Multicomponent KP type hierarchies and their reductions, associated to conjugacy classes of Weyl groups of classical Lie algebras

This, to a large extent, expository paper, describes the theory of multicomponent hierarchies of evolution equations of XKP type, where X=A, B, C or D, and AKP=KP, and their reductions, associated to the conjugacy classes of the Weyl groups of classical Lie algebras of type X. As usual, the main tool is the multicomponent boson-fermion correspondence, which leads to the corresponding tau-functions, wave functions, dressing operators and Lax operators.

The generalized Giambelli formula and polynomial KP and CKP tau-functions

The first part of the paper is devoted to two descriptions of all polynomial tau-functions of the KP hierarchy: by a generalized Jacobi-Trudy formula, and a generalized Giambelli formula. We use the latter formula in the second part to obtain all polynomial tau-functions of the CKP hierarchy and its n-reductions. In particular, for n=3 we find all polynomial tau-functions of the Kaup-Kupershmidt hierarchy.

BKP tau-functions as square roots of KP tau-functions

It is well-known that a BKP tau-function is the square root of a certain KP tau-function, provided one puts the even KP times equal to zero. In this paper we compute for all polynomial BKP tau-function its corresponding KP "square". We also give, in the polynomial case, a representation theoretical proof of a recent result by Alexandov, viz. that a KdV tau-function becomes a BKP tau-function when one divides all KdV times by 2.

Polynomial Tau-functions of the KP, BKP, and the s-Component KP Hierarchies

We show that any polynomial tau-function of the s-component KP and the BKP hierarchies can be interpreted as a zero mode of an appropriate combinatorial generating function. As an application, we obtain explicit formulas for all polynomial tau-functions of these hierarchies in terms of Schur polynomials and Q-Schur polynomials respectively. We also obtain formulas for polynomial tau-functions of the reductions of the s-component KP hierarchy associated to partitions in s parts.

p-reduced multicomponent KP hierarchy and classical W-algebras W(gl_N,p)

For each partition p of an integer N \geq 2, consisting of r parts, an integrable hierarchy of Lax type Hamiltonian PDE has been constructed recently by some of us. In the present paper we show that any tau-function of the p-reduced r-component KP hierarchy produces a solution of this integrable hierarchy. Along the way we provide an algorithm for the explicit construction of the generators of the corresponding classical W-algebra W(gl_N,p), and write down explicit formulas for evolution of these generators along the Hamiltonian flows.

Polynomial tau-functions for the multi-component KP hierarchy

In a previous paper we constructed all polynomial tau-functions of the 1-component KP hierarchy, namely, we showed that any such tau-function is obtained from a Schur polynomial $s_λ(t)$ by certain shifts of arguments. In the present paper we give a simpler proof of this result, using the (1-component) boson-fermion correspondence. Moreover, we show that this approach can be applied to the s-component KP hierarchy, using the s-component boson-fermion correspondence, finding thereby all its polynomial tau-functions. We also find all polynomial tau-functions for the reduction of the s-component KP hierarchy, associated to any partition consisting of s positive parts.

Equivalence of formulations of the MKP hierarchy and its polynomial tau-functions

We give 4 formulations of the Modified KP hierarchy and show that they are equivalent. We also discuss the reductions of the MKP hierarchy to the modified $n$-KdV hierarchies. As a byproduct, we find an astonishingly simple explicit description of all polynomial tau-functions of the KP, the MKP and the $n$-KdV hierarchies, and (implicitly) also for the modified $n$-KdV hierarchy.

On rational R-matrices with adjoint SU(n) symmetry

Using the representation theory of Yangians we construct the rational R-matrix which takes values in the adjoint representation of SU(n). From this we derive an integrable SU(n) spin chain with lattice spins transforming under the adjoint representation. However, the resulting Hamiltonian is found to be non-Hermitian.

Irreducible Highest Weight Representations Of The Simple n-Lie Algebra

A. Dzhumadil'daev classified all irreducible finite dimensional representations of the simple n-Lie algebra. Using a slightly different approach, we obtain in this paper a complete classification of all irreducible, highest weight modules, including the infinite-dimensional ones. As a corollary we find all primitive ideals of the universal enveloping algebra of this simple n-Lie algebra.

