the unstable circular orbit condition, which is crucial for physical validity of the black hole image model.

Weak gravitational lensing by Kerr-MOG Black Hole and Gauss-Bonnet theorem

The deflection angle of Kerr-MOG black holes is studied for different values of the parameter in modified gravity (MOG). To this end, we employ the Gauss-Bonnet theorem, which was first studied by Gibbons and Werner and then extended by Ono, Ishihara and Asada, who use a generalized optical metric where the deflection of light for an observer and source at finite distance. By using this method, we study the weak gravitational lensing by Kerr-MOG black hole. Our computations show that with an increase in the MOG parameter ($α$), the deflection angle becomes significantly larger than that of Kerr black hole. The results obtained show that MOG effect could be taken into account in the gravitational lensing experiments.

Slow-roll inflation in generalized scalar-torsion gravity

We study the dynamics of inflation in a generalized scalar-torsion gravity scenario by assuming a canonical scalar field non-minimally coupled to torsion with a Galileon-type self-interaction. After obtaining the field equations for a flat FRW background, we derive the second order action for both scalar and tensor perturbations to compute the power spectra of primordial fluctuations. As particular models, we studied at first, a power-law form of coupling function $F(x)=1+ξx^{2}/2$, with $x\equiv ϕ/M_{pl}$, and a monomial scalar field potential $V(x)=λx^{n}/n$ which is ruled out at $2σ$ level by current observational data for $n\geq 2$. Under slow-roll approximation we obtain analytical expressions for the background as well as perturbative dynamics, and we show that the predictions of the model are consistent with current Planck 2018 constraints on the spectral index $n_{s}$ and the tensor-to-scalar ratio $r$ through the $n_s-r$ plane. Accordingly, this model is in agreement with current observational bounds only within the $95\%$ C.L. region in the case of chaotic quadratic inflation ($n=2$), whereas that for the other monomial potentials such as $n=4/3$, $n=1$ and $n=2/3$, it is found that they are even more favoured, overlapping their results with the $68\%$ C.L. region from last Planck data. Secondly, we studied a model in which the presence of both non-minimal coupling to gravity and the Galileon non-linear self-interaction $γ(\partial ϕ)^2 \Boxϕ$ leads to a suppression of the tensor-to-scalar ratio compared to those predicted in the standard scenario, then predicting $0.024\lesssim r\lesssim 0.069$. This result allows us to reconcile chaotic quadratic inflation with current Planck data up to the $68\%$ C.L. region.

Motion and collision of particles near DST Black holes

We consider Deser-Sarioglu-Tekin (DST) black holes as background and we study such the motion of massive particles as the collision of two spinning particles in the vicinity of its horizon. New kinds of orbits are allowed for small deviations of General Relativity, but the behavior of the collision is similar to the one observed for General Relativity. Some observables like bending of light and the perihelion precession are analyzed.

Shadow cast and Deflection angle of Kerr-Newman-Kasuya spacetime

We study the shadow cast or silhouette generated by a Kerr-Newman-Kasuya (KNK) spacetime (rotating dyon black hole). It is shown that in addition to the angular momentum of the black hole, the dyon charge also affects the shadow image of the KNK black hole. Moreover, we analyze the weak gravitational lensing by the KNK black hole by using the Gauss-Bonnet theorem. Finally, we find that extra dyon charge decreases both the deflection angle and shadow of the KNK black hole.

Growth of matter overdensities in non-minimal torsion-matter coupling theories

We study the evolution of cosmological perturbations around a homogeneous and isotropic background in the framework of the non-minimal torsion-matter coupling extension of $f(T)$ gravity. We are concerned with the effects of the non-minimal coupling term on the growth of matter overdensities. Under the quasi-static approximation, we derive the equation which governs the evolution of matter density perturbations, and it is shown that the effective gravitational coupling 'constant' acquires an additional contribution due to the non-minimal matter-torsion coupling term. In this way, this result generalizes those previously obtained for the growth of matter overdensities in the case of minimal $f(T)$ gravity. In order to get a feeling of our results we apply them to the important case of a power-law coupling function, which we assume to be the responsible for the late-time accelerated expansion in the dark energy regime. Thereby, analytic solutions for the matter density perturbation equation in the regime of dark matter dominance and the dark energy epoch are obtained, along with a complete numerical integration of this equation. In particular, we show that this model predicts a growth index larger than those obtained for $Λ$CDM model, indicating therefore a smaller growth rate. Concomitantly, we show that the model at hand is potentially capable in alleviating the existing $σ_{8}$-tension, being that it can provide us a $fσ_{8}$ prediction which is $\sim 4-5$ per cent below the respective prediction of concordance model.