The (n,1)-Reduced DKP Hierarchy, the String Equation and W Constraints

The total descendent potential of a simple singularity satisfies the Kac-Wakimoto principal hierarchy. Bakalov and Milanov showed recently that it is also a highest weight vector for the corresponding W-algebra. This was used by Liu, Yang and Zhang to prove its uniqueness. We construct this principal hierarchy of type D in a different way, viz. as a reduction of some DKP hierarchy. This gives a Lax type and a Grassmannian formulation of this hierarchy. We show in particular that the string equation induces a large part of the W constraints of Bakalov and Milanov. These constraints are not only given on the tau function, but also in terms of the Lax and Orlov-Schulman operators.

Bäcklund transformations for certain rational solutions of Painlevé VI

We introduce certain Bäcklund transformations for rational solutions of the Painlevé VI equation. These transformations act ona family of Painlevé VI tau functions. They are obtained from reducing the Hirota bilinear equations that describe the relation between certain points in the 3 component polynomial KP Grassmannian. In this way we obtain transformations that act on the root lattice of sl(6). We also show that this sl(6) root lattice can be related to the $F_4^{(1)}$ root lattice. We thus obtain Bäcklund transformations that relate Painlevé VI tau functions, parametrized by the elements of this $F_4^{(1)}$ root lattice.

Towards Lax formulation of integrable hierarchies of topological type

To each partition function of cohomological field theory one can associate an Hamiltonian integrable hierarchy of topological type. The Givental group acts on such partition functions and consequently on the associated integrable hierarchies. We consider the Hirota and Lax formulations of the deformation of the hierarchy of N copies of KdV obtained by an infinitesimal action of the Givental group. By first deforming the Hirota quadratic equations and then applying a fundamental lemma to express it in terms of pseudo-differential operators, we show that such deformed hierarchy admits an explicit Lax formulation. We then compare the deformed Hamiltonians obtained from the Lax equations with the analogous formulas obtained in [1, 2], to find that they agree. We finally comment on the possibility of extending the Hirota and Lax formulation on the whole orbit of the Givental group action.

Givental symmetries of Frobenius manifolds and multi-component KP tau-functions

We establish a link between two different constructions of the action of the twisted loop group on the space of Frobenius structures. The first construction (due to Givental) describes the action of the twisted loop group on the partition functions of formal Gromov-Witten theories. The explicit formulas for the corresponding tangent action were computed by Y.-P. Lee. The second construction (due to van de Leur) describes the action of the same group on the space of Frobenius structures via the multi-component KP hierarchies. Our main theorem states that the genus zero restriction of the Y.-P. Lee formulas coincides with the tangent van de Leur action.

Clifford Algebra Derivations of Tau-Functions for Two-Dimensional Integrable Models with Positive and Negative Flows

We use a Grassmannian framework to define multi-component tau functions as expectation values of certain multi-component Fermi operators satisfying simple bilinear commutation relations on Clifford algebra. The tau functions contain both positive and negative flows and are shown to satisfy the $2n$-component KP hierarchy. The hierarchy equations can be formulated in terms of pseudo-differential equations for $n \times n$ matrix wave functions derived in terms of tau functions. These equations are cast in form of Sato-Wilson relations. A reduction process leads to the AKNS, two-component Camassa-Holm and Cecotti-Vafa models and the formalism provides simple formulas for their solutions

The symplectic Kadomtsev-Petviashvili hierarchy and rational solutions of Painlevé VI

Equivalence is established between a special class of Painleve VI equations parametrized by a conformal dimension $μ$, time dependent Euler top equations, isomonodromic deformations and three-dimensional Frobenius manifolds. The isomodromic tau function and solutions of the Euler top equations are explicitly constructed in terms of Wronskian solutions of the 2-vector 1-constrained symplectic Kadomtsev-Petviashvili (CKP) hierarchy by means of Grassmannian formulation. These Wronskian solutions give rational solutions of the Painleve VI equation for $μ=1,2,{...} $.
